This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 17th day of August, 1933, in accordance with request made by Mr. [335], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 3:15 to 3:45 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ill. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [392].
-
Now, as we find, the conditions that disturb the body in the present are rather the outgrowth of complications that have existed. And the tendencies in the present would be to administer for effects rather than for the causes of the disturbances.
-
The disturbances in the main, in the present, appear to arise from the general nervous condition - with specific reactions at times.
-
These, to be sure, must have a basis; for the conditions to have become so aggravating in the present.
-
Then, these are the conditions as we find them with this body, [392] we are speaking of:
-
In the BLOOD SUPPLY, this we find deficient in those elements that tend to care for those activities in the system of replenishing or eliminating used energies. Hence a form of reactions that makes for impoverishments to the general system, produced by reactions - as we shall see - of the inability of certain glands to secrete those necessary elements for the supply of the assimilated forces in the hormones of the blood stream.
-
In the NERVOUS SYSTEM, here we find reactions both in the cerebro-spinal and sympathetic nervous systems that are the effects of disorders, and in the SAME way and manner PRODUCE the inability of the functioning system through the circulatory system to produce that necessary force or impulse for the proper resuscitation. And, an incoordination exists between the cerebro-spinal and sympathetic; not to the point where the condition may be termed wholly MENTAL, but there are periods when the impulse for activity on the part of the body and the reaction to carry same out do not coordinate in the locomotaries of the system. This of itself has its psychopathic effect upon the body. There are, however, those conditions that are within themselves of the nature that the system is lacking in elements, as we have indicated. And not only does this prevent the system from responding through the general nervous system as related to impulses, sympathetic and psychopathic, but prevents the organs from creating or from functioning in a normal manner - as we have given.
-
As to the ORGANS of the body:
-
At some period back there has been the attempt on the part of the body to alter or change the effect of the reactions in the normal activities of the body; thus producing to the nervous system, to the functioning of organs in the system, a shock to the general organism.
-
There has more recently been a general nervous strain under which the body has passed. And a collapsing, as indicated, of the nerve forces with the general activity of the GLANDS; especially in reproductive, adrenal and the lacteals, as well as involving - to be sure - the thyroids, that have produced this debilitation in the system.
-
As to the functioning of the organs themselves, then, from the nerve forces in brain to the lower orders of activity in digestion and eliminations, these are under the stress and strain of the impoverishment in circulation, as well as those activities in the nerve system incoordination.
-
And the results, then, are exhaustion on the part of many of the organs from a normal functioning.
-
Then, in meeting the needs of the conditions, as we would find:
-
First we would begin with a compound to be taken internally, that will act with the impulses without affecting those glands and organs that are under such stress; but will aid in relaxing the system without being destructive as a hypnotic or narcotic influence, yet - necessarily - acting sedatively with some portions of the nerve and assimilating system, but tending toward creating a balance - as well as reducing the nausea that occurs when there are the attempts for proper assimilations:
-
To 4 ounces of COMPOUND simple syrup, add:
Tincture of Valerian…2 ounces, Elixir of Calisaya…1 1/2 ounces, 10% solution Iodide of Potassium…15 minims, 10% solution Bromide of Potassium…30 minims, Tincture of Stillingia…1/2 ounce, Syrup of Ipecac…20 minims, Tincture of Capsici…3 minims.
The dose would be half a teaspoonful three or four hours apart, or when necessary as a palliative; not a curative at all.
-
We would begin then, immediately, with a gentle massage or manipulation to relax the body, so that there may be the greater amount of recuperative forces active within the system.
-
We would also, every OTHER day, take eight minims of Atomidine. This is sufficient in the beginning, or for the first fifteen days.
-
In the second week we would also begin with applications of the Radio-Active Appliance, using that which carries the charge in the negative anode of the Chloride of Gold. This would be attached for thirty to sixty minutes each evening. preferably when the body is ready for rest or retirement - or at that period.
-
Be mindful - in the diet - that those properties are given that are easily assimilated, and that are nerve and blood building. Hence beef juice, with a little stimuli of wine and iron, is helpful to the body. Green vegetables prepared in a palatable way and manner.
-
Do these, and we will find we will bring a much nearer normal reaction.
-
After twenty-six days of treatments, taking all in their order and their rotation - being mindful that the eliminations are kept balanced in system, giving the manipulations sufficiently often to keep relaxed (two to three times each week), then we will give further instructions.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should the manipulations be given osteopathically? (A) PREFERABLY, osteopathically.
-
(Q) Where should the Radio-Active be applied to the body? (A) The first anode, or that without the Gold, would be attached to the 4th lumbar plexus; and that carrying the Gold would be attached at the lacteal duct area or center, or about two and a half or three inches from the umbilicii center - or near the gall duct, see?
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 8/23/33 Sister’s letter in re possibility of arranging for Mrs. [392] to be placed in home of Miss Annie Cayce to follow the treatment:
“This time it started a yr. ago with a nervous breakdown, we think caused by the loss of money during the depression. She had had several nervous breakdowns before this but could always be handled at home. In the previous ones she was always very depressed but docile and there has never been any mental derangement. But this one has taken on a slight mental derangement which manifests itself in an overactivity and the outlet is to wash and scrub anything she can lay her hands on, whether washable or not, such as fur coats, fine dresses. She must be disciplined along this line, but when she is, there is a temporary outburst of wrath, altho’ the case is not a violent one. She is in a nervous state and is constantly wanting to do physical labor of the most menial sort. We have tried Christian Science for almost a yr. in a Christian Science Home. There is improvement in the case but it has not been entirely met. Perhaps she needs some medical aid as you have advised in your rdg.”
R2. GD’s note: They did not follow the rdg. says brother’s ltr. 9/8/33.
