Running Art Shop) This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 27th day of March, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [3908], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Born March 14, 1899, in Sivas, Turkey. Time of Reading Set bet. 3:30 to 4:30 P. M. Taken 4:15 to 4:35 P. M. Eastern War Time. New York 21, N.Y.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Sivas, Turkey - what a quaint place - a new cycle!

3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called in the present environs [3908].

4. In giving the interpretations of the records here of this entity as we find here, the seal or the cover of the book of the records, would be interesting to the entity.

5. For this should be a white background, at least fourteen inches square, colored blue with a shade of green and red around the edges, and a circle at least thirteen inches made and the coloring on the outer edge of this circle.

6. In the center would be a lotus flower with leaf and with the pink and white petal showing in the center of the opening lotus flower.

7. In the left-hand upper corner would be the harp - the hand harp or small harp; not the zither, yet the small harp.

8. All of these figures should be vignetted.

9. On the right-hand upper corner would be the nurse, the patient and the nurse, with the Red Cross of the insignia of same indicated upon the cap or upon the apron of the nurse.

10. In the lower left-hand corner or edge put an open market place with wares of all characters, especially the various forms of crockery, pots, urns, vases and small figures.

11. In the lower right-hand corner put the insignia of the Cross and the flag, both of Turkey and the U.S.A. All of these figures should be in colors, to be sure.

12. In giving the interpretation of the records, there is much from which to choose. For, as indicated, from the seal, this is a very unusual entity or one endowed with many abilities. In music should the entity excel, in the stringed instruments, harp or plane, and such music should be used for the applications in healing, or as part of the entity’s endeavor to reclaim individual entities that are disturbed by nerve or shell shock or long weariness in the out-of-the-way places. For these are abilities with the entity that may be surpassed only by very few.

13. There are also the abilities to attract, as well as to be universal in its nature of attraction, for the very characters of individuals are parts of the entity’s consciousness; and ever, as indicated, under the seal or the Cross, and of unity of purpose in the activities of its own peoples in the present as well as those in the land of its present adoption.

14. For the entity in the appearance before this was among those who aided in the settling of the land of the present adoption, in those activities that brought about the accepting of music of a martial nature, when the first songs or marching airs were introduced in those periods of the Revolution, when Yankee Doodle was set to music.

15. Thus the entity in the name Charlotte Daye gained. The entity applied itself. Hence in the present those activities having to do with music, added to the voice or activities in the environ of those who are injured, those only partially conscious of materiality, the entity may aid the more.

16. Before that the entity was in the Holy Land among those who went on missions to portions of Turkey or the Armenian land, and portions of the lands of the entity’s present nativity.

17. For the entity contributed to the healing of body, mind and soul through the teachings of the Master. Thus the combination of the Cross with the flags of the two nations is indicated in the seal for the entity.

18. Then name then was Rachel.

19. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land during those periods when there were the preparations of individuals for activities in other lands, as emissaries or missionaries.

20. The entity was a musician upon the ancient harp of Egypt or the lyre. The entity’s use of voice as well as the administering to the young and old, especially to those afflicted or the shut-ins - even of those periods - contributed such that it made for the entity being called blessed by many, because of the great contribution the entity made to the welfare of the people of many lands, not only the Persian, the Armenian, the Holy Land, but even portions of India, yet the entity found time also for the activities of the social nature.

21. While prohibitive in the present, we find that these will some day be a portion of the entity’s activity, if there is the adding to the present abilities those accomplishments with the use of stringed instruments - harp, guitar, lyre, plane or whatever is the choice of the entity. But do add these to thy accomplishments and use them in aiding the groups that will soon be needing such in many places.

22. As to the abilities of the entity and that to which it may attain and how:

23. Follow thy seal and the lotus will open again to Sesame for the entity, as it will find, and the coral and white will be the seal for the entity, as it applied itself in a greater service for its fellow man.

25. (Q) How should I go about getting into the phase of work indicated? (A) Prepare self and we will find that very soon the way will be opened for the entity to be used in this service, in which it may contribute much more than the ordinary individual.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I received my Life Reading on Monday the 3rd of April. I don’t know what to say. I have been so deeply touched by it that I can not find words to express my feelings. Having no preconceived notions about my previous lives, the whole thing came as a complete surprise to me. This is an experience that defies explanation.

Of course I intend to do my utmost to follow the suggestions in the Reading. I have always been a lover of good music and have had some instruction in playing the violin when I was a young girl in my teens, but after coming to America and going into the nursing profession, I was unable to devote any time to music.

Many times I have had the desire to take it up again just as a hobby but trying to earn a living has taken up all my time up to the present. However as soon as I can get rid of my business, which I hope to be able to do by next June, and get my bearings, I shall begin to look into the matter seriously. My brother was a violinist before his illness so perhaps he can give some lessons.

The violin is not mentioned in the Reading but since it is a string instrument it might do. First of all though I want to see what I can do about finding a small harp as this is mentioned several times in the Reading.

I can’t tell you how grateful I am to you for giving this Reading for me at this time.

I hope you are feeling entirely well now and I pray that God will give you strength to carry on the wonderful work which is so helpful to so many who are in distress physically or spiritually.

In closing may I thank you and Mrs. Cayce and your staff from the bottom of my heart and wish you all a Happy Easter season.

Dear Miss Davis:

I am at a loss for words to express my feelings. All I can say is that both my brother and I feel as though we have lost our last friend.

Although we knew Mr. Cayce only through correspondence and our readings, we had a very great affection and admiration for him.

It is difficult to understand why God whose to call him home when the world needed him desperately. Undoubtedly he will be carrying on from the other shore.

I am sure any life that was touched by him will never forget him, and his influence will linger with them to the end of their lives.

I would very much like to know if the association is going to carry on its research work or not, and if so would I be eligible for membership. I had intended to renew my membership last November but was unable to do so because of ill health and resulting financial difficulty.

Please let me hear from you whenever it is convenient for you and you can find the time.

6. In what respects do you feel that your Life Reading was (1) true, (2) false, (3) correct, (4) imaginary, (5) hocus pocus, (6) inaccurate, (7) incomplete, (8) trivial? I have not idea whether it is correct or not but I would never call it hocus pocus.

7. Do you believe in a reincarnation of the soul and, if so, why? Yes. It is the only logical explanation to life’s inequalities.

8. What is your idea or concept of Karma? Is it (a) a state to which a people aspire, (2) a state to which an individual aspires, (c) an environmental influence, (d) a hereditary influence, (e) something you yourself have done or thought or left undone and unthought in a previous incarnation? [(e) underlined]

9. Have you in any respect consciously changed your (1) vocation, (2) thoughts, (3) actions or reactions toward others as a result of your Life Reading? I don’t think so.

10. Assuming your life to be no casual accident or experiment, do you have any new or different concept as to the purpose of your life as a result of your Life Reading? Not consciously.

11. Have you ever systematically or otherwise set apart any part of your day, week, month or any other period of your time for introspection or an examination and analysis of your inner self (and we do not mean writing in a diary) as suggested in your Life Reading? If not, why not and, if so, are there any results measurable to you? I do often, though not regularly, spend time for introspection. Hard to say what the results are.

12. Do you regard your vocation, whether it be as a laborer, supervisor, manager, official, engineer, lawyer, doctor, housewife, mother, or what not, as the dominant force in your life or do you look upon your vocation as an agency through which you can the better fulfill your purpose in this life? 13. How, in your opinion, can our Association best carry on the work of Edgar Cayce and the good for which he stood?

I did sell out my shop as I had planned in July 1944, because I was in need of a change & rest. Also wanted to devote more time to my brother’s treatments.

I do not recall what Sivas, Turkey was like as I was a baby when we moved to a different place, but I am sure the observation was correct.

I am sorry to say I have not had an artist paint the seal for me.

I must say after my brother [3491]‘s passing I lost heart or interest & while I would not venture to say whether the life reading is accurate or not, because I have no way of checking the information. Yet I believe the promises contained therein must be for the next life or some future life. This life from the very beginning, has been full of restraints, disappointments & disheartening events. No doubt there is a reason for it all. I only hope that I shall learn whatever I came here to learn through these experiences.

I did take piano lessons for 2 years hoping it would help bring about some of the changes mentioned in the reading, but I have not continued it. About a year ago I went back into nursing. This is about all I can say about myself at present.

B1. 8/24/43 Letter requesting a Physical Reading for her brother, [3491]: “I would also like to ask you if I could get a health and work reading. I am very dissatisfied with my present work and feel I must make a change. But since I have the sole responsibility of supporting mother and my brother I don’t like to make a move without being sure that I will find something more suitable. I have a small business of my own for six years which I have been able to keep going only by working long hours. Now it has gotten to the point where it is getting very monotonous, especially since my sister passed on over two years ago. She was my partner unofficially. I just feel as though I have not found my niche in life.”

B2. 10/16/43 [3908]‘s letter:

In this reading I would be very much interested in finding out about a suitable occupation.

I am a registered nurse by profession. I practiced from 1921 to 1937. At the beginning of 1937 I gave up my last position at the hospital in order to take a much needed vacation and also look after my brother [3491] who had just come home from the hospital. After a while my brother’s doctor suggested that we start a small business of some kind to give my brother something to do, since he was unable to continue with his musical career. (He is a graduate of the Juliard School of Music, a violinist.) After his sickness he has been unable to play. In October of 1937 my sister and I ventured to start a small business which we hoped would help to rehabilitate my brother and also eventually give us both a chance to give up nursing entirely. (My sister was also a nurse.) However, my brother would have nothing to do with coming in contact with customers, he takes care of the bookkeeping part of it. In the mean time my sister also got sick in 1938 and was operated for a malignant growth. Two years after this she had a recurrence and passed on in May 1941.

As you can readily see all these problems have sort of got me down, as the saying goes, and the responsibility of running a business alone 12 hours a day 6 days a week is becoming very trying and distasteful to me. Of course I have to do something to earn a livelihood for my mother, brother & myself, but I feel the need of a complete change.

I am hoping that this life reading will reveal some clue in that direction and also help me to understand why my life has been so difficult a[nd] trying from the very beginning.

Please pardon my taking the liberty to write such a long letter, but I don’t know how else I could explain things.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I want to tell you first of all how happy I was to have the opportunity to see and hear you last Tuesday night at Steinway Hall. I had to wait outside until 9:30 to get in but it was worth it. I wanted very much at least to speak to you but I realized it would be impossible under the circumstances. I hope some day to have the good fortune to meet you.

B5. 3/13/44 Letter: “Even though I am very anxious to get my Life Reading, may I ask you to feel entirely free to postpone it until you are better if necessary. I know the strain on you must be terrific; therefore, if postponing my appointment will help to ease that a little I will be only too glad to wait.”
