This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 20th day of January, 1928, in accordance with request made by self through Mrs. [4961].

Time of Reading 3:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here.

3. Now, we find in the general physical forces there is little to build upon, and the body continues to use up the vitality without restoring sufficient from the assimilation to replenish the physical forces, and gradually there has grown, then, within same, the lack of the incentive from various portions of the organism to function sufficient to recharge or resuscitate even the cells that are necessary to replenish those used in functioning in the system. This then produces a general debilitation. This is of existent condition, and this is that which must be met first before we would begin to add to the rebuilding within the system sufficient that the vitality will store up energies within the body to replenish same.

4. We would then prepare first for the body as this:

To one-half [1/2] gallon of distilled water we would add:

Compound Syrup of Sarsaparilla…1/2 ounce, Tincture Wild Cherry Bark…1 ounce, Tincture of Stillingia…1/2 ounce, Essence of Yellow Dock Root…1/4 ounce, Essence of Black Snake Root…1/4 ounce, Oil of Sassafras…20 minims, Elixir of Calisaya…1/2 ounce, Essence Celerina…1/2 ounce.

5. Then we would reduce this by slow boiling. Keep the cover over this while boiling, else - with evaporation, through the heated alcohol in which many of these are dissolved - there would be lost much of the strength of the properties. When reduced to half the quantity, add - after cooled somewhat - one-half [1/2] ounce alcohol with one [1] dram Balsam of Tolu cut in it. Shake solution together before dose is taken. Take half teaspoonful every three hours.

6. By the time that half of this is taken the body may apply that of the Radium Appliance - this preferably in the Single X - across the back at the solar plexus. When lying down lie with this across the diaphragm, or across the chest, but recharge same every day in the sun or strong light for fifteen minutes - otherwise keep same applied all the time.

7. When the full quantity has been taken we would give the further suggestions.

8. Be careful of the diet. Give meat juices, especially that of beef without any flesh - prepare by the meat (dry) being placed in sealed jar inside of a pan of water, boil until all the juice is extracted, season to taste and give teaspoonful to tablespoonful three or four times each day. Give Wyeth’s Iron and Wine as a stimulant for the system - and the gruels and fruits (without apples) will agree and assimilate for the body. Do that. When this has been carried that far, we would then give further suggestions for the body.

9. We are through for the present.

R1. 1/21/28 EC’s letter to Mrs. [4961]: ”…We sent you under separate cover the Reading for Mr. [3829]. Apparently, it is necessary to do something first that we may have something to build on. I certainly hope you will insist on his carrying out the suggestions given, and that in the next few weeks you will arrange that we may follow this up, to see if we can’t be of help - for we’d like to be of assistance if it is possible.

“I may possibly be in Selma the early part of February and hope that I may see you at that time.

“For your convenience I enclose an envelope addressed to the people whom you may obtain the Radium Appliance from that is suggested in the Reading. These have proven very effective and beneficial where they have been suggested…”

R2. 1/30/28 Mrs. [4961]‘s letter to EC: ”…I should have written you before now, but I am so busy all of my time. We received the Reading for Mr. [3829] and I am more thoroughly convinced that this gift you have is of God and is most wonderful. It just suited his case exactly, and it would do you good to see how grateful he is to you and I both. He wants most surely to see you when you come to Selma. I got his prescription filled and he is taking it by directions day and night. I have written for the price of the Radium Appliance so if it is possible I want to get it for him. Of course, he has been down since the 7th of last June. Naturally he is completely without funds. Possibly you wonder what he is to me; nothing at all, only a man with a family who needs help, and he has clung so faithfully to the little spark of life he has in him, until it makes one all the more anxious to help him. I went by this morning to see him and he was sitting up just feeling so much better. He has been walking around in the house. I am afraid he is going to overdo his strength and eat too much, but I charged him carefully to take time, but he is so overjoyed at being able to eat and it not hurt him. Now, Mr. Cayce, he is not able to pay you for this Reading now, and as you know, I am not rich, but I can and am glad to send you 5.00 at a time until I have paid it. I judge that the price is 20.00 from some of the literature you sent. I wish it was so I could send it all at once.

R3. 1/30/28 Mrs. [4961]‘s reply to Association of National Investigators Questionnaire re [3829]:

REMARKS: You will please state in the space below how near, in your opinion, Reading fits your condition, as you know it yourself, and if you expect to carry out the suggestions made for the improvement of your health.

[4961]‘s reply re [3829]: “Just exactly as we see it, and are following directions precisely, with visible results already.”

B1. 1/13/28 Mrs. [4961]‘s letter: ”…I am writing this to you and asking you to give us a Reading for a man here, whom I chanced to meet before Christmas. He [3829] has been sick for 7 months. It seems that the M.D.’s can’t do him any good and unless something is done very quickly he can’t live…so just the other day I was telling him how I came to be treated by the Chiropractor doctors, that it was through the Reading you gave me, and how indebted I feel to you for my very life…and he was too enthused and asked me to write to you and ask you to give him the Reading just as soon as you possibly could…you can just send the Reading to me, as I go by to see him every morning. He is waiting so anxiously to hear…”
