This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 322 Grafton Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, this 1st day of July, 1924, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [3865].

1. EC: Now, we find there are abnormal conditions with this body. We find there are some conditions in the abnormal way that have been of a long standing, until the system has adjusted itself to some of the conditions, yet they have not as yet become normal forces. We find other conditions that keep, or are a general or a constitutional condition in the system, produced by conditions arising of a long standing and of the condition as is developed in the body day by day.

2. Now, the conditions to be met, or to be corrected, have to do especially with the eliminations and assimilation, and with the organs as involved through this inability of this condition to be brought to normal forces in the body.

3. Now, these are conditions as we find them in this body, [3865], we are speaking of. First:

IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, we find the body not anaemic, not wholly depending or being a blood condition, yet the blood is more or less involved in the conditions as manifested in the system from time to time. Not so much that the conditions are produced through the blood supply but that the blood supply, with the existing condition, becomes involved in its functioning, thereby causing at times distress to portions of the system by the lack of assimilated forces being given in the system to function normal. Others by the carrying in the system of those properties that in the functioning organs bring distress to those organs. Such conditions we find affecting the system especially in the digestive tract.

5. We have had in times back conditions that were much more aggravated and aggravating to the system than at the present time. In this we see the blood supply becomes involved in the distribution of forces or eliminating forces in distribution of the rebuilding forces in body. Hence conditions that arise in the cuticle, those in the throat, the larynx, the bronchials at times, the condition in the outer portions of the body, the system attempting to eliminate and to find the equalization, affecting then the blood supply at such times. At others we find the system being overcharged with these and it affecting the organs direct.

6. IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, we find there are lesions that have and do produce much of these conditions. In the second lumbar, coming from the pelvis condition and the overtaxing of nerve forces that have been changed in the system from times back to the present condition, then again at the solar plexus center and again at the secondary cardiac center, which becomes involved in the condition as shown in the lungs itself proper.

7. In the nerve forces then, the cerebrospinal directly, the sympathetic indirectly, making all reflexes in the system to the detriment of the body, or the body has become one under the stress and strain of the nerve system, until the mental with the physical forces become to portions the direct.

8. IN THE FUNCTIONING OF THE ORGANS THEMSELVES, we find all under the stress and strain of these forces, though we find the body at times feels very good. At others never just clear of pain.

9. In the sensory system some specific conditions, though have not to do with the general or the constitutional condition to be met.

10. Lungs, the effect of the condition as shown through the secondary cardiac plexus forces and a nerve reaction as vibrates in these.

11. Digestive tract much under the influence of those conditions as shown in the hypogastric, pneumogastric, centers, especially when the hypogastric becomes involved, as the kidneys and the bladder show the effect as how these, with the digestive forces, lack the proper elimination, and the system attempting to adjust and bring the normal forces to the body functions improperly through all the reflexes of the hypogastric center, both in nerve and blood supply, producing a cold hepatic circulation. The liver becomes clogged, as it were, with the secretions as should be thrown off in the system. All portions of the intestinal tract become then involved, with the tendency then to the system to prevent the system from eliminating in its proper channels.

12. R E L I E F - Then, to bring the normal forces to this body will take those of specific nature and of perseverance, and of those elements as have to do with the exercising of the mental forces in the body to coordinate with the physical of the body to bring the equalization of all elemental forces in the system, taking those properties that will bring the correct incentives for the condition existing, and building through the mental forces of the body that inherent healing that must ever be found in the individual, exercising the I AM in the physical forces of the body.

13. Taking then this: This would be one dose. We would take these in capsules form, one each day for at least five to six days.

Podophyllin…1/2 grain, Cascara Sagrada…1/2 grain, Leptandrin…1 grain, Licorice Compound…1/2 grain.

14. Mix these properties well together, put in capsules and take the quantity as given for each dose for five days.

15. Rest from this and keep the body then cleansed well with water internally and externally.

16. After the fifth day of taking plenty of water, begin with the adjustments (mechanically) necessary to bring the normal functioning of the organs and system, as has been outlined, in the region of the lumbar and dorsal, especially.

17. With this then begin the study of those forces that are found in Unity.

18. When the system has been prepared we may find the responding vibration in this element to bring the normal forces of the physical to this body, [3865].

19. (Q) How should these adjustments be made? (A) Either by osteopathic or chiropractic forces. Be made every other day for at least eight treatments, but not until after the medicinal properties and the correction through plain water, in and out of the system, has been taken.

Do this, and we will bring the normal conditions for this body.

Your card was received in time, and as you will see the reading was taken this morning. You will find enclosed a copy of same. I’m very sorry that there has been so much delay regarding this but I’m very much in hopes that you will find a great deal of relief by following out the suggestions as given here.

Should it be possible that there is any portion of it that you do not understand, I shall be very glad to undertake to tell you my interpretation of same.

I shall be very glad to hear from you from time to time, and if it is necessary that we have other readings to get the results you desire, I will try and take them for you, if you will only let me know.

It is my desire, first and foremost, to be of assistance to people if it is possible, and the many letters that we have from people in many parts of the country signify there are hundreds that are gaining the desired results by following out the suggestions as given in these readings.

Dear Sir:-

Your letter together with the reading of myself was received some few days ago.

Having visitors in my home has prevented me from writing you sooner.

Mr. Cayce I find the reading quite hard for me to understand. Therefore I’m writing to ask you, can you please tell me the cause of my mind or mental power to not act clearly.

I find in writing, often I spell a word wrongly or sometimes I will write a different word to that which I mean to write, often using more or omitting letters belonging in a word? This is very much annoying to me, causing me to use pencil in writing, on account of the pencil writing being easily to erase.

Would be so glad if you can explain this to me.

Is my mental powers deranged? At times this absence of mind, or thoughts seems to affect me more than at others. I’m very easily excited, & when excited, its hard for me to speak words which I mean to speak. During other moments my head feels peculiar, and I feel foolish. Certainly would be glad for you to explain this to me.

Now, in the first paragraph of your reading, you found abnormal conditions with my body. What are these conditions? Day by day?

Will you please tell me how may I exercise the I AM.

I want you to be plain with me, and tell me if I am mentally affected?

Had to order the formula filled, from Birmingham and have not started on it yet, but will just as soon as it can be sent to me.

Then, I’m going to do just as the reading advises, and if I obtain a relief, I will praise your name forever.

I have yours of the 8th, and I will try and give you an explanation, as I understand the reading. The condition that you mentioned which you feel is perhaps a mental defect, or hallucination, is caused and produced by an overtaxed mind on many different subjects and by listening at advice of someone else that does not understand your physical condition at all. You, personally, feel that this is true, yet you have listened so long and tried to do as others would have you do until it has created in your nervous system that intangible something which forces your mind to react only when it has been given something to react upon from another source than your individual self. This is what is meant by the exercising of the I AM in the individual self. I do not know a better way for you to do this than the study of the literature as is published by Unity. You can get this literature by addressing Unity, Unity Building, Kansas City, Mo. or perhaps there may be some people, in fact I believe there is, a Unity Society in Birmingham, who may be able to furnish this to you, or better still, to my mind, is to take your own Bible and beginning with about the tenth chapter of St. John almost memorize the rest of that gospel, especially the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th chapters.

I am glad that you have had the prescription filled, for with my experience with this, this is as necessary for your individual physical being as the rest of the study, for there are physical conditions, as described, that must also be corrected, also the physical will not be able to keep the hold on self that it should.

Now, I feel sure, Mrs. [3865] that you will gain all the assistance necessary to make you perfectly normal in every way, provided you are willing to pay in mental and physical desire the price for same.

Dear Sir:-

Your letter of the 10th received this A.M. which I read with care.

I have not yet begun on the capsules which I had filled in Birmingham as they were not sent out to me until today.

Therefore I’m writing you for instructions before starting on them.

Now, when the formula returned to me prepared I found there to be 20 capsules. Now what I want to know is this, should there have been 20 capsules made of this formula? as your reading plainly says “This is one dose” - one each day for five or six days.”

You see, I thought the formula was intended to be equal divided into five or six doses, but as there were 20 capsules it makes me feel that I should ask your advice on taking them, as your reading said, take the quantity as given for each dose for five or six days.

Should I have bought the ingredients and prepared them myself, I surely would have equally divided it into said doses & would have taken the whole formula in five or six doses.

Now I do feel bad to keep annoying you, but I do want to carry out your instructions precisely & correctly. So I will wait to begin on the capsules until I hear from you.

I have great hopes of your medicine doing me good - as I know my liver is comparatively dead, and have been unable to have it made active by chiropractic adjustments.

Nevertheless, I’m going to follow your instructions correctly, as I believe in your treatments.

I do believe should my liver act normal then, my mental forces would be stronger.

Please let me hear from you at once as I want to start on my treatment as early as possible, as I am suffering so very much with my back & under my shoulders feels like I’ve been beat sore, & I know its caused from an inactive liver.

Mr. Cayce, I feel like I’m getting more from you than I’ll ever be able to pay you, but if I’m benefitted by you, I’ll assure you I will never stop with the small first payment.

Dear Mrs. [3865]

Yours of the 12th just received. In reply will say, as I understand from the instructions as given, the quantity as designated was to be that quantity in each capsule, and you were to take five or six of them, or were to take them for five or six days. I do not remember the quantity at present. I’m very sure the druggist must have made plenty of these, that he might have the proportion or mixture proportioned correctly. You should then take this as the directions are given, and if necessary to take them later he will have them on hand. I feel sure from your letter that you desire to follow the instructions as carefully as possible. I also feel that you will get the results when you have carried out the instructions. However, I want to assure you that it is quite true that I did not ever receive any remittance. I’m sure that you sent same but I, nor anyone in my office or employ, received same. I think I appreciate your position but will also appreciate any contribution you may be able to contribute from time to time. I assure you I do not feel annoyed at your asking questions relative to the treatment and I am glad to try to explain the best I can. However, I haven’t your reading before me at the present time, so as given you my interpretation of same from your letter and past experiences. I believe, however, this is correct.

Dear Sir,

Yours of inquiry has been read, and I have thought so often since taking your reading, that I should write you but honest if I have gained any relief, it is a very little. I certainly did carry out your instructions to the letter, and did my best to gain relief.

Most assuredly I do have faith in your work, but sometimes I doubt if I do possess enough faith in the Divine power. Perhaps this is my trouble. I do know that my liver is comparatively dead, and I feel like that my whole body is poisoned by my liver, as when I take a purgative, I will feel better for a few days, and then I began to ache, my back & shoulders feels like they have been beat. Then when I take a purgative this soreness disappears for a few days again.

All last week I was so sore could hardly get out of bed every morning, I decided to take two of your capsules one night instead of one, which I did, and two seemed to purge me no more than just one. However I feel better.

My intestines seems to be full of mucus and when it accumulates then I’m in pain until I take sufficient purgative to remove it. When its removed or passes, then my mental and physical forces feel better.

Mr. Cayce, I do feel badly that I haven’t sent you a payment, but let me tell you, we (Baptist) lost our church by fire almost two years ago, and we are trying to rebuild, and every cent I can get I feel like I must put it in our W. M. N. Society as each member are trying their best to help all they can. I am sending you a clipping from our paper, of a cake which I baked for the purpose of our church. Sometimes I feel that I will have to give up my work so that I can pay you, but as there are so few of our little bank who are capable of working, I feel like I can’t turn it loose.

Don’t want you to think that I’m a fraud, for I’m as true as steel. Mr. [4527], my dear neighbor who you gave a reading can tell you just how honest & hard working I have been, tho I’m almost broken down by having to rear my sisters two children, bearing the troubles of a husband who has spent a fortune on lewd women & drink. This is the cause of my sad fate, so please don’t think I’m one of the many who wants something for nothing.

Mr. Cayce, my letter is very plain, but its true. God alone knows just what I’ve endured mentally & physically, would pay you any price if I had it, to relieve me.

Those whom never had such to bear can’t understand the sad sad fate.

I have yours of the 28th, and I thank you very much for your letter and also want to thank you for how fully and how complete you cover the situation from every standpoint. I want to assure you, Mrs. [3865], I believe I know how to appreciate almost every condition that you describe. Although I’m not a wife and Mother, I am a son who has experienced many of the conditions and trials through which you have passed. I also know how to appreciate your interest in the Church work and service, for I have myself been engaged in just such work, and realize the dependence that the success of the work places in those who are willing to lend of themselves to the Lord’s work. I have also tried to consider all of these things from every standpoint, and have believed that lending myself, in the way that I do in trying to assist people to gain their physical and mental equilibrium, that I am also trying to be the Lord’s worker and deserve some consideration at times from those whom I try to assist.

I note what you say regarding your condition, and I’m going to ask that you make at least one more appointment, and am enclosing you, herewith, a card for same, which you will please sign and return at once, if this day and hour is satisfactory with you, for I feel that if I can possibly be of help to one who has been through the trials that you have, and is still trying to give of their best selves in the service of the Master’s work, I will not only be rendering a service to you but will be rendering a service to that work that you are devoting so much of your time and earnest efforts toward.

Dear Sir

Your letter together with card dated the 4th just received, and as I read your words of sympathy, my heart was deeply touched, and every word sank deeply within me.

I am returning the card herewith, but I feel like I’m getting more than I’m really due. Tho as I feel that you are trying to help me from a christian standpoint I will accept it, and if I’m never able to repay you, I’m assured of the fact that you will receive your reward by a Higher name than mine.

Mr. Cayce, you can’t know just how it pained my heart to open up & write you my conditions.

Really I couldn’t help but rebuke myself for doing so, after mailing the letter to you, but I have found that an HONEST confession is good for the soul, for I most assuredly derived pleasure from your letter.

I am not a mother, tho I reared two of my sister’s little girls from infancy, and in so doing I feel that I have reared a greater monument to my name than had they been my own. Through the long years of struggle, in working & caring for them, I can say neither of them never disobeyed me, or caused me one moments of trouble. Both are married now but still they love me I believe even better than they could have loved their own mother.

Only pain of separation hurts me now, as they both live too far for me to visit them as I would like.

And now the only hope I care to live is to help them in rearing heir little ones, for my husband is so UNTRUE to me. Tho he knows man never had a truer wife than he, still he is so untrue to me. I know this to be true, for I followed him & saw with my own eyes, & it has almost wrecked my life. Though I am trying to pull on until God in his all wise providence ends it all.

In going through some of my letters this morning, I find a letter from you written about September the 6th, and there was an appointment for a reading for you on September 11th, which was not made, owing to the fact that at the time I was quite unwell myself, and it was several weeks before I was able to resume the work. I’m sorry to say your letter was just neglected and overlooked.

I’d like to hear from you, to know how you’re getting along, and if we can be of any service, would be very glad to try and do so. We would have to make the date sometime after the 21st of January.

Dear Sir,

Your letter of Jan 2nd has been received. In reply will say that I had decided perhaps the letter written you in Sept. was not answered on account of payment not accompanying the letter. Now Mr. Cayce I am honest in saying that sometimes I feel like your reading did me good, tho I do suffer yet. Tho as I am not financially able to pay for a treatment, I feel like it is unjust to ask another reading of you. Therefore I shall always think of you kindly, and will never fail to tell others of your readings.

As I told you once here to fore, that we are trying to rebuild our burned church, and all my spare money goes to this building.

I had to miss our week of prayer recently just on account of not having change to go my part.

Mr. Cayce, to be honest with you, I believe the life which my husband leads is the cause of all my suffering. Of course it upsets my nerves, and causes me to feel unhappy which this leads to physical disturbance.

Was very glad to receive your letter and hope you are able to resume your work for the good of others, and if I can ever see where I can pay you for another reading will write you.

My dear Mrs. [3865]

Yours of the 7th came while I was on a business trip to New York. Consequently, the delay in answering, as I did not return until the 20th and have been quite busy since. While there, (in New York) I completed the organization of the work that I am trying to do. In other words, I want to go about the work in a systematic and scientific manner, if possible, and we desire to give as much help and service to people as is possible for us to do. Should be very glad for you, at any time that you desire it, to undertake another reading for you. I believe the reading that you should have would be physical, mental and spiritual, and in that you would be given that with which to deal with the condition, if your physical is produced from the action of others, or if it is brought on by the way you think, and therefore becomes a mental and physical condition with yourself. As to the remuneration, of course it is necessary for us to have this, but we want each and every individual to know first that our desire is to help if possible, and if they will cooperate with us in what we are trying to do, we are glad to undertake it for them at any time, and then let them set the time when they are able to pay in dollars and cents.

Almost a month has past since I sent you $2.00 for a reading to be given me on May 22 at 10 o’clock.

I have never heard a word from you since sending the payment of $2.00. Will you kindly refund the small amount if you are not going to fulfill the engagement.

Intended to send another payment, had you acknowledged receipt of the $2.00 I sent, but as I feared from the beginning that it was all a money making joke, not hearing from you. I’m well assured of the of the fact, so I’d be greatly oblige to you if you will kindly return my small amount - and oblige.

My dear Mrs. [3865]

I have yours of June 16th and was certainly very much surprised to have such a letter, for in all of my experience I have never had anyone accuse me of being in the money faking business. I assure you, Mrs. [3865] that I did not receive a letter from you telling me that the date as set on our book, May 22nd, was satisfactory. Neither did I receive any of any kind since you wrote me that you did not feel you could pay what others had been contributing, and I wrote you setting another date, assuring you that I would be glad to undertake it for you and you could pay as you saw fit and your means justified same. I DID NOT receive, however, any letter from you, or any money, for I assure you there are few days that pass that I do not give some of the work for people who never even send five cents. I shall be only too glad to undertake this for you, if you still desire it, and I will give you reference to hundreds of people, if you so desire, there in Birmingham, but I am certainly sincere when I tell you I did not receive any money nor a letter from you regarding same. I notice this letter is addressed just to Dayton, Ohio. That perhaps may be the reason that it was not delivered, and if you had your return address you will perhaps receive it back. If the money was sent by check, or by Post Office Money Order, I wish you would look into the matter and see who cashed same.

Dear Sir,

Yours of the 16th rec’d and I am very much surprised to know that you did not receive the letter from me with the card filled, enclosed for a reading on the 22 of May.

If you remember you sent me a card to be filled out, for a reading to be given on the 10th of May - then you wrote me that the card reached you too late for the date. Then you sent me another card with date May 22. I returned the card also a two dollar bill on Friday before Wednesday 22 of May.

Therefore receiving no other word from you, I naturally believed you had received same.

Now honestly, God is my witness, that I surely did send the money. I should have sent a money order but as I wasn’t convenient to the post office, & believing it would go just as safely to you as all of my previous mail had, I therefore sent it, without securing its safety. Now, I believe what you write me, but I do not believe other that someone in your employment got the money. IF they did, I surely hope they will enjoy the benefit of it as much as I need it. I’m very sorry if I hurt your feelings for I am one person who certainly possess the kindest of feelings for the innocent.

I sent the money as sure as there is a God in heaven.

I have yours of the 21st. I cannot understand how your letter miscarried but I have missed or failed to receive several letters that I have afterwards heard about. I’m having the Postal Authorities to look after this. I remember very well the two cards were sent but the one setting the date as the 22nd certainly did not get back to the office. However, I am enclosing you another card, setting the date as the first. Please fill this in and return at once, and we will see what we can get for you. You will please give the own given name instead of initial, and be sure and be at the address as given. Give house number or direction that the location may be made, and if there are any special questions you wish asked, other than the general diagnosis, please make note of them.
