This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 20th day of March, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3904], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. (Notes read to and transcribed by Jeanette Fitch.) Harmon Bro.]
Time of Reading 3:45 to 3:50 P. M. Eastern War Time. New York, N.Y.

GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: 1075 Park Avenue, Apt. … very unusual in some of these halls, isn’t it - what funny paintings!
-
Yes - we have the body here, [3904].
-
As we find, there are conditions causing disturbances with this body. These are because of improper coordination of the activities of the inner and outer glandular force as related to the thyroid. This allows for deficiencies in certain chemical forces, especially as related to the epidermis, or the activities in the toes and the fingers and the hair. These are distressing disturbances to the body.
-
There is that which has caused much of the disturbance - a long-standing subluxation existent in the 3rd and 4th lumbar centers, which prevents the perfect circulation through the glands of the thyroid area.
-
We would make corrections osteopathically in that specific area, coordinating the 3rd cervical and the lumbar axis with same.
-
We would also begin taking Atomidine internally as a purifier for the glands and to stimulate better thyroid activity. This may change the heart’s regularity for the time but if it is properly administered and the osteopathic corrections are made properly, we will find changes wrought in the activities in the epidermis and as associated or related to the hair.
-
For the scalp we would prepare a close-fitting cap - oil cap to be used once a week or left on over night, when the scalp would be massaged with pure hog lard. Not that which has been mixed with vegetable matter but the pure pork or hog lard. Massage this in at night. Sleep with it in the hair and scalp. Using the cap as protection. In the morning have a thorough shampoo with Olive Oil shampoo, massaging the scalp afterward with white vaseline cut with a little alcohol solution - just sufficient to cleanse same; about a drop of grain alcohol to an ounce of water - just enough to change the activity of same.
-
Do eat more of sea foods, more carrots, and - while certain times will have to be chosen for such - do eat onions and garlic.
-
Do these and we will bring better conditions for the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through with this reading.
Two copies to Self (one for the osteopath - We would refer you to: Dr. George N. Coulter, 18 E. 41st St., N.Y.C.) Copy to Ass’n file ” under case number for indexing
(Atomidine is distributed by The Atomidine Company, Attention: Mr. Harold S. Bisey, 1326 St. Johns Place, Brooklyn, N.Y. It sells for $1.00 a bottle.)

R1. 4/2/44 [3904]‘s ltr. to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce;
Thank you very much for the reading of March 20, 1944. I have examined it with great interest and plan to follow the instructions as soon as possible. However, as I will not be in New York again until June I will not be able to start the main part of the treatment till that time. I will keep in touch with the Association once I have begun.
Sincerely yours, [3904]
R2. 4/6/44 Mother’s letter requesting her own appointment: “I have been much impressed with the reading you gave my daughter [3904]. It is amazing how well her case was diagnosed. Unfortunately, she will not be able to start the treatments until June when she will return home from college.”
R3. 7/21/44 [3904]‘s ltr. to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Having recently returned to New York City it is now possible for me to start the treatments you advised in the reading of March 20, 1944. Dr. George Coulter administered the first treatment today and he would like to know what dosage of Atomidine you prescribe to accompany the osteopathic corrections. I hope it will be possible for you to advise us on this matter so that the reading can be followed exactly.
I will keep you informed on all developments.
R4. 7/25/44 EC’s ltr. to [3904]:
Mrs. [3904] New York, N.Y.
Dear Mrs. [3904]
I have yours of the 21st, and note what you have to say about your treatments, and your request for information regarding the dosage of Atomidine.
The unusual dosage, as given, is about one drop every morning for five mornings. Then leave it off for five mornings. Then repeat it again. Do this some three to four times.
Trusting this will help you,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:gp
R5. 10/2/44 [3904]‘s ltr. to GD:
Miss Gladys Davis Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Miss Davis;
After reading the October bulletin I am especially reluctant to ask if a check reading would be possible to arrange. I had not intended to do so, but today, Dr. George Coulter said it was advisable. I have been under treatment by him twice a week for nearly three months. From now on I’m going for treatment about every five days. Dr. Coulter says the circulation has improved and there is much less congestion in the spine. My allergy to ragweed, etc., which usually makes summer and fall very unpleasant has been practically non-existent. The same is true of an ache in my legs from which I used to suffer frequently.
If a check reading is not possible for some time I would like to know more specifically how to prepare the vaseline, alcohol and water mixture for my hair. We have not been able to notice any change in the condition of the hair, but realize that will probably take longer.
I have just finished reading with great interest Mr. Sugrue’s THERE IS A RIVER. It has been especially helpful to me at this time for a month ago my husband was reported killed in action over Germany. Because of conflicting information, plus the strong belief of two astrologers who offered their help, and of many other people, we are not willing to accept the war department notice. I know nothing of astrology and have been wondering whether the Association has published anything in this field which might help me to evaluate the information of these friends. I would appreciate any suggestions.
R6. (Sent forms & extracts on health hints, etc.)

It is our hope that you will keep in touch with us through subscribing to our Monthly Bulletin, which carries news of the Association activities and extracts from readings or our Weekly Letter, which consists solely of extracts from the readings. We will send you either of these for six dollars a year or both for twelve dollars a year.

Appreciate your interest and hoping that we may soon hear from you in regard to some phase of our Publications and Research Program, I am

R7. 10/7/44 GD’s ltr. to [3904]:
Dear Mrs. [3904]:
I am very sorry that we are unable to make an appointment for your Ck. Physical at this time. Mr. Cayce is still away from home, following a line of treatment suggested for him in his last reading. It has been almost two months since he has been able to give a reading. I talked to Mrs. Cayce on the phone this morning - she says he is steadily improving but it seems awfully slow. It seems as if we will have to try more and more to use the information he has already given us, instead of looking for anything new in the near future.
The enclosed forms and extracts may be of interest to you. Thanks very much for the $10 on the Bldg. Fund - I am forwarding this to Mrs. Seay, the treasurer of that fund.
I do hope you will be feeling much better soon, and that in a few months Mr. Cayce can give you the appointments desired.

R8. 6/13/51 Reply to Questionnaire:
Date of Reading: 3/20/44
Under the Edgar Cayce Foundation which was established in 1948, we are indexing and microfilming all of the 30,000 Edgar Cayce readings, complete with briefed correspondence preceding and report following each reading. A case number instead of the name is used for all individuals who obtained readings. The case numbers are microfilmed numerically, the subject index cards show the case numbers, so that each case
- or each subject - can be studied in a complete form and in its original setting. One of our main purposes is to make available under subject headings all of the readings on specific diseases. Thus the Association’s Advisory Board of Physicians may be able to test the information and make it available to clinics or hospitals treating specific diseases.
Were you able to follow the advice given in your Physical reading? If so, just what results were obtained. Your cooperation in this matter will enable others suffering from ailments similar to yours to benefit from the experiences you have had, through our research making the results available. Please fill out and return at your earliest convenience the questionnaire below.
Chief Complaint: Thin, fine hair Date of Onset: From birth Duration: Still exists, but some improvement noticed. Reoccurrence: [No response] Intensity: [No response]
Physicians’ Diagnosis and Treatment: Dr. found spinal condition to exist, just as described by Mr. Cayce. Treated accordingly several months.
Reading’s Recommendations: Osteopathy, with special attention to 3rd and 4th lumbar centers. Atomidine internally. Pure hog lard massaged into scalp and left over night, once a week. Shampoo with Olive Oil, followed by massage with white vaseline cut with alcohol. One drop of grain alcohol to an ounce of water.
Date: 6/13/51 Signed Mrs. [3904] (Patient, parent, or guardian)
Note: Please give name and address of any physicians who helped you carry out your reading. Dr. George Coulter, New York City.
(Use reverse side, or additional sheet, if required.)
We are extremely anxious to have a detailed and lengthy report on the exact manner in which you followed your reading.
Further, we would like any comments you care to make regarding the comment in your reading that read as follows: “1075 Park Avenue, Apt. 80 - very unusual in some of these halls, isn’t it - what funny paintings!” Would you say this as an accurate observation?
“Yes - include wood plaques from Central America and other unusual wall adornments.
Toward the end of 1944 Dr. Coulter said he could do no more without a check reading. I requested one - was given an appointment, but Mr. Cayce died before it was to take place. I did not continue osteopathy.
Hog lard I have kept up at intervals throughout the years. Atomidine also, up to about 2 years ago. Intend to start again, as I seem to suffer increasingly from frozen feet and hands in winter. Was never able to understand lotion of vaseline, alcohol and water, in spite of further instructions from you at my request. The vaseline just formed a ball floating in the liquid. Occasionally apply vaseline alone.
In spite of haphazard application of treatment, my hair has shown improvement in past three years. This period concurs with my remarriage and subsequent GREATLY increased intake of GARLIC as recommended by Mr. Cayce. (French influence) Have also tried to eat other recommended foods - fish, potato skins, carrots, onions, more frequently.
Atomidine dosage was, I believe, 1-2 drops in water every day.”

B1. 12/16/43 [3904]‘s ltr. to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I had just been home a few days after leaving my husband who is on his way overseas, when my mother told me the story of your good works in the behalf of humanity. We decided that I should ask your advice on a matter that is compared with many of the problems you deal with will seem insignificant, yet to me it is very important.
I have very weak hair and a decided tendency to baldness. My mother has worried excessively over this for years, and recently it has affected me increasingly. The reason is that I’m joyously married to the finest, most idealistic, intelligent boy imaginable, and want to be as worthy and attractive a wife for him as possible.
The thought of baldness within the next few years (I’m twenty-one) is a very depressing one for a girl. It disturbs me not only for my husband’s and my sake, but for our children-to-be who may inherit the tendency.
I would appreciate your help so very much yet realize that this may seem a minor problem. If you are willing to consider this could you please let me know how much reading costs so that I can send a check.
I’d like to wish you continued success in you work which has made happy the lives of so many.
