GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body and those disturbances that have been and are a part of the entity’s experience. As we find, it has been rather an experience which others must meet, in that there has not been better attention given or more precautions taken respecting this body.
-
In times back there was an injury to the area between the last of the dorsals and the lumbar area. A pressure exists from a subluxation. With care this may still be reduced, but in times back could have been easily corrected if precautions had been taken - or at least it could have been much more easily eliminated.
-
From these pressures there are those causes for a mental breakdown, so that great imaginations are produced at times and at others there is a sullenness that becomes aggravating to others and equally as depressing to the body-forces of the entity itself.
-
We find that if there would be precautions taken easily by a good osteopath, this subluxation might be reduced or corrected. We would have these treatments twice to three times a week in the beginning until at least twenty-three or twenty-four such adjustments have been made. For it will be found that at times this will become quite aggravating and there will be required the attention of a special attendant.
-
Also about once a week we would apply the short wave therapy to coordinate the centers where sympathetic and cerebrospinal coordinate throughout the whole cerebrospinal system.
-
Thus we may eventually bring near normal conditions for the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Any other advice? (A) Do give the body the opportunity of these adjustments and we may bring the opportunity for a normal, complete expression of the entity’s self, which has been denied - either by negligence or lack of interest.
-
We are through with this reading.

R1. 5/12/51 Sister’s reply to Questionnaire:
Dear Miss Davis
I was never able to give my brother the treatment that was suggested. He is in a private sanitarium, under their Doctor’s care. We would have to take him home and have a private Doctor treat him. He is much better than he was at the time I wrote you altho, time and the fact that he likes it there very much seems to have helped him a great deal. I still believe there is some kind of pressure or that a great disappoint[ment] he had when he was younger was the cause of his trouble. They called his trouble dementia praecox, a disease usually caused by worry and disappointment or resentment. I do know that for the past two years, he has seemed contented and happy. He works in the kitchen and every one out there likes him. Two years ago I had a big disappointment myself. I feel that if I had given up, I would have become ill like he did, but I went to work and tried to attend church every Sunday. I couldn’t give up because I have a child to raise. My mental attitude is much better as I know now, my disappoint[ment] was small, compared to what others have had, and illness others had had to fear. Sometimes I think retribution caught up with me, and if I think less of myself and more of others, I will have a better future than I have had a past. I think one must live completely for others to be able to be happy & contented, which is a hard plan to follow. I doubt if I can ever accomplish it.
Thank you for writing.
Sincerely, […]

B1. 2/9/44 [4004]‘s sister’s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce -
Sometime ago I wrote you and you sent me an application for a reading with a suggestion I read your book. It is a wonderful book, at least the first part. But beginning on page 361, Philosophy, it seems that the system of thought has to do with reincarnation and that man is descended from an ape.
If that is Mr. Sugrue’s belief, and not yours, I am enclosing the money for a reading for my brother. But if you believe that too, I do not want a reading.
My folks are talking of sending my brother back to a sanitarium. I have always felt there is just some pressure or obstruction, that if removed would make him normal again. He is better each year, but my mother is old and he does make her nervous.
Sincerely, […]
B2. 2/19/44 EC’s letter to [4004]‘s sister:
Mrs. […] Los Angeles
Dear Mrs. […]
I have yours of the ninth and note what you have to say about the book as well as the request for a reading for your brother, [4004]. I hope this is not too far in advance, as we are already 12 months in advance with our appointments. We are making this appointment for the afternoon of March 29 from 3:30 to 4:30 EWT. It is necessary that we know exactly where he will be at the hour, and if he is acquainted with the fact that we are trying to help, it will be much better.
Keep the period in prayerful meditation. If you have any special questions to have asked regarding his condition, please send them to us.
Trusting that we may be of a help, I am,
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce
B3. 3/1/44 “He has not been very well the last 2 weeks, more nervous.”
