This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 1st day of April, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [4044], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the article in Coronet.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. (Notes read to and transcribed by Jeanette Fitch.)]
Time of Reading Set bet. 10:30 to 11:30 A. M. Taken 11:30 to 11:40 A. M. Eastern War Time. Ashland, Pa.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Ashland - what a quaint place!
-
Yes, we have the body here. These, as we find, are progressive conditions, but these are the effects more of the lack of glandular activity, produced in the main by an injury to the pelvic area, or on the side of the buttocks. This has made the condition acute.
-
So we would find, in making the application for correction of the glandular disturbance, the lack of chemical balance should first be corrected by the correcting of the lesions formed through the pelvic area, especially in the ileum plexus and through the lumbar and even into the sacral and the 9th dorsal.
-
This might be done best by a naturopath, one who wold not only make some minor adjustments but stimulate the centers that are released by the massage.
-
Rather than the powder ordinarily used by the naturopath, use this combination of oils:
Olive Oil…2 ounces, Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Lanolin (melted)…1/4 ounce.
-
Shake these thoroughly and use in giving the massages or adjustments. Give these practically every day, or at least five to six times during a week and have at least eighteen to twenty-four such treatments.
-
Then begin to use the Wet Cell Appliance carrying gold in same; in the proportions of one grain Chloride of Gold Sodium to each ounce of distilled water, using at least three ounces.
-
The Appliance would be attached each day for thirty minutes, the larger plate through which the Gold Solution passes vibratorially would be attached to the umbilical and lacteal duct center - which would be the width of one finger from the naval center to the right and three fingers up from that point.
-
The small copper plate would be attached to the lumbar axis.
-
Each day following the Appliance treatment, give the body the massage with the oils; particularly over the limbs, the feet, the bursa of the feet, the muscular forces of the lower limbs and through the muscular forces of the ends of the nerves at knee, upper and lower portions, and also across the abdomen.
-
In the diet keep to those foods that are strengthening. Add the combinations of the B complex vitamins; as in the B-1, or those prepared by Miles Laboratories - One-A-Day B complex.
-
Leave off the Vaiavi and use the B complex, when you begin with the Appliance.
-
In the diet have a great deal of raw vegetables; keeping well balanced. Have a great deal of sea foods. Fresh water fish is not as well for the body, but the deep sea - Forty Fathom fish are well, also shell fish in their season.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should I discontinue all the treatments and the things that I am doing at present? (A) We would, if there would be gained the better conditions.
-
(Q) Is it harmful to try to do small duties around the house? (A) Not harmful. Keep in the open as much as possible. Not so much in the direct rays of sun, but in the sun at times.
-
(Q) Is it helpful to use a hot water bottle on the lower part of my back when I retire? (A) When the hot water is used, put on a Glyco-Thymoline Pack. This will ease the body much better and keep a balance through those areas. Yes, use the hot water bottle but do not use it over three to four thicknesses of cloth saturated with the Glyco-Thymoline.
-
(Q) What causes the night sweats which I suffer from very frequently? (A) Strain on the pelvic organs and the pelvic structural portions, that need correction first, you see.
-
(Q) What causes pus to form in the urine after sexual intercourse? (A) These are from the same conditions existent as indicated.
-
We are through with this reading.

Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce,
May the Father bless you and strengthen you and bring you happiness.
Please add this letter to the hundreds of others that you are receiving from people to whom you have given life and courage.
The recent reading that you gave for my wife has given us what no one else on this earth has been able to give - faith, courage, and hope for life. The revelation of Divine Power as shown through you has changed our whole life, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
If ever you or the Association need help - morally, financially, or otherwise we will give to our limit.
Sincerely yours, […]
R2. 4/25/44 EC’s letter:
Lt. […] Building 4, Navy Yard Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Dear Lt. […]
Thanks very much for yours of the 21st.
We are very glad to be sure, that you are pleased with the information as undertaken for Mrs. [4044].
All the praise is to Him, for we realize very thoroughly, of ourselves we are nothing. I am sure just as long as you and Mrs. [4044] can keep the attitude as expressed in yours of the 21st, and will use the suggestions indicated, you will get real results.
May your faith and hope be sufficient, and may His blessings be with you and yours.
Thanks, and with every good wish, I remain Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC/gm

FOURTH NAVAL DISTRICT DESTROYER ESCORT PRECOMMISSIONING DETAIL BUILDING NO. 4 Navy Yard, Philadelphia, (12), PA.
Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Thank you very much for your kind and inspiring response to my recent letter.
With reference to my wife’s reading, I should like to ask you a question. Do you advise that we wait until all or most of the naturopathic treatments have been given before beginning to use the Wet Cell or would it benefit her to use the Wet Cell after each naturopathic treatment - starting after six or eight have been given?
My wife is coming to Phila. for treatments by Dr. Thomas Lake and while she is here near me I could give her the Wet Cell treatments myself, if that is advisable.
Most gratefully yours,
R4. 5/13/44 EC’s letter:
Mr. […] Fourth Naval District Building No. 4, Navy Yard Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Dear Mr. […]
Thank you for yours of the ninth.
My interpretation, Mr. […], of the information is that after six or eight of the massage treatments, begin with the use of the wet cell appliance treatment, and then give the massage following the appliance treatment - rather than giving it before. For as I interpret the working of the appliance, you see, it is supposed to carry certain elements into the body; and if the massage is given right afterwards, it will be better distributed through the body. There is a lot to do.
Let me hear from you from time to time, and I trust that we will be the means of a real service.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R5. 6/28/44 [4044]‘s letter:
… Hotel Philadelphia, Pa.
Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Friend,
I had a physical reading April first. It was a little difficult for me to start the treatments you suggested because I was not able to find a good naturopath near Ashland, Pa. which is where I was living. You had mentioned Dr. Thomas Lake in Philadelphia as being very good so I finally came to Phila. and have been under his care since May 22. The reading said I should have five or six treatments a week till I’d had eighteen to twenty four. I have not been able to have more than three treatments a week. Up to the present time I have had fifteen treatments. Dr. Lake uses radio wave massage. I have had twenty one treatments with the Wet Cell. My husband uses that and gives me a body massage after each use of the cell with the combination of oils you mentioned. We use the cell every night.
Since being under these treatments my eyes have improved and also my hearing. I had had queer noises which seemed to be right behind my ear drum. These have entirely disappeared. My strength has not been increased, however. My right side which is by far the worst, seems slightly improved some days but others seems to be as bad as ever. On the whole I can’t say that I have anymore strength than I had before starting these treatments. I didn’t write to you sooner because I wanted to give the treatment a good chance.
I am wondering, Mr. Cayce, if you could give me a check reading sometime soon. I am anxious to know if your suggestions are being carried out properly. I have implicit faith in you and your work because I know as you have said, that it is God working through you and every good thing comes from Him.
I am thankful beyond words for the improvement in my sight and hearing and know that I shall be entirely well and strong again if your suggestions are carried out properly. If you can give me a check reading I will appreciate it more than I can tell you.
Sincerely, [4044]

Mrs. [4044] Philadelphia, Pa.
Dear Mrs. [4044]
Thank you for yours of the 28th.
I do hope that you will follow through with the suggestions as have been made for you.
Yes, I would take the full course of the treatments suggested. Have a period of rest for, at least, two weeks. Then another series of treatments, not quite so many. Then we will have the check reading. We are enclosing a blank for this.
Thank you a lot. Do let us hear from you from time to time and when you feel that you are ready for the check reading send us the blank and your questions and we will try to work it in.
May His blessings be with you.
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce EC/wi
R7. 8/29/44 [4044]‘s letter:
Englewood, N.J.
Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I am enclosing your letter of July 11th so you will understand my writing to you now. I have followed your instructions and have started in again on my treatments. So far I have had seven. Since coming to Englewood I have been fortunate in getting a treatment every day from the Naturopath. As I told you I was only able to get three a week in Phila. Dr. Verner, the Naturopath, is very good so I feel that I am now able to follow your instructions to the letter. I was disturbed at not being able to take more treatments in Phila. since the reading said five or six a week.
I should have explained first that my husband has been transferred from Phila. to New York and for the present we are staying at the above address. If we should move I shall notify you promptly.
You mentioned a blank to be filled out for the check reading. None was enclosed. Will you please send me one so I may fill it out and send it to you?
I am not any stronger, Mr. Cayce. In fact, during the time I didn’t take treatments I felt I lost ground. However, I may not have been following the suggestions correctly. If that is the case it was entirely unintentional as I tried to do exactly as you told me. I am anxious for the check reading to know just how things are coming along. I have every faith in you and your work, Mr. Cayce and know that eventually I shall be well again. Thank you for having given me hope. I am a new person because of that. May God bless you and His wonderful work.
My husband joins me in sending you our kindest regards.
Sincerely, Mrs. [4044]
R8. GD’s note to Jeanette Fitch and I. Mae Gimbert helping her in office: Second Physical blank with appointment date on it, explaining Mr. C. situation. (This is Multiple Sclerosis case, like [5108].) We want to help her all we can but at same time want to avoid burdening Mr. C. with Check Readings unless absolutely necessary. Might be interested in getting in touch with our member, Mrs. Wilfred Sechrist, 530 Broad Ave., Englewood, N.J.
R9. 9/5/44 GD’s letter:
ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH AND ENLIGHTENMENT, INC. Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mrs. [4044]
The enclosed notice [re. EC’s going away for a rest] will explain why there has been such a delay in advising you of the date of your new appointment.
The new appointment for your check physical reading has been set for April 24, 1945, between 10:30 and 11:30 A.M. Eastern War Time.
We sincerely hope that Mr. Cayce’s health will permit him to give this reading on the above date.
About three weeks before the above appointment date, let us have the exact address at which you will be during the hour set for your reading, allowing for any difference in time.
Without this information we cannot get your physical reading. (Be sure to set aside this hour as a quiet time for prayer and meditation, asking that “the very highest be the impelling influence through that one seeking to aid me now.”)
If you are on a rural route, give instructions for finding the house in which you will be staying during the hour set
- just as you would direct someone to drive to your house by car. Do not be riding in an automobile or on a train, or located in a bus station. Someone else by the same name may be on that train or in that bus station.
The best results will be obtained if this period is observed in quietly praying or meditating by yourself or with interested members of your family or friends.
In the mean time I suggest that you outline your treatments as given in your first reading, in a daily schedule which includes diet and activities, possibly allowing rest periods of a week or two between each series.
Thanking you for your patience and understanding, I am
Sincerely, Gladys Davis, Secretary [via IMG]

U.S.S. … F.P.O. New York, N.Y.
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Sir:
I have just read an article about you written by Margueritte Harmon Bro in “Coronet” Sept. 1943. This article may be the answer to a prayer, I don’t know. However, on the strength of it I feel I must write you and ask you if you will use the power God has given you in behalf of my wife.
She is ill with a nervous disease that has affected her spine. The doctors are apparently helpless to help her. I am worried sick and all that keeps me going is faith. This faith demands that I overlook nothing. If you feel that you can help us find a treatment, please do. I’ll gladly pay.
B2. 12/20/43 [4044]‘s letter:
…, Pa.
The Association for Research & Enlightenment, Inc. Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce,
My husband wrote to you some weeks ago after having read a magazine article about your wonderful work. I have been ill for the past five years and we have both prayed constantly for wisdom and guidance in finding help for me. I shall tell you as briefly as possible about my trouble.
My first trouble was with my kidneys. My right kidney is loose and for that reason it becomes infected. I went thru a lot of trying treatments but in spite of this my left kidney became infected also. At this same time I noticed that my right leg became tired after I walked a short distance. As time went on it became weaker and I discovered that my right hand was becoming weak also. Until now my both arms and legs are very weak and my back also. Sometimes I can scarcely hold up my head. No doctor has ever connected the weakness with the kidney trouble. I was finally sent to a neurologist who diagnosed the trouble as scattered sclerosis. Medical science not only knows absolutely nothing to do for the disease but does not know how to arrest it’s progress. So I am faced with the prospect of gradually becoming entirely helpless.
My husband and I both have faith in God’s wisdom and goodness. I have felt all along that as long as God is in his Heaven I have nothing to fear. That by constantly asking his aid I shall receive it. We both feel you are an answer to our prayers. God speaks through you and so helps us.
If it is possible for you to give me a reading on the information which I have given you I shall be very grateful. If there is anything I must do I shall be glad to do it. If you feel that I should read the material put out by The Association for Research and Enlightenment first I shall be glad to do that. But your work does not need to be explained or sold to me. Somehow I feel that I understand it. God speaks through you. You are an instrument in His hands. I have complete faith in you. I know you can help me.
I shall be glad to pay any fee. No mention has been made of it but I realize you have expenses and I want to contribute my share to help your wonderful work along.
Sincerely yours, [4044]
B3. 12/30/43 [4044]‘s husband’s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
It is with deep gratitude and a humble spirit that I thank you for the interview which you gave me yesterday.
I am enclosing the application blank and my check for $20.00. With it is my prayer for your health and happiness and for the success of the Association.
If you may find it possible to advance the date of my wife’s first reading from April 1, 1944, without harm to others who may need your help as much as she does, I beseech you to do so. Her condition is desperate.
In any event, know that I am grateful.
Sincerely, […] Lt.(jg) USNR

Mrs. [4044] …, Penna.
Dear Mrs. [4044]
I have yours of the 20th. Your husband was in to see me a few days ago and I believe we made an appointment for the first day of April. This I know must seem a long time off for you, for one who has suffered a long, long time. I wish it were possible for us to make this much earlier, but I discussed this with him at some length, and I hope that we can be in time to be the means of a real service. Am in hopes that before this, you have heard from your husband, and that we may indeed be the means of being of a real service.
Thanking you, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC/vw

Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I received your letter of the fifth and have taken some time in answering it because I wanted to give sufficient thought to the questions. I shall list them for you and hope that I have not asked too many.
Should I continue taking and using Viavi? I take ten drops of the liquid three times a day, use vaginal and rectal suppositories, and have my back massaged with the cerate once or twice a day. Stopped massage because of rash. I also take Lilly’s Lextron occasionally to build up my blood and sulpha thoasole to clear up infection in my kidneys.
Is it harmful to try to do small duties around the house? I become exhausted at the slightest thing I attempt to do but feel I must get some exercise. Is it helpful to use a hot water bottle on the lower part of my back when I retire? Is there any special diet which I should follow? Could the weakness have been caused by a fall I had in the bath tub several years ago? I struck the right buttock. What causes the night sweats which I suffer from very frequently? What causes pus to form in the urine after sexual intercourse? This has been happening for two years and no doctor has been able to give a satisfactory explanation or to do anything about it. What causes pain in my shoulders and my upper left arm also in the left side of my neck?

Dear Friends,
I have received your pamphlet on the study of the physical readings of Mr. Cayce and want to thank you for sending it. I have read and studied it and feel that it has helped me a lot. I shall continue to read and study it for a long time. It contains invaluable information. I have an appointment for a reading April first at ten thirty o’clock. I know that Mr. Cayce has been ill and I would like to know if he will be able to give me my reading at that time or if it will have to be postponed. If it will have to be postponed for very long would it be possible for you to send me a treatment for multiple sclerosis? The disease is advancing and I feel that if I don’t get help very soon I shall be helpless. Recently my sight and hearing have been affected. Naturally I want a reading and shall be glad to wait for it but if I can have the use of a treatment while I am waiting I am sure it would keep me from getting worse. It is frightening to feel oneself becoming more helpless as each day goes by.
I also want to thank you for sending a treatment for tuberculosis to my husband, Lt. […]. He asked Mr. Cayce for an emergency reading for his sister who was very ill and Mr. Cayce was ill and could not give it. The doctors decided that she had tuberculosis in an advanced form and my husband asked you for a treatment. You very kindly sent it but they changed their minds and said she didn’t have it. She died and it was found that she had cancer in her lungs, stomach, bowels and ovaries. We have the treatment and if you want me to return it I shall be glad to do so. Also I wish to pay you for it and for any you might send to me.
I sincerely hope that Mr. Cayce is well on the road to recovery. He holds out a hope to so many of us. He is the channel through which we can receive God’s help and we are sorely in need of it. God bless him and grant that he may be well very soon.
Sincerely, [4044]
