This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of February, 1944, in accordance with request made by [3662]”s husband - Captain […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by article in “Coronet”.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions as I ask them:

2. EC: [After repeating suggestion in an undertone]: Yes, we have the body here, [3662].

3. As we find, there are disturbances pathological and psychological that are preventing the better physical functionings in this body.

4. These can be materially aided, yet we find it should be under entirely different conditions from those existing in the present. There should be more of the personal interest than that from the institutional or collective applications. For here sedatives, that are the main portion of the treatments, will only make for less possibility of this disturbance being fully eliminated and the preventing of its re-occurrence. For unless proper corrections are made, there must eventually be caused a full possession or such a deterioration of the gray tissue or cell matter in the spinal cord as to set up deterioration in brain reflexes and reactions.

5. For as we find, there are those pressures existing in the coccyx, and in the lower lumbar and sacral areas, that have prevented and that do prevent the normal closing of the lyden [Leydig?] gland in its activity through the body. Thus we have those periods when the body is averse to body-passion and again is as if being possessed by same, causing mental aberrations and imaginations, with the sensory system in its reflexes bringing an illness of whatever nature is indicated in any conversation about the body. These cause fears, dreads and such conditions throughout the body.

6. There should not necessarily be needed a trained nurse, but a Christian person or a sympathetic Christian nurse with practical religious tendencies; not a fanatic, but practical, applying that she professes, rather than professing that others should apply in their experience.

7. Then, such an environment is needed in a more open surrounding, or at home, or at some quiet place where there can be a great deal of companionship, of study, of reasoning, yes of spiritual reasoning together.

8. Also there should be twice each day the electrically driven vibrator over the area of the coccyx, the sacral and the lumbar, for 10 to 15 to 20 minutes.

9. Immediately following the use of the vibrator, give the body a gentle massage over the same areas with an equal combination of camphorated oil and peanut oil.

10. This may at some period, during the first, second or third, or even to the 12 or 15 treatments, apparently cause some excitement, some abnormalcy to the body. This is why the treatment should be given by a practical nurse.

11. For 30 minutes only 3 times each week for this body, preferably when the body is prepared for retiring in the evening, we would use the low Wet Cell Appliance to carry Chloride of Gold vibratorially to the body, in the proportions of one grain to each ounce of distilled water.

12. Make the Appliance regular strength.

13. The copper plate would be attached to the 4th lumbar center. The larger plate, through which the Gold Solution passes vibratorially, would be attached to the lacteal duct and umbilical center, which on this body will be the width of 3 fingers from the navel center to the right, and 2 fingers up from that point.

14. Do disconnect and take the connection from the solution when not in use. Put together about 20 minutes before it is to be attached to the body. Keep the U-shape wire in the solution and the attachment plates very clean. Rub them off with the emery paper each time before attaching to the body, and each time when taking them off from the body.

15. Do these and we may bring conditions such that conception would be a helpful influence to the body, while under present conditions, it would not only be detrimental, but would be practically assuring that there would not be a correction of the disturbance. For these cells must be closed, must be functioning normally before creative energies through the system would be made manifest.

16. Do these and we will bring near to normal conditions for this body.

17. Ready for questions.

18. (Q) How long should these treatments be kept up in this manner? [Conductor’s question for clarification] (A) At least 90 days, changing the Gold Solution and the Charging Solution every 30 days.

19. (Q) Is her home the best place for her after leaving the sanatorium? (A) As indicated, either the home or some quiet rest home.

20. (Q) Will this condition continue to recur? (A) Read what has just been indicated. It will, unless corrections are made, and these will be made not necessarily by chiropractic or osteopathic changes, but by massage with the properties indicated and the character of treatment suggested. Use the cup applicator of the electrical vibrator, stimulating the segments in the coccyx, the lumbar and sacral, that the circulation may be correctly affected. Even 30 minutes may not be too long to give the vibrator treatments. Do not use the hard knob or flat applicator, but the cup, that is fairly stiff, you see.

21. (Q) Can her mother help her recover completely? (A) She may help, but there should be a companion nurse for at least half the time or longer.

22. (Q) Is there danger of suicide, as before? (A) Not if we do these things. Without - well, the body is not responsible, as indicated. This is possession, you see. But this comes and goes.

Do these things and we will bring near to normal conditions for this body.

23. We are through with this reading.

R1. 5/44 Comment by IMG: “Mrs. [3662]‘s husband came to the office for further consultation about his wife’s case. He told me that he showed his wife’s reading to Dr. B. L. A. of … Sanatorium …, Va. The doctor’s reaction was that a permanent cure was questionable, and that the Sanatorium was not in a position to follow the treatment outlined in the reading. However, the doctor did not discourage the husband from following the suggestions in her reading. The problem was the following: He could either leave his wife in the Sanatorium, or he could take her home to live with his mother-in-law, who would have to bear the entire responsibility. He would not be available, as he was being sent overseas. I expressed my opinion that for the best interest of his wife’s recovery, an effort should be made to secure a person such as described in the reading in order to help his mother-in-law care for his wife. When he left the office, he had not decided on a definite course of action.

B1. 2/14/44 Mrs. [3662]‘s husband, a Navy captain stationed in this vicinity, came to the A.R.E. office to be present for his wife’s reading. That morning, he gave the following information:

“My mother-in-law told me that when my wife was 5 years old, she fell from a bridge on a bed of rocks, cutting the back of her head in such a way as to require several stitches. Subsequently she became very nervous and high-strung. By the time she attended high school, she preferred studying to school activities, was unfriendly and had developed an antisocial attitude. During our courtship, she was an attractive, considerate young woman, yet withdrawn and moody at times. At the age of 27, she suffered a nervous breakdown, and became so violent that it was necessary to commit her to a sanatorium. My mother-in-law and I decided that it would be best for her safety. In due course, she apparently recovered. The following diagnosis and prognosis of my wife is given in Dr. B. L. A.’s letter of 8/2/43:

”’…In regard to Mrs. [3662], she was admitted to … Sanatorium …, Va., on 3/2/43. She was in a very excited state, under increased pressure of activity, talkative, irritable and abusive. She quieted down rather rapidly, and was discharged 4/11/43 to return home. Diagnosis: manic-depressive psychosis; manic state. Condition on discharge: recovered. Prognosis: good for recovery, but unfavorable for re-occurrence. Her laboratory work was all within the range of normalcy…’

“We took her home, and her condition seemed to improve. The latter part of 1943, she became restless and could not sleep. An additional factor developed at that time with regard to our marital relationship: her moodiness expressed itself in extremes of sexual frigidity or excess; while in the midst of one extreme, she would suddenly change into the other. For example, the following is a letter she wrote me on 1/29/44, while I was away from home on a two-weeks’ leave:

“‘I’m playing like this isn’t Saturday and just hope next week flies, but since thinking about it, believe you said you had the duty 2 weeks straight. Can’t stand it. I adore you. Just think, this is Jan. 29, and we may get the apartment the 1st or 2nd week in Feb… Mother and I are going down town this afternoon, and do some shopping and then we’ll go to a show. I washed my hair last nite and listened to a few programs and was really sleepy by 10 o’clock. I wrote Dr. B. L. A. a letter, will tell you all about it when I talk to you. I see so clearly how I do control mother and dad’s feelings. I have always known, until I was sick that I did control yours to a certain extent, but I never knew how much until now. If you think you’re happy now, just wait until we get our apt. I’ll bet now you never did think I would change like this. I realize you had always hoped I would change in some respects such as considering little things, and not forgetting you in a crowd. You’ve told me that so many times and I would really think about it at the time and intended to do it but never did. You’ve always said we would learn more and more about each other as time went on, and that there would always be little things we would find out as the years went by, and now I know that too. You have taught me so much about life, love and the understanding of people in the 4 years we’ve known each other, but I did so little talking to you then about such things, but you knew me and loved me so much that you knew I had good qualities if I would ever let them out.

Darling, I’ll never be content to just cease trying to learn new things and improving my mind as the years go by, and I know you won’t because you’ve never stopped - whereas, I did for a while. I’ve never been able to understand until now, why you loved me so deeply, because I’ve always felt you were far superior to me intellectually, and guess you know now why

• because you had been to college and I hadn’t. Wasn’t that foolish? We have presidents that have never been to school and I have made myself feel inferior because I didn’t go to college. This little mind of mine has really thought a lot of foolish things in my 28 years, but I’m so fortunate that I finally opened my eyes, because so many people never do, and I never would have if I hadn’t had you, my precious… I love you and you know it, thank goodness, and please always trust me. I have too much pride to ever be cheap, and I know you realize it. I truthfully don’t mind you wearing the watch now, but know you realize now you should never have worn it around me while I was in the state of mind I was in, but there are so many things about mental or nervous cases we never knew until now, and I know God was with me all the time, because He never did let me even attempt suicide but once, and then C. H. R. came to the door with the groceries, so He was watching over me then. I had it in my mind a whole lot, as you knew at first, and I never did look for poison any more after that time you took that away from me here at the house. I’m glad you told mother to watch me, because when she had to go to town she would rush right back, so I knew I wouldn’t have a chance to do a good job of it, so just finally forgot all about it. I would never have believed it, until it happened to me, that people having a nervous breakdown could remember all they had done and said, like I did. In some respects, it would have been better if I could have forgotten something - because that jail business worried me to death, that was one of the reasons I didn’t go up town, I felt like every policeman was looking at me, and I felt like all the people I had known looked at me with the thought in mind that I was crazy and had been in an institution, but your love and patience made me finally wake up. I can just write on and on, but have to stop. Take care of yourself - I worship you - your wife always. Want to kiss you so bad.’

“When I returned home, I told her that I had received orders to report for overseas duty. Her reaction to this information resulted in a complete collapse, and again she became violent, and on Feb. 2, 1944, it seemed best to return her to … Sanatorium in …, Va.

“On Feb. 7, 1944, Dr. B. L. A. wrote me as follows:

“‘Mrs. [3662] remains excited and disturbed and has not quieted down much since her admission. I do hope she will soon show some improvement, and that I will have a more favorable report to forward to you!’”
