GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes, we are given the records here of that entity now known as or called [4065].
-
What a beautiful and exemplary life! Would that all peoples, all the daughters of men might look upon, might know, might experience in the earth, the peace which has been and is a part of this entity’s experience; that they might use their lives in bringing help to others, that they might be as gentle, as kind, as patient with others as this entity has been and is with others. There would be little that might be added to that peace and harmony known and experienced by this entity.
-
To be sure, there have been periods of anxiety, periods of disappointment; yet the entity, as of old, has learned, has gained that peace within self spoken of by Him, “My peace I leave with you - not as the world knows peace, but that peace which passeth understanding.”
-
As to the manner of application of self and that to which the entity may attain, little may be added. It is indicated that there has been a general growth in this experience in the earth.
-
Also it is indicated that there have been harmonious experiences through the sojourns in the earth. Happy indeed are those who may call this entity their friend, as the entity has applied itself in those ways of making a life more worthwhile, more in keeping with the ideal than most people. “As ye would that others should do to you, do ye even so to them” is a living experience for this entity.
-
As to the appearances in the earth, not all might be given but these from whence has come those periods of awakening in the present to the joy, the presence of the divine that may be had by those who make others their care, who make others their thought and purpose. For this has kept this experience in the earth of interest to the entity. But the entity has found joy, has found peace in applying self in those directions.
-
Before this the entity lived when the Master walked in the earth, knowing of and hearing of much of His teachings. The greater experience, which has been and is a part of the dreams and visions of the entity, was in those periods when great numbers were gathered and He disappeared through the crowds.
-
The entity was among those who heard the admonitions, who heard those things proclaimed by Him as to how He, in mercy, in grace, had overcome the world and how that it must indeed be that offenses come, but woe to those who would offend.
-
Thus it may be said of this entity that no one, no, not even a little one has been offended by the activities of this entity in this experience.
-
The name then was Martha, being of those peoples from Galilee, of Bethsaida, in the household of one Simeon.
-
Before that the entity was in the Holy Land among those of the household of the prophet Elijah?] - [See EC’s letter 5/4/55, 4065-1, Par. R6] during the period of Ahab’s and Jezebel’s rule in the land.
-
The entity then was the daughter of that prophet, in the name Adah. The entity knew trials, the entity knew the wrath of those surrounding the entity and those periods of turmoils and wickedness among those in high places. Yet the entity kept the faith through the period.
-
The entity was acquainted with the activities of Jehu and the entity’s sister.
-
The entity kept the faith and saw the fulfilling of the prophet’s words about Ahab, Jezebel and those people of the day.
-
Hence the prophecies as well as the promises throughout the Book have meant and do mean much to the entity.
-
Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land among those who aided in those periods just after the departure of the Priest.
-
The entity was acquainted with and knew of the activities of the associates and companions of the Priest, aiding in establishing the homes and households in which there was the doing away with the group activities of the state and the religious portions of same.
-
The name then was Iod-Bel.
-
As to the abilities, then:
-
Who may tell the lily to represent beauty? Who may tell the violet to blush, even in the shady dell? Who may tell the stars or the sun and moon to worship God. The entity has seen, has found those things that answer within. Would that all would do likewise.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What service should I render to the world in this incarnation? (A) Keep in that thought, in that purpose, in that way of aiding where and when the opportunity presents itself, by the kindnesses, by the encouraging and, as has ever been the principle, find the good and not the evil in the life of every individual.
-
(Q) Are the activities which I pursue in accordance with that service? (A) Read what has been accomplished and let it speak for itself deep within self.
-
(Q) How have I been associated in the past with young Dr. [5776], whom I helped to educate in the present for the medical profession? (A) In the Holy Land experience the entity saw him healed by the Master. Then counsel him as to his keeping close to the promises of the Master, Jesus. In the early Holy Land experience the entity saw him among those of the soldiery forced to do that which his whole being abhorred. [See Miss [4065]‘s report 5/1/44 [Par. R5] re: Dr. [5776], last paragraph of her letter.]
-
(Q) Is there any further obligation to him in this life, or perhaps a tie in this or some future life indicated? (A) None other than the counseling with him to keep his faith in the divine; using and applying that oft in the healing of the mind and the troubled soul of individuals as well as their physical disturbances.
-
(Q) Was there a debt to repay to him, which caused my interest in helping him? (A) A debt of kindness, the manifestation of that ye saw manifested in the man Jesus, who became the Christ.
-
(Q) Is it indicated that I will have many or a few more years in which to serve in this life? (A) It is indicated that there will be those in which the entity may accomplish much of that desired.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 4/10/44 [4065]‘s letter to EC:
“On August 3, 1943, you wrote me in reply to my letter to you of July 29 in which I inclosed a check on the Citizens & Southern Bank of … for twenty dollars ($20.00) for a life reading. In this letter of August 3, you gave me the date of April 3, 1944 as the earliest open date for a life reading. You confirmed this date in another letter of August 14, 1943.
“In accordance with your request dated August 14, 1943, I wrote to you again on March 19, 1944, reminding you of the date for the reading on April 3, 1944 at 3:30 P.M. and telling you that I would be at my home in meditation at that time.
“In response to my query as to eastern or war time, in that letter, I received a postal card telling me that you used eastern war time. So I am sure that you received my letter.
“Also on March 1, 1944, your office wrote me, inclosing a membership card stating that membership would expire one year from the date of the reading on April 3, 1944.
“All of this is assurance that your office had all the records of this date appointed for a life reading for me.
“This is April 10, 1944 and I have not received any word from your office concerning the life reading.
“Surely, a week is ample time to transcribe and mail the data, if you really did make a life reading for me.
“I sent the amount of $20.00 in good faith, seven months in advance and am very greatly disappointed that I have not received anything from you in the nature of a reading for me.
“If you did not intend to keep the appointment, surely, the least you could have done was to notify me.
“I am writing today, asking for an explanation, and just what you have in mind in regard to this definite appointment.
“Did you make the reading? If not, why did you lead me to think that you would do so, or why did you not say frankly that it would not be done?” Very truly yours, [4065]
R2. 4/13/44 EC’s letter to [4065]:
“I am just in receipt of yours of the 10th.
“I hope, Miss [4065], that you won’t grow impatient with us. Your reading has been given. It hasn’t been transcribed, but from what my wife and secretary have told me, it is one of the most beautiful readings we have ever given for anyone. It says more nice things than it has said about a person.
“We have been so over-run and our secretary has been ill, hence the delay in getting it transcribed. I assure you it will be transcribed just as soon as possible and will be forwarded to you.
“If, however, you feel that it is neglect on our part, please let us send your money back. It is not our intentions to mistreat anyone and we try to treat everyone just as nearly like we would like to be treated, as is possible. That conditions arise that cause us to be delayed at times, we can’t help, but I assure you I will be more than glad to return your money and pay you interest on it. If you can wait until we get it transcribed, we will be glad to send it, if you can’t, let us know and I will return your money…”
R3. 4/18/44 [4065]‘s letter to EC:
“Your letter of April 13, has just been received within the hour and I am hastening to say that I am more than sorry for the illness of your secretary and do hope that she will be completely restored as early as may be possible.
“I also wish to say, that I DO NOT wish the money returned to me but shall await the receipt of the reading when it is possible to transcribe it and send it to me.
“I am sorry for the expressed impatience in my letter of the 10th. As I said, it was a real disappointment, not to have heard since I had been anticipating your reading for so many months.
“It was most generous of you to tell me that the reading had been so favorable and I am really humiliated that I yielded to childish impulsiveness in writing as I did. Will you forgive me for that?
“Of course, I shall be eager to hear just as soon as you can have the reading transcribed but assure you that it is the reading I want - not the money. I, too, have been under stress these last months and was hoping that the reading would help me with some of the problems.
“With every good wish for the work of your association as well as the health of every one connected with it and especially for yourself and the secretary who is ill - I am…”
R4. 4/21/44 EC’s letter to [4065]:
“Thanks for yours of the 18th.
“I am in hopes that you have gotten the report of your reading before this. When you have had time to study it over, I would like to hear from you and know just what you think of it.
“I am mighty sorry that we were so late in getting it to you, but as I explained, it is owing to the great number of people we are trying to help, and the inability of the secretaries to keep up with the reading.
“Hoping to have been the means of a real help, I remain…”
R5. 5/1/44 [4065]‘s letter to EC:
“Thank you for the reading done for me which came about ten days ago. I was ill at the time and have been quite so since that time but am much improved now though not yet well by any means.
“I have also received your letter dated April 21 in which you asked that I write you what I thought of the reading.
“First, please let me ask that the address on envelopes be … St. Several times these figures have been changed to read… There is no such number and all of these letters to me have been delayed about five days in consequence. I understand how easily such mistakes occur but I am sure you have the correct address in your files. Thank you in advance for a little extra care in the future.
“I agree with your statement that the reading portrayed a beautiful character - so lovely in fact - that I felt amazement in reading and could only, in deep humility, whisper ‘Can that entity really be mine?’ ‘Is that how I appear to those who can truly see?’ It has left me, for all future earthly existence, even more humble than I had been before. I am not egotistical - have never been so but neither have I ever suffered from what is called an ‘inferiority complex’. I am intelligent enough to know true worth wherever I find it and I have been conscious of my abilities along intellectual lines - but wholly without conceit.
“Truth compels me to say also that the character you described is indeed the IDEAL which I always held before myself - but I never felt that I actually measured up to the standard set for myself.
“It was very striking that you should say of me that it ‘is a living experience for this entity. As ye would that others should do to you, do ye even so to them’ - for those words have always been my creed - and I have endeavored all my life to really live by that rule. But it is human to err and I am human, so when others censured me for actions they considered not the thing to do, I have felt that perhaps I had failed
- though in my own heart, I knew I had done the thing that seemed right - according to the light within my own consciousness.
“Jesus has indeed always been MASTER to me - and received the utmost love and devotion. I had often wondered in the past, what my reaction to Him would have been, had I lived during His appearance in Galilee. I wondered - could I have been among those who rejected Him and would not believe? I could think so, but neither could I really know - until now you have said that I did know and follow Him. Thank you for that.
“Having said thus much, you must know that I appreciate the reading.
“But candor also impels me to say that I wished the reading could have been much fuller. While very beautiful, it also was very general and I happen to be one of those people who like things very definite and explicit. So I wished that it had been more detailed.
“You mentioned the life as Adah - daughter of the prophet, during the reign of Ahaz and Jezebel. I am puzzled because, I do not know which prophet you mean. I have read the accounts in Kings and Chronicles - as indeed I have always been familiar with them. Did Elijah have such a daughter? For he was chief of those who gave unwelcome counsel to Ahaz and prophesied the end for him & Jezebel. Or do you mean Elisha - who received Elijah’s mantel and saw the fate of Jezebel? And Jehu - does that mean the prophet of that name or does it refer to the Captain of the guard in the palace who became king himself, being anointed by the prophet? And what relation was ‘the entity’s sister’ to this Jehu - whom you mention. Was she perhaps the wife of Jehu, reigning with him. And I wonder about the sort of ‘trials and the wrath’ mentioned in those times.
“I am reading all that portion of the Bible carefully again but that does not clear these questions. I am wondering if perhaps some of the notes of the reading could clear up these questions.
“The life in Egypt also puzzles me, because I cannot identify the period mentioned. You used the word ‘Priest’ but there was nothing to identify him. Could you have referred to Moses? But I never considered Moses a priest. Aaron held that office. And the period of the breaking up of state religion suggests something of Akenaton who instituted the worship of the Sun god Ra and whose hymns to the Sun were the originals from which many of the Psalms were translated.
“I am reading the books I have myself on the history of Egypt but I would like to be sure of the exact time period.
“Please do not consider any of these comments in the nature of complaints or criticism. I am merely seeking clearer and more definite understanding.
“I remember that in some of the early articles you sent down, you suggested study of the historical periods mentioned in the readings and that is what I am trying to do.
“As I understand the reading, I am just to continue the humble mode of life I lead, trying to do each day some service for others that comes in the daily living.
“Thank you again. If it is possible, I would like to hear from you again and if there should be something additional in the notes of the reading that would clear up the identities of the prophet and the priest & which Jehu was meant, I would greatly appreciate hearing.
“The statement in regard to Dr. [5776] as a soldier during the reign of Ahaz is startling - for one of his strongest characteristics is his antipathy for all military affairs. He WILL NOT have any part in war service - even as a physician. He is no coward - willing to be shot instead of serving in any capacity in regard to the war. Truly a conscientious objector to war in all forms. This is most impressive evidence of continuity…”
R6. 5/4/44 EC’s letter to [4065]:
“Thank you for yours of the 1st. Appreciate your taking the time to write. Am glad you are pleased with your reading. Such readings must necessarily be very general for it covers a period of some thousands of years, as the period spoken of in Egypt is supposed to have been some 10,500 years B.C. As I read the reference to the daughter of the prophet, believe it refers to Obadiah, who was the priest during the time of Ahab; if the name was written Ahaz, think it should have been Ahab.
“Wish had the chance to talk this over with you. You had better plan to come to the Congress in June and meet some of the other people who have gotten much from their readings.
“As to the reference to the Dr. [5776], might not the aversion arise from the happenings of that period? Could hardly be from one single experience do you think - merely as a suggestion - but think that might account for it. Also your interest in his welfare at this time.
“Any questions as may arise, don’t hesitate to write me; may not always be able to answer at once, but will be glad to try and help you get the most from your reading…”
R7. 6/3/44 [4065]‘s letter to EC:
“Have just finished reading the Bulletin May, 1944 which came in the last mail today, in which a new booklet is announced ‘Egypt in the Day of the High Priest Ra-Ta’. The list price was quoted as one dollar.
“I am inclosing that amount in currency for one copy of that booklet, which I would like to have forwarded to me at the address given in the heading, just as soon as you can get it in the mails.
“Since the reading you did for me on April 3, 1944, perhaps it will give me some of the information which I have been seeking as to the period of time in Egypt, when you saw me there taking part in the affairs of the state and the religious functions of the ‘High Priest’. I wrote to you, asking for further enlightenment as to the period meant. This may be the answer I sought.
“The first letter I wrote to you dated July 20, 1943, I asked if available copies were to be had of some of your earlier readings on Atlantis, Egyptian History, Arabian & Persian History, The Life of Jesus, The Great Pyramid of Gizeh, Study of Book of Revelations, Reincarnation, Angels and Archangels and the prices.
“You replied that they were out of print at that time but were being prepared for another printing and that I would be notified when they were ready. I have never received notice of them and am wondering if they can be obtained now. Will you please write me giving the prices and when I could get them? Not knowing the prices, I cannot inclose money for them now.
“Am interested in the outline of the program for the convention in June. It would be a pleasure to be among those present but that is not possible this year.
“Will there be a printed report of the lectures given? If so, what will be the price?
“Some organizations are holding conventions BY MAIL this year, because of travel restrictions and the lectures are sent to those registering for the convention. I am passing this idea along to you as one that might be found helpful to the many of us who cannot travel to the meeting.
“Am hoping it may be possible to have an early reply from you in regard to the publications mentioned above and also what the book of Egypt just being published may come along very soon.
“With best wishes for the success of the convention and for yourself personally I am…”
R8. 6/5/44 Answered by card. Order filled M. W.
Background
Background
B1. 7/29/43 [4065]‘s letter to EC:
“Thank you for your prompt reply to my former letter to you dated July 20, 1943. I received the booklet entitled EDGAR CAYCE, HIS LIFE AND WORK which I read with great interest. I had hoped that you would also inclose your typed explanations of Life Readings but this data was not included. Would you please be kind enough to send me a copy of this also?
“Inclosed you will find a cashier’s check upon the Citizens & Southern National Bank for twenty dollars ($20.00) together with my application for associate membership in your organization and for a life reading for myself.
“Just a few words as to my background and special position. I am not employed at a salary but manage my own apartment house in …, Georgia in which I live.
“My career in the world was that of a trained librarian, having served as librarian for several colleges and universities in the south. Other business interests caused my return to … in 1922 since which time I have managed my own property here.
“I am a member of several patriotic and cultural organizations here, Registrar of Daughters of 1812 in …, Gen. John Floyd Chapter; Historian of … Chapter D.A.R.; Historian of Sons & Daughters of Pilgrims of Georgia; Historian of … Ladies Memorial Association; Member of … Historical Society; formerly librarian of … Lodge of Theosophical Society (not now affiliated however) and members of other groups also.
“My life long study has been of religion, philosophy, science and a group of my friends meet in my home to study and read along these lines. I am also a student of astrology and numerology, and character analysis as shown by facial features and handwriting.
“I have led a busy life, much of it devoted to the effort to help others in various ways.
“The last two years have been unsatisfactory, I have felt that I was not accomplishing all that I should or that perhaps my time was consumed by matters that perhaps I should not give attention to and that other service was required of me. I would like to have these questions cleared up for me if possible. Just what service should I render now? What line of work should I follow? What studies should I pursue?
“Naturally I am keenly interested to know the facts of my former incarnations and the trends brought over from them. All of the information that could be given through you would be most welcome. It is not idle curiosity, I assure you.
“Hoping that the date of my reading by you will not be too far in the future (rather delayed I mean) and also that you may be able to send the description pamphlet ‘Life Readings’, I am…”
B2. 8/10/43 [4065]‘s letter to EC:
“Thank you for your letter of August 3, 1943 and also for the data in explanation of the content of your life readings, the latter reaching me yesterday.
“Please do cash the check and make the reading for me. I shall make every attempt to be alone in meditation on the afternoon of April 3, 1944, the period which you suggested as being the earliest open date.”
“Should a period earlier than that become available, of course I would greatly appreciate having the reading advanced and being notified accordingly.
“I am inclosing a clipping from the … Journal of July 20, 1943 which gives a few facts concerning me that a friend wrote and published. I hope you will not consider this action egotistical. I do so merely in order to give you some idea of my present way of life.
“I have read the data in regard to the life readings very carefully and the questions that I am most anxious to have answered are those that I mentioned in my last letter to you. They are:
“What line of work should I pursue now? I earn my living by managing my property in … in the capacity of manager of my small apartment house. Some features of this are irksome and the financial return barely equals the expenses incurred in renting the apartments.
“What sort of service should I render to the world at this time? Try to serve and help others by sharing some of my knowledge of philosophy, theosophy, astrology and numerology. Occasionally make numeroscopes upon request and in a few instances have accepted compensation for them. Is this legitimate? Have I done so in other lives?
“What line of study should I pursue?
“My library is filled with books on religion, philosophy, science, astrology, numerology, color, music, history, genealogy, etc.
“Most of all I would like to know, if possible, whether there will be many years remaining in this incarnation to render service. I am naturally happy, cheerful and so far as I know, in good health except very little reserve strength and vitality. It would not affect me adversely to know that my time was short. God’s will is what I wish.
“Thanking you for your attention and anticipating your bulletins and notice when booklets will be available on subjects mentioned in letter on July 20, 1943, I am…”
B3. 3/19/44 [4065]‘s letter to EC:
“On August 3, 1943, you wrote to me giving me an appointment for a life reading at 3:30 P.M. April 3, 1944.
“During the seven months that have passed I have anticipated this engagement with the deepest and sincerest interest.
“Recently I received a card for membership in the Association which will expire on April 3, 1945 - one year from the date of the reading.
“Today I am writing you that I shall be at my home here in … Georgia, in my apartment at … Apt. 2 and shall spend that hour in meditation, hoping to be in touch with you through the spirit.
“Will you please tell me whether you use eastern time, or eastern war time? [3/23/44 Sent card saying we have eastern war time. GD] … Uses only eastern time, now since we are really in the central time zone.
“I wish to know particularly what service I should render to the world in this incarnation and if the activities which I pursue are in accordance with this service.
“If not, just what line should I undertake?
“Will I have many or few more years in which to serve in this life?
“I gave you my birth date in my former letters to you but repeat for your convenience. Was born in Atlanta Georgia between five and five thirty o’clock in the morning of Saturday July 14, 1883.
“The reading itself, I assume, will give information in regard to former incarnations - which I desire especially to have.
“There is another question that I should like to have answered if it is possible to give. For many years I was very closely associated with a young man whom I helped to educate for the medical profession. For several years we have not been in touch with each other. I have wondered if perhaps I was repaying to him in this life some debt incurred in a former life? His name is Dr. […], of New York City, now, formerly a member of my household in … He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, January 6, 1902. I became interested in his case while he was a student at … University, where I was Librarian for many years. Was there a debt to repay to him? Did I repay it? Is there any further obligation to him, or will there be any tie in this life or some future life?…”
