This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 8th day of November, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [391], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Tamiami Trail & Time of Reading Hill St., 10:55 to 11:00 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Ft. Myers, Fla. (Body and enquiring mind. Questions regarding his business and material welfare)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [391]; those conditions and the material associations.

2. As we find, while there have been those conditions and circumstances that have made a great deal of anxiety on the part of the body and those associated with same in the activities there, this - as the seasons begin, as the changes come about - should make for a most satisfactory arrangement; enabling the body not only to make for recuperations that appear at present to be investments without returns but more besides.

3. So, let the body be patient. And make the stress upon the foods and service that would be WHOLLY in keeping with the law. The associations and activities, then, would be in not only the hamburger and hot dog but also a chicken dinner might be prepared and used as a specialty.

4. These should, unless there are the anxieties allowed that would cause the body to endeavor to make for other changes, bring about the DESIRED results.

5. Be courteous; be kind. And make for placarding the routes that come to those directions. This at not a great expense; it can be done by those about the body - just boards or placards that might be put along the highway, in the trail and in those entering from the city itself and those connections.

6. And you will find these will be most satisfactory. Forty dollars a day gross should be a very small amount as the seasons are underway.

8. (Q) How long will it be before we get the average winter business? (A) By the 15th or the 20th of the month it should BEGIN. See, there is NOT the great amount of travel on those activities until there is some settled condition of those things that have brought and do bring about turmoils and anxieties on the part of some traveling through these portions. Hence by the 20th we should find a sufficient to more than balance the activities, or to meet the needs. By the 15th of December, then, until the first of March or 15th of March, we should find most satisfactory results.

9. (Q) Should we keep the place during the summer months and let someone run it for us, or should we sell out at the close of the winter season? (A) As we find, it would be better just to close for the summer season.

10. (Q) Will we be able to get our $400 back, that we invested in it, before next summer? (A) As indicated; you should get not only that but much more. More than twice that much should be CLEARED above all investments!

11. (Q) Is this the location spoken of in the previous reading? (A) This is a very good location.

12. (Q) How much rent should we pay here? (A) It is not an excess in what has been, if same will be kept as indicated.

R1. 11/18/35 “First, I want to thank you for the last rdg. you gave me. It helped a lot in boosting up my courage or whatever it was I needed. Business has been getting better all the time and I do believe things will turn out as the rdg. says. However, it’s still quite a job keeping all the expenses paid up. I run about three or four dollars short at the bank all the time, but I always manage to beat the check there with enough money to cover it.” [He also requested 934-3 for his wife, who was one month pregnant.]

R2. 12/30/35 “We probably won’t be able to hold the place much over 2 wks. longer. I’ve borrowed 165 to keep us going until the season got here but it's all gone and we can't pay our rent, lights and car payment... So I don't see anything to do but sell what interest we have in the car for 100 or whatever we can get for it and let [934] go home [to Ohio] and [2111] and […] to Ala., and I intend to look for a job somewhere. I have a fine of 15 that I owe for a mess I got into about a slot machine. I can't pay that, so I might get my room and board for about a month at least. This lovely state of Fla. I hope I never see it again, if I ever get out of it... I hate to send you a letter like this, but it isn't just the customary blues, it's just as things are. I'm 40 behind in the bank on cks. and rent, lights, fine and car payments due. What can I do? If you think the readings would cover a condition like this, I certainly would like to have one.

R3. 1/6/36 EC’s reply: “I have yours of the 30th. I’m sorry indeed to note that you are discouraged and disappointed in your undertaking there, and feel that you have got to give up. I have been so busy the last day or so that’s impossible to write, owing to the emergency readings; for we have scarcely had anything else each day since the 1st; even on the first day and ever since there has been an emergency reading, so that we have had to put off the regular routine.

“But I believe you will agree with me, and I hope you will bear with me and listen at me, [391], for just a minute. I feel, of course, responsible in a way and manner for your having gone to Florida. I feel a bit responsible even for your ever getting married. Yet I am sure you realize, from your knowledge and study of human experience, it isn’t knowledge alone, it is the wisdom in the application of the knowledge that may be given you that makes for good or for bad. Now, one may give you an understanding or a knowledge, but the wisdom and the application of same is up to you yourself.

“But hold on there for a time, [391], anyway. I have the feeling that you are going to find that it is very much like Virginia Beach; the real season there will not be until possibly the middle of January and until the first weeks of March. That’s the one thing, first! Even if you have to borrow more money from Mr. Tepper or somebody else, CARRY ON! DO NOT, above all things, send [934] home. Stay with her; keep her with you through this period. It’s going to be best for you and you’ll think more of yourself, and you’ll think more of everything that you’re going through! And she will, I’m sure. If it becomes necessary that you lose the car, or that some of the rest of them go home, do it - but you stick it out, and keep her WITH you above everything else! For you are passing through a time and a period that only happens once in a man’s life, and if you don’t make the most of it you’ll regret it the rest of your whole experience. But I just feel like it’s going to work out. Don’t give it up! Hold to it! Don’t try to run off and leave whatever discouraging things you have! MEET ‘EM! Anyone can do fine when things are going dandy! It shows the real man and the real worth of a fellow that can meet the emergencies when things are going all wrong.

“I’m sure you’ve made a lot of friends there. You may have run up against some tough propositions also, but you can meet them a whole lot better together, [391], than you can by going off and leaving each other. And I’m sure that [934] will agree with me. Talk it over. Let this thing that is happening bring you closer together than you have ever been in your life! Let it knit that thing it is intended to knit in the experience of every individual - the love and the knowledge that comes from knowing you are responsible for the creating of a channel for a soul expressing itself in the material world!

“It’s a big proposition, yes. But God has promised those who call that He will hear. Let it make YOU, then, closer to Him. He won’t turn His back on you, no matter how bad you have been or FEEL you have been. Because you haven’t been bad at all. You know OF Him, and you know you are a channel through which He is manifesting at this time. Then ACT like it! Don’t try to dodge this issue!

“You know that if I can be of a help through a reading, I’m only too glad to try. Possibly the circumstances have been such that what is needed is for me to talk to you like a dutch uncle. And maybe you think it’s none of my business. But it’s because I DO think a lot of you, think a lot of you both, that I’m saying the things I am. I’ve had the experience, I know what it means. And we have had the experience of the readings through the last thirty-five years. I know, from the good that has been brought into the experience of individuals, the work is worth while. I can’t be fooled that long, and I couldn’t fool the thousands of people that claim and testify that it has been valuable to them. Now YOU make it valuable in your life! The reading may tell you the thing to do for your best development, materially, mentally, spiritually; it may give you the knowledge, but the DOING is up to YOU!

“If you have to borrow MORE money to meet these things, then DO IT! But HE will arrange it, if you will do the right thing. You know, all the increase that may come comes from God. YOU can’t change it; you can only do that which will make yourself a channel through which He can work - which is DOING RIGHT! Maybe you think I’m foolish, [391], but take this as it is meant, and stick to it there.

“If you find that you have to ask Mr. Tepper again for a loan, then tell him the whole situation, [391]; and that you’ve got to stay together, and that no doubt the proposition there will let you “break even”, if nothing more. And it’ll be a whole lot better. Tell him you have GOT to stay together, and WHY. And that’s the thing you MUST do! If not, you’ll regret it the rest of your life.

“Drop me a line when you have the opportunity. I’m not preaching to you, I’m talking just PRACTICAL sense!

R4. 1/9/36 “I was very glad to get your letter and feel you were right in advising what you did, not really knowing the circumstances as they are. I don’t want you to think I blame you or anyone else for the position I’m in. Somewhere or somehow it is my own fault. It isn’t a question of holding onto anything that we have, but to manage to get something to eat and a place to sleep. We have already been given notice to get out and the time is about up. What we’re trying to do is stay together some way. [934] thinks I might have a chance to get a job in … Ohio]. We can live with her mother and the expenses won’t be very much. The whole trouble now is trying to get enough money to get up there on, and it’s not easy. The place is empty of stock and has been several days, with no money to buy more. The idea of borrowing more is out of the question. If I couldn’t make this place pay with 500 invested in it, I don't feel like it is right to try to get more to put into it. I don't want you to think that I'm running out on the place because things didn't look so good ahead. It's just that I've stayed too long now. We've got less than 5 to our name with plenty of bills that should be paid.

“I don’t know why the rdgs. sent me down here but I feel that it was for some other purpose than making a living. It might have been to get me out of this kind of work altogether, because I don’t like it and never have. I feel that if I could get another rdg. now it would help me a lot in more ways than one. I feel that there must be an opportunity in some other line of work that I can make a success of and that will help my development at the same time.

“Thanks a lot for what you have done for us or for me, rather, and I hope you don’t get the wrong picture of things down here. The problem now is [934] having the correct food and rest, and her mother’s [[998]‘s] is the only place I know of where she can get it.” Sincerely your friend, [391]

R5. 1/17/36 He wrote from Ohio: “I believe everything will work out for the best. I sold Sol Tepper half interest in the place for enough money to get up here on, and he is going to stock the place up and try to make a little something out of it.”
