GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [417], present in this room, and his business associations and relations - …, L.I., N.Y. and all associates and employees of same. You will answer the questions we will ask you regarding the health of [417] and regarding his business and financial relations.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [417] - and those associations physical, those relations and surroundings as regarding individuals’ associations and relations, business connections and conditions. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Why do legs feel heavy at times? What should be done to remedy same? (A) This is produced by impaired circulation through the lower extremities, produced by pressure existent in lower dorsal and lumbars. This may be aided materially by the right character of exercise, and by the keeping of eliminations as respecting the alimentary canal; exercise being such as takes the blood from upper portion of body, distributing same through the lower portion, taking time to take specific exercises of stooping, bending, and circular motions of mornings of the lower limbs, and then keeping up eliminations. This will correct condition.
-
(Q) What cause the needle pains through side at times? What remedy? (A) Emptying the colon and alimentary canal, this will relieve same. This is produced by slowing up of circulation through this portion of system.
-
(Q) What laxative should body use? (A) The exercise will be the greater laxative to use. The specific as for medicinal properties, a combination of oil, Phenolax and of soda, these taken alternately, will be the most beneficial.
-
(Q) What is the condition of the eyes? and what should be done for them? (A) There should be some local treatments for the inflammation in the socket or portion of the eye itself; also some correction in the lens of glasses as used by the body. The best stimuli will be an exercise of a circular motion, and of the bending forward, backward and side, of head - this taken every morning.
-
(Q) What treatment should the body follow to keep physically fit? (A) Plenty of exercise in the open, and do not overeat.
-
(Q) Regarding the business: Would it be advisable to move dress business to a more expensive location? (A) No. While there are conditions as would be made bettered in many ways by removal, yet - as we find - under the circumstances, conditions as surround every phase of business, this may be made the more profitable in the present location. While there are not sufficient quarters for some of that as is contemplated or desired, this may be worked more satisfactorily by having outside work done, rather than the expense of the higher rate of rent and then the necessity of making every other condition and surrounding to conform TO the new surroundings. It makes too great an outlay for the present conditions.
-
(Q) Would it be advisable at this time to add additional line to this business? (A) Those as are being used at present, as we find, may be made the most profitable; though there may be those of the kindred associate lines added as conditions and circumstances warrant. In this respect, this means those that enable the individuals to meet the various competitive influences as related to the character of merchandise, etc., THESE may be added in their proper order, not making an outlay so prohibitive as to endanger or to make for too great an expanse at once. Grow WITH the conditions as they expand. We will find that while conditions have not been as satisfactory as has been desired, these will be bettered in the coming seasons.
-
(Q) Should it be a cheaper line? (A) No.
-
(Q) What is the outlook for this business during the coming year? (A) Just as given.
-
(Q) What other suggestion for the betterment of this business? (A) These, as outlined, will make for - as we find - bettered conditions for this business. Follow those for the present. Honest merchandise, at honest prices, handled in a manner as to make for the most pleasant associations. Be mindful that there is not too much extended credit in the various positions and places in centers where questionable conditions have arisen, yet do not be too hardboiled with many of the circumstances as arise. Know the individuals, and that most business and business relations are builded on the personality of the individuals, as well as the personality of the product itself.
-
(Q) Will shoe business run until expiration of lease, or will ninety day lease be executed? (A) As we find, with the many changes as are coming about in this particular location, there will be some talk of some consideration of the taking of the ninety day clause; yet with the proper relationships being established between the leasor and leasee, we will find these may be made to run and to hold for the whole period. It WOULD be WELL to safeguard self in the manner as has been contemplated, in the same - or near same - vicinity.
-
(Q) Would it be as profitable to lease another store? (A) It isn’t, under the clause, the question of as profitable - but rather the question of making same at all reasonable. Hence the safeguarding of self, even if the clause is NOT used, see for this WILL be a profitable business; yet the conditions as surrounding makes for some uneasiness, AGAIN personality and courtesy shows for the success of same.
-
(Q) Are employees associated with shoe business sincere and honest with their work and handling of business money? (A) As a whole. This would be, necessarily, more of an individual consideration, yet the associations as connected with same may be kept very sincere, honest, honorable, and in every respect a BENEFIT to the association and organization. This may be done best by that as is often given; one that would be dependent upon another must show self DEPENDABLE; one that would have friends must show self friendly; one that would have honesty and sincerity shown self must be honest and sincere with each individual in its respective ABILITY. Don’t demand of those that which is out of one’s sphere, but demand that each show self worthy of the consideration and trust as is given to each, and SHOWN by self in each.
-
(Q) What further suggestion for the assurance of income to make it possible for body to develop mental and physical condition of son, [758], and to be able financially to keep him at Cayce Hospital until same is accomplished? (A) Keep self in accord with that as is known in self to be that as is desired for the accomplishing of same; for the USE of the talents or abilities - in business, social, financial, or spiritual relations - BUILDS that NECESSARY for the accomplishing of that desired. Being faithful in that thou hast, and in the use of that as is in thine keeping, makes for the fulfilling of that desired.

We are through.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/22/30 “I never was more determined to make money, and when the time comes Edgar Cayce can have it to carry on his work.”
R2. 10/22/30 Mr. [417] wrote that his wife, [1192], had written him of what has happening at Cayce Hospital, and he hoped to make money to help EC carry on the work.
R3. 10/24/30 EC’s reply: “I’m just in receipt of yours of the 22nd. I appreciate your letter more than I know how to tell you. I only wish that I could talk matters over with you. There’s nothing I know that anyone can do right at present. I don’t know just what will be the outcome of this. If the work is what we feel it is, it must succeed - even though it passes through the trial as by fire. If it isn’t right, it has no place - for I know, if I know myself, I only want to do the right and proper thing, and as I have my own self received such wonderful gifts through these channels, I can only hope that I may be able to help others in a like manner. I trust that I can so conduct my own life that the sources may find me a channel that may be used in service to my fellow man.
“Mrs. [1192] and [758] are fine. Mrs. [1192] has been just as sweet and nice as anyone could. I told her just a few minutes ago that I appreciated it. Thank you.
“All are pretty well. I’m the only one under the weather, but it’s just - HURT.
“Love from all.”
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC:GD]
R4. 10/25/30 Mr. [417]‘s letter: “Edgar, I wish that you would stop for one minute and review how many hard times you have had trying to do the right things, and just when everything was all wrong something happened to make it right. I can only feel that the work you are doing is far too important in God’s eyes to be cast aside, and with the help of God it will be carried on. I, too, feel as you do, like a man whose hands and feet are tied with something he would like to do. There is no doubt in my mind that somehow, somewhere, we will untangle this mess.”
R5. 10/27/30 He referred Mr. [5609] and Mrs. [5610] for rdgs.
