This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 6th day of January, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3637], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Miss Florence Edmonds.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life, also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [3637].

3. In giving an interpretation of the records here, there is much from which to choose. The abilities of the entity and the application of self to these have been somewhat deterred in the present experience.

4. But in choosing these interpretations we would minimize the faults, we would magnify the virtues.

5. In analyzing the experiences of the entity through the realm of the universe, or in the various consciousnesses and through the material appearances, we find that these have at times been at variance one to another - just as in the present. And this has brought periods of turmoil, anxiety, indecisions, and sometimes sorrow in the experience.

6. If a pattern of the life were indicated from a composite of these, this would be the seal of the entity:

7. It would be drawn in a complete circle, but rather upon a foursquare plaque - say fourteen to eighteen inches square; and an eight-sided circle - eight phases. Each would be put in a different color; combining the colors not in their deeper hue but the seven principal colors, and in the center left black, or white. The others would come in their regular prism order. In the center of this black, put the Cross as the seal or the center to which or toward which there should ever be the activities of the entity.

8. Thus may we minimize the faults or keep harmony within the experience of the entity.

9. These would indicate that the entity through its mental self has passed through all the urges from the vibrations of that ordinarily called color. For color itself is vibration, just as much vibration as - or even more than - music. These might be indicated, then, as the various colors and the notes of music on each. In placing them, begin not upon or under the figure of the Cross but going clock-wise, beginning - of course - with do. [pronounced dough - 1st tone of diatonic scale] These would indicate as to how, where, when these have been a portion of the entity’s experience.

10. This indicates the sensitivity of the entity. Oft the entity sees humor before anyone else in the crowd would appreciate it, and others wonder. Sometimes it makes the entity feel as if it were not just in accord, but it is the lack of vitality or sensitiveness in others - not in this entity being any beyond what it should. Keep hold to that, don’t suppress it, for it will be thy saving grace oft! For you can easily love too well, also too deep. Just as music can be made to be a part of the soul, or it may also lead to tears and sorrow.

11. These are the seal of this entity.

12. As to urges latent and manifested from the sojourns in the varied astrological realms, we find that the entity is one of the very few - and the only one we have found here - never having returned to the same experience twice; only in the earth has there been the manifestation more than once.

13. But beginning with Mercury, the entity has run the gamut even unto Neptune and Arcturus, and then returned to earth.

14. These indicate, then, the sensitiveness of the entity, its abilities in whatever it would set its mind to do. This is one entity who might have a love affair and at the same time have a career, and they never touch each other! Others would never know that it was ever in business nor had an affair either! This is how well the entity sets those abilities in itself apart.

15. As indicated in the seal, the entity may play upon the emotions of others or it may use them for steppingstones or stumblingblocks. It may use opportunities to raise others to the point of anxiety or to the point where they would spend their souls for the entity; using them either as buildings or as serpents or scorpions in its emotions. It may love very deeply, either for the universal consciousness or for gratifying only of self or the physical emotions.

16. Again the entity may express each of the emotions in their counterpart - as patience, longsuffering, brotherly love, kindness, gentleness. It can also look on and hate like the dickens! It can look on and smile and love to the extent of being willing to give all for the cause or purpose.

17. These are abilities latent and manifested in this entity. Use them, not abuse them. For the powers as of friends, the powers as of love, the powers as of patience, the powers as of the spirits that be, are at thy beck and call. Use them, don’t abuse them. Use them to the glory of thy ideal, and let that ideal be set in that way of the Cross.

18. As has been indicated well by others, indicate in thine own life in this experience - for you’ve shown all phases of it in others: let others do as they may, but as for me, I will serve the living God. And I am determined to know nothing among men save Jesus as the Christ and him crucified; that I might know the Father.

19. In mercy, in justice, in love then, deal thy abilities to thy associates and thy fellow man.

20. As to the appearances in the earth, these have been quite varied. Not all may be given in the present, for with each cycle there comes another experience as a part of the entity’s problems or help. Just as some set that each day or each hour, as the earth passes from phase to phase of the constellations or the signs of the zodiac, there comes greater impression. Rather is it as the cycles. For it is admitted that the body changes completely each seven years. Do you change your mind that often? Not this body! What it knows it knows it knows! and knows it!

21. In the experience then, apply those things. Be sure ye are right, and no one will make you deviate from thy purposes and activities.

22. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity, where there was the greater activity - coming from the Chicago or Fort Dearborn area.

23. With the destruction and with the great numbers who fled to the areas of Virginia, the entity then as a child fled with many into the land now between Richmond and Fredricksburg. Thus that area has at times rather an attraction and at others it is rather “Phooey!” to the entity. These are as the sensitiveness to the entity. This would depend, then, upon the season. If in the summer when everything is in bloom, it would be lovely. In winter, uh-uh! not so good! These are the emotions that have been a portion of the entity’s experience there. Yet these areas would be those where the entity may again use those influences and initiatives that have been latent in regard to the creating of home environs, and it would be well for the entity to get married and live there! It would bring to the entity the experiences that would be in keeping with the greatest portion of its activity.

24. The name then was Sarah Hoytt. The entity then applied its abilities to attract, to use, but not to self-indulgence - yet it knew what such meant. Just as in the present, the highly emotional natures have been suppressed oft by what others call circumstance - but it was actually because of the entity’s choice. These have builded conditions that must in a manner be loosened, but in those directions to become creative in their application or manifestation in the earth.

25. Before that the entity was in the French land during the Crusades. And what a life the entity led in those activities; suppressed through the very emotions from the days of its associations with the opposite sex. For the entity was among those who were chained to an idea of an individual. Yes, you have known him - and you’re well rid of him! in the experience in the present that brought the disturbing forces for the entity.

26. The entity spiritually gained, mentally and materially was subdued or suppressed rather - and the spiritual yet seeks expression. Express it in the use of thy abilities to bring hope to others. Don’t be afraid to say what you think! You have suppressed yourself in this manner too far, as was experienced by the entity through that period - as Jenne Neslen.

27. Before that the entity was in the Grecian land, among the maidens chosen as emissaries to the “city in the hills and plains.”

28. The entity in those experiences gained much, for with the activities brought through the applying of the tenets and truths of the teacher in that experience, there was brought hope and help to those who had become discouraged in body and mind, who knew so little - as the world does today - of the spirit or truth of things or people. The entity lended itself to the aiding in those ways of bringing help and comfort to those who were crippled in body, the aged, the infirm.

29. So may the entity encourage easily in the present those who are shut-ins, those who are hindered from material activities. Most by the conversation, if the entity will let itself go. For it can tell a good story, whether it might be questioned by some or whether it had a good moral with it. But tell them both! You can do it well. They are needed in the lives and the minds of people. Not that which would become detrimental, of course, but questioned - yes; for these are needed to stir the emotions of individuals, especially those who hear nothing but four walls and just a small view of God’s sky. All of these were put into the world for a purpose, and no one knows better how to use them than thyself, if ye apply them properly.

30. Then the entity was known as Juan.

31. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land when those were chosen by the Priest for the motherhood of those who were to become leaders.

32. The entity was one of the first to be tempered or wrought, as it were, in the Temple of Sacrifice and then in the Temple Beautiful. There the entity was among those who presided at the stations or the seven centers, as individuals were attuned in mind and purpose for the various activities. The entity represented that station which today would be represented in the body as the solar plexus, directing that as it were of life itself, the creative organs of the body and the breast and the mouth - the creative, the supply, the giving forth.

33. The name then was Est-Ar-Ar-On.

34. As to the abilities of the entity in the present - who would tell a rose to be beautiful? Who would tell a sunset to be beautiful? Who would tell this entity, other than to be true to that thou knowest in thine heart? For the Lord hath given thee much - in body, in mind, in purpose. Use them all to the glory of God.

36. (Q) What colors and keynote, stones and odors might be most helpful to the entity? (A) Choose - you have them all - ye are all of them.

37. (Q) Would it be advisable for the entity to remarry? (A) If you live on a farm. Can you get yourself to that?

38. (Q) What type of person? (A) Better be a farmer, or he wouldn’t be very much good for the entity!

39. (Q) How prepare self for this experience best? (A) Learn to love it in the winter time as you do in June!

40. (Q) What were my past associations with the following people: my father, Capt. [3637]‘s father? (A) In Greece ye knew him then as a close associate. Thus the deep respect, yet that question arising in the mind. You see, the entity knows most everyone most too well for it to choose its friendships other than that which makes it question them!

41. (Q) My mother, [3304]? (A) Before this and in the French experience, also in the “city in the hills and the plains,” and in Egypt.

42. (Q) My son, [3637]‘s son? and what can I do about his temper? (A) The Egyptian experience. And here the entity may do much to give that entity the right purpose in self. Teach him, as ye have thine own self, to do right and let others do as they will or may! Not that the entity is too hardheaded, but it knows what it knows!

43. (Q) What can I do about his temper? (A) Control yours - you’ll control his!

44. (Q) How can I best handle the problem of undesirable tenants in my home? (A) Just as you would handle the problem of getting rid of rats! By setting the mind as to a purpose ye can drive them away or ye can make them such as to be desirable!

45. (Q) Any advice or warnings about the physical body? (A) By the colors indicated ye can control almost thine own physical being, by thine own mind!

46. (Q) What attitude could I take to be most helpful to […] who is now living with me? (A) Keep to that of the good humor. Remember to tell stories, not merely to draw her out but to learn her nature better. It needs studying! That’s why it’s of interest to you!

2. How many times have you read your Life Reading? (If many times, give approximate number.) Quite a few, couldn’t say how many.

3. Did you read it to or with someone else and if so, what was the relation of that person to you? Yes, my mother, also Florence Edmonds.

4. Have you given a copy of your reading to anyone and, if so, what was the relationship to you of that person? No.

5. How recently have you read your Life Reading? About a month ago.

7. Do you believe in a reincarnation of the soul and, if so, why? (Please do not hesitate to be in any respect afraid to express yourself. We welcome and cherish even the most meager expression because we know and value that which stimulates it.) Yes, but don’t understand it too well.

Please bear in mind that the above questions are primarily for the purpose of stimulating thought.

In analyzing the “seal” outlined in your reading, have you found it helpful in better understanding the “pattern of your life?” Yes.

There is the observation in your reading that you are one of the few people who could have a career and social - or marital life - also - and never have difficulty in one interfering with the other. Would you consider this accurate? Yes.

It is also pointed out hat the fall and winter are periods during which emotionally - your reactions to the season are “not so good.” Is this correct? Yes. Have you to any extent, through following the guidance given in your reading, been able to overcome this loneliness - during the winter season? I am substituting the word “loneliness” - perhaps you would suggest another description that would be more accurate.

In the Crusade period - it is indicated that you were among those “who were chained to an idea of an individual.” Judging from your experience with that individual this time, what type of activity do you think is being referred to? I don’t know.

Have you, to any extent, been able to devote your time to shut-ins - if so, have you found the emotional and spiritual release that is indicated for you, through this activity? Yes.

Were you able to deal with the problem of undesirable tenants

Dear Gladys,

Thank you for your nice letter and thinking of me. I have thought of you and your work quite often, but am afraid I haven’t done very much about it. However I will look you up in the future, the first time I get down Va. Beach. I don’t get down there very often. About twice all summer. I have been busy house cleaning, had company also. I called Florence but got no answer. She might be out of town, or probably out each time I called her. Hope you keep well and happy.

R2. 11/7/51 Report by Florence Edmonds:

She did marry again, but I don’t think a farmer. It’s interesting to note that her son, now in his teens, is extremely interested in all nature, especially wild life, animals, insects, etc. Perhaps if she had married a farmer this part of her life would be easier, since the son is constantly bringing snakes and other undesirables into the house. If she had a home for him on a farm he would have more space to indulge his interests in such things.

R3. 10/7/69 GD’s note: She visited A.R.E. today and asked my help in verifying her birth date before a notary.

R4. 8/24/74 She phoned asking that we place her name and her husband’s on the A.R.E. Prayer Group list, for help in their financial problems.

R5. 6/27/86 JT’s note: Mrs. [3637] phoned today to discover Gladys Davis Turner had passed away February 12, 1986. She asked for the Circulating Files on Heart saying she is no longer a member due to finances and thought Gladys would help her anyway. (A.R.E. Membership Dept. arranged a scholarship membership at my request.) She has a granddaughter who works in the Library at the Virginia Pilot-Ledger Star.

R6. 11/2/89 JT’s note: Mrs. [3637]s granddaughter called to inform me that her grandmother, Mrs. [3637] passed away on August 3, 1989 at her home. She was 82 years old.
