This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of February, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3663], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Born January 27, 1881, in Sherman, Texas. Time of Reading 11:20 to 11:55 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Colorado.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Sherman, Texas - what a difference in what it is today, and what it was then! [Note: In 1944 there was a large Army camp in Sherman, Texas.]

3. Yes, we have the records here of this entity now known as or called, [3663]. Not all of these are pretty, if they were judged by the standards of morality, or beauty of today, or in any period, but who is to judge his fellow man?

4. Not all of the activities of the entity in the present experience are without question, but who is to question? For the entity must, as must each entity, give an account for the deeds done in the body. To whom must it give account? To the God-Force within self! And think, when it is hate and malice, jealousy and selfishness, what a poor, miserable soul has to bring as a body before the Lord its king!

5. In interpreting the records for this entity, these are to be interpreted in the mental, the spiritual or the metaphysical and not too much of the literal. For the entity must analyze self if these suggestions would be made applicable in the experience of the entity.

6. Know that there are immutable spiritual laws in the earth. Begin with: Like begets like. Whatsoever ye sow, that ye reap. This to this entity: God is not mocked, for as you treat your neighbor, you are going to be treated by the other fellow. Don’t think you can alter or change these, ever, in thy experiences. For these are spiritual, these grow, they magnify, by thought. You don’t change them by thought. The Master told you so. You can’t by thought turn one hair white or black, but you can eat carrots, you can eat potato skins and you can turn gray hairs black again. You can take small quantities of Atomidine over a period of time and you can make hair grow, or you can apply other elements and grow hair on bald places, and places that were hairy may be made clean.

7. But these are merely symbols. You cannot change the leopard’s spots (which has also been given as the symbol for the entity) but you can give good, clean entertainment to thy neighbor, to thy brother, that will be as much of a sermon as many of those given by ones who think one way, act another, and preach entirely different from either. The truths are: The Lord is one, and whether the lesson is obtained in a greeting of thy fellow man, in the words of wisdom to thy brother, or in the manner in which you swap horses with a man, it may be the same lesson given by the Master in the sermon on the mount! Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

8. These are attitudes, then; these are conditions in the heart, the soul, the mind of the individual, and ye make practical application of same as ye deal with thy fellow man. For in the manner that ye treat thy neighbor, thy brother, ye are treating thy God. And as to whether ye grow in grace, in knowledge, in understanding, depends upon the manner in which ye apply that ye do know. But seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you. And as ye would that others should do to you, do ye even so to them.

9. The experiences in the earth have been quite varied. Not all are given. Very few compared to the number, but thy life is far spent. There is much work yet to do, and thus only a few of these are to become as parts of thy consciousness in the rest of thy sojourn here. And be careful of that horse with the spot on the back!

10. Before that the entity was in the Holy Land among those peoples of Rome given privilege as an entertainer, as a soothsayer, by the Roman guard, and by those peoples of the outer courts of the gentiles in the temple.

11. There the entity used what might be called the orange shell game - finding the pea under the shell, only the entity used as a pearl taken from the Persian Gulf.

12. The entity, as Schelmezadek, gained in power because of the teachings under which he gained when Peter healed those people in the land following the coming to Antioch to preach the gospel.

13. Thus the entity became a power. He is spoken of there as being one who would buy the gift.

14. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land during those periods when individuals were prepared to become teachers or ministers, or those active in the various departments for the physical, as well as spiritual teachings.

15. The entity was among those who were to care for the herds and the stock, and the horses of Egypt. It may be said that the entity was one of those who found the need for preparing for the breeding of horses for special services in those periods of activity.

16. Hence the interest especially in things of that kind. But beware of the roan with the white spot on the back.

17. Ready for questions.

18. (Q) Will the heart ailment I am recovering from effect my attending to business in the coming years? (A) It will slow the entity up, unless there is greater precaution taken as to eliminations. Do have hydrotherapy and colonic treatments.

19. (Q) Shall I endeavor to follow the line of business that I have managed so successfully for sixteen years? Stock shows, including live stock exhibits, rodeo and horse shows. (A) This is well if it is done in the attitude and spirit that has been indicated.

20. (Q) Shall I try to find an individual or group to sponsor rodeos, etc.? (A) This is well, and they may be had in Denver, New York, Philadelphia, yea, even in New Orleans.

21. (Q) What proportion of net earnings from any endeavors should I give to the Association for Research and Enlightenment, or church? (A) These should be chosen by the entity. for what is to be given in this or that direction for any purpose shall be prompted by the real heart of the individual, and not by even a suggestion from others.

Dear Mr. Cayce -

I want to thank you for so promptly carrying out my request to have my reading of Feb. 16, forwarded to me here at San Antonio.

This reading is greatly appreciated. I have read it carefully, but I doubt that I have fully grasped the complete sense of it as quickly as this.

I can tell you now of the almost insane hate and venom I have carried in my soul for a group I felt have for years done me a grave injustice. I have been in a terrible state of mind and many times would have called down on them anything that would have exterminated them, if it were possible for me to do so.

To be sure I had been taught that this state of mind was unGodly - but my problem today is to have the right feeling towards that group you - of course, in your reading, call my attention to this horrible condition.

I do not know what rights I have or how far I can go in questioning you about, what exact interpretations I can put on some of the statements in your reading. If it is a question of further expense or the necessity of another reading, please let me know.

My wife and I are concerned particularly about your warning first, as follows, “And be careful of that horse with the spot on the back!” and again - “But beware of the roan with the white spot on the back!”

We took the first warning as possibly our way of saying that some person has a blemish on him - is not to be trusted etc., and watch out for such a one.

When you referred to the horse as a roan, in your second warning, just having described the entity as a horse breeder we have come to feel that I may look for some fatal injury from physical contact with such a roan horse.

If the latter case is true, may I ask how I should go about obtaining the information that might aid me in avoiding any such accident.

My wife has asked if it would be possible that we might run into such a horse on the highway and both meet with a terrible accident. I hope that you can clarify these warnings for us. I am sure any kind of an explanation of what other interpretation there is - will be appreciated.

Dear Mr. [3663]:

Due to Mr. Cayce’s illness I am taking the liberty of answering your letter of Feb. 22nd.

I don’t think that you should be unduly alarmed about the warnings regarding the horse. We have had similar warnings in Life Readings and they usually are about the same nature as adverse astrological influences.

Perhaps you just need to be careful of anything pertaining to horses, whether riding them, coming in close contact with them or any business dealings in relationship to horses. It could be simply a warning in regard to loss of finances on horse races and the like, if you are interested in that type of sport.

The Reading, no doubt, is merely suggesting that you keep this in mind and be careful in this direction. Hoping that this explanation will help to clarify the meaning of the Reading, I am

Dear Sir -

I want to express my thanks and appreciation for Miss Gladys Davis’ letter of March 3.

I feel much easier in my mind after reading it. I hope Mr. Cayce has recovered from his illness.

R5. 4/23/44 [3663]‘s letter to EC:

Association for Research and Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Virginia

Dear Mr. Cayce:

On March 11th I acknowledged Miss Gladys Davis’ letter of March 3, relative to your reference and warning about the horse with the white spot on his back, given in your reading for me.

I felt much better about the double warning after reading her letter. But still it’s past my understanding to reconcile the fact, that I was a breeder of horses in Egypt, and am warned against, as Miss Davis says, “Perhaps you just need to be careful of anything pertaining to horses, whether riding them, etc., etc.”

Answer #2 in your reading is favorable to me continuing my old business that of shows etc., which of course are all horses. Your Answer #3 is of course along the same line, and confirms the previous answer.

You will understand, that nothing I say, must be construed as a criticism of Miss Davis’ letter. I am trying my best to interpret your reading correctly.

I have repeatedly read and read and will continue to read and study all that you have sent me in the way of bulletins etc. and so far I feel there is a brick wall between me and all knowledge of good that you teach and that I try to absorb within myself. I am doing my best to correct my way of thinking which for years has been rotten. I am going right on trying, and have a realization that with all the wrong thoughts I have been harboring I can’t just shuck them like a coat.

You are the only person whom I have contacted in my 63 years of life who has through such contact with me, made me feel that when I am offering material aid to God’s cause, it was being done from the heart, and with a spirit of warmth and gratitude. That is the way I am giving you this $100.00. I feel sure its being done in the right spirit. You will use it as you see fit, I have no suggestions to make nor requests.

And by the way, all the horses with white spots on their backs can run and jump in the lake as far as we are concerned, I am not going to ask any more questions of you and your organization you have too many more important things to do.

My health is practically sound again and soon I will have to get actively to work on ways and means of making a dollar, after a years vacation, so to speak.

R6. 4/27/44 EC’s letter to [3663]:

Mr. [3663] …, Colorado

Dear Mr. [3663]

I am in receipt of yours of the 23rd, in which you enclosed a check as contribution to the work here.

We appreciate this very much, and without our friends remembering us like this, it would be mighty hard to get along with the research department of the work.

I am in hopes the little data that we are able to send you, as a member of this group, will prove to be as helpful to you as so many say it has been for them.

I wish I had an opportunity to sit down and talk with you about your reading. If there are any special questions about it that you would like for me to try and explain to you, I would be very glad to try and do it. I don’t know what Miss Davis wrote you, but her experience should qualify her to be able to give you a pretty good outline. You will probably get more out of it by reading it over once in a while yourself, for you grow in the understanding of what it is trying to say, as you try to piece it together and make it right, and I hope that you do.

R7. 6/20/44 Letter: ”…Some of the communications, I have received from you have said it is of value to your institution to have those who have had life readings report to you what progress has been made. Looking back in my file you can see that I was in a very bad frame of mind and just plain not headed in the right direction at all, when I first contacted you. One of the questions in my life reading was whether I should continue in the rodeo business in which I had been so successful, for many years. You said, “It is well” - if you are in the right frame of mind and treat your associates as you should.” A month ago I decided to come east from … On leaving home a friend told me to enquire about a rodeo that it appeared the Firemen in … wanted to put on for the benefit of their “old age pension fund”… I came here June first and was cordially received by the director of the fire department. I was a total stranger to him… He said he wanted the best rodeo in the U.S. When he found it he would recommend it to the Fireman’s Pension Fund Board. The deal is that the Firemen pay all expenses and that at the conclusion of the show they take 50% of the profit and we take 50%… In one meeting it came up that they as well as the police had always before taken 40% and given the show producer 60%. I said nothing when I heard it, but had a strong feeling that after treating them generously about extra expense and going on a 50-50 basis with them - that the fairest kind of treatment from us to their worthy charity could not in any way hurt us. In other words, as one of your pupils, I am more and more convinced that in treating the other fellow as is called sometimes “too well,” I am bringing blessing on myself… I know you are very busy, but I know, too, that you are very interested. I want to do what’s right on the ticket prices - not overcharge the public… My wife and I have prayed that we have God’s guidance as there is nothing other than that, that can make us to do the right we want to do. Do you think I should have a reading on this?…”

R8. 7/3/44 EC’s letter to [3663]:

Mr. [3663] …, Missouri

Dear Mr. [3663]:

I have yours of the 20th. We are a little bit late in replying because, as you know, we have had a very busy two weeks or more here as our Congress has been on and we have had people from most every part of the country. Even under the trying circumstances of trying to get reservations, we have gone ahead and had our meetings. We had a nice crowd and very good meetings.

I am most interested in your telling of your work with the good people of …, especially with the Fireman Pension Fund and the Board. I don’t know of any real comment that I could make, Mr. [3663], other than, as I am sure you will find, the way that you treat others is the way you will be treated by others. I understand that there is at times a great deal of difference in this matter. Many people get the idea that they have been mistreated by others, but I think if they would search their souls they would find it was the same attitude they had - if they hadn’t done anything they had been wanting to do it deep down within themselves and were just afraid and left themselves open to be done by someone else.

I am sure that you are going to make good. I will be anxious to know how everything works along. But I am very sure that so long as you keep the attitude as you indicate here, you not only will have success, but you will make friends. If I recall it properly, if you will turn to Joshua, the first Chapter and the eighth verse, and read, you see what is required of an individual if they expect to make a success or to be counted worthy in His eyes. I don’t know any better way to commend you than to say just so long as you keep those things in mind, don’t be afraid.

Dear Sir-

Four weeks ago I was stricken with a severe heart attack. The treatment my doctor says is at least six more weeks in bed.

Under very unusual circumstances I was asked to resign from the management of one of the country’s largest livestock shows which in fifteen years I built into one of the most prosperous shows in America.

I am 62 years old and am in only moderate circumstances and must find work as quickly as possible. I have been most successful in the Rodeo and horse show business.

Can you tell me, after I have recovered from this illness what kind of business I should try to get into?

Please let me know what your fee is so I can forward it at once. I do hope you can advise me.

B2. 9/20/43 [3663]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce -

Have read your letter of Sept. 14 and enclosures with much interest. Have ordered seven pamphlets from Mrs. Storey, and “There is a River” from Holt & Co.

I ask no proof of whether your readings are correct. I know they are correct. Have ordered the above literature for the purpose of becoming more familiar with you and your life work. I wish to ask if you will give my case a reading - in other words consider it.

As I stated in my letter a few weeks ago that my request for guidance was based on the fact that I was forced to resign my job as manager of a livestock show, and shortly there after was stricken with Coronary Thrombosis - have now been in bed six weeks and will have to remain there for at least 4 more weeks - which I understand is the regular treatment - that of rest.

My doctor tells me that the healing of the heart injury is progressing satisfactorily. My illness has been very expensive - just about taking most of my savings. I am in very moderate circumstances at best. My greatest ambition is to put on several horse show and rodeo’s in the east, where I think attendance should be good - at this time - and the shows profitable. In this I will need a sponsor - someone to finance the shows. The proposition would be that I would ask for a reasonable drawing account say $600.00 a month from the sponsor and some reasonable expenses, and 1/3 of the net profits and out of my third of the profits any advances previously made to me would be deducted and credited to sponsor. I have been with the Stock Show here since 1928 - the horse show and/or Rodeo has made a tremendous profit for the stock show - and by putting on the same Rodeo in the east, I feel absolutely convinced that it will be as successful as it always has been here.

I will soon be 63 years old - at an age not so easy to find a salary job - and frankly having been so successful with the rodeo, I feel I should want to put them on, and continue to make it my life’s work.

I don’t know what to do. Don’t really know what questions you would let me ask you. Any way I will ask some. I would like to know who the sponsor is who would finance the shows (rodeos)?

Is the show business one I should endeavor to follow? Will my present severe illness handicap me in any business endeavor? Shall I give up all idea of following the show business at which I have been so successful, and which is what I most desire to do; or try to get a job whatever sort it might be, and which down in my heart at my age I would dislike to take?

May I hear from you? I hope I have made myself clear as to what my problem is.

Our children are all married and live in other towns.

Neither my wife or I ever go to church. We feel God is with us - day and night and will protect us. But just now we both feel we need your help.
