This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of March, 1944, in accordance with request made by the mother - […], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. (Notes read to and transcribed by Jeanette Fitch.)]
In the office Time of Reading of … Co., 10:45 to 10:55 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, S.C. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3805].
-
As we find, there are disturbing conditions which prevent the better physical functioning of the body. These conditions are somewhat improved in the present. The characters of administrations for the control of the suggestive forces, or mental and spiritual attributes of the body, are well. These we would continue.
-
There are in the physical or pathological conditions, however the sources of the troubles. In the cerebrospinal system, through the lumbar and the lower dorsal area, there have been those hindrances in times back - by lack of activity of the lymph, blood and nerve supply - that have caused plethoric conditions in colon, thus engorging same. The fecal forces have remained so long as to cause the activities to become nil, or to cause the lack of control with the removal of the disturbing conditions.
-
These, then, as we find, should be the characters of administrations in the present, combined regularly with the suggestive and spiritual directions for the body in its control of its activities among peoples, among associates, as well as for physical conditions:
-
We would continue the osteopathic treatments. These should be taken regularly, two each week, for at least sixteen treatments; with special reference to the lumbar-sacral and throughout the dorsal areas or those centers that control not only the activities of the colon in the caecum and transverse area but the nerves and muscles that control the sphincter centers in the lower portion of the descending colon.
-
Occasionally cleanse the colon so that there may be, with the change of the circulation of nerve and blood supply, a replenishing and rebuilding of the nerve and muscular forces controlling the activities of the colon, the sphincter muscles of the anus and through the lower portion of colon.
-
When the colonic irrigations are given, the first solution injected should contain a heaping teaspoonful of table salt and a heaping teaspoonful of baking soda to the gallon of water body temperature.
-
In the last rinse water used, do put at least a tablespoonful of Glyco-Thymoline to each gallon of water body temperature.
-
Do these, and then let the body live normally in its associations and activities, and we will build a normal reaction through the body-forces.
-
As to the frequency of the colonic irrigations, these should be given whenever there is a feeling of fullness in colon or a lack of proper nutrition; or once every two weeks or twice a month.
-
In the first series of osteopathic treatments, keep these twice each week, regularly for at least sixteen treatments. Leave off then for a period of three weeks to a month and then have another series.
-
Thus we will make better conditions for the body.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/4/44 Letter from [3805]‘s mother to EC: “This is a report on your reading of March 24, 1944 on [3805]. His condition is the same as far as we can tell, but I believe that it is improving, and I hope will be entirely cured if we keep up the treatment long enough. I was very glad that the condition was of physical origin. The osteopath who is treating him is Dr. E. W. Pratt, 255 King St. He was most cooperative, and was one of the 7 persons that I had asked to hold the thought for [3805] during the reading.
“With many thanks and looking forward to my reading in December.”
R2. 7/8/44 Letter from EC to mother: “Thank you very much for your ltr. of July 4th. I appreciate your writing us and giving us a report and I believe that if you will follow through with the suggestions made you will gradually see some help.
“We thank you very much for the address of Dr. E. W. Pratt, and we will appreciate it if you will let us hear from you and possibly after a few months it will be well to have a check-up on just what progress is being made.”
R3. 11/17/44 Mother’s letter requesting a Physical Reading for herself: “[3805]‘s condition has improved steadily, and his bowels function normally, but he has not taken over this responsibility entirely himself. I would like guidance on this.”

Background
Background
B1. 7/3/43 Letter from mother: “He has suffered for many years from an enlarged colon, with other possible complications, which cause him to behave as if he had no control over his bowel movements. When he was 9 years old his father & I discovered his condition, but doctors assured us he would outgrow it. This has not been true and now, in addition, he has developed what might be termed a ‘shame complex’ if there be such a thing. In other words he is ashamed of his habit and has withdrawn within himself. Last year I took him to Johns Hopkins where they took about 7 lbs. of fecal matter from his colon which had become impacted there. Now he is at home where a local doctor is doing the same thing for him. I cannot and will not believe that there is not some basic cause for this trouble which, once discovered, cannot be removed.”
B2. 8/5/43 Letter from mother of [3805] to EC: “I do wish you to keep March 24th for me. It is very disappointing that it will take such a long time, as I consider the condition serious in the life of a boy of 15. A major operation has been suggested but we are going to avoid it if possible on account of the shock, as he is already suffering from a handicap which is disturbing enough.
“I would appreciate it exceedingly if the reading could be given sooner. In the meantime I shall thank God for your gift.”
B3. 3/8/44 Letter from [3805]‘s mother to EC: “I recently wrote to you concerning the rdg. for my son scheduled for the morning of March 24, and asking for advice on the type of reading, also for two subsequent dates for rdgs. I trust that I will get an answer soon.
“I have 7 persons prepared to pray and meditate during the hour, so as to aid you as much as possible.”
