[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. (Notes read to and transcribed by Jeanette Fitch.)]
Time of Reading Set bet. 10:30 to 11:30 A. M. Taken 11:15 to 11:20 A. M. Eastern War Time.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, as we find, these are very disturbing conditions. There are those tendencies for inactivity of impulses from the central nervous system or cerebrospinal system. It is the beginning of deterioration. These general conditions deal with the whole entity - body, mind and soul.
-
We find that these may respond but much will depend upon the love, the care the consistency and persistency with which the attendant or nurse would care for the body.
-
There will be required the establishing of better coordination between the cerebrospinal and sympathetic nervous systems, when there has been an allaying or checking of the deterioration coming in the reflex reactions through the central nervous system. For these, in the present, are smoothing cells or indentations of the circulation in the reflexes of the brain.
-
There should be the gaining of the body’s confidence and the giving of a gentle massage daily with this combination of oils:
Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Olive Oil…2 ounces, Lanolin (melted)…1/4 ounce.
-
Massage these oils especially in the areas of the 4th lumbar and coccyx, 9th dorsal and through the upper dorsal and cervical areas.
-
For one hour each day just before the oil massage is given, use the low electrical vibrations of the Wet Cell Appliance carrying gold vibratorially into the system, so as to replenish the impulses to meet the emergencies for nerve reactions.
-
The Appliance would be regular strength, and the Gold Solution one grain Chloride of Gold Sodium to each ounce of distilled water.
-
The larger plate, through which the Gold Solution passes vibratorially to the body would be attached at the lacteal duct and umbilical center, or the width of two fingers from the navel center to the right and one finger up from that point.
-
The small copper plate would be attached at the lower portion of the 9th dorsal.
-
Do not begin this treatment unless there is the surety that it is to be carried on for several months.
-
Recharge the Appliance every thirty days. Change the Gold Solution every fifteen days.
-
If this will be done there will be gained greater periods of complete rationality in the body, and the activities will be greatly improved. But there will be required the attendance of someone in sympathy with these applications and one who may gain the full confidence of the body to make the applications.
-
This offers the greater opportunity.
-
Keep a normal balance in the diet. Plenty of sea foods should be included regularly, two or three times each week.
-
Keep good eliminations.
-
Keep the general activities in the open when practical.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should anything be done for the breaking out of the skin? (A) This will be reduced if the eliminations are increased.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/6/44 Daughter’s letter: ”…In regard to Mother’s reading, I am sorry to tell you that the treatment outlined has not been followed at all. Both Mother and Dad have shown very little interest in the reading. Mother has been returned to the State Hospital at … and her condition is very little improved. I wrote to the doctor in charge and later went to see him about the treatment suggested in the reading. He practically told me that I was losing my sanity to believe in such a thing. The reading specifically stated that the treatment should not be started unless it could be continued over a period of time and that much of the results would depend upon the love and care with which the treatment was administered. His opinion (the doctor’s) hasn’t shaken my faith in the reading one iota, but I have felt so helpless as to finding someone or some place where the treatment could be given. Mother, herself, doesn’t believe in it at all and begged me to have nothing to do with it. I persuaded my sister to come to the hospital and see Mother. I tried to get Dad to come, thinking that with the two of them together I could persuade them to look for another place for Mother where the treatment could be given. They don’t, however, seem to think it is worth trying. Would you have any suggestions?”
R2. 1/22/50 Daughter’s letter: ”…I can give you no specific information on the use of Mother’s reading. It was given to the hospital authorities with a request to use whatever information they considered helpful. It was received without particular enthusiasm by Mother’s doctor. However, Mother has been released from the hospital and is assuming increased responsibility. A different doctor was put in charge of her case so the reading may have helped more than we know…”
R3. 9/27/63 Daughter’s verbal report to GD: “Mother died about two years ago.”
Background
Background
B1. 2/24/44 Daughter’s letter: ”…Doctors call her sickness Manic Depressive insanity. She suffers with marked periods of depression, loss of weight, poor appetite, nervousness, breaking out of skin. She has been in an institution, has had medical doctors, psychiatrists and osteopaths. General hospitalization and the electric shock treatment resulted in some improvement. I am unable to give results of osteopathic treatments, since I have not seen her since these were begun. Mother says constantly that she doesn’t know what to do. Will you ask the question, ‘What she should do?’ In other words, an activity or hobby which she can study or follow. What can members of the family do to help her get well?”
B2. 2/15/44 Daughter’s letter: ”…In my first letter to the Ass’n I stated some information of Mother’s condition. At the time of her confinement to the State Hospital in …, the doctor in charge of the case stated that she was in need of both physical and mental treatment. Her illness was diagnosed as manic Depressive, chronic. Last September, she was paroled to my father and taken to … where she is now living. The doctor in charge said that although her case no longer required confinement, she was not completely well, neither physically nor mentally; but that confinement to a hospital would not be necessary unless she suffered a relapse. Her letters have lately indicated a slight improvement in mental outlook and she has gained some weight. However, she states that she doesn’t know ‘what to do.’ She has been in a hospital twice, for a period of approximately a week for physical treatment since going to … She is at the present time receiving treatments from an osteopath, but is at home with my father. I am still of the opinion that a reading would prove beneficial…”
B3. 3/4/44 Daughter’s letter: ”…I have sent the pamphlets to Dad and Mother, asking them to read them. I have received no comment except a letter from Mother stating that she thought the reading would be all right… I have written telling them that unless they are willing to cooperate by carrying out the suggestions given in the reading it would be a waste of your time to give it… I asked them to write you immediately giving the address at which Mother would be during the time set for her reading, if you do not receive this information will you cancel the reading so that the time may be used for someone who is desirous of help?”
