This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., for this 6th day of April, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [4037], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., via Mrs. Olga M. Etheridge of Princess Anne Draft Board.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [4037].

3. In analyzing the disturbances as we find here, many things are to be taken into consideration if there would be the perfect understanding of the disorders and disturbances. We find that these arise from a condition which arose from hurt, hurt in the mental and spiritual self, the overanxiety of the body; and then a disappointment that, as it were, broke the spirit, broke the desire and purposes of the body; causing, yes, physical conditions to arise.

4. But here, in analyzing, we find the close association between the physical body, the mental body, spiritual body of an individual. While the hurt was in the mental body and the disappointment in the greater part was in the spiritual body, we find that the reaction comes about in the physical being.

5. This, in its manifestation, affects the spleen as related to the blood and nerve supplies in the body.

6. Thus we have a form physically, of anemia which will, unless measures are taken, gradually grow more and more of the pernicious or violent nature in the destruction of the vital energies necessary for physical, mental and spiritual reaction and coordination through the body.

7. The effects are for the body to become so easily tired because of the lack of vital energies. The addition to the body of energy-building forces has not removed the hurt, the disappointment. For this has attacked, as it were, the physical body through the sensory and sympathetic nervous systems; thus causing the character of reaction. Not that there is any mental disturbance, no; it is rather a hurt, an injury, a disappointment such that there can only come the renewing, the revivifying, by the whole trust, the whole faith, the whole renewed life within the mental and spiritual aspects of the body being put in divine hands.

8. Then physically apply the necessary energies to revivify, to replenish the energies, the energy-supplying efforts, so that even from the structural portions of body there may be the rebuilding or supplying from that assimilated in physical digestion, the red blood cellular forces to overcome the physical deficiencies and those tendencies of the energies of the body to be destroyed within the own physical self.

9. We begin first then with the mental attitude. Do the first things first. Begin by the closer study within self of self, as related to the universal consciousness or God. The manifestations indicated in His word, then, must be the basis for this re-lighting, this reviving, this replenishing of the attitudes of the mind and of the spiritual self from those injuries, those hurts, those disappointments.

10. Let’s begin like this: First, don’t be overanxious. Know that it is within self and that what may be supplied by mechanical means is only the means to an end, and the good that may arise from same is only that this form of application may attune the body to that which may gain in its own mental self, by a study, by an analysis of the relation of self to the universal consciousness or God.

11. Begin, then, here: Read Exodus 19:5, then the whole 30th chapter of Deuteronomy. Then turn to Romans, read the whole book of Romans; not analyzing but rather knowing that each of these portions refers to self. These are the activities within self. Then begin with St. John 14, 15, 16, 17. Know these almost by heart, but rather as they apply to self, as they each refer to self. For here are promises. They apply to this body as an individual. For the very fact that ye are conscious of yourself should be the assurance that He, the Father-God, is mindful of thee as an individual entity and that ye have work to do. He is depending upon thee for the knowledge, for the glorifying, for the opportunity to glorify Himself through thee. Do this first.

12. Then, after a period of some two to three weeks, apply mechanically the Radio-Active Appliance for one hour each day, or an hour and a half. This is not as a shocking machine of any electrical forces outside of the body itself. Make the attachments to the wrist and to the opposite ankle, alternating in the usual manner, it will attune the whole body-forces themselves in their vibrations within self to the infinite. Be very mindful to keep the attachment plates clean, being mindful of the instructions as to how this little mechanical appliance works. Use that period each day to meditate and pray.

13. Then live the normal life; that is, be oft in the open. The better exercise is walking.

14. During the hour before the Appliance is attached, apply over the spleen area - that is, across the diaphragm from the lower portion of the right rib, across the left rib; that is, the very low portion and the left side - the Glyco-Thymoline Packs; using three to four thicknesses of cotton cloth saturated with the Glyco-Thymoline. Apply over this the salt heat; that is, take common table salt, spread it about one-half to an inch thick and make a pad, sewing this together so that it doesn’t get in great clogs and heat by putting in the oven. When the Glyco-Thymoline Packs are applied, lie this hot salt over same. Keep on for at least thirty minutes. When this is taken off, attach the Radio-Active Appliance. When the Glyco-Thymoline Packs are being prepared, prepare the Appliance; that is, put the Appliance in the ice. Then connect the lead wires to be attached to the body, when ready to attach to the body.

15. In the periods of meditation, to be sure use thine own words, according to thine own reactions from what you read in the references given, but in this manner:

16. GOD, SUPPLY THAT NEEDED IN MY BODY, IN MY MIND, IN MY PURPOSE; THAT I MAY BE THE BETTER CHANNEL TO GLORIFY THEE IN THE EARTH JUST NOW, IN EVERY WAY THOU WOULD HAVE ME GO.

17. In the diet, do include often such as liver, beef juice, rather than the beef or meat itself; plenty of sea foods, plenty of vegetables - especially raw vegetables.

18. Do these and we will find better conditions coming to this body.

R1. 7/19/44 [4037]‘s letter to EC:

Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. Virginia Beach, Virginia

Dear Sir:

In answer to your letter of July 14th, last, I would appreciate an earlier check-physical reading, if possible. The radio-active treatments that I have been applying have had a detrimental effect instead of soothing and relaxing my body. I experienced this effect with the first battery that I had and thinking that perhaps the battery was defective, I saw Mr. Godfrey, who immediately replaced this battery with a new one. The first three (3) treatments with the new battery had no effect, that is, it did not seem to hurt me nor to help, but the following treatments affected me to the extent that my arms and legs were weakened and ached. These treatments ran me down to such an extent that I have been forced to discontinue same. I have followed and applied all suggestions diligently and now that I have been forced to stop my radio-active treatments I feel as though the suggested procedure has been broken and that a check-physical reading will help to determine why my system will not respond to these treatments.

I would greatly appreciate an early check-physical reading which I think will help me.

R2. 9/7/44 [4037]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I will be at your study on Sept. 23rd at 3:30 P.M. for my check-physical reading which you have dated for me in your letter of July 25th, 1944.

You ask me for complete report of my physical case prior to my reading and the manner in which I have followed the suggestions given in my reading and the results which I will gladly tell you in the paragraphs below.

During the latter part of Oct. 1937 the first sign of my illness appeared. One morning when I first awoke my mouth and tongue were just like being on fire and this lasted for a day. A week later the same symptoms appeared but this time there was a slight tickle in my throat and right ear and this kept on for a few weeks until my throat felt as if it was on fire also. The feeling would come and go, lasting from minutes to hours and at broken intervals. When the symptoms would leave I felt perfectly normal. This kept on until I visited a doctor for the first time in my life, he painted my throat and from that time it began getting worse. Every attack that I had from then on was like someone pulling my throat apart, a depressed feeling, my muscles around my neck felt stiff, dizzy spells, throat like being on fire, yet my body felt perfectly healthy and I always had a good appetite. In the meantime I visited more doctors, one doctor operated on my throat several times, another gave me short-wave diathermy and violet ray. A famous, out of town, specialist told me that I had an irritated pharynx and it would go away in time by taking some injections. Now all this trouble was on the right side of my throat and after two years it moved from the right side to the left. Further examinations showed that I had a spasmodic condition in my stomach and was placed on a diet, yet I had no relief from my throat and had no pain in the stomach. During one period I was relieved for two months and it would start again, then relieved for four or five months but the trouble would start again. Until the summer of 1942 this trouble was the same and then all of a sudden the attacks stopped. I felt perfect for nine months and once in a while I had slight attacks but not enough to worry me because it felt as if this trouble was leaving for good. Then around March 1943 was when other symptoms began to appear. I had never felt anything wrong in my body during this throat ailment besides my throat. Then I began to feel weak in my legs and arms and very very tired. I also began to feel a slight burn in my bladder after urinating and this went on for several weeks. One day all of a sudden my bladder felt as if it was on fire and I could not sit down, yet I was too weak to stand up. I ran a fever of 104 for several days and lost 35 lbs in a short time. Examinations by a urologist showed that I had a growth or projection in the urethra which caused this and which is known as Verumontanum. I was treated for this and had some relief, but far from being well. Just before I started these treatments, the trouble in my throat started all over again, my arms and legs would feel very hot, like my blood was boiling, my joints would ache and my fingers were numb. This is my condition up until today, my throat bothers me occasionally, the trouble in the urethra and around the seat is still bothering me, my legs and arms feel weak especially my legs, my finger tips remain numb most of the time and I have a tight or burning sensation around my stomach which I will explain below.

I had not mentioned this burning or tight sensation around my stomach to anyone because I had so many things that were wrong with me that I was afraid people would think I was insane. On the day that I came to you I felt good with no symptoms except this feeling around my stomach. In your reading you mentioned trouble in my spleen which seems to be in that neighborhood.

Here is my report that I followed from my reading and the results.

I followed the suggestions as in my reading as closely as possible. At first when I began applying the Glyco-Thymoline and hot salt packs on the spleen area and the Radio-Active appliance, I did not notice any results. After a few treatments when I first applied the Glyco-Thymoline packs, I would become sleepy and would try to stay awake in order to apply the Radio-Active Appliance. After applying the Radio-Active Appliance for 15 or 20 minutes the sleepiness would wear off and would become very uneasy. During the last 10 minutes of the Radio-Active it seemed like it was working against me, my arms and legs would become very tired and aching. I tried this for 7 or 8 treatments and thinking that maybe something was wrong with the battery I returned it to Mr. Godfrey to check it. He made another battery for me. During the first few treatments with the new battery I did not notice a thing, but after the next treatments my legs and arms would get very tired and aching like the first battery. I took 48 of these treatments and felt that they were doing me more harm than good and discontinued them.

Here are the questions I would like to ask in my check-physical reading: 1. What trouble is there around and near the urethra and glands? 2. What trouble is there around my throat? 3. What trouble is there around my left lower ribs and stomach that causes tightness and burning? 4. What causes the numbness in my finger tips and tired, burning, and worn out feeling in my arms and legs?

Dear Mr. [4037]:

Due to Mr. Cayce’s continued illness we are unable to get your reading on October 13, 1944. In consideration for his health, Mr. Cayce will not return to work for some months. For this reason we are unable to offer you another appointment at this time. If you still wish to have a reading, let us hear from you in six to eight months, at which time your request will be given its proper consideration, in light of your previous contact with us.

In view of the above, we are returning your membership fee in the amount of [blank]. If you again apply for a reading, do not send the membership fee until three weeks before your appointment date.

It is our hope that you will keep in touch with us through subscribing to our Monthly Bulletin, which carries news of the Association activities and extracts from readings, or our Weekly Letter, which consists solely of extracts from the readings. We will send you either of these for six dollars a year or both for twelve dollars a year.
