This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of February, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3643], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 11:10 to 11:20 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, California.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes. As we find, those arthritic reactions are very serious with this body. These will require one or two helpers, if we would really bring help for this body.

3. First we would begin taking Atomidine internally, two drops before the morning meal each day for seventeen days.

4. Then have an Epsom Salts Bath, using twenty pounds of Epsom Salts in forty gallons of water, as warm as the body can well stand. This would necessitate two people being very careful as they put the body into this solution. There should be continued massaging of the body while it is in this bath, especially the limbs and these portions of the body, the extremities and the locomotory centers. In the beginning let the body remain in this bath at least twenty minutes, massaging all the while.

5. Rest five days, then begin with the Atomidine - and take in the same manner for seventeen days more.

6. Then have another Epsom Salts Bath.

7. Then rest for at least six weeks.

8. Then begin all over again.

9. Following each Epsom Salts Bath, when sponged off or cleaned thoroughly from the Bath, give the body a massage using this combination of oils:

Cedar Oil, as the base…4 ounces, Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Olive Oil…2 ounces, Oil of Pine Needles…1 ounce, Lanolin (liquefied)…1/4 ounce, Oil of Sassafras…1/4 ounce.

10. Shake these together, for these will tend to separate, and when the massage is given let it first begin with the limbs; toes, feet, fingers, arms, hands and then between the shoulders up to head, and then to the end of the spine - especially around the sacrals and the end of the spine.

11. There should be in the second or third series improvements, and then gradually the eradicating of the disturbances.

12. Later we should use the Wet Cell Appliance for body-building, but we must break up, we must eliminate the conditions that have been crystallized in portions of the body.

13. When there has been at least four series of these treatments - that is, the four rounds of the Atomidine followed by the Epsom Salts Baths and massages, we would then give further instructions.

14. We are through with this reading.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I have just finished Mr. Sugrue’s book, “There is a River”, and have been greatly impressed and not a little amazed by the story of your gift and work.

If it is possible, I would like very much for you to give me a physical reading. For about a year, I have been under a doctor’s care for a disease diagnosed as progressive muscle atrophy, and it has resulted in almost complete disability in spite of the treatments I have been receiving. I was rapidly losing all hope of recovery when I ran across this book, and now hope has returned to me that you will be able to help me get back on my feet.

As I understand it, the reading can be conducted at this distance, but that it is necessary that you know my whereabouts at the time. Since I am necessarily confined to my home except for occasional short automobile rides, I will undoubtedly be at the address given below. However, if it will be possible to notify me of the time, I will make it a point to be there. I have no idea of the form and amount of payment, and will appreciate your letting me know, since I want to make proper payment either to you or to the Association.

I sincerely hope that the reading will be possible, and I shall be very grateful to you.

Gentlemen:

I am enclosing my application for associate membership in the Association and a physical reading, together with my check for $20.00.

Due to my disability, it has been necessary for me to sign by mark. So far as the reading is concerned, I cannot say that my case is an emergency on the ground that death is imminent, since I do not know that such is the case. However, the progressive nature of the disease probably increases the amount of irreparable damage with the passage of time, so I will appreciate anything that may be done to advance the date of the reading. I am not asking for special consideration, but only that you give my case some priority if such is consistent with your established policy.
