This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of February, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3689], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving the time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the record here of that entity now called [3689].

3. In giving an interpretation of the records here, there is much to be considered; for we have an unusual entity. Yet the entity is one who has become so engrossed in self that, unless there are some changes, he won’t make much of himself - yet there are the abilities to accomplish even as much as Julius Caesar. But don’t make a fool of yourself as he did. If you do, you’ll be murdered by your same partner again.

4. In giving the interpretations of the records here, we find there are many phases of this entity in its experiences in the earth, in the activities through the earth, to be considered - any many warnings to be given, as well as much praise. But never think too highly of yourself and never belittle yourself too much. But set this as your motto and don’t forget it:

5. Study to show thyself approved unto God. But who is your God? [3689] or the Creator of heaven and earth? Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman never ashamed. Do that in body, in mind, in purpose, which you will not be ashamed to present to thy Maker; rightly stressing the various phases of the experience in the earth. Don’t become cranky - you have almost lost hold of yourself at times in feeling sorry for yourself. You have nothing to feel sorry for! God is just as mindful of you, though you have made a wreck of some people’s lives - and you’ll have to meet it. But that ye are alive, that ye are conscious, and that ye have the opportunity in this period to apply self in the reconstruction of what man is to look forward to, should encourage thee to know that God is mindful of each soul.

6. Then use the abilities that you have, and you have many. For ye are a natural leader of men.

7. Whenever ye possess thine own self, and not what you would want people to think - not being all that you would have them to think - ye have the ability to lead and direct others.

8. Ye have a naturally roving spirit and it would be well to join either the Navy or the Merchant Marines and “see the world.”

9. Yes, do that. For ye will see many, many varied things. But keep the self unspotted from the world; that is, do nothing physically or in thought - that you’ll be ashamed to present to thy Maker or to the woman you love. Don’t be ashamed, and don’t ask others to do something that you would not do yourself nor to be something that you are not yourself. Then keep the self unspotted from the World. This should not be as your system or policy but it should be your religion. For all that you may know of God is within yourself. What are you doing about it? What are you doing with it? Are you proud of the way you have treated some people? Would ye like for thy God to treat thee in the manner you have treated some people? Look within. For there ye may know if God is within thine own self and what ye are doing about it. Use it, don’t abuse it. Use it to the glory of the Father. Then it will be to the honor of self.

10. As to the appearances in the earth, these have been quite varied:

11. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity, but ye chose, ye sought through the periods of ‘49 to journey to other lands seeking for gold.

12. Ye found it, but ye abused the use of it. Then in the name Horace Kellogg, the entity gained and lost. Still ye are seeking - seeking. Begin in the right direction. Remember that God is not mocked and whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Time and space are only relative. Know that ye must meet thine own self, and in the manner that ye treat thy fellow man, thy fellow woman, ye are treating thy Maker. Are ye proud of some of the things ye have done? Some of them you should be proud of. Some of them you should be very ashamed of. You know them, and ye know that thy Maker knows.

13. Before that the entity was in the Roman land, being a great admirer of and one close to Julius Caesar; then in the name Aquillan. Though only a servant or a companion, ye were in power because ye harkened to the whims of those in authority. Thus ye may in the present be a leader, but in what direction? Know that it is not of self. But if ye would manifest activities in which the glory is to be to thy Maker, see the world - yes - the sea will be better, and thy health will be better as ye go down to the sea. But prepare thyself as in that experience. You would have helped, had there not been others. Remember that you, too, may have thine own Brutus, unless ye put more trust in the Creator, the Maker. Remember, He has given thee an opportunity - don’t abuse it.

14. Before that the entity was in the Holy Land when there were those gatherings of the people from other lands. Ye were among the natives, but ye were “smart” as it were, for ye were among those who used the Joshua to make peace - for ye were among the Hittites, in the name then Jebel.

15. It is well to be subtle, but don’t fool yourself - and you know you’re not fooling yourself, even when you fool others. But ye used this too good account for the material gains. Did ye use it as well for the spiritual gains? “Not by might and power, but by my spirit, sayeth the Lord.” This learn in all of thy undertakings.

16. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, being sent as a emissary to the Gobi land.

17. Thus all lands are a part of thy consciousness, for ye are the natural rover. But use aright. For God hath need of thee, if ye will apply thyself to His service.

18. Then again would we give thee, study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman not ashamed, right dividing the words of truth and keeping self unspotted from the world.

19. Ye must eventually be - after thy service in thine own country - a representative of thine own land, or an organization with a heart, with a soul, in dealing with others in other lands.

20. In what is now China, Indo-China, the southern seas, may be those places where a greater service may be given.

21. We are through with this reading.

Dear Sirs:

I have read in your monthly bulletin that your office would be interested in the accuracy of the Psychic Readings given by Edgar Cayce, as well as the condition which prevailed in the person’s home at the time of Reading was taking place.

As you will recall, I was very anxious to receive the Reading which took place February 22, 1944. The majority of the statements given in the Reading were strangely accurate; in fact, they were so much so that it was rather startling. The Reading moved me very deeply, especially as an aftermath of what had occurred earlier.

However, the main decision which I was going to make after perusing the reading did not work out. The Psychic Reading recommended that I either join the Navy or the Merchant Marine; in fact, it said that I would. At the time of the reading I truly desired to join one or the other but even after repeated attempts, I was unable to join either service because of my 4-F classification. I am now all out of the notion, and possibly believe it was for the best that I did not do so. I once had a very expert astrologer cast my horoscope; and he wrote that I was a mental traveler whereas your Psychic Reading said I was a physical traveler. Actually, I have never done very much physical traveling, and do not like to travel very far at a time.

During the time that the psychic Reading was supposed to have taken place, I was reclining, my eyes closed, on a couch, and after a few moments there seemed to appear a very white and wide halo of light in the atmosphere almost five or six feet above me. At the same time that this occurred, there was a voice that come to me from within or without - I do not know. This voice said: “Peace upon thee, my son.” These words seemed to thrill me through and through with a deep sense of humility and relief. That is all.

This is the report that the bulletin called for. I want to thank you very much for sending the Reading as promptly as I requested.

This fall my brother has a physical reading scheduled. I certainly hope it is as accurate in its physical diagnosis as mine was otherwise.

Some years have passed since you received a Life Reading from Edgar Cayce. No doubt much has transpired in that interval for you - we assure you it has for us. As you probably know, Edgar Cayce passed on from this plane in January 1945. Since then, because of the readings and because of the eternal good that was Edgar Cayce’s life, we are impelled to carry on certain phases of this work. No small influence in this regard are the mounting requests with which we have been literally besieged from those who did not receive personal readings and who have heard or read about Edgar Cayce and his work.

We are positive that a law of universal validity lies behind the Life Readings and one of our projects is to be able to state that law in terms so simple and so complete that no one

• absolutely no one - can gainsay its truth. To this end we solicit and need your help. Will you please take the time to fill out and return the questionnaire below? The happiness of many lives may be in the balance between your doing this and your not doing this.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Answer all questions as completely as possible. Merely “Yes” or “No” is insufficient if you know inside yourself that you have more thoughts you want to express. Remember that thoughts are deeds and that the final judgements are on the thoughts, not the deeds or actions. 1. Do you still have a copy of your Life Reading? I do.

2. How many times have you read your Life Reading? (If many times, give approximate number.) Twenty at least.

3. Did you read it to or with someone else and, if so, what was the relation of the person to you? I read it several times with my wife.

4. Have you given a copy of your reading to anyone and, if so, what was the relationship to you of that person? No. I have never given a copy to anyone.

5. How recently have you read your Life Reading? Last Month I read it.

6. In what respects do you feel that your Life Reading was (1) true, (2) false, (3) correct, (4) imaginary, (5) hocus pocus, (6) inaccurate, (7) incomplete, (8) trivial? The Reading was true in a general sense. The main principals were all right but details and exact times were very general.

7. Do you believe in a reincarnation of the soul and, if so, why? I do, because this theory is the only logical and just type of existence that a Ruling Being could give to mankind.

8. What is your idea or concept of Karma? Is it (a) a state to which people aspire, (b) a state to which an individual aspires, (c) an environmental influence, (d) a hereditary influence, (e) something you yourself have done or thought or left undone and unthought in a previous incarnation? Karma, I think is the personality summary of our actions in the past, this life and all past lives.

Please bear in mind that the above questions are primarily for the purpose of stimulating thought. We would like to suggest that in bringing this report up-to-date that you comment on each paragraph OF THE READING. The report given in your letter of 7/25/44, indicates that you did not find it possible to join the Navy or Marines, as your reading suggested. Perhaps that has, since that time, worked out for you. If not, what line or work did you decide upon? Did your reading help you in making this decision? To what extent has your reading shaded your thoughts, actions, activities? Explain in detail. To whom do you feel that your reading was referring when there was a reference to “your same partner” - (see 1st paragraph of rdg.)

There is the indication that you might be a representative of this country - “after thy service in thine own country” - OR - “an organization with a heart, with a soul, in dealing with others in other lands.” Has this, as yet - in part, or otherwise - come into the scope of your experience?

Your reading speaks of China, Indo-China, - the southern seas, as places where a greater service may be given. Has this presented itself as an opportunity, or otherwise?

Any items that you feel would tie in with the information given in your reading, would be most helpful to have.

I was with the Navy and Merchant Marine for about a total of 2 3/4 years. I have since gone to work for the YMCA as a Boys Work Director. The YMCA might be referred to “as an organization with a heart, with a soul, in dealing with others.” However, I still have an inclination to work for the Government in some way.

I have had no opportunity to be of service to China - or Indo-China yet. I have traveled up and down the Pacific Coast from Canada to Mexico for the YMCA.

I have compared this Reading with a Horoscope I had a very fine Astrologer make. Strange as it seems that they agree in general terms but not in details. They both said I would be of service to humanity, said that I would travel, etc.

I understood the reference to “your same partner” as meaning my present wife. Perhaps it also meant that we were married before. That I am not sure of.

The whole Reading acted as a counselor to me as I have read it.

9. Have you in any respect consciously changed your (1) vocation, (2) thoughts, (3) actions or reactions toward others as a result of your Life Reading? Yes, I have been consciously guided in some of my thoughts, but not my vocation entirely.

10. Assuming your life to be no casual accident or experiment, do you have any new or different concept as to the purpose of your life as a result of your Life Reading? The only different concept about my life that I have is that I think I should always try to get closer and know my inner or Higher Self.

11. Have you ever systematically or otherwise set apart any part of your day, week, month or any other period of your time for introspection or an examination and analysis of your inner self (and we do not mean writing in a diary) as suggested in your Life Reading? If not, why not and, if so, are there any results measurable to you? Yes I have set apart a regular time for introspection and meditation each day.

12. Do you regard your vocation, whether it be as laborer, supervisor, manager, official, engineer, lawyer, doctor, housewife, mother, or what not, as the dominant force in your life or do you look upon your vocation as an agency through which you can the better fulfil your purpose in this life? I look on my work as an agency that helped me fulfil a purpose in life.

13. How, in your opinion, can our Association best carry on the work of Edgar Cayce and the good for which he stood? His teachings about mysticism and occultism seem best proved by his readings.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Sometime ago I wrote you and told you how timely, helpful and unique was your book of readings, “A Search For God”. Then you were kind enough to send or have sent a copy of your biography, “There Is A River”. I read this work slowly and thoughtfully. It gave me and others what we consider clinching proof of our philosophy and work. I plan to lecture on the book, before the Rose-Croix University, next month.

While reading the story of your life and experiences I was filled with reverence and sincere belief in the power or powers that work through you. While reading I had planned to write and ask for the proper procedure to follow in seeking a reading about my brother’s health. He, […] has been sick these last eight years and has been treated unsuccessfully by many.

Then someone very kindly sent me a copy of your BULLETIN of the ASSOCIATION and it suggests many benefits that can be derived from a “Life Reading”. Due to the fact that in the next few months I will make a decision which will determine the course of the rest of my life and work I feel that such a reading will be of benefit to me. Would you please have sent to me papers or procedures for the “Health Reading” of my brother and a “Life Reading” of myself.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Your letter of Oct. 11, 1943 said that my life reading would be taken “the afternoon of Feb. 22, 3:30 to 4:30 EWT.”

I am most anxious to receive the reading as soon as possible thereafter. Therefore I am enclosing four (4) air mail stamps and a special delivery stamp for use in sending my life reading to me. If these are not sufficient I will make up the difference immediately.

The reason for this is that by the 26th of Feb. I MUST MAKE A CHOICE in vocations. My choice depends upon so many factors that I am bewildered. These factors can be briefly summarized into the following: What type of workers will I most readily get along with? My physical ability is limited and therefore the work must be within my powers of endurance? My educational background has been that which has prepared me both for teaching philosophy and for writing? Yet I am where I can go into either field or combination of both with occultism? My public speaking has opened up an avenue in radio? For the last year I have been a silver service employee in Naval Ordinance in order to help the war effort. Shall I leave it now, stay in it, or try to go further in ordnance by enlisting in the Navy with my limited physical capacity? Then last there is the unknown field of my past reincarnation, for I do believe in it, and my latent talents which will come to the surface over a lifetime.

I will be ever grateful for your help and advice on the above problems. Already I have been instrumental in sending for a physical reading for my brother […].
