GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes - beautiful country.
-
We have the body here, [3705].
-
Now as we find while conditions are somewhat allayed from those that have existed in the general physical disturbances of the body, these depend a great deal upon the manner in which the body controls its appetites or its activities - as to whether the body will be continually on the improve.
-
In times back there has been a great deal of acidity or, owing to the position of the stomach, regurgitation. This caused the acids of the hydrochloric formations through the duodenum to regurgitate in the pyloric portion of the stomach; thus causing first lacerations and reached those proportions of some ulcerations. At the present we find there is little of this, yet there is the thickening of the walls of the pyloric portion of the stomach itself. This with the applications that have been taken causes more acidity to be manifested in the upper portion of the jejunum and through the lower portion of the duodenum; thus causing the accumulations or formations of a great deal of gas in the system. This acidity, passing on through the alimentary canal to a great extent, has caused the walls of the lower portion of the abdomen to be so relaxed at times as to allow the folds even of the abdomen to become irritated - in the caecum area and across the lower portion there.
-
These cause a hernia. We find that these are the sources of disturbances in the main through this body.
-
About twice or three times a week for the first two weeks, and then once a week, have osteopathic corrections that would align the portions of the upper dorsals so that there is a better position maintained by the natural muscular forces that control the pyloric as well as cardiac portion of the stomach itself.
-
These also would be materially aided if there would be worn about the abdomen or at the area along the diaphragm and just below; this as an elastic or just a cloth adjusted to the body would be beneficial. During the periods of the osteopathic corrections and the correction of the position of stomach, with the adding of the properties we will indicate to reduce the caloric intake or production in body, it will be necessary that there be a relaxing so that the alimentary canal may be the better cleansed. Use occasionally colonic irrigations to purify the colon. Whether there are the regular evacuations daily or not, do cleanse the colon and we will find that the bacilli through same that acts with the digestion will correct the condition as related to the hernia much better than injections to cause contraction, for these measures are superficial, while those that may be brought about by the use of the corrective measures and the properties taken may aid nature to adjust itself, and the adherence in the wall of the peritoneum will be of such helpful forces as to bring much better conditions for the body.
-
We would take regularly with the meals a small quantity of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin with Milk of Bismuth; about six to ten drops of Lactated Pepsin in half a glass of water with three drops of Milk of Bismuth. Take this regularly for a week then leave off about three to four days and then take again.
-
Also take once a day, after the heavier meal - whether this be breakfast, lunch or dinner - Willow Charcoal tablets with honey as prepared by Battle Creek Sanatarium. This character of charcoal would be the most beneficial.
-
In the diet do not take quantities of fats but a great deal of body-building forces, and only honey as sweets. Fish, fowl and lamb may be taken as meats. While wild game would be well for the body, but none of the foods should ever be fried.
-
Do these and we will bring better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What is the condition of my heart? (A) As the conditions of the alimentary canal are better we will find there will be a better reaction in the heart activity or in the respiratory system. This is a sympathetic and not an organic disorder.
-
(Q) Should I then leave off the injection treatments for the hernia? (A) After the body has well begun the other treatments, yes.
-
(Q) Could an osteopath be suggested to follow these treatments? (A) Any good osteopath will find the subluxations as indicated in the upper dorsal areas.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 4/7/66 Mrs. [1770]‘s report: “After much searching we finally obtained Elixir of Lactated Pepsin for my sister as recommended in Case [3705] for ulcers. The next day I was amazed to see this article which points up the recent discovery of lactose deficiency in many ulcer patients and the inability to digest milk, which previously has been one of the main foods prescribed in the ulcer diet:”

METABOLISM
Milk, Enzymes & Ulcers
Countless peptic-ulcer patients are put on a bland diet rich in milk and cream. If they then get cramping abdominal pains, nausea and diarrhea, even worse than their original complaints, their doctors usually put them on a still blander diet - meaning more milk. If such patients shirk their milk drinking and their symptoms diminish, the usual explanation is a quick, glib suggestion that they must be allergic to milk. Not so, report two University of Colorado doctors in the JOURNAL OF THE A.M.A. The trouble is far more likely to be a shortage of the enzyme that the body uses to digest milk sugar (lactose). For such patients, more milk means only more trouble.
To use lactose as fuel, the body must first break it down into two simpler sugars: glucose and galactose. The enzyme that does the cracking is lactase. Nature intended babies to live on milk, and lactase deficiency is fortunately a rarity in the newborn, but the incidence increases with advancing age. According to Georgetown University’s Dr. Stuart H. Danovitch, writing in GP, as much as 10% of the adult population may suffer from lack of lactase. Colorado’s Dr. John E. Struthers Jr. says the figure may be as high as 30%, though many people have only a moderate shortage that causes them no distress.
The effects of severe lactase deficiency can be both distressing and dramatic. After drinking a glass of milk, the victim soon doubles up with cramps that may spread across his entire distended abdomen. He suffers nausea and flatulence, and then a profuse, watery diarrhea. The mechanism of these reactions has now become clear, say Dr. Struthers, and his Colorado colleague, Dr. Fred Kern Jr. Lactase is supposed to do its sugar-splitting work along the lining of the small bowel; if the enzyme is missing or in short supply, the undigested sugar passes into the large bowel, where it is promptly fermented. In the process, it generates gas and draws water into the bowel.
Patients who have had part of their stomaches removed for gastric ulcer, along with victims of ulcerative colitis, diabetes, and a variety of abdominal disorders, including acute intestinal infections, are all especially liable to lactase-deficiency difficulties. Now that the results of research in lactase function are being drawn to doctors’ attention for use in their daily practice, the A.M.A. JOURNAL has been moved to rhapsodize editorially: “What a joy to the clinician to find the arcane skills of research scientists directed to such matters as bloating, flatulence, cramps and diarrhea!” The JOURNAL adds: “Some patients will now acquire a new dignity, with the status of enzyme deficiency rather than neurosis.”

B1. 9/3/43 Wife’s letter: “I read about your wonderful work in the August ‘Rosicrucian Magazine’. I wondered if you would help my husband, he has hernias which are very bad, low blood pressure, and lots of gas in his stomach. As we are farmers it is hard for him to do his work. I do hope you can help him as he hasn’t felt well for a number of years.
“I did not enclose any money as I was not sure of this reaching you.”
B2. 9/5/43 Form letter sent.
B3. 12/17/43 [3705]‘s letter: “I am asking for a Physical Reading, enclosed check for $20.00 for same and years monthly Bulletin.
“The doctor says I have ulcer in the stomach, low blood pressure and then I have hernias.”
B4. 1/5/44 Questions from [3705]:
What will cure my stomach and keep it well afterwards? What shall I do for my hernias? Will the treatments I have been taking cure them? Is my heart all right?
I have what the doctor calls ulcers of the stomach. My stomach is sore and have to eat something to relieve the bad feelings. I am short breathed. Haven’t much strength or energy.
Then have bad hernias or ruptures. Have been having injection treatments.
