This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of February, 1931, in accordance with request made by her mother.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. [4091]”s mother.]
Time of Reading 3:10 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [4091] - this we have had before. Now, we find - while there are apparent re-occurrence of conditions that have disturbed the body - the general physical conditions are much improved, and this re-occurrence is rather the retraction in the system - much as might be termed from the rebound or the back wash from the reactions setting in in the system; for the pressures and the causes being of long standing, with the corrections being made, with the various changes that are being accomplished, there may be expected at times those retractions or reactions in the system, until there is the full coordination FROM the removal of the pressures in coccyx, in the dorsal and cervical region. These will come from time to time, but farther and farther apart, with a form of greater or lesser degree of reaction.
-
Keep much as has been outlined for the body, making those corrections in the cervical, dorsal and coccyx region, and keeping those other properties for the system that have been given. We will find the improvements will be better and better, until we will have a normal condition. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What causes [4091] to have convulsions? (A) These come from pressures in the cerebro-spinal system, that prevent the coordination of nerve impulses to the brain centers themselves. It is as of too full a flow of impulse THROUGH the region in the gland at BASE of brain. It has much to do with, or from, those pressures in coccyx, lumbar and dorsal region. See?
-
(Q) Why does she have them usually at night during sleep? (A) This might BEST be given through those relationships of the ENTITY to the whole experience, but is as of a psychopathic effect on the imaginative forces of the body. At such a time it would be well were small quantities - three to five grains - of dry salt (iodized) placed on tongue, see? with a small drink of water with same.
-
(Q) Should Luminal be continued or increased during period of attacks? (A) We would find that if this can be REDUCED, rather than increased, and use more of the Mayblossom, this will reduce the attacks.
-
(Q) What is the cause of spinal lesions? (A) Nervous contraction from the whole system, and from injuries that have long existed in the body in its development.
-
(Q) What caused the injury? (A) As first given, the first injury was to the coccyx (apparently because the body sat down too hard), then sympathetically - as the body developed - those in the lumbar area developed next. Then sympathetically, as the development has progressed, in the other portions of system - see? They are partially sympathetic, partially structural position in body - see?
-
(Q) Should there be any change in diet? (A) The diet is very good. What we need is those corrections, and the activities to be such as to keep just as near an equilibrium as possible, or an equal balance in the physical and mental reactions of the body. The colonic irrigations will assist at periods when it has been necessary for sedatives to have been taken, see?
-
(Q) What causes the swelling of the face and body at times? (A) The non-eliminations, or the drainages of the whole system; for the contractions in body tend to REVERSE the circulatory forces, especially as to the capillary and lymph circulation. This produces something of that same condition that comes from an over quantity of (to some people, or some bodies) quinine, or any drug that prevents drainages in the lymph and the circulation as related to external portions of body.
-
(Q) Is present treatment being correctly administered? (A) Had it not been so we would have changed, and said change to this or that! As we find, these corrections are necessarily of slow progress, when these are of the STRUCTURAL nature - and while alleviation comes GRADUALLY, there must be a gradual GROWTH to meet the needs - for the body has attempted to adjust itself to abnormalities in the system, and as these are changed to normal conditions abnormal results must come occasionally, as retractions would - see?
-
(Q) What relationship do the convulsions have to menstrual periods? (A) The same as of a back flow, or suppression, has to an overtaxed mental body - see? When there is an overtaxing of the system, as from the general drainages in system - as occur at such periods - this overtaxation is directly to the nervous systems of the body, and makes for an easily unbalanced condition. Hence sedatives become poisonous, as do bromides at such times - which must sooner or later, unless alleviated, make for mental aberrations. Let’s keep from this; for the body and the mind of the body is capable and able to overcome these conditions. Making proper corrections, proper coordinations, proper balance in the system, we will have a normal reaction and bring much for itself - as for others. Do that.
-
(Q) Are menstrual periods normal? (A) Not normal always, for often there is an over abundance - as it were - as do the periods alter, according to the amount of excitement that the body may have under the varying conditions that affect same. These will become nearer normal as the corrections are made, and as the impulses through the nerve systems adjust themselves.
-
(Q) What causes chronic constipation? (A) Natural from the too full a capillary and too little an internal circulation. Hence the colonic irrigations, and the use of agar in those forms that will assist peristaltic movements, are well for the body.
-
(Q) How often should colonics be given? (A) Not closer than three to five days before menstrual periods, or later than five to ten days afterwards - which would make once or twice a month, dependent upon the changes or alterations, see?
-
(Q) Is anything wrong with the appendix or gall bladder? (A) Only sympathetically.
-
That is all the questions regarding this body.

We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. Walter Pahnke’s letter to [4091] [no date]:
Dear Miss [4091]:
I need your help in carrying out a research project in which I am engaged. I am examining the Edgar Cayce records in an attempt to determine common patterns in the forms of treatments recorded in certain diseases. I am trying to discover the practical value of these treatments in the cases for which the readings were given.
One of the diseases I am studying is epilepsy. I would appreciate a brief follow-up report from you on the results you got from your own personal reading. I would like to know
- if you thought the description in your reading fitted your case, 2) for how long and 3) to what extent you followed the treatment and 4) what results were obtained. Please be frank. If you thought the reading was inaccurate or if after an honest and careful trial you noted no improvement I would like to know this just as much as if you had a complete cure. Most important of all, are you still suffering from convulsions in any form? Also, what has been the exact medical diagnosis of your condition by doctors?
You may be certain that your answer and your original reading and correspondence will be kept strictly confidential in my analysis of the material.
Sincerely yours,
Walter N. Pahnke, M.D.
R2. Notes on EPILEPSY cases from the Edgar Cayce records made by Walter N. Pahnke, M.D. July, 1960 at A.R.E., Virginia Beach, Virginia
The following notes were taken on cases as read and are merely the opinion of the abstractor at the time he read the case plus the correspondence. The main value of these notes is that they give some indication of what the exact diagnosis in each case may or may not be.
Case [4091]. Given in 1930. 15 year old female. This case was classified in group 2. The fact that there were convulsions were revealed only in the questions in the reading. These convulsions seemed to come at night but there was no description of these convulsions. There are no follow-up reports.
