This psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 10th day of April, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [4099], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading Set bet. 10:30 to 11:30 A. M. Taken 10:50 to 11:00 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Calif.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes. As we find the incapacitating of the locomotories in this body has been produced by pressures created on the spinal nerve and the locomotory centers themselves.
-
It will require patience and persistence but, as we find, if there will be used the low electrical forces that will build nerve energies for the body and the use of a massage that will strengthen the abilities to supply energies to the nerve and muscular forces in the lumbar area and throughout the limbs we may gradually regain better use of the limbs. While this condition may not be wholly removed, the body should be able to be near to those activities in which it can control the whole locomotion; though the weakness through the areas where there were those injuries will last some time.
-
First have prepared the Wet Cell Appliance carrying the vibration of gold into the body, in the proportions of one grain to each ounce of distilled water.
-
The large plate through which the solution passes vibratorially would be attached to the umbilical and lacteal duct plexus. This will be the width of four fingers from the navel center to the right and four fingers up from that point.
-
The small copper plate would be attached to the lower portion of the 9th dorsal.
-
Make the attachments for thirty minutes each day. Every thirty days recharge the Appliance and change the Gold Solution. While the Solution will not have been taken from the bottle, there will be sufficient condensation as to cause the Solution to be insufficient to carry the proper amount of gold to the body-force. Thus change it.
-
Do keep the attachment plates very clean. Do take the connections from the solution when not in use. Do attach the connections to the Appliance and to the Solution about twenty minutes before the attachments are made to the body.
-
Each day following the use of the Appliance, give the body a thorough massage from the 9th dorsal to the toes and feet. Massage away from the body entirely, so that we carry the circulation in that direction. Massage all the body will absorb of the equal combination of Olive Oil (heated) and Tincture of Myrrh. Give this massage in a rotary motion, especially over the lower portion of the spine and the areas where the sciatic centers come down the limbs, especially around and under the knees, along the sciatic center, along the areas of the bursae of the feet and the calf of the leg or lower portion of the limb.
-
This will require several months but it will be worth it. We would keep active in what might be called the trade or piddling or that in which the body as it sits in its chair, or wheel chair, may work with for the time being. This will enable the body to do work along mechanical lines and in the repairing of various things of that nature in such a way as to be the gainer mentally, physically, spiritually.
-
Do keep the attitude creative. Know from what source all healing must come. For it is not of self, it is the practical use of elements of which the individual man is made and in which the constitution is lacking. These must be added. All power, all force is one source - the Creative Force or God. Without such there is little hope. In using these there is hope.
-
Do these things consistently and persistently, not as something just to be hurried through with but be persistent, be consistent and we will bring better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Any other suggestions that would enable me to support my family? (A) Do these and you’ll find support, trusting in Him and not in self. But use thyself, for you can do much work.
The massages may be given by the wife if this is preferable. This is preferable, provided the desires are a part of the experience of each. This is the better way, but don’t hurry through with it.
- We are through with this reading.

R1. 5/16/44 [4099]‘s letter:

Association for Research and Enlightenment, Incorporated Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Sirs:
I have your transcript of the reading that was supposed to be given to me at 1.30 to 2.30 E.W.T. on April 10th 1944. I forwarded this reading to the State Compensation Ins. fund of 450 McAllister St., San Francisco 1 Calif. which I am still under their supervision and they suggest and pay for what treatment I receive. I will now quote you the part of their letter dated May 12, 1944.
“For type of injury which you sustained, we do not feel that there would be any value in the treatment recommended by the Research and Enlightenment, Incorporated of Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Compensation law does not permit treatment of this kind”
I have this letter on file and if you doubt my word as to its contents I will gladly send same to you.
I have not contacted Mr. A. M. Godfrey …, Va. about the Wet Cell Appliance.
I do not feel that I could contact or apply this treatment while under the supervision of the Insurance fund so may have to forget it for a while unless I can make other arrangements.
I have been laid up for twelve years. I had the fourth fifth and sixth vertebrae, just between the shoulder dislocated and one crushed according to Xrays and they still are sore and give trouble. I have had several examinations and Xrays and none show any dislocations lower down. I also have trouble meeting payments for any equipment for these reasons.
- I am not working and earn no money.
- My wife does not believe in this type of treatment and as she works I do not feel justified in using her money to pay for equipment and treatment. I have tried to raise money several ways but no results but am still trying. I have tried to get work several times but with no results. I can do most any kind of work where I can sit at a bench and work but get the same answer from all. The Insurance laws, Union laws on my physical condition does not permit them to employ me.
I was wondering if the Wet Cell appliance could not be constructed by myself and this way I could save some money and be more able to pay for what I receive. I hope that I will be able to raise some money to pay for the reading.
I wish to thank you for all your kind efforts in my behalf.
Very truly yours, [4099]
R2. 5/23/44 EC’s ltr. to [4099]:
Mr. [4099] …, California
Dear Mr. [4099]
I have yours of the 16th and note what you have to say about the Compensation Board and the information given in your reading.
Of course, you realize that Compensation Boards do not recognize anything except physicians. Whether you will be able to persuade the physician you are sent to to use any of the suggestions made in the reading I don’t know. Some do listen, others tell you you are very foolish and that you are throwing away your money.
If we can help in any way, we are very glad to do it. But if you wish to drop the matter, we will return the membership fee. However, these are things you will have to decide in your own mind. I am sure that twelve years should give you a very good idea as to what to look for, but if you have no co-operation at home it might be best to send it back to us and let us return your money. [No money was sent.]
Thank you, though, and hoping that you will, indeed, soon be much better, I am with every good wish,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC/wi

Dear Sir:
I have read about your helping people that are in the need of help.
I would like to know if you could help me and what the cost would be.
I am married have three children, 44 years old and have been laid up in a wheel chair for ten years and am very anxious to get on to my feet again and do my part and carry my load in this world and the next. If there is any information about myself you wish and if you can help me please let me know.
Yours truly, [4099]
B2. 11/8/43 [4099]‘s letter:
Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Sirs:
I received your booklet on the life and work of Edgar Cayce and have read it over but there are several doubts and questions in my mind.
I have doctored with Doctors, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Masseurs, Healers and Scientists and all of them were after the money and I received very little benefit from any except the Healer and he did help me.
I would gladly pay five times the fee you charge if I could get on my feet and to work to earn money and be able to go hunting and fishing with my family.
I have paid out so much to get well with no results so I hesitate to pay out any more for something that does not promise me any type of help or encouragement.
I have a wife and three children and feel that any money that I spend on myself with no results is taking it away from them and it is not right to do it and in the mean time debts are piling up against me and if I don’t get well soon I will have to take other means and let my family collect my insurance and pay the debts.
I would gladly put the twenty dollars ($20) in escrow in the bank or any other amount for readings and to be paid to you if I received any help personally through the reading or through a Doctor or some other means, all I want is to get well.
I have been in a wheel chair for ten years (10) from an injury and it is very discouraging to see, things that need to be done and not able to do anything about it.
I have not been able to get a copy of the book (There is a River). Who wrote it and who publishes it?
Yours truly, [4099]

Mr. [4099] …, Calif.
Dear Mr. [4099]
Please pardon me for not answering your letter of November 8 sooner. We have just had more appeals for help than we could take care of immediately.
Mr. [4099], we would be glad to try and be of help to you, but must have your application blank. Not necessarily the money right now, but must have the blank before we could make an appointment for you. And we are 9 to 12 months in advance with the appointments made right today.
“There Is a River,” is written by Thomas Sugrue, and published by Henry Holt and Company. We are sending you notice of same with this letter.
Do let me hear from you, and know that if there is anything I can do to help, I will be glad to do it.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC/c
B4. 2/3/44 [4099]‘s letter:
Association for Research and Enlightenment, Incorporated Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Sirs:
I am hereby making an application for a physical reading from Mr. Edgar Cayce. I have no idea that I will ever get the reading or any benefit from same and to send the money would only be a waste and that to put it in a bank would eventually do one of my children some good. As stated in Mr. Cayce’s letter of December 23, 1943, that he has appointments made up to 9 to 12 months in advance then there would be no possible chance for me to get a reading if I sent the money before April as after April what happens to me will be my own concern as I am now trying to hold on until then so I can get all my business settled.
Yours truly, [4099]

Mr. [4099]
Dear Mr. [4099]
I have yours of the third enclosing the application for membership and note what you have to say regarding your reading. Of course, if you doubt it, I doubt it, too; but I am giving you an appointment for the morning of April 10 from 10:30 to 11:30 EWT.
I am trying to work this in for you as an emergency reading. If you accept this period, be sure to let us know exactly where you will be at that hour.
Make a list of questions that you would like to have asked at the time of the reading, also keep the period in prayerful meditation.
Trusting that we may be of a real service, I am,
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce

Dear Mr. Cayce
I have your letter of Feb. 18th at hand and note that you gave me an Emergency appointment for April 10th from 10.30 to 11.30 E.W.T. which will make it from 1.30 to 2.30 P.W.T. here. This day and time will be satisfactory to me but I did not expect you to give me any time as I did not send you any money and expressed a doubt in your ability to help me. Since you have given me the appointment I feel that you feel there is a good chance that you will be able to be of some help to me for which I thank you very much. On the above date and time mentioned I will be here at home and will make it a point to be in the house where it is quiet and as far as I know now I will be alone as I am alone every day from 8.30 A.M. in the morning until 4 P.M.
I will not be able to send any money now but hope to some day as I am fixing up some bicycles with a neighbor boy and we are going to sell them and this way I expect to raise enough money to reimburse you for your services. I have been confined to a wheel chair for the past 12 years and have not been able to earn any money. The pensions I get from the Insurance Company use to just pay the expenses of the household before the war but since that it is not enough so my wife had to go to work and she works hard and is putting 20% of her wages into bonds so she will have something for a future day and I do not feel right in taking any money from her hard earned wages and as she does not have much faith in Doctors, Chiropractors, religious healers and several others that we went in debt to trying to find one that would help me so maybe you can see why I have had a doubt as to your ability to help me as I have thrown away good money for no good and the family has suffered from it. I will list a few questions that I would like asked at the said above date and time:
- Will I ever completely recover from my injury if so when?
- Is there any type of treatment that will help me recover if so by whom should the treatment be given?
- Will I recover enough to go back to my same type of work [as a mechanic] or should I enter a new type of work and and if so what type of new work should I study for?
- Is there any other suggestions that you can make that will help me help myself get well and able to earn the living for my family.
Yours sincerely, [4099] …, Calif.
