GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [3686].
-
As we find, considered all in all, there are very good conditions with this body. While there is not the best coordination between the impulses of the body and the central nervous system, we find that if the body would rather be itself and its age, it would - with minor changes - build back to greater strength and vitality.
-
There are those tendencies for a nervous digestion. Much of this in a manner is produced by the attempt to overenergize the creative forces or the nervous system of the genital system. This naturally brings excess energy to the solar plexus, to the base of brain, to the general activity of body, and thus depletes the heart’s activity and in a minor manner depletes the blood pressure.
-
As we find, for regenerating the body, refrain from those excesses through the activities of the imaginative system and of the genital system, for periods of at least six to eight weeks.
-
Cleanse the colon with colonic irrigations, ten days apart. For there is a tendency for a plethoric condition in the ascending and transverse colon.
-
As a stimuli for more blood and body-building, more resistance in the system, we would take a heaping teaspoonful of KalDak once each day, preferably in the evening. First dissolve this in a little hot water and then fill the glass with milk.
-
We would have at least three of the high colonic irrigations, however - and these at least ten days to two weeks apart, before beginning with the KalDak as a tonic or to tone the system.
-
Occasionally have a general osteopathic stimulation to the cerebrospinal system; once a week for three to four weeks, leave off a week to two weeks, and then have three to four to five more treatments.
-
Do that, if we would make better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Will this treatment strengthen the voice? (A) It will strengthen all of the reactions of the body-forces.
-
We are through with this reading.
Two copies to Self - (one for the osteopath - Please let us have the name and address of the one you choose.) Copy to Ass’n file

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 3/11/44 Letter from [3686]: ”…The reading that you sent me arrived in due time, and I immediately ordered the Kal-Dak, which also arrived very promptly. I started taking it right away, but have delayed starting the colonic irrigations, because the natural movements are occurring so regularly that I feel it would upset them to begin artificial elimination, even though you recommend it only once every ten days or so, for an indefinite time, as I understand it, although you do not say for how long this should be done. I have arranged for an osteopathic treatment every week, starting last Tuesday. His name is Dr. Guy L. Rumelhart. I gave him the carbon copy of your reading. He had never heard of you,… but he seems to be very fair minded, and certainly gave me a good treatment the first time. Please let me know if you think I should start internal baths, or colonic irrigations, regardless of the present regularity of my intestinal functions…”
R2. 3/19/44 Letter from [3686]: ”…A week ago I wrote and told you that I had not carried out your instructions regarding taking colonic irrigations, and the next day I thought I would start doing so. Now I wish I had not, as I did not have another natural elimination for four days, and since then nothing to speak of has occurred. On top of this I am having the same old symptoms that showed up last fall, full feeling around the kidneys and a tenderness in abdominal region, from which I had been free for two or three months. In taking the colonic irrigation, I used about two quarts of water, warmer than body temperature, and it brought good results, so far as bringing about a good cleanout is concerned, but the after effects concerned me more, and I think I should not repeat that process - at least, not for a long time, until my general condition improves more. I have been regularly taking Kal-Dak, as suggested, and already have had two osteopathic treatments. I’ll have two more before I let up for two more weeks, and then take a few more. If you have any suggestions regarding the colonic treatment, let me hear from you at your convenience…”
R3. 4/16/44 Letter from [3686]: ”…I talked with the osteopath, telling him of the results of the first colonic treatment and he suggested another way; that I first take about a pint of cold water, leaving it in the colon for perhaps ten or fifteen minutes, expel it and then take about 1-1/2 quarts of water about body temperature. I followed his suggestion, and the results were the same as before. While I got good results, immediately after the treatment, I have been all out of order ever since. I have not had a natural action of the proper quantity or quality, since taking the last colonic treatment, and am in discomfort most of the time, so far as my stomach is concerned. Seem to be too full always, and while there isn’t exactly what I would call a pain over both hips, it is very uncomfortable. I think I should let such treatments entirely alone, and rely on nature to act for me. I was getting along fine until I took that first water treatment. I don’t know how long it should be before I begin to get results in other ways, so far as speaking is concerned. So far I notice no difference. Talking is just as hard as ever for me and as before, particularly in the office where many typewriters and other office machines are operating continuously. However, I am not giving up hope, and believe that eventually the change will come although at times I get rather discouraged. I meant to ask you before about your report of the reading given me. You never reported to me on any of the questions I presented. Was it an oversight or didn’t you have any answers for me? When could I have another reading for the purpose of finding out why my intestines seem to get ‘tied up’ so much after these colonic treatments particularly. At that time, you might also find out something else important for me to know…”
R4. 4/30/44 Letter from [3686]: ”…I have taken no more colonics since I wrote before and feel better without them. Have been pretty regular and natural lately and do not care to disturb nature under the circumstances. I have also been taking additional osteopathic treatments, with some emphasis on treatments of the neck with an electric vibrator but so far with no results in voice control; that is, no change in results. However, I’ll take a few more of those treatments and then see what follows. I am still taking Kal-Dak, having bought a second supply. Wish you would please advise if you think I should get more when this is exhausted. I note your suggestion that you will take a check-reading at some future date, without expense to me, to see what has been the trouble…”
R5. 5/8/44 Letter from EC to [3686]: ”…I would like to suggest that you begin your treatments from the beginning, completing the course, giving special attention to the second and third paragraphs - for unless this is adhered to, the mechanics suggested will be of very little help. If you do not understand these two paragraphs, we will be glad to clarify them for you. The fourth paragraph indicates a plethoric condition in the ascending and transverse colon, thus there is a need that the colon be cleansed, regardless of the regularity of movements. You will find your reading easier to follow if you will write out a schedule of the entire treatment - then study it carefully, giving special attention to analyzing the third and fourth paragraphs. Then complete the entire treatment…”
R6. 5/14/44 Letter from [3686]: ”…Your letter of May 8th gave me a great deal of satisfaction… I may not have carried out your instructions to the letter after the reading of February 22nd and this may possibly have been one of the reasons, if not THE reason why I have not experienced the relief that I had expected. I sent for Kal-Dak immediately and began taking it as soon as received. Also I started taking osteopathic treatments right away. I may account for this in that I was so anxious to get relief that I did not wait to carry out each step of the suggested program in the order given by you… However, after the next reading, or check-reading, I agree that I will follow instructions exactly as given in your first reading, or the one to follow, if there is any difference. If I failed to take the steps in their proper order, certainly I want to correct my own error in that respect. I still feel that over-anxiety was the reason for doing otherwise… Several years ago I went to the Mayo Institute in Rochester, Minn., where I was given a thorough physical examination covering two days. The following spring I went back for a check-up. The results showed negative, so far as anything in my throat or upper chest are concerned; that is, anything abnormal. The report was that my trouble was caused by nerves. No treatment was suggested or given. Time was to overcome the trouble. I had two or three examinations here in …, by that many specialists, who could find no evidences of anything unnatural, or abnormal, and the nervous system was given credit for the trouble. However, since I have had eight osteopathic treatments very lately, by Dr. Rumelhart, he has stressed his treatments on the throat itself. He reports that the muscles or cords seem to be too hard, or tensed… I would say that the list of questions given you for the first reading should cover what I would ask at this time, with possibly that one regarding cohabitation, which you suggest that I leave off for several weeks. Two or three weeks ago I had a decayed tooth that was giving me a lot of trouble. I had it filled, and for a couple of days the ache was all over that side of my jaw. I had X-rays taken of all of my teeth, and was advised to have four teeth pulled, one upper and one lower on each side. The teeth on the right side had not bothered me at all, neither any teeth on the upper left. Just the day after the X-rays were taken, there was no ache anywhere, neither has there been since that day. I have no teeth extracted, and doubt if I should, under the circumstances… I know that many dentists are anxious to pull teeth and try to find more trouble. I just mention the above in going over my physical condition of late. Besides that I had another check-up by an M.D. about three weeks ago. I wanted to know just how I stand. Heart is good; lungs O.K.; blood test O.K.; blood pressure 122 over 80 (the last time only 120 over 80); urinalysis negative. I have been very easily tired lately and wanted to know if I need a tonic. One was recommended and I followed the recommendation. Feel much better at this time…”
Background
Background
B1. 9/25/43 Letter from [3686]: ”…To go back to when my trouble began it was in the summer of 1934 that I had a severe siege of coughing, and it lasted for three of four months, after which my voice gradually began to lose its strength. I thought for a time that there was a growth in the throat, but I went to Mayo’s at Rochester, Minn., and had a thorough examination and was told that there was nothing organically wrong. Since then I have had other such examinations, and I am told that nothing but a neurotic condition exists. My voice is very bad now, but I am working every day in a government position, and the condition of my voice doesn’t seem to affect my work, although I know that if I were able to speak properly, I would be given more remunerative employment. When the trouble started, I was a traveling salesman for an eastern firm and I think through the failure of my voice I lost my position in the course of time, although I was given two more trials after it began to get real bad. The last time was in 1940, and I know that I lost some business because I was unable to carry on a conversation in a natural way… It would be worth a great deal to me to regain control of the seemingly paralyzed nerves or muscles which control the quality and quantity of sound that normally should come from the voice box… When I want to sing, which occurs frequently, I just can’t do it. My voice just won’t obey my mind. I have tried Christian Science, in which I have been interested for many years, and my first wife was a devoted Scientist… My present wife is not a Scientist, but believes there is a cure for me somewhere…”
B2. 11/13/43 Letter from [3686]: ”…At about the time the voice began slipping my normal weight was close to 180 lbs. when dressed for the street. When I went to Mayo’s at Rochester for a check-up, I weighed 170 lbs. stripped. Today I weigh about 155 lbs. dressed and that much of a loss is something to think about. Probably much of my trouble has been brought about by worry. When my first wife died of ulcerated intestines six years ago, it followed quite a long siege of very poor elimination… Her experiences have remained in my thoughts. I don’t want that same condition to get a start with me, but my stomach has given me quite a lot of trouble. I am not a heavy eater, yet am considered a good eater. There is a little difference in my favor. The last couple of years I have used more milk to drink than ever before, thinking that it would not only help me to put on more weight but also, because of a natural food would help straighten out the slow and irregular bowel action. I can’t see that it does either, and of late have experienced more uncomfortable feelings in the region of both kidneys, than I ever had before. The load from my stomach seems to back up toward the kidneys; excretion is hard and lumpy and sometimes has to be forced, through enema treatments. This I refrain from doing often, and possibly do it not more than once in two months.
I had to use this treatment last night. When I am sleeping, the kidneys give more trouble than at any other time. They almost hurt me before I arise in the morning and after being up for a while, I am much more comfortable. When sleeping on either side, my stomach seems to be very heavy, bearing on the kidneys and when sleeping on my back the stomach seems to be too heavy to be right, yet it is not big. There is much rumbling through the intestines, more when on my back than at other times. This is true also when I am in a reclining chair, reading. To get back to the voice trouble; that started nine years ago, and came on very slowly. I had a siege of coughing that lasted for several weeks; it may have been two months or over and from then on, control of my voice commenced to get more difficult. If I am in a quiet place I can talk with only a little difficulty, but if there is any more than usual noises around me, or if I am half way in a reclining position, or flat on my back, it is almost impossible to make myself understood. In my business, it is more or less embarassing, but people with whom I associate every day have come to understand my trouble and are patient with me. It seems strange that efforts to talk come from the stomach or below the stomach, and while I formerly was a very fast and very good reader, I make more mistakes now than ever before in my life. Some are caused by having to stop because I cannot properly enunciate and at other times I cannot get started. To begin a sentence with a vowel is almost impossible, and yet such consonants as ‘g’ also require throat action more than lip action and they also stop me before I get started… I might mention one other thing in connection with my physical condition. I have a slightly enlarged prostate gland for several years, but the physician who examined me at the time I first felt such a condition existed said it was not enlarged enough to worry about. Lately I have felt that this might account to some extent for the poor elimination that I have experienced. I hope I am wrong… With regard to my voice, the cords seem to be inert
- which has often led me to believe that there is a partial paralysis of those cords…”
B3. 11/27/43 Letter from [3686]: ”…While I am really very active for one of my age, my muscles are too soft, and I want to overcome this condition… For your information, several years ago I had an X-ray examination, to determine whether or not I had stomach ulcers. It showed negative and I was told at that time that I have a very small appendix. This has not troubled me lately although I do have a very full feeling in that part of my body, at times. Does smoking effect either my voice control, or my lungs? Is it the cause of very short breath? Should I quit it, for my own good? What can I do to prevent constipation? Does a diet of some meat, daily have anything to do with such irregular bowel action as I have, when my stomach seems to get so full that its contents, or what has passed into the intestines, seems to be crowded back toward both kidneys? (That is where I have much discomfort when bowel action slows.) Does intercourse, only about once in ten or twelve days, effect the prostate gland? (While this action takes only a short time, it takes away my breath, quickens the heart action and seems to make my insides quite sore the next morning. You notice I say it SEEMS to do that; something else may cause that sore feeling, but it disappears shortly after rising.) Would dead teeth, (teeth with nerves killed) be likely to cause any of my physical troubles? I have two that were treated and filled many years ago and at the present time, have no tooth trouble. I still have 27 of my 2nd teeth. Is there anything to longevity following right through several generations?…
I am going into a general description for the reason that while I am getting a reading for one physical defect, I may as well cover them all. For my financial good, the voice trouble is my greatest problem… I am feeling much better lately and think much of my discomfort has been due to wrong eating, which I am trying to correct.
B4. 12/28/43 Letter from [3686]: ”…I feel that my vocal cords have been partially paralyzed, and that perhaps that condition may be overcome through the medium of a reading, as I have faith in Divine power and guidance, and will carry out any suggestions that may be given me through your suggestions… My physical condition has much improved since I last wrote you, and I am sure that the worst of the stomach trouble I was then experiencing has passed out of my system, of consciousness…”
B5. 2/1/44 Letter from [3686]: ”…I somehow got the impression that if I ate more solid foods, elimination would become more natural and regular, and have since found this to be true. I believe that I was unconsciously starving myself, eating too little of solid food, and too much liquid and the change in my intestinal functions has really surprised me, to say the least, and I am happy to say that I feel 100% better than I did a couple of months ago… The questions that I desire answered now are as follows: What can I do to increase my blood pressure, which is about 120? Does a slightly enlarged prostate gland, (if it exists) give me any trouble, either in elimination or intercourse? What is the cause of short breath? Is it asthma, or does it come from intercourse every week or ten days, or sometimes two weeks - does this affect my heart action - or does it come from smoking, or what? I used to have what I have heard termed ‘nervous stomach’, noticeably when someone was talking to me when I was uninterested in the subject. That has quit, but I have a similar effect in my eyes. When I have to listen to something that doesn’t interest me, it is hard to keep my eyes open, or on the speaker as I should, and it causes embarassment to me. Is the cause of this apparent nervousness the same as that which is the cause of my loss of voice control? The latter has been worse lately than usual… Often during my sleep I am awakened by terrible cramps in my lower legs and toes. Generally I can stop it by getting up and walking about for a minute or so, but occasionally I have to keep it up for several minutes and the pain is intense. Does poor circulation cause it? Could it be due to low blood pressure? I have asked medical men and they have no answer for it. While the voice trouble is probably the most important to me, I have often thought that worrying about it has caused the others; worry seems to not exactly make me nervous, but inwardly it may have something to do with everything I am including in my list of physical defects. I am positive that if I overcame the voice trouble, I would be able to do better in everything I do. I have opportunities for advancement in my work, but am afraid to tackle some of them because it is so impossible for me to speak properly and distinctly enough, particularly where there is the slightest noise…”
