This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 18th day of February, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3691], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Born November 3, 1906, in Bronx, New York City, N.Y. Time of Reading 10:55 to 11:20 A. M. Eastern War Time. New York City.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane; giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes - what a funny, funny record!

3. We have the record here of that entity now known as or called [3691].

4. The life seal of this entity would be very interesting to some, for it would be the horn of plenty upon a background of blue. The horn should be not so as to pour out, yet not so that it would be entirely up straight, but on about a forty-five degree angle and to the right rather than to the left.

5. In this would be packages of seeds on which would be written the fruits of the spirit. The horn of plenty should be in variegated colors. On each of the seeds should be written; love, patience, long-suffering, gentleness, kindness, brotherly love. And these should be written so as to show the apparent wish to flow out, yet the position preventing same. In this is the whole lesson for the entity.

6. For, as we find in analyzing the records here, these we choose with the hope and desire that this information may be the means of the entity better fulfilling the purposes for which it entered this present sojourn.

7. It is not by chance, or merely for the gratifying of the desires of the body, that the entity came into this particular experience at this period. For the entity’s own unfoldment it was needed, as may be indicated in the environs that have been brought to the body itself, as to how patience and longsuffering are to be shed in its own immediate environ and never lost sight of. For these are materially manifested in associations one with another.

8. There are abilities in abundance within the entity for activities, if they are put into use from the seed of the spirit of truth, and not from those of hate, malice, jealousy, the things that make people afraid, those things that cause timidity within the associations, and fear.

9. For as has been so oft quoted, and so little interpreted in people’s lives, the consciousness of God’s presence, as manifested in Christ, casteth out fear - casteth out fear! and shall make one free indeed! Not free in that of lewdness or selfishness, but in the way of “A new commandment I give you, that ye love one another, even as I have loved you.”

10. This the freedom that makes, is it were, for this body the whole world akin and less and less of those things that have disturbed the body in its relationships with others, in relationships in its home and with its neighbors.

11. Astrologically we find Venus, Jupiter, Mercury and Mars all become a part of the experience. The abilities are many - as a home builder, as a teacher, as an instructor or director in varied activities. And the entity needs to apply each of these phases of its abilities with the spirit of truth daily.

12. Then budget the time, that there may be a regular period for sustaining the physical being, also for sustaining the mental and spiritual being. As it is necessary for recreation and rest for the physical, so it is necessary that there be recreation and rest for the mental. The spirit is willing, the flesh is weak. Do not court the flesh, but do give voice and heed to keeping the body as the temple of the living God, as indeed it is. Purify it. Keep it clean - in physical, as well as in mind, that it indeed may offer that channel through which thy Maker may speak to thee. For as He has promised, “I will meet thee in thy temple of thine own body.” Communicate then, in prayer, in meditation, in thoughtfulness - not as to how ye may be this or that but as to how ye may do this or that for thy Maker. For thy fellow man. For the manner in which ye treat others, is the manner in which thee are treating thy Maker.

13. As to the appearances in the earth, not all are given. For these have been quite varied.

14. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity during the early settlings. The entity was engaged in those activities for entertainment, or those things that would enable others to enjoy an evening; as charades, as speaking parts, as dancing, as music.

15. All of these, then, have their place in the experience of the entity, yet the entity soon grows tired of these unless there are certain elements that may be put into same. These are to be kept rather under control than allowed to control emotions of the entity.

16. The name then was Marie Kathy.

17. Before that the entity was in the French land, during those periods when there were questionings arising from the peoples in rebellion in England, when Charles II was in exile in France.

18. The entity was acquainted with many of those who were associated with that entity; the retinue of peoples, individual groups who, while not wholly those who would foster the acts of Charles, were sympathizers, were those who spent much of their time, yea of their means in doing so.

19. Again the entity was an entertainer as a musician, among the friends of that entity.

20. Then in the name Charlotte Carouet, the entity gained and lost. Yet as indicated, from the seal, there are the needs of patience, brotherly love, gentleness, kindness, longsuffering. Not as a martyr to such but as one giving freely to such. For if one would have life, one must give life; if one would have love, one must give love and show one’s self lovely. This is the natural, this is the spiritual law.

21. Before that the entity was in the Persian and Arabian land, being among the Persian people taken by the raiders on the school, as companions.

22. The entity, then, through those variations that came about with the establishing of “the city in the hills and the plains” when there were the interpretations, and many becoming a part of the activities there, became active in what would not be called hospital work or that having to do with general principles of helpfulness to those less fortunate.

23. The name then was Alameda.

24. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain and how:

25. First, find thyself and thy relationships to thy Maker, not merely by an activity of the mind but make it concrete - that is, set it down on paper, so that it may be alone for thyself. Analyze thyself. What is thy ideal spiritually? Who is the author of it? What is thy ideal mentally? What constitutes thy ideal? Do ye measure up to thine own ideal? If not, why not?

26. Then, when ye have analyzed it, use it, apply it. Know that the Lord is in His holy temple. Have ye kept thine own temple holy? If He be not with thee - ye alone can answer.

27. Keep thy paths straight. Keep thy activities in that direction having to do with entertainments of any character, those having to do with teaching, yea with the home. These are the channels through which the entity may make the greater contribution to the meanings and the affairs of the earth today.

29. (Q) Why is it so hard for me to “give out” in love and appreciation? (A) Ye will find the answer in analyzing that which has been indicated; that unless ye measure up within yourself, ye have nothing to give.

30. (Q) What is God’s will for me? (A) That thou should study to show thyself approved, a workman not ashamed, rightly dividing the words of truth, keeping self unspotted from the world.

31. (Q) What is blocking naturalness? (A) Read that indicated.

32. (Q) How can I be of the greatest help to my husband […]? (a) Keep in touch with and interested in those things in which he is interested. Work together, not let either be as a drain upon the other.

6. (Q) In what respects do you feel that your Life Reading was (1) true, (2) false, (3) correct, (4) imaginary, (5) hocus pocus, (6) inaccurate, (7) incomplete, (8) trivial? (A) (1) True, to some extent; (7) incomplete.

7. (Q) Do you believe in reincarnation of the soul and, if so, why? (A) I believe in the soul but not quite in reincarnation.

8. (Q) What is your idea or concept of Karma? Is it (a) a state to which a people aspire? (b) a state to which an individual aspires, (c) an environmental influence, (d) a hereditary influence, (e) something you yourself have done in thought or left undone and unthought in a previous incarnation? (A) (e), if there IS incarnation.

If not, why not and, if so, are there any results measurable to you? (A) Not systematically - but I have and do give it much thought.

(Q) Do you regard your vocation, whether it be as laborer, supervisor, manager, official, engineer, lawyer, doctor, housewife, mother, or what not, as the dominant force in your life or do you look upon your vocation as an agency through which you can better fulfill your purpose in this life? 13. (Q) How, in your opinion, can our Association best carry on the work of Edgar Cayce and the good for which he stood? (A) I cannot say because I know so little of it.

Upon reading my “reading” the last time I found one or two things which I didn’t understand and couldn’t answer - for instance: What is your mental ideal - what is your spiritual ideal?

I can understand and appreciate some of the advice, but find it hard to put to practice. I don’t think that my personal relations with others have improved at all - much as I would like to change - because I don’t know how to go about being different. It is one thing to know you are lacking or wrong

• quite another to make an about face.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

The Life Reading for myself and the Physical Reading for my daughter are both scheduled for the 17th of February.

For my daughter I am hoping to find a cure for convulsions which, tho mild, are disturbing. I have kept the nature of this disease from her, feeling that it would only aggravate conditions, if I were to tell her of it. Yet, I know that some time I will have to explain it to her. She is very emotional, and susceptible to suggestion - especially illness. How shall I handle this effectively since the birth my son, who I love dearly, she feels let out in my affections. I, too, feel a great sense of guilt, yet it is hard for me to pretend. I am at a great loss in this direction. Has her illness anything to do with this failure on my part? Will she be well? And soon? What activities would be good for her? She has tremendous enthusiasm, and I think a good avenue for expression might help her. What do you think?

About questions for myself. What is God’s will for me? Why is it so hard for me to go out in love and appreciation? What is blocking naturalness? What can I DO, step by step, to attain peace of mind…rightness. I am filled with confusion, guiltiness, inadequacy - sometimes I think I must leave, so that those around me me be released and find some of happiness - especially my husband - he is so GOOD to me, and loves and believes in me, and yet I have harbored unspeakable feelings, which despite my guilt, I cannot rid myself of. What can I DO? What MUST I do? Why have I never been able to take life by the hand? Never! I don’t feel myself worthy, but your answer is a last resort. I know that I’ll have to wait even afterward, but at least I am hoping to be able to do do constructively. I have been very ill, and still am, but somehow, sometime perhaps I’ll walk out of this darkness.
