Time of Reading 10:40 to 10:55 A.M. Eastern War Time. …, Michigan.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes - it’s cold!
-
Yes, we have the body here, [3679].
-
As we find, there are many conditions in the physical forces that are very good with this body. Yet there are disturbances, which at times upset the whole physical organism. These are physical expressions reflexing from a subluxation which has long existed in this body. While this has been of a minor nature, there will be found a definite lesion between the 5th and 6th dorsal centers. With this removed, and then measures taken to aid the liver and gall duct to react to the impulses of the circulation and the reflex action from cerebrospinal and sympathetic nerve system to the area from the ganglia at this center, we would find much better conditions for this body.
-
These, then, are the manners in which we would begin the applications:
-
First we would begin applying Castor Oil Packs for an hour and a half, twice each day, for at least three days in succession each week, over the liver and the gall duct area. Saturate three to four thicknesses of old flannel with the Castor Oil and apply to the liver and gall duct area, extending to the caecum area. Apply it warm and then use an electric pad to retain the heat - just so it is not too uncomfortable. Do this for three days - the same three days each week.
-
At the end of the three days, begin to take internally small doses of Olive Oil; about a teaspoonful three to four to five times each day. For, if this is in the beginning causes belching or regurgitation reduce the quantity and keep on taking it, at least every other hour during the waking state.
-
The next week have the Castor Oil Packs again, twice each day for the three days.
-
Keep up the Olive Oil until there have been thorough eliminations and until there are indications that there has been a draining of the gall duct area.
-
Then have at least eight to ten osteopathic treatments, with particular reference to the 5th and 6th dorsal centers, coordinating the 3rd cervical, 9th dorsal, and the sacral and lumbar axis.
-
Do these and we should bring better conditions for the body.
-
After eight to ten osteopathic adjustments have been made, then empty or drain the gall duct osteopathically.
-
In the matter of the diet - through the period that there is the draining, we would have particularly semi-solid or semi-liquid foods, preferably. Then a great deal of raw vegetables, prepared in many different ways, oft prepared with gelatin. Not too much meats, and no fats; not even butter during the first two to three series of these treatments. Soups and broths, fish, fowl and lamb, but never any foods fried.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Has some minor dislocation in the spinal column gradually caused the auditory nerves to become paralyzed? (A) This is rather a prolapsus of the Eustachian tube, but with the corrections in the dorsal area, setting up better drainages in the gall duct and liver area, we should find these corrections aiding the disturbances in the ear. It would be well, when the corrections or drainages are set up, that the Eustachian tube also be corrected osteopathically.
-
(Q) What causes the very pronounced snap, or cracking noise at the base of skull whenever the head is turned to either the right or left? (A) This comes from the disturbance in the lower dorsal or at the 5th and 6th dorsal, which does not coordinate with the 3rd cervical centers.
-
(Q) How can relief be obtained from the almost constant pain from one or two vertebra located between the shoulder blades? (A) By the corrections to set up drainages for the conditions that are causing neuritic reactions in nerves and muscles.
-
(Q) Are nerves inflamed or bone infected in nasal region? (A) This is a sinus disorder from a catarrhal condition that causes the prolapsus.
Do these things and we will have better conditions for this body. The head noises will be relieved and drainages will be set up in the liver and gall duct so that areas throughout the body will be improved. That causing the gradual loss of hearing arises from a liver and gall duct disturbance.
- We are through with this reading.
Two copies to Self (one for the osteopath - Please let us have the name and address of the one you choose.) Copy to Ass’n file ” ” Loose-leaf book in Library for indexing and study regarding deafness

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 3/7/44 [3679]‘s letter to Edgar Cayce: “I am following closely the instructions given for treatments in the report on my physical reading, and have requested Dr. Robert M. Ashley, …to give the osteopathic treatments. He has kindly consented to follow your suggestions in every detail.
“I am now on the last day of the second castor oil pack treatment, and will begin tomorrow taking the olive oil again.
“As I understand it, the osteopathic treatments are to follow these three days of olive oil. Am I right? And are the home treatments to be repeated later? or not.
“I feel that the spinal adjustment is bound to give great relief, and I firmly trust that the gall duct treatment may relieve much of the elusive disturbances.
“Dr. Ashley advises me that correction of the Eustachian tubes is generally done by a specialist, and he knows of one who is located in St. Louis. However, it may be that one may be located nearer than that.
“Thanking you for your kindest and with regards…”

Mrs. [3679] …, Mich.
Dear Mrs. [3679]
Such a long period of time has elapsed since we have contacted you and yet we are hopeful of an early reply with regard to the enclosed questionnaire on the reading given for you through Edgar Cayce.
In order to complete the necessary work in preparing the readings for microfilming, so much depends upon the interest and cooperation we receive from those who had readings.
Further, others suffering from similar conditions may benefit through the Association’s Advisory Board of Physicians making their findings available.
In addition to a detailed report on the manner in which you followed the suggestions in your reading, and the results obtained, we would also like to know if you can recall if the weather was sufficiently cold that it might have prompted the comment made by Mr. Cayce at the beginning of your reading. Such a report from the weather bureau near by would be most helpful to have, in light of our research work.
Your good thoughts, your continued interest and cooperation shall indeed be appreciated.
Most sincerely, [signed] D. Gladys Davis, Secretary [GD:img]

A. You will find same on the other papers attached. [See below:]
Regarding time of reading, I noted in letter sent soon after this date that Mr. Cayce had been away on vacation at that time. [GD’s note: EC was away - in Fla. from 3rd to 13th of Feb., 1944 - 3679-1 was given the 19th of February.]
Regarding “…subluxation” and “lesion between the 5th and 6th dorsal centers…” the Dr. to whom I went for treatment said there could not possibly be any connection between spinal column and my deafness. Suggestion for treatment impossible to follow. No knowledge of osteopathy vs. 5th and 6th dorsal.
Regarding “…liver and gall duct…” - perfect, first class condition.
Regarding Question and Answer 4: “Are nerves inflamed or bone infected in nasal region?” Answer: “This is a sinus disorder from a catarrhal condition that causes the prolapsus,” specialist found only that I was breathing incorrectly. No other condition was to blame.
Regarding “That the gradual Loss of hearing arises from a liver and gall duct disturbance,” this is totally wrong.
The osteopath I chose was Dr. Robert Ashley, Wyandotte, Michigan.
None of the treatments were beneficial in any respect. In fact, I spent over and above the
20 paid Mr. Cayce, more than75.00 in fees. All this is a far cry from the healing one is lead to expect from reading the “book” and literature sent out by your Foundation. Now that you are attempting to carry on (a profitable game no doubt) after the “healer” himself is dead strikes me as a matter that would be greatly frowned upon by the postal authorities.I have long been greatly incensed by the fact that money was sent (in good faith) and I not only had reason to doubt that I was given ANY personal “treatment” by the Author himself, but the whole thing left the taste of chicanery.
My minister who brought Mr. Cayce to my attention, was himself so indignant when I showed him the “reading” and the letter about Mr. Cayce’s vacation at that same time that he strongly advised me to take action right then to uncover a possible fraud.
However - now since this is all being continued quite evidently for GAIN ONLY I am a little bit more than tempted to present my case to the authorities.
Anyone, suffering deafness, as I do, or any other prolonged ailment, are easy victims for any offer of help that is presented, and the suckers are always available to keep almost any illegitimate practice prosperous.
I do not feel your foundation has a legitimate cause to exist under the present circumstances.

Background
Background
B1. 10/12/43 [3679]‘s letter to EC: “I am pleased to hear that the morning of February the 19th, 1944 has been offered for my physical reading. That date is entirely satisfactory, and I am grateful that one so early could be made.
“Sometime before then I will send the list of questions, which I feel should cover my particular difficulties.
“I am enclosing 25 cents in stamps with the request that you send me which ever booklet will be of greatest value in preparing me for this reading.” [3679]
B2. 10/15/43 EC’s letter to [3679]: “Replying to yours of the 12th, I do not know just what would be the best to send you, consequently, I am sending you a much more expensive one than what you asked for. I am sending you the book, ‘A Search for God.’ The price is $1. If you do not want it, return it, but I believe this is what will really help, especially the chapter of Meditation.
“Thanking you and hoping that we may be of a real help on February 19 and a few days before that time, send us a list of questions, also give us the exact address at which you will be at the hour.
“Hoping then to be of a real help, I am,” Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
B3. 2/4/44 [3679]‘s letter to EC: “As the date for my physical reading draws near, which is the morning of Feb. the 19th, I find myself seriously considering just how best to ask my questions in order to present each disorder that I so earnestly seek relief from.
“As stated in my first letter, deafness and the accompanying head noises are my chief affliction. However there are some conditions existing which I believe should have prior consideration in the reading.
“Specialists have told me that the auditory nerves have gradually become paralyzed and this has caused me to wonder if some minor dislocation in the spinal column might not have caused this. However, to my knowledge I have suffered no remembered injury of that nature, altho I have some trouble centered in the upper part of the spine.
“My first question would be: 1. What causes the very pronounced snap, or cracking noise at the base of the skull whenever the head is turned to either the right or the left? and what can be done to correct this condition? 2. How can relief be obtained from the almost constant pain I suffer from one or two vertebra located between the shoulder blades.
“Before asking the next question I should like to make this explanation. For more than four years I have had a nagging pain in the bridge of the nose. This pain resembles toothache so much that I have sacrificed many good teeth thinking the trouble was there. This pain is always most severe upon awaking in the morning. It extends up into the forehead and also around the inner side of the left eye. Specialists and x-ray fail to find anything that might cause it.
“The nasal passage - left side - is frequently entirely closed but there is little or no evidence of mucous. It is more like a fluctuating swelling. The sinus seem to be free from infection, and I wonder if it is possible that the nerves are inflamed or if the bone is infected. This pain causes me to have a constant scowl which is most embarrassing. My next question would be as follows: 3. What causes the pain in the left nasal region, and what treatment is suggested to correct this disorder?
“I experience great difficulty in remembering - especially what I read. This means I lose many valuable things that should be held in memory. The dimming of that faculty, together with the difficulty I experience in using one word when another one entirely is meant, may simply indicate ‘age’, altho I refuse to believe that. I feel confident if I were relieved of the head noises and these few pains, I would be quite normal.
“My last question would be this: 4. What relief can you see for my deafness and the head noises?
“This seems to be a very big order, but I do not know how to cover the case in a briefer form. I trust it is clear enough for your needs.
“I shall be here in my own room at home the morning of February 19th in meditation and prayer, and shall await with keen interest a report of the Reading.
“I do want to thank you for the various publications I have received, all of which I have greatly enjoyed reading.
“With very kindest regards, I am…”
