This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office in Pinewood on Lake Drive, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of March, 1932.

1. GC: You will have before you the information which has been given through these sources regarding Charles Augustes Lindbergh, Jr., and the individuals who have sought to carry out this information in locating the body. You will please locate the body at this time, March 17, 1932, and answer the questions as I ask them regarding same.

2. EC: Yes, we have the information as has been given regarding Charles Augustus Lindbergh, Jr. Now, as we find, changes have been made in the location of the body. The body now, as we find, is in Jersey City, taken this morning - early - car - New York - license 2M 217.

3. In locating the PRESENT location, we would find from the terminal, or broad street, we would turn at the bank - which turns directly to the right. This bitulithic or hard surface street, down three - four - blocks. Turn right, down hill, see? to a gravel or rough street. Turn right again. Unpainted house, yet VERY well located for the section. Some peoples surrounding same have changed. Madge no longer with the body. The body not so well.

4. There is, as we find, an attempt to communicate with some of those that are in authority, concerning the whereabouts. Not of the police, not of the higher gangster, but rather to the direct is there being sought. This, as we find, should be reached, or would reach the communicating lines, by early afternoon; as to where from, through whom, not yet fully determined. We would look there. Ready for questions.

5. (Q) What is the name of the street on which you turn from Broad? (A) Seems to be more numbered than named. There are many streets, but this turns at the bank - as there’s only one bank with sign on same.

6. (Q) What is the sign on the bank? (A) Clock. Jersey City Trust - guaranty Trust - 10:58, by the clock.

7. (Q) You turn right off of Broad, at the corner of this bank? (A) Turn right; that is, coming from - towards - the viaduct way, turn right.

8. (Q) Is there any number on the house where the body is? (A) Sixty-three (63).

9. (Q) What is the name or number of the street that you turn off of the macadam street? (A) It’s three streets up from this bus terminal - goes down a hill - one little alley way, and then to this dirt street.

10. We are through for the present.

R4. 3/26/32 David E. Kahn’s letter: ”…Now for Lindberg! You know we found Adams street - when no one ever heard of it. The city engineer only named it 2 weeks before. We found the Red clay and could go no further. It seems they found a 2nd car and it seems they believed the baby was in Jersey - now it’s Norfolk. They wanted you in New York but wouldn’t pay for it. Why should they (the major) expects me to pay all expenses. I paid over 200 for our trips hoping it would bring you 10,000 and they - the baby - I may write you again on this. I’m not through - only waiting. I hope you answered the 2 questions on it. Had you been here I feel we’d have been successful - long distance telephone made success impossible! The Good Lord’s will be done! We will see before they do find the baby, I feel you’ll be into it again… Back to New Haven - I could not find “Cardova” or Schatter Street - no factories making leather but I believe had you been there we could have found out…”

R5. 3/31/32 EC’s letter to David E. Kahn: “Regarding the information for Lamphier, of course, most of us here have not understood why it couldn’t have been followed closer - but, as you say, it is a very hard thing to get anyone enthused over something they know nothing about, and when there is the least thing that doesn’t check immediately they think, “Oh, well, it’s like many of the other thousands we have heard about.” We believe it has been different, though, and is yet. Did you see or hear anything of the information after there had been the move? I do not know whether there is anything in the reports of activities here or not. Many believe there is nothing to it, and there are plenty who believe there’s a great deal. Our last information that was obtained on anything of this sort would indicate that they had taken to the water, and no doubt it is not in this immediate vicinity - but quite a bit farther south. I’m just hoping it will work out in such a way that the parents may be relieved of that uncertainty and anxiety, which has certainly been theirs for the last thirty days. The Lord knows what is best. The trouble with most of us, we try to tell Him HOW we want to do things, as well as WHAT we want to do, when His service by us may be in quite a different direction. We are not willing to be channels. We want to be the whole river, or the ocean.”

R7. 4/11/32 Mildred M. Davis’ letter:

Major Thomas G. Lamphier, 400 E. 52nd St., Apt. 12-B, New York City

Dear Major Lamphier:

Almost one month has elapsed since we have had any communication from you regarding our attempt at trying to solve the great problem which confronts the world today. We are in the dark as to just how far this information was followed out and the findings on same. From the newspapers we gather it is as great a mystery as ever.

Now, Major Lamphier, we are not seeking fame or fortune for ourselves - that is the least of our aim in trying to be of help. However, we have great faith in the sources from which this information comes and we believe that if this is followed out carefully that results will be obtained, for we have seen this happen in so many, many cases.

Would it be possible for you to interest the Colonel in approaching the work direct? We believe it would be much more effective this way. It is our great desire to be of service, if possible. You understand that we do not want to appear too forward about this, but we know that if this is gone about in the right way that the mystery will be cleared up and everybody will be happy again! Inclosed are application forms for your use should those most deeply interested in the return of the little one desire to make the approach direct.

Also inclosed is your membership card in the Association. We are very glad to have you as a member of our organization and trust that we may be of some service to you.

Will you please let us hear from you in the near future? We are eagerly and anxiously waiting to do all in our power to be of aid - believe us!

R8. 4/14/32 Grove Seely’s letter to David E. Kahn:

YALE UNIVERSITY

Mr. dear Mr. Kahn:

Hope you didn’t mind my telling Mr. Francis about our information concerning the baby. He is quite a nice fellow, also clever and discreet.

During our vacation of one week (I went to Asheville) he worked on the information I was able to remember and give to him. It is quite possible you, the Major, and I were on the street to which he has called my attention but I do think there are some things there that we did not observe. Mr. Francis and I were out there today and I must say I am more encouraged now than ever before. The crude map I have enclosed may help you to see the theoretical point of view I now hold.

New Haven is an old town and thus has not so many rows of identical houses as most cities, such as Baltimore. You will agree with me it is difficult to locate any here at all. On this Willis St. there are exactly fourteen and they are absolutely identical. You will notice Sherman Avenue crosses Willis St. so that directly across the avenue (and on the avenue) is No. 73. This is on a glass number plate. In view of the vagueness of all our information it is possible Mr. Cayce meant 73 instead of 473.

Now about the house itself. It is a large house intended for two families. Unfortunately it is battleship gray in color. However, the paint looks new.

One-half of it is occupied according to the City Directory, by a BELDON family. One son of this family is a garage mechanic. A daughter is named MARY BELDON. The name MADGE BELIANCE could possibly be hooked up with this since both first names start with “M” and both last names with “B”. The other half of the house is advertised for rent but there is someone staying there because we saw a child at the rear window. This child was about two or three years old and had dark hair. There was a woman in the yard with two other children of the same age, one of which was quite blond. It seems to me quite logical that anyone who attempted to keep a kidnapped child in custody would do well to have other children about to avoid suspicion.

The third house further down is the residence of a GEORGE JOHNSON. It is perhaps permissible to speculate that he could be related to the Johnson in Hartford whom you will recall as being a friend of Betty Gow.

Sherman Avenue is most interesting to us. It is positively the shortest route one could take from 73 Willis Street to New York City. One of the street signs for the Avenue is badly blurred and would on first glance be quite indistinct if the observer was not aware it is supposed to say “Sherman Avenue”. My theory is the words “Scharter” and “Sherman”

were confused by Mr. Cayce. Though some little distance, No. 73 Willis Street, is only about three blocks from the intersection of Adams St. and Crescent St.

I must close now. You realize how hard it is even to tell this information to someone so please pardon my poorly written description.

If you think it worthwhile, and I certainly do, please come up here as soon as you can.

P.S. We found no goats and have as yet been unable to locate Madge Beliance through post office contacts.

PPS. A woman detective operator with a small child could easily get lodging near there. The child would be a good means of contact as it would be possible for the children to meet.

I also forgot to remind you that this entire district is in the vicinity of the Winchester Arms Co. and is a factory district. The house is a double house and we have reason to believe it is divided into four separate apartments.

Believe me I would not trouble you with all these details were it not that I think that our theory fits in with most of the facts and is at odds with comparatively fewer discrepancies. Please come up if you can and if you are unable show this letter to Major Lamphier because I believe we have must more to work on than we did a month ago. Please remember to give my best regards to the Major.

R10. 4/21/32 David E. Kahn’s letter: “I had a long letter from Grove Seely today [enclosing copy. See Par. R8, above]. I’m sure we were on the right track of the baby, but it’s difficult to work over the telephone as you know. I still believe you can solve it.”

R11. 4/27/32 EC’s letter to DEK: ”…I certainly do thank you for having Miss Sidelman send me a copy of the letter from Mr. Seely. I am more and more of the opinion that we were on the right track, and I think he is convinced we were. I hope that some means may open up, whether through anything we may do or not, whereby the parents will have their little one restored to them. As time goes on, it looks more and more doubtful. So many angles have gotten into it that I just wonder…”

R12. 6/18/32 EC’s letter to Mrs. [310]: ”…There were some questions asked concerning the Lindbergh baby. This was only a few days after the kidnapping. Our opinion is that the death of the baby occurred between the 16th and 19th of March, though we have no way of proving this. Of course, we had no connection whatever with the Norfolk group that proved so disheartening. Such things certainly tend to make us lose confidence in our fellow man, and everything else…”
