1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes - we have the anxieties about the body. And well may it be! For here we have an undeveloped reflex from the brain forces of the body. It partly comes from karmic conditions, partly from what might be called an accident at the time of birth.

3. For there are lesions through the brain center itself. Thus there is quite a variation as to how the reflexes react with the body. For there comes certain cycles. All portions of the body come under varied cycles as changes are wrought. For the body fully and completely changes in seven years. Yet this is something continually going on, and various portions change at various reflex periods. And from astrological aspects (so called) it might be said that it gets about all the good there is in it. For various individuals, under various cycles of course, are subject to changes as they pass through the various periods of the Zodiac. But most astrological reflexes are about three to four degrees or periods off with many individuals, as we have indicated before.

4. This is not belittling astrological influences, just showing the inconsistency of such at times.

5. This, however, has much to do with this body, and it will be found that there are certain periods when there is a great deal to be desired in the ability to control the body, in its brain reflexes as well as in the sympathetic nervous system.

6. We will find for this body that suggestion, with the gentle neuropathic massage, will have more beneficial effect upon the body than all the medicinal properties, all the other characters of treatments that may be given.

7. It would be well that the short wave treatments be given occasionally, but that which is of a very low nature, that is almost static; as may be had from the Wet Cell Appliance, not carrying any element at present into the body, but a Wet Cell Appliance that is very strong, that is, half again as strong as the ordinary charge.

8. Use this in the same manner as the Radio-Active Appliance is ordinarily used; that is, to the opposite extremities - for thirty minutes each day.

9. This should be applied just before the neuropathic massage is given daily.

10. These as we find, will bring better coordination and we may eventually bring better conditions for this body.

11. These we would do for six months, and then we would give further instructions.

12. Every thirty days recharge the Wet Cell Appliance.

13. The suggestions should be made whenever the treatments are given, and these should be done daily - almost throughout the whole period that the Wet Cell Appliance is attached. Do these neuropathically.

14. Ready for questions.

15. (Q) Who should give the suggestion? (A) Whoever is going to give the treatments - a neuropath!

16. (Q) Can his life be adjusted to a normal, physical and mental one? (A) Read what we have just given. You can try.

R1. 3/30/50 Report by E.C.F. campaign worker, Helen Wenzel: “Asked about reading for son. Said they hadn’t made use of it. Couldn’t make head or tail of it. Said it was something about gold solution. Emphasized that not for one moment did she regret the reading or the experience. Felt Mr. Cayce was most sincere and not a fake.”

The following notes were taken on cases as read and are merely the opinion of the abstractor at the time he read the case plus the correspondence. The main value of these notes is that they give some indication of what the exact diagnosis in each case may or may not be.

Case [3688]. Given in 1944. 6 1/2 year old male. This case was classified in group 1. In this case there was a history of convulsions since the age of 2 1/2. The reading describes lesion in the brain center itself and not in the lacteal duct area. The reading did not give too much hope for improvement. There is reason to suspect that the parents did not follow the readings at all. No follow-up.

B1. 12/27/43 Mother’s letter to Edgar Cayce:

“Last week a friend of mine came to me with a book called ‘There Is A River’. This book came to me in answer to a long prayer.

“I have a boy who is now six and a half years old. At the age of 2 1/2 in January, 1939 after an apparently normal life, he was suddenly stricken with convulsions. At the outset, the attacks were mild. Then in June 1939 they became quite strong and frequent. He has been hospitalized and observed over long periods of time. The medical profession has given me little if any aid. Various drugs that were administered had detrimental effects on his mentality. On various occasions I have been advised to institutionalize him. But I have worked with him - disregarded the greater part of the medical advice given me, and I have succeeded in giving him mental stability and normal habits. In fact I have reached the point where he can attend the kindergarten. For some five months he was free of all attacks. Suddenly on the 12th of December the attacks recurred and he has since had a few more.

“Since the onset of this illness I have lived in dread and fear. Not fear for myself but for my boy. Even my mother would say that she could not bear to watch him. So that I have been his constant companion and only nurse. I want my boy to be a normal, happy, healthy man.

“You who are so interested in ‘doing for children’ - please advise me. I await your answer with eager anticipation.”

B2. 1/5/44 Mother’s letter to Edgar Cayce:

“When I wrote to you on the 27th of December, it was with the high hope that before many days had gone by my boy, who has been suffering for four years, might be afforded a God given opportunity towards a solution to his illness.

“When I received your reply I felt that it was impossible for me to wait nine to twelve months for a reading. This is an emergency! Healthy normal children are of the essence in this world. Further delay might result in irreparable harm.

“I turned to the friend who had given me the book by Thomas Sugrue. She is an assistant nurse to Dr. U. Salmon, in turn, is physician to Mr. David E. Kahn and his family. I took the liberty of communicating with Mr. Kahn. Today my husband and I were privileged to spend an entire afternoon with him. I am too excited and elated to go into the details. I can only say that we were so deeply impressed that we came away with the need to go to you at once. We are planning to come to Virginia Beach for the weekend of the 15th of January, if only to meet and speak with you. We come in full faith and with a deep determination to follow all suggestions.

“Enclosed please find Associate Membership Application in the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Incorporated together with a check in the sum of twenty dollars.”

B3. 2/9/44 What caused this condition? Is this condition a product of his own body or are others of the same root subject to it? Why doesn’t he walk properly? What impairs his speech? What makes his behavior so unruly and unpredictable? Why is he so restless? Why the confusion in his train of thought? Can his life be adjusted to a normal, physical and mental one? Are the brain ventricles normal? Are there any permanent injuries or defects in his brain or other parts of his body? Is there any irregularity in his brain waves? If there is such irregularity, is it due to the same cause? Can such irregularity be eliminated and the brain waves returned to normal rhythm? Is the medication that he now receives proper? If so, should it be continued indefinitely? What course should be pursued? Should he attend the school provided for the average child? If a special school is required, what school would you recommend? Should any particular doctor be consulted? Should there be a check reading, if so, how soon?
