This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 7th day of January, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3653], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Born June 18, 1915, in Penrod, Kentucky. Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:35 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, New York.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: What an unusual record - and one of those who might be termed as physically the mothers of the world! For the entity was one of those in the ark.

3. In giving the interpretations of the records here, we find that there is much from which to choose. But these we choose with the desire and purpose to be the means of help to the entity in better fulfilling those purposes for which it has entered the earth’s plane in varied periods of its experience.

4. For the entity has appeared when there were new revelations to be given. And again it appears when there are new revelations to be made.

5. May the entity so conduct its mind, its body and its purposes, then, as to be a channel through which such messages may come that are needed for the awakenings in the minds of men as to the necessity for returning to the search for their relationship with the Creative Forces or God.

6. For as has been given from the beginning, the deluge was not a myth (as many would have you believe) but a period when man had so belittled himself with the cares of the world, with the deceitfulness of his own knowledge and power, as to require that there be a return to his dependence wholly - physically and mentally - upon the Creative Forces.

7. Will this entity see such again occur in the earth? Will it be among those who may be given those directions as to how, where, the elect may be preserved for the replenishing again of the earth?

8. Remember, not by water - for it is the mother of life in the earth - but rather by the elements, fire.

9. Then, in giving the interpretation of the records here, these we choose; minimizing the faults and magnifying the virtues of this entity. May the entity also ever use such policies in its dealings with others. For with what judgment ye mete to others it is measured to thee again. In the manner, then, ye treat thy fellow man, ye are treating thy neighbor.

10. In giving the urges latent and manifested, here is an entity wherein we find the urges from the moon, the earth and the solar signs. Thus the entity is controlled by the emotions of self as well as the activities in others.

11. As to whether or not the entity will be among those in the earth when the changes again come, will depend upon the entity’s preparation of self. Remember as to how it was stated in regard to those chosen for such channels, in what to many was the beginning of man’s advent into the earth: “They were perfect in their day and generation.” As individual entities they had chosen virtue in every form in relationship to things, conditions and personalities in the earth.

12. In the entity’s temperament from the astrological aspects, we find Mars, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter indicating the manner in which the entity’s activities are to be in the present.

13. Then, abilities exist. And it is up to the entity to begin with the first things first - spirituality, mental preparation, physical application. For as indicated, much must come from the experience if there would be the living with self, as it were, in this sojourn; else we will find the entity becoming so disturbed as to reach that condition or phase of consciousness best expressed in “Well, I don’t care.”

14. As to the appearances in the earth, not all will be given; yet these indicate a portion of the entity’s abilities. We would here for this entity reverse, as it were, the order and begin with the appearances in the first and show the variations according to the manner in which the individual has applied opportunities in conformance to its ideals in relationship to spiritual things. And this means spirituality, not spiritualism!

15. In the first we find that the entity appeared in the land called Mu. There the entity was among those who gave expression to the activities pertaining to the consideration of others as equals, as to individual rights also. Thus there was an unfoldment in mental and spiritual things.

16. Then the entity gained, in the name Oru.

17. Next we find that the entity entered in those periods when the littleness of man had come up as a stench before the throne of mercy and grace, or the Creative Forces.

18. The entity was among the peoples not of the lineage of Noah, but of those later known as the Hittites. Then the entity gave expressions to that same experience that was materially manifested in Mu, and the entity - as the wife of a son of Noah - became among the eight souls in the ark, in the preparation and in the endurance thereof, and in those experiences gained in the activities through the earth’s influence.

19. The name then was Maran. From that sojourn there is much experienced in the present in the entity’s liking of the history of the early ages of man, of those experiences that are the promptings for the souls and minds of individuals, rather than the material things.

20. At times the entity is berated by others for being rather in that mind of “Don’t care” than in that of a practical, everyday life.

21. Hence the entity is a “sensitive.” Read the Scripture pertaining to the days of Noah, the law proclaimed by Enoch (found mostly in Jude and in the early chapters of Genesis). Here is one entity who may write, not automatic but rather inspirational writing, shutting itself away and attuning itself by very distant music, and especially bells. For, under such an inspiration - not as a means of doing other than attuning the inner self - the entity may write inspirationally of things pertaining to mental and spiritual aspects of individuals grasping for attunement to the divine.

22. After that the entity appeared in the Holy Land during those periods of the Judges in Israel, and in that period of what is oft spoken of as Jepthah’s rash vow.

23. The entity was a close friend of Jepthah’s daughter offered as a human sacrifice to that overzealousness of an individual entity, who used his powers for material gains and strength and yet accorded those judgments of truth; causing this entity, Judyth, to become disturbed, distraught, and to lose much of that which had been the impelling force.

24. Hence the making of rash vows brings individual activities that yet disturb the entity, as to why individuals vow this or that and then, because they change, the entity can never exactly connect them with truth or sincerity. These bring disturbances for the entity. Yet the entity itself gained.

25. Following that the entity was in the Holy Land when there were those changes wrought by the entity called the prophet Mohammed.

26. The entity then was among those individuals who were caught, as it were, in circumstance, and the entity in its activity, in that portion of the land, again brought a balance in the manners of presentation.

27. The name then was Shusan.

28. Following that the entity was in the land of the present nativity, during those periods when there was the warring of one against the other, when brother was pitted against brother.

29. The entity was among those of its present land of nativity who were associated with those who were considered as rebellious against the government.

30. For the entity was among those peoples of the land of its present nativity who were associated with those who were rebels, and the entity itself was rather a rebel in its purpose as to the needs for servants for labors.

31. The name then was Jane Polk.

32. As to the abilities of the entity in the present:

33. The periods of change that have been wrought in the earth are, as it were, a part of the entity’s experience. And in applying self to truth, to light, to justice as may be found in those tenets and truths of the Master, the entity may seek to glorify that purpose, that ideal.

34. As a writer the entity may succeed. As a teacher it may become well known. As a student the entity may go far, in still supplying to those who seek, a way, a means of expression.

35. Ready for questions.

36. (Q) Can my song become a success if published? (A) It will have to be altered as to there becoming a purpose for the song, and not an emotion of a group or individual.

37. (Q) Who would be the best one to publish it? (A) This depends upon the change. But this may go through regular channels. This would necessitate ideals being set for it, and first that it be set to a type of music that would be in keeping with the purpose set for the song.

It would be well, as we find, to have this considered by one who sets songs to music, or who prepares them as in the Hour of Charm.

38. (Q) Should I write other songs? (A) These are well, but you may write things greater than songs. Psalms and songs, yes - sayings and songs would be well.

39. (Q) How can I best help my family financially? (A) This will depend upon what the needs are. There is much more important help to the family than financial. If this is put first and foremost, ye may lose the way. If the ideal is set first, the finances will follow.

40. (Q) Any further advice to help my present needs? (A) Begin at the beginning. Learn the way of love. “For the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.”

41. We are through for the present.

R1. 2/6/44 She wrote: “There’s so much I want to say to you that I guess I really don’t know how to say any of it. I rec’d the reading you gave for me, only day before yesterday, and I can’t explain to you the feeling it gave me to read it. To receive the reading was a complete surprise after I had written you that I couldn’t pay for another one [after my father’s]. But you will be paid for it sometime, for you say I can write and if you say I can I will; then if I ever receive any remuneration for it you shall be paid from the first of it. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for your help. I feel now that I’m not as useless as I have always felt, that there’s something good which I can do. Every time I read your information, and I’ve read it many times, I find something new to think about which gives me courage. Thank you and God bless you.”

R2. 1/3/68 She requested and was sent a copy of her own and her father’s reading.

R3. 7/3/68 She wrote: “Much has happened since I asked for a copy of my reading. We have moved back to O., our children have been in difficult situations and my husband has died. I would very much like, someday, to come to Va. Beach and read the files if possible. In the meantime I would like to become a member of the Ass’n.

“In the readings the influence of the planets is stressed so much. I would be appreciative if you could send me the name of a reputable astrologer whom I could ask for a reading. I am contemplating starting a business of my own and if this is a means of getting advice I certainly need it.

“Am enclosing $10. If the fee is more please let me know.”

R4. 1/14/69 She wrote: “Over twenty years ago Edgar Cayce gave me a reading in which he said I could become a teacher or writer.

“I have been a teacher for the past eight years and now would like to try writing but have no contacts and although I have an idea for a children’s story I am at a loss as to how to make contacts. Can you offer any suggestions?”

R5. 1/28/69 HLC referred her to one of the editors of A.R.E., Vada Carlson, “who has written a number of children’s books.”

R6. 3/22/72 She requested another copy of her reading, sending $2.

R7. 4/4/72 GD referred her to Dr. Charles Thomas Cayce who heads A.R.E. Youth Activities, thinking he might have helpful suggestions for her writing, or teaching.

R8. 4/18/74 Mrs. [3653]‘s ltr. to GDT:

Dear Miss Turner:

I have a concern about the various publications using case histories coming out of the A.R.E. which have been compiled and published with the help and full consent of whom?

I am speaking specifically about the paperbacks which are literally lifting excerpts of case histories, giving numbers, categorizing same under whatever listing the author may presume appropriate and offering the entire package as scientific and informative to the masses.

By what authority is the A.R.E. making available the case histories to authors and who decides what author and whether he is really disseminating information about Edgar Cayce and his great store of psychic information, or is the real purpose publicity regardless of content or presentation?

I’m not at all sure that I want my reading [3653-1]* published in part or in its entirety, and I would very much like to know what your rules and guidelines are in making available the files to authors.

Dear Mrs. [3653]:

Mrs. Turner gave me your letter of April 18. Thank you for your inquiry. I am sorry that I have been unable to answer you prior to this time.

As you probably know, all of the names and addresses have been taken off of the readings given by Edgar Cayce. Your readings is just a case number. There is no possibility of your reading being identified as your case unless you tell someone about it.

When you applied for the reading through the Association for Research and Enlightenment, you took part in a research project. It was explained to you when you wrote about your reading. We have copies of all of the correspondence.

There is a publication committee who undertakes to carefully screen the use of any data from the readings. I have taken part in this myself over a period of many years. Let me assure you that many people have been helped through getting a new concept of a philosophy of life or way of living through these readings and extracts from them. Though as I mentioned above, there is no possible way for anyone to identify the information unless you make the number known yourself.

Do pay us a visit at Virginia Beach at the first opportunity and see just what is being done with these records. We appreciate your interest.

B1. 10/4/43 As a result of reading the Coronet article she sought advice on how to make money to pay debts accrued before her marriage for college education, also to support her parents. She wishes to make money and at same time care for her two small children, without worrying her husband.

B2. 11/24/43 She thanked EC for making an appointment for her ill father, Mr. [3417].

B3. 12/9/43 She wrote: “It is impossible for me to send you the fee now, or even later, for my Life Reading, and I feel that I cannot accept it. Thank you again.”
