This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of June, 1927, in accordance with request made by self, through his wife, via Mrs. C. W. Dillman.
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 4:15 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3819].
-
Now, for the corrections of those physical conditions that we find give distress in the physical forces of the body, first let us understand something of that that produces these disturbances in the physical make-up of the body.
-
IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, we find this lacking in those elements that give strength and stability to the physical conditions; lack of those constituents of the blood, and in this there then is naturally created - from the existent condition - the lack of ability to find the perfect equilibrium in the functioning of the body; for each organism in the body - while working as a unit - requires those definite elements to be able to propagate, as it were, those necessary forces to rebuild itself, and thus keep the body in the physical sense normally well.
-
These conditions are seen in the manner in which the body easily tires. Easily the digestion is thrown out of balance. Easily the body finds that it becomes shaky, wavy, as it were - impossible to fully concentrate. At times easily irritated, and then we have the weakness following same.
-
This condition is produced then, we find, by many varying forces in the body.
-
Once there were those bacilli that destroyed the red blood cells in the system’s attempting to adjust itself to these conditions, and medicinal properties being given to overcome conditions, organic forces became involved - and while the body seemingly recuperated somewhat from these conditions; yet it left the general depletion throughout. All portions of system becoming involved, and a nerve break-down then resulting.
-
IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, this we find - through the lack of stability in the system - is relaxed in portions, and in others we find too much tautness. Hence the unequalized condition as exists between the liver and the kidneys in their activity, because we produce - through the nerve condition, and that existent in blood supply - that as may be called a cold hepatic circulation, and with such there comes that cold clamminess that at times is disturbing to the sleep, and restlessness - bringing nerve exhaustion and taxation to the tissue in the digestive system, and brain activity.
-
IN THE FUNCTIONING ORGANS, these are rather of the functional nature, than of the organic origin, produced by this same taxing of nerve and blood supply.
-
Then, to rebuild the system, and bring back to the near normal conditions, we would add those vibrations in the system that will bring about an equalization of the nerve system, of the blood supply, and through these bring to the system that necessary for the restoration of a normal equilibrium, producing a perfect metabolism in the system. The katabolism will - of natural conditions - bring better coordination in the body.
-
We would rest in as much open air as is possible, with plenty of sunshine, and plenty of shade; with sea and salt baths, and air, and the sands of same - being careful of the diet, that there is added as much of the iodine as is possible for system to assimilate, and iron for the blood.
-
Wearing that of the Double X Radium Appliance across the solar plexus.
-
As for medicinal properties - after at least ten days to two weeks spent in such surroundings - we would take these properties, so that the blood - as is being revived - may be assisted to eliminate dross and ashes, as it were - or ash - from the system. As these:
-
Prepare first a carrier for the properties in this manner:
-
Take six (6) ounces Wild Cherry Bark. Add to sixteen (16) ounces of distilled water. Reduce by simmering to eight (8) ounces. Then add four (4) ounces of sugar, first dissolved in two (2) ounces of water - reducing again to original eight (8) ounces. Then add, in this manner and proportion:
Syrup of Sarsaparilla Compound…1/2 ounce, Elixir Calisaya…1/2 ounce, Tincture of Stillingia…1/4 ounce, Oil of Sassafras…20 minims, Bromide of Potassium 10% solution…30 minims, Muriated Iron in solution…5 minims, Tincture of Capsici…2 minims.
Shake solution together each time before the dose is taken, which would be half a teaspoonful in water (or plain) four (4) times each day, before meals and before retiring.
-
Keep the body in the open as much as possible.
-
Wear the pad at all times (during the day), save when taking sand baths, or rubs, for stimulation of exterior circulation.
-
Do that.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 6/7/27 EC’s letter:
My dear Mrs. […]
We enclose you, herewith, the copy of the reading as was gotten at the time appointed. You will know, of course, whether the symptoms coincide with the condition or not, but I feel very sure that if you will follow out the suggestions here given, you will gain relief. The pad as referred to, or Radium Appliance - we enclose you an envelope addressed to the people from whom you may obtain this. The prescription as is outlined, I believe you will be able to obtain from the Sellers Drug Company, or the Greene Drug Company, there in Birmingham. I would follow the suggestions very closely that are made for the improvement of Mr. [3819].
We shall appreciate if if you will let us hear from you.
Hoping to have been of service, I am
Sincerely,

R3. 6/13/27 EC’s letter:
Dear Mrs. […]
Replying to your wire of the 11th, I would hardly know how to advise you - from the information given in wire; as I understood from the reading, however, the sea baths or sand baths should be taken in a locality along the Virginia or North Carolina coast. Possibly you would say that is farfetched from the information given, but it has been said by so many - who have made a special study of the sands of these coasts, that they carry especially curative powers for depleted physical conditions; yet I feel from your wire that possibly Mr. [3819] would not be able to undertake such a trip just at present. I believe, then, with the rest in the country, and with the carrying out of all the other suggestions given, that within two or three weeks Mr. [3819] will be much improved, and by that time I will be able and in a position where I can give you another reading - then we can ask that question direct.
Assuring you of our desire to be of help and assistance if possible, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
If you could know how your reading fits so accurately in so many things that our doctors have not recognized in their treatment of Mr. [3819] then you would know how sincerely I come to you for further advice.
The bowel condition referred to in my wire to you is a very serious diarrhea with much blood & mucus, a condition that has perhaps been aggravated by two courses of emetics and one of stovasal. It was much improved when we left Birmingham for the country here, but the trip caused a relapse. He is now able to get in the sunshine and air, lies outside on a cot all the day when it has not been raining, since your reading came.
I wired for the Double X Radium Appliance - and am writing Green Drug Co. to have the prescription filled.
I think Mrs. Dillman told me that you would be prepared to take care of patients at Virginia Beach this summer. Could you take Mr. [3819], and the costs?
We hope that he will be able to make the trip later - as you suggest. I should be very happy to have you able to give him another reading before taking further steps.
Know, Mr. Cayce, that we sincerely believe you are helping us, and we thank you.
Very sincerely, Mrs. […]
R5. 7/11/27 (Monday) EC’s letter:
Mrs. […] Myrtle Hill Farm, Kelso, Tennessee My dear Mrs. […]
Your letter of the 16th came while I was away on a very much needed vacation, and it was impossible for us - under the circumstances - to get a check reading, as of course our secretary was taking a much needed vacation also - but we are back on the job now, and I am in hopes that you have been able to have the medicinal properties prepared, also that you have received the pad. If so, I am sure you have been getting some results from the use of these. By this time you may have many questions that you want to have asked. We are setting a date for the reading - Tuesday morning the 19th. Please make a list of questions, if you desire the reading to be made at this time.
I will write you more in detail later regarding the institution, as I believe now that we will build rather than trying to remodel an old place.
Thanking you for your letter, and sincerely trusting to be of service, I am
Yours very truly, Edgar Cayce EC:GD

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I regret very much not getting your letter in time for the reading. The letter reached us, away out on the mountain at dusk of July 19.
We did not hear from you. Mr. [3819] was, if not losing, certainly not gaining, so fearing to take the long trip to the coast and no definite place to go, we left Kelso, where Mr. [3819] was very unhappy, and took this house out on the quiet, restful mountain. He is much improved, though we have been here less than a week.
The Double X Radium pad, he wears constantly. The medicine I had filled at Green’s B’ham, but on account of the bowel condition we were waiting to hear from you further before using it.
We are very anxious for another reading, at your earliest convenience. Questions we wish asked particularly what causes & how to remedy the bowel condition that now exists.
Nerves, though greatly improved, how treat. How build the blood and not harm the bowels!
Mr. Cayce, you have read his condition so much more accurately than the doctors have been able to see it. We are keenly anxious for your advice, and shall follow as nearly as possible.
Very sincerely, Mrs. […] Huntsville, Ala Gen. Del.

R7. 8/2/27 EC’s letter:
Mrs. […] General Delivery, Huntsville, Alabama
Dear Mrs. […]
I am sorry indeed to know that our letter was so long delayed, and that we have been so long in writing you at this time - but so many changes have been taking place that we find it has been impossible to keep up with our appointments, but we hope now we will be better able to take care of conditions as they arise. Just as soon as you receive this, if you desire the reading to be made at once, you may wire me or write me a special delivery letter, and you will know from the time it takes for this letter to reach you, how long it will take your letter to reach me - and the reading will be taken on the day or the day following the receipt of your letter or wire. If there are any special questions or conditions other than you mention in your letter of July 20th, please make note of them, that we may get this clarified just as much as possible.
Hoping that Mr. [3819] is still on the improve, and with kindest personal regards to you both, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
R8. 8/5/27 Mrs. […]‘s letter:
HOTEL TWICKENHAM AMERICAN PLAN Quincy B. Love. Managing Director Huntsville, Ala.
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr.Cayce:
Since Mr. & Mrs. Dillman and some other friends are to spend this weekend with us, I am writing instead of wiring you. Perhaps it makes no difference, I do not know. Anyway after Mon. A.M., we relax into quiet again.
You know we are out on Monte Sano - a mountain about 4 1/2 miles from Huntsville. It is very quiet and restful there.
Wednesday morning and Saturday morning we will come to town to market, the rest of the week we will be there. Anxious to get the reading since Mr. [3819] wishes to return to B’ham.
Questions I am anxious about. Should he take the medicine you advised. What can we do for the bowel condition? Should he go to Mayo Bros. for examination. Is it advisable for him to return to work early in September? Should he have Dr. Percy Woodall treat him for hemorrhoids? Blood? Why the brown color sometimes?
Now Mr. Cayce, YOU will know which questions to ask. I have felt all along that Mayo’s is the best place we have, but of course if it is not necessary to go there, we should not incur that expense.
I am sure the pad must be helping him - his nerves are much improved and perhaps his blood some. Though I am sure he is far from well.
Trusting that we may hear from you at your earliest convenience, I am,
Very sincerely, Mrs. […] Huntsville, Ala. Gen. Del.
