This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 9th day of July, 1928, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [3735].

Time of Reading 12:00 Noon - Eastern Standard Time. …, Pennsylvania.

GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
Now, in understanding the physical forces that give rise to disturbances with this body, it will be well to understand the psychological effect of pathological conditions with the physical body, especially as to reference with conditions in this body; for, while not so much at present, or recently, as there has been at times in the past, there has existed in the mind of the body that effect of there being two different bodies in reaction at times; that is, at times feels entirely separated from itself, as if the activities from same would be contrary-wise to those at other times and periods. In giving that as will meet the needs of the conditions, as given, it will be necessary to understand the psychological effect of pathological conditions in a physical body; for we find there is in the nerve reactions of the sympathetic system that condition which - reached in certain forms of conditions wherein the eliminations and assimilations being affected by and through certain nerve ganglions - brings about the physical reaction, or a pathological condition which is basically psychological in the effect in the body. The body then being affected, as would be given, by psychological conditions or at times by suggestion, at others by sight, at others by a feeling that would be indescribable to another - yet experienced by the body in such a way and manner as to be purely pathological or physical reaction from purely psychological conditions - see? Pathological meaning, in this sense, that caused by functioning of organs physical in the body. Psychic meaning, or psychological meaning, that of the mental or mind reaction. Not that the physical reaction is any the less severe; not that they are purely mental in their effect created (Now get the difference between AFFECT and EFFECT in this sense, for they mean entirely different conditions when associated with pathological and psychological conditions in a physical body!). These, as given, have to do with the effects created through assimilation and elimination, yet affect the organs of the body in ganglions that have to do both with the gland and the nerve system. Hence the changes IN the effect as is created (EFFECT now!) in the system. The AFFECTATION coming both through the organs’ functioning and the organs acted UPON by the nerves from those so acted upon. As is seen in the case of the nervous indigestion created at times. At others the abnormal effect of appetites on the system, as the desires to do or to be or to commit those things that physically are known to disagree with same - see? These, then, are conditions to be met.
-
To meet these in the present conditions, we find there needs be added those vibrations to the system that will bring about the proper coordination between the cerebrospinal, the sympathetic, AND the glands as bring about the NOMINAL equalization of that assimilated by the body. Not hindering nor overtaxing in this bringing about of the equalization in eliminations, but keeping them - as it were - ABOVE the normal.
-
To meet these would require, then, as we find, these applications for the body:
-
That of the Radio-Active Appliance (manufactured by Thomas B. Brown, 139 West 2nd Street, Dayton, Ohio), using the Chloride of Gold in the battery formation that is added to or connected to the umbilicus, alternating that of the positive anode from wrist to ankle - see? Do that.
-
At the same time this appliance is being used (and it should be used at least an hour each evening when the body is ready to retire), the vibrations of manipulations, every other day, should be so given that the assimilating and eliminating system (that is, through the plexus of the secondary and direct cardiac, and those of the 2nd and 4th lumbar and sacral) would be stimulated to their nominal reaction for the body as created by the changed vibrations.
-
As to diet, the body keeps that NOMINALLY in mind. Activity towards same must be kept in unison with that known for the body.
-
Do that. When this has been taken for sixty to ninety days, then we would give any changes necessary to bring more normal forces for the body. But remember, the body must keep a nominal condition between pathological effects an psychological affectation in mind in making the applications for the physical conditions of the body. Psychically the body is above normal; mentally is highly developed, and may apply same in directions that would bring much good to many.
-
We are through for the present.

Mrs. [3735]
Dear Mrs. [3735]
The information obtained through the reading was mailed to you, and I’m hoping that a thorough study and digesting of it will prove helpful and beneficial to you in every way. I’m sure you realize that only in the application of suggestions given may you expect to obtain results.
The individual who prepares these vibrators, or batteries, (Mr. Brown) is - as you possibly know from data sent you - the first vice-president of our Association. These batteries are a development of the work itself, and have proven most valuable in every case we have suggested them for. While these are only put up by hand, and are rather crude in appearance at times, you will find them most effective if you will follow out the suggestions given for their use.
We will be very glad to hear from you, and are hoping the information will prove helpful to you.
I hope we may have the pleasure of meeting you in person, that you may see what we are doing here.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD

REMARKS
(You will please state in the space below how near, in your opinion, reading fits your condition, as you know it yourself, and if you expect to carry out the suggestions made for the improvement of your health)
I was very well satisfied with the reading. I have not (as yet) been able to grasp the full meaning of everything he has written, but the main points are quite clear. I have what some doctors call arthritis others (high up) food poisoning. It began when my son was born 21 years ago, starting in right knee & going to left tho not so severely, but in the last year, all joints in body & muscles are involved & at times can hardly move, but notice when I cut out food for day or two, I limber up considerably. I have accused my husband of suggesting ill health to me which he has done religiously ever since we were married (25 yrs. ago) & being highly nervous have rebelled and gotten myself in frightful states at times - hysterics & all that. My husband has sort of let up recently as Dr. Lerman (?) told him the condition in my colon was due to excitement and at such times a spasm took place, etc. I have a very good husband in many ways but temperamentally we were not suited I am quite sure, & I have been a sufferer through it.
I shall endeavor to carry out instructions. By manipulation, does Mr. Cayce mean Osteopathic treatment?
I have a Battle Creek Health Builder which I use every day in manipulation & I wonder if that would be sufficient; or would he rather I have a person give it - to me by hand?
In reading on page 4 of letter see that it would be necessary to have a person do the manipulating. I did not quite understand about diet. Please make clearer.
Yours Sincerely, Mrs. [3735]

Mrs. [3735]
My dear Mrs. [3735]
I have your report of some days ago, and I want to thank you for same. I’m sure a close and careful study of the information given will enlighten you more and more as you apply the suggestions made for the improvement of the condition.
For instance, the Radio-Active Appliance suggested in your reading is an appliance made by hand, by one of the officers of our Association, inasmuch as there was not such a thing on the market - and the hospital when it is in operation, by the use of such, will no doubt be able to get something to-gether from this that will be beneficial to all mankind. Just as each individual’s careful report on results obtained through the USE of same will assist us in this direction. This we will ask YOU to do personally. Then, as you apply the rest of it, I’m sure there will come the time when you will want to check up on the condition; that is, ask questions regarding your physical condition, through a subsequent reading, and in this way find out just how your body is responding TO what you have been applying. In the follow-up readings we have often found that corrections have been made of the former understandings of individuals as to the exact treatment. When you order the appliance from Mr. Brown, ask him to give you explicit directions as to its use, carrying the properties of gold, etc. As I understand from your reading it is necessary to have the manipulations given by a good osteopath, one that will stimulate the assimilating and eliminating system in accordance with the changed vibrations being created by the use of the Radio-Active Appliance.
As for the diet, it seems that you know what to eat, but don’t always live up to it.
Our work is progressing very nicely. The hospital is actually under construction, and we hope will be completed and in operation by early Fall.
Let us hear from you. We will want to get another reading for you when you have followed the suggestions for the length of time given.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
R4. 8/2/28 [3735]‘s letter to Morton Blumenthal:
The Association of Nat. Investigators - Mr. Morton H. Blumenthal, Pres.
Dear Sir:
Your letter of July 24th [See printed card soliciting funds, in 4358-4 Reports] just received in which you make a request for money. Seems to me you are in somewhat of a hurry. I never make a donation for a thing of this kind unless I feel pretty sure of what I am sponsoring - and I certainly do not know anything about you or your hospital. Mr. Cayce has given me a diagnosis and I am following his directions - if he proves true - I shall consider helping your Association. Just at the present time I shall admit it is not very promising - but I am giving the treatment a month’s trial.
Yours truly, [3735]
R5. 8/20/28 EC’s letter to [3735]:
My dear Mrs. [3735]
Yours of August 2nd to the Association attention of Mr. Blumenthal, the President, has been handed to me.
I hope you do not misconstrue our enthusiasm and anxiety for the success of the hospital being builded, and our desire for the cooperation of those who may be interested in same. It IS NOT the intention of any of those associated in the work to OVERDO or UNDERDO anything that pertains to same. The campaign for funds has not been handled from this office; consequently those handling same do not know the circumstances of each one they write to, not even as well as I, but simply know that the individual is or has been interested sufficiently to request information.
Now I note what you say in this, that at the present time the suggestion does not seem to be giving promised results. I cannot help but feel Mrs. [3735] from past experience, that the fault must be somewhere in the application of the information. May I not try to be of assistance in the better understanding? I assure you it is only to be of help that we are trying to do this work. It is not for any ultra motive whatever, for fame or for money, or for anything other than to be USED, if possible, for the benefit for those that seek relief physically, mentally, or what not. May we not try to help?
Thanking you for the honest and candid expression, and trusting we may be of service, I am Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
R6. 8/27/28 [3735]‘s letter to EC:
My dear Mr. Cayce:
This request of Mr. Blumenthal came so quickly, I concluded the whole thing was a money making scheme and perhaps I was a bit abrupt when I answered.
I have not been helped and therefore I do not feel like contributing - in fact Mr. Cayce your diagnosis might mean anything - but I was willing to go through with what I started and I have been treated so honestly by Mr. Brown I have no complaint to make.
Trusting your success I am, Sincerely yours, [3735]

Mrs. [3735]
Dear Mrs. [3735]:
Replying to yours of the 26th, you are correct in your surmise that the membership carries with it a reading, and you will find enclosed the appoint-card for same. We make the appointments as we receive the requests. We trust the time set is satisfactory to you. Please give us the address at which you will be at time of the appointment. If there are any special questions you would desire to have asked at that time regarding your condition, we would be glad to have you make note of them and return with the card. We trust we may be of service.
Yes, I appreciate the thought and study you, as a member of the Theosophist Society, have given to at least kindred subjects to the phenomena which we are trying to study and to give to others where we can be of benefit. It is for such that we hope to establish the hospital, and to have our membership made up of those who are desirous of studying the phenomena; for, truly was it said, those even who seek God must believe that He IS. Those who seek an understanding of themselves IN God must believe that they exist, or that they ARE.
Be sure and let us have the card back before the appointed time, that we may know the date is satisfactory. Hoping to be of service, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
