This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of February, 1944, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [3691], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. (Notes read to and transcribed by Jeanette Fitch.)]
Time of Reading 11:10 to 11:20 A. M. Eastern War Time. N.Y., N.Y.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes. Here we find very disturbing conditions. For here we have those conditions both of the mental and karmic nature, as well as the results produced by these in the activities of this body.
-
Some are prenatal, rather as of the entity as a soul-entity meeting itself. Thus this is not a condition to be shunned or to be put away by those who are responsible. For these are parts of the activity needed in the soul-development of those responsible for this body.
-
This, as we find, in time and in patience may be eliminated to where there may be normal conditions.
-
When these cares have been taken, there should be an operation - but not until the body has reached the age of at least sixteen to seventeen years. Then the reproductive glands removed will prevent this accumulation from the lacteal duct areas, and the activity in the area of the 1st and 2nd cervical, where the convulsions cause the contraction in this area to the brain.
-
But through these periods in the next four to five years, there should be kept periodically the use of the Castor Oil Packs. Do this regularly, an hour a day for at least a whole week out of each month. Apply the Castor Oil Packs over the liver and lacteal duct area for one hour each day for a whole week. The next month do the same thing.
-
Follow these applications each day with a thorough massage, breaking up the tendency for contraction in the lacteal duct area and the gall duct area, and in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd cervical. Also the coccyx end of the spine should be relaxed, after each of the Oil Packs.
-
These will keep down these contractions.
-
And then, when the body is sixteen to seventeen years of age, have certain operations as indicated.
-
Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What activities would be good for her? (A) Those in the open a great deal, but never where there is not an attendant.
-
(Q) Has her illness anything to do with failure on the mother’s part? (A) No, but the mother may contribute to the entity’s soul-development, as well as to her own in meeting the problems.
-
We are though with this reading.
Two copies to Mother - (one for the osteopath or masseuse who is to give the rubs following the Castor Oil Packs) Copy to Ass’n file ” ” Loose-Leaf book in Library for indexing

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/10/44 Mother’s letter to EC:
“I want to thank you for sending us our Readings. After reading [3690]‘s, we were concerned over the fact that her health depends upon the removal of the reproductive glands. She is such a BORN ‘little mother’, and even at this age (11) often speaks of ‘when I have children’ and, ‘my house will be in the country, and I intend to have such fun with my kids.’ Everything about her leans exactly to this picture. She is so wholesome, cheerful - her disposition is really remarkably alive.
“So, we are, naturally concerned. It looks as tho’ she may have to give up this vital thing - a natural heritage. Isn’t it possible that things may change in the next few years? That another Reading in four or five years may show this step to be no longer necessary?
“About the treatment, I applied to an osteopath here in the city but he was not at all in sympathy with the treatment prescribed, and suggested his regular osteopathic treatments, and that if we wished we could apply the Castor Oil Packs ourselves or elsewhere. Do you know anyone here in the city who would follow your instructions to the letter and with faith?
“Could we also correspond with people who have been helped? It would be so reassuring, while we wait.
“About my own Reading [3691]. I will have to some time take time to write at length. At this time, we would like to start [3690]‘s treatments with as little delay as possible.
“Thank you for a reply at your convenience - I appreciate how pressed you must be for time…”
R2. 3/21/44 Mother’s letter to EC:
“I am writing again - to ask for a reply to my letter of a few weeks ago. I know how busy you are (I read the bulletins regularly) but in this case, we are anxious to start [3690]‘s treatments - and it is now more than a month since we received her reading. We applied at an osteopath as directed, but he wasn’t in accord with the directions - he was for applying his own methods, and we were to pocket the reading. So we had to leave him. We don’t want this to happen again, but we don’t know where to go. In my previous letter we asked if you knew of an osteopath in N.Y. who would be willing to follow the directions as-outlined.
“We are awaiting a reply anxiously, because we want to start these treatments as early as possible. It means so much in so many ways. An early reply will be a relief.
“P.S. It would be encouraging while we wait to be able to correspond with people having similar experience…”
R3. 3/25/44 Edgar Cayce’s letter to [3691]:
“I don’t know why that you shouldn’t have been told in your first correspondence the doctors who are in sympathy with the suggestions made in the readings.
“I am sure if you will go to see Dr. George N. Coulter, 18 East 41st St., and show him your reading, he will not make fun of you, or if you will go to the Reilly Health Service, R.C.A. Building, he has a very fine osteopath connected with his institution. I am sure you can find someone who will be willing to cooperate with the suggestions.
“Hoping that you will soon be able to get the treatments, and everything will be fine, I remain…” EC
R4. 6/11/51 “This patient [3690] never came to me for treatment.” Signed: George N. Coulter, D.O., 18 E. 41st Street, N.Y., N.Y.
R5. 6/12/51 Letter to Gladys Davis on Reilly Health Service Letterhead:
“In answer to your recent communication and questionnaire, we do find a copy of a reading given on February 17th, 1944 on [3690]. However, we have no record that she ever came in for treatment.
“Sorry - but this is all the information we can give you.”
Yours for a healthy nation, William H. Eigen
R6. 7/2/51 Mother’s report:
“I applied the Castor Oil Packs as outlined for about six months. We also hired a masseuse for her. I cannot remember whether I tried to get in touch with Drs. Coulter or Reilly, but I think we decided on having a masseuse to the house because it was difficult for me to travel with [3690]‘s at the time.
“We performed no operation as designated because such an operation is a very vital thing - might not be the entire answer and would mean no children for [3690]. We couldn’t make such a decision for her.
“The attacks are now fully controlled by medicine - she has made good progress in her studies…and if we haven’t done just as the reading requested in a measure we should be forgiven because we weren’t sure.
“I hope I have been of some assistance to you…”
R7. 7/28/60 Letter to Miss [3690] from Dr. Walter N. Pahnke, M.D.:
“I need your help in carrying out a research project in which I am engaged. I am examining the Edgar Cayce records in an attempt to determine common patterns in the forms of treatments recorded in certain diseases. I am trying to discover the practical value of these treatments in the cases for which the readings were given.
“One of the diseases I am studying is epilepsy. I have read your mother’s follow-up report written in 1951, which describes very satisfactorily the treatments given to you following the reading and the results up to this time. I would very much appreciate it if you would send me the developments between 1951 and the present time. I would like to know 1) are you suffering from convulsions of any kind now? 2) are you currently under treatment for epilepsy and if so, what are these treatments? 3) did you ever have a hysterectomy as recommended by Mr. Cayce? and 4) if you are no longer suffering from convulsions, when did the convulsions cease and to what do you ascribe your cure?
“You may be certain that your answer and your original reading and correspondence will be kept strictly confidential in my analysis of the material.”
Sincerely yours, Walter N. Pahnke, M.D.
Background
Background
B1. 2/10/44 Letter from mother: “For my daughter I am anxious to find a cure for convulsions, which, though mild, are disturbing. I have kept the nature of this disease from her, feeling that it would only aggravate conditions, if I were to tell her of it. Yet, I know that some time I will have to explain it to her. She is very emotional, and susceptible to suggestion, especially illness. How shall I handle this effectively? Since the birth of my son, who I love dearly, she feels left out in my affections. I, too, feel a great sense of guilt, yet it is hard for me to pretend. I am at a great loss in this direction. Has her illness anything to do with this failure on my part? [Date of Onset - ‘About December 1941.’]
“Please advise the mother how to best help this body? Has her illness anything to do with failure on the mother’s part? Can she be well? If so, how soon? What activities would be good for her? She has tremendous enthusiasm and I think a good avenue for expression might help her. What do you think?”
