This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 20th day of March, 1944, in accordance with request made by the father - Mr. […] new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., via E. At the home of his Time of Reading parents, Mr. & Mrs. 11:05 to 11:10 A. M. Eastern War Time. […], …, Penna.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, [3801].

3. As we find, while these distresses are in the form of convulsions, they are not true epileptic conditions - according to that ordinarily implied by such terms.

4. At the time of birth we find that there were disturbances as related to the umbilical or navel center. Through cold some congestion was caused in the area close to the lacteal ducts, and this has continued. We find that this will continue to be disturbing until the lesions there are broken up. For with the carrying on of digestion or when there is an excess of carbohydrates given to the body, there will be brought on the contraction causing a spasmodic reaction in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cervical areas, causing frustration.

5. The continuing to give sedatives or palliatives will only weaken the conditions. If sedatives are to be given during the time that these treatments are followed (as we suggest); that is, to allay and to keep down the congestions that arise and that are causing the spasmodic reactions, we would give rather the combination of bromides that may be found in Bromidia. This will be less reacting to the system, or should this prove to be upsetting and to cause vomiting at times, as to cause a strain to the diaphragm and to the stomach areas, we would change to Luminal - which is a hypnotic rather than a narcotic.

6. All of these, to be sure, must be given only under the direction of a physician.

7. Apply hot Castor Oil Packs for at least an hour each day for three days in succession each week. Apply these over the lacteal duct and about the umbilical center. This is the means through which the lesions may be broken up and gradually eliminated.

8. After the third day, each week, give the body at least two tablespoonsful of Olive Oil. Or if the Olive Oil disagrees with the body if given in such a large quantity, it may be given all along - half a teaspoonful two or three times a day, and then after the third day of the Packs give another big dose - about a full teaspoonful.

9. Then leave off for three to four days and repeat.

10. Keep these up each week, until there is easy assimilation and elimination.

11. Each week following the series of the Castor Oil Packs, give the body an osteopathic treatment with special reference to breaking up the lesions in the lacteal duct area.

12. Being consistent with these treatments, we find that we may bring nearer normal conditions for the body by the time it reaches its third cycle of changes - if these are kept consistently, persistently, through these periods. The body is beginning on its second cycle now, and by the time of the third cycle the disturbance should be eliminated.

13. In the diet keep a great deal of those vegetables that grow under the ground. Have more of the tuberous and bulbous than the leafy vegetables for this body.

14. We are through with this reading.

R1. 4/12/44 Father’s letter to EC: “You will pardon my selfishness for not taking time to answer your letter of the 24th of March in which you gave the report of your reading of my son [3801].

“I must say that your works was marvelous, especially your reading concerning the naval center, this is all too true, when [3801] was born he had a rupture in this section and was taped very hard, but we had forgotten all about this until your reading.

“I have had [3801] checked by two osteopaths, concerning the cervical areas and they have both found the condition as you did.

“We are going to follow your instructions concerning the Castor Oil packs and with the information you have given and the cooperation of our local physician Dr. E. G. Hambrosky [E. J. Hamborszky, M.D.], who was amazed with your reading and Dr. Harvey Orth [H. C. Orth, D.O.] Main Street Lewistown Penna. Osteopath, who is also willing to cooperate with your reading, we are hoping for a complete recovery of our son.

“In as much as most of the treatment is connected with Osteopathic we will have Dr. Orth give you a report on him as you want.

“Again I must say you are wonderful with your readings, and I wish you all the happiness in the world as you have given us such as wonderful reading and by checking with the doctors, we feel your reading will have help us in his treatments.”

R2. 4/15/44 EC’s letter to [3801]‘s father: “I am in receipt of yours of the 12th, and thank you very, very much for your report.

“Unless someone has such an experience as yours, it is hard to realize that just such experiences for thousands of individuals have been going on for years and years. Of course I do not claim any credit for myself, for I know of myself I can’t do it at all, but only as the Spirit of Truth may work through me.

“It is most interesting that both of the osteopaths, as well as your regular doctor, have found just what was described in the reading.

“I will be very happy to hear from Dr. Orth, as well as the osteopath you choose to carry on the suggested treatments.

“Thank you very much, and hoping that we may indeed have been the means of a real service in His name, I remain,” Sincerely, Edgar Cayce

R3. 8/11/44 E. J. Hamborszky, M.D. (attending physician to [3801]) letter to EC: “I recommended to Mr. […] …, Pa. to get a reading for his son [3801]. Same was done under case Number …, on the 20th of March, 1944.

“In the report you state that there were disturbances at the umbilical or navel center. Where do you locate these centers on the body? You also mention an excess of carbohydrates. What diet would you recommend? Also would like to be enlightened as to when this third cycle is to start and end? Please if you can give it to us in months or years.

“So far the boy has had quite some improvement. All your recommendations were followed closely. He does not get the headaches as he used to.

“Possibly another reading might give us more information at the present.

“Please answer at your earliest convenience as I am the one that gets all the criticism.”

R4. 8/15/44 EC’s to Dr. Hamborszky: “We have your letter of August 11, and have looked over our file copy of [3801]‘s reading.

“As we interpret it, the Castor Oil Packs are to be placed from the navel, around under the ribs to the liver and down to the caecum, covering this entire area.

“There should be a well-balanced diet, with stress placed on vegetables grown underground. Leave out sweets, pastries, and combinations of starches.

“Various readings have indicated that the third cycle of life begins in the 21st year.

“So long as improvement continues, there would be no need for a check reading. Just follow the suggestions that have been given, and do let us hear from you again.

R5. Notes on EPILEPSY cases from the Edgar Cayce records made by Walter N. Pahnke, M.D. July, 1960 at A.R.E., Virginia Beach, Virginia:

The following notes were taken on cases as read and are merely the opinion of the abstractor at the time he read the case plus the correspondence. The main value of these notes is that they give some indication of what the exact diagnosis in each case may or may not be.

Case [3801]. Given in 1944. 16 year old male. This case was classified in group 2. There was a history of one convulsion at the age of 1 year, and one additional convulsion at the age of 14. The readings say that this was not a true epileptic condition but only a form of convulsions. There were no follow-up reports.

B1. 2/25/44 Father’s letter to EC: “I have yours of the 21st and the date will be OK and we want to cooperate with you to the fullest extent, as we are very desirous of helping our son in his physical handicap.

“[3801] will be in school at the time of the reading, the school being in the hamlet of …

“To inform you what we think is the matter and possibly you can help us with some of the information you have on hand in cases of this kind. When [3801] was a child of less than a year he had Whooping Cough and had convulsions, this seemed to follow him for some time and then left, but about two years ago he again has had a convulsion, not so pronounced but seeming confused in his speech, not a convulsion that would ‘put him out’ but a confusion. We have been doctoring for him and it seems the specialist we are taking him to feels it is a slight touch of epilepsy. We have been living on the hopes as he passes through the adolescence age he would become alright. We do feel he is better and the confusions are further apart, but we realize that the medicine he is taking is a sedative.

“If perchance you have any information and I believe that I read you had on what you have done for epileptics, I would appreciate you sending it to us, as we want to do what we can for him. As to the questions we would like asked, I don’t know of any we are interested in other than what you can possibly find out so that we can help him. As I understood from your reading you would be possible to help us find a remedy if there was one.

“Any other information you may want so as to effect a clear reading of his case I will be glad to answer, possibly with your experiences you may be able to furnish us a list of questions that you would think suitable and helping in your case.

“Please if you have any information on how you have helped others in this kind of sickness we would appreciate having it even before the reading. What we are mainly interested in is what effect his adolescence age has on his health, whether or not we can look for something different, whether or not the medicine he is taking is helping to cause the confusions to be further apart or whether or not he is becoming more advanced in age that the matter is clearing itself.

“Please tell us how you have helped others, in cases similar to his. I believe I have given you as much of his background as is possible for me to give.

“He is taking about 6 grains of Deliantim [Dilantin?] per day at the present time. I would like to have as much information as possible before making out next trip to the Specialist, the end of next week.

“Not to quote you but possibly you can give us some information, that will enable me to talk with the Doctor from a different point of view, not to contrary him but possible to help him.

“I may add that I do feel that possibly some of the trouble comes from bowels, as if one follows him to the bath room following one of the confusions, there is a very bad odor. I would add however that we are very careful in seeing that his bowels are open.

“To us this matter is very serious and I have opened up his case as far as I possibly can so that you can help us.

“Thanking you in advance for any consideration you may be able to give us and I believe from your letters that you desirous of helping everybody you can.”
