This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 26th day of January, 1927, in accordance with request made by self, and also her mother - Mrs. [4235].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 4:40 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Florida.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time. You will diagnose the case thoroughly, giving the cause of the existing conditions; also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body.
-
EC: Yes. Now we find, while the physical forces of the body are very low in many respects - and the resistance in the physical functioning of many organs are very much depleted - yet, were those conditions as may be given for the relief of this body carried out in the systematic, consistent, and persistent manner, there may be much relief, and eventually a nearer normal condition brought to this body.
-
These, then, are the conditions as we find them in the physical organisms and in the functioning of same in this body.
-
THE BLOOD FORCES are very low, produced by the inability of the blood stream proper to combat with conditions, when it comes to producing coagulation in the system. Hence it will be necessary to so stimulate this reaction in same as to bring more vitality, more vitamins, more units of strength, more units of heat to the body, to meet the resistance in the system.
-
IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, we find this very lax in many places, and in many centers and different ganglions. The adjustments are, and have been, very beneficial to the body. These should be kept in this way and manner - for, with the existent condition as is seen through the eliminations, and through the assimilations of the body, as well as the centers wherein the blood supply to the various organs as govern these need this stimulation as is necessary through this to bring about the proper reaction to the body.
-
IN THE ORGANS THEMSELVES, many of these are under that stress of being in a way and manner hindered by existent conditions as exist through same.
-
As is seen in the pulmonaries, in the lungs proper - in the throat and in the nasal cavities, or in all of those centers wherein the supply of the mucus or the serum - or that portion that produces the blood supply that meets the ravages of the body, or is necessary to destroy those portions of system as used tissue - these all show the effects of the condition as existent.
-
In the digestive system, liver and kidneys, especially, does the effect of this need stimulation, so that these may not break down under the strain as is produced on the system by absorption, and by the system attempting to eliminate so much used matter in the system - for, were either of these organs in their cooperative energy of elimination to become choked or clogged, we may expect disintegration!
-
To meet the needs, then, in the conditions at the present time:
-
We would have just as much rest as possible - physical rest; and build the body tissue as fast, or as numerous, as is possible.
-
Using these with those manipulations as keep the stimulation in the body.
-
Well that inhalations be taken as often as coughing or any disturbance in the nasal cavities show - for, as we see, there is the sign of the germ from congestion and from the condition as was produced by the injection into the system of those things that brought about too many of that of the germ that produces tubercular conditions in portions of the body. These inhalations should be as of THIS, for the nasal and for the throat both:
To four (4) ounces of pure grain alcohol, we would add:
Eucalyptol…40 minims, Benzol - OR Creosote Rectified Creosote (if that used)…5 minims, If Benzol is used…20 minims, Benzoin…10 minims, Balsam of Fir…5 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp…15 minims, Tolu, Tincture of (in solution)…50 minims.
Keep this in a glass container at least three (3) times the size of the quantity - that is, ten to twelve (10 to 12) ounce glass container, with a glass stopper also. Shake solution well together before it is inhaled. This, preferably, should be inhaled through the nostrils, see? or in the throat, whenever coughing occurs.
-
Inhale also - at least twice each day - the gas as will be produced in a charred container of pure apple brandy. A gallon and a half to a three gallon charred container. This corked tight, yet an opening or vent made, so that the gas as formed by this evaporation may be inhaled. This being kept close to heat and corked except when it is inhaled through a tube into the lungs - deep, see? Beginning with only one or two (1 or 2) inhalations (then keep corked tight), but increasing as the body can stand this - for, as we see, this breathed into the lungs will bring, as it were, intoxication to the blood stream - which is necessary, if we should meet the needs of the conditions.
-
Take at least every third (3rd) day one (1) capsule containing this:
Eucalyptol…1 minim, Oil of Turp…1 minim, Balsam of Fir…1 minim, Heroin…1/60 grain, see?
-
This will relieve pain, and will also relieve the temperature that forms at times in the system.
-
Keep, when necessary, over the impacts as form in lower portion of the system, warm flannels wrung out of pure Castor Oil, see? This may be over the abdomen and the lower portion of the body.
-
It would also be well if kept across the chest and across the throat those properties as would be found in a mixture of turpentine, camphor, and coal oil - equal parts, so as to wet a cloth - preferably of flannel, and this wrung as near dry as possible, warmed and placed over the body, see? across the chest and around the throat. Be careful of those conditions in the throat! Taking, also, occasionally, half a teaspoonful of Glyco-Thymoline in half a glass of water, see?
-
Watch the diet! Keep all the eggs and milk the body will assimilate. Do not overcrowd the system, but taking that that will assimilate, without producing nausea or clogging the system. Better that a small quantity be taken often, that it may be assimilated by the system. Eggs and milk - these may be put together, if possible for the body to take it in this way and manner, see? Fresh eggs. Keep the animal heat - or being eaten while the heat is still there; as also the heat from the animal in the milk. Both of these are well taken into the system, for these give their vibrations as will produce better assimilation in this condition, and are more digestible to the body and to the lining of the intestinal tract, as well as to the portions of the duodenum and stomach proper.
-
Also use in the diet as much beef juice as the body can assimilate - a little at the time may be taken, see? even though a half a teaspoonful at the time - just so the body ASSIMILATES same. This would be prepared by taking at least a pound of the fresh meat, well prepared, and cut in cubes - place inside a glass jar, seal, place in water and allow to boil from an hour to an hour and a half. Strain off the juice from this, season as to be palatable to the taste, and take a small quantity at the time. Do not let this become old, but this will assimilate in the system. Keep also handy those properties as are found in Beef, Iron and Wine (Wyeth’s). Take a small sip of this occasionally, as long as the body assimilates same, take same. Do not take same when it will NOT be ASSIMILATED!
-
Also small quantities occasionally of pure Olive Oil taken in the system. This will be as food for the whole intestinal system. Especially is this well with the body where manipulations are used. Rub the spine with equal parts of Tincture of Myrrh and pure Olive Oil, when the adjustments or manipulations are given - the olive oil heated and the myrrh poured in same while hot, see? Massage into each center along the cerebro-spinal system, from the coccyx to the upper cervicals, see? Do this once each day, when the body is able to stand it. It will give strength, and keep the BODY WARM!
-
Do that. When these have been carried out - and use persistence, use consistency throughout - we will find better conditions for the body.
-
(Q) Should the manipulations be given osteopathically or chiropractically? (A) The massage is better than either in these conditions, but adjustments are necessary - in the lower portion of the body where adjustments are needed, but cannot all be made at once.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 1/27/27 EC’s letter to [4236]‘s mother, [4235]:
Mrs. [4235] …, Florida
Dear Mrs. [4235]:-
You will find enclosed the reading gotten yesterday afternoon. I am certainly in hopes you will be able to carry out the suggestions fully as they are given, for I am sure
- from the experience of others - by so doing your daughter will be greatly benefitted.
We shall appreciate hearing from you from time to time, to know how she gets along. We assure you that it is our desire to be of help if at all possible.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
P.S. We are sending this reading special delivery, for we thought it best that you get started on the treatments suggested immediately.
R2. 2/27 Mother [4235]‘s report:
ASSOCIATION OF NATIONAL INVESTIGATORS
NAME: Miss [4236] ADDRESS: .., Fla. AGE: 22 SEX: F MARRIED OR SINGLE: Single NATIONALITY: American
(You will please state in the space below how near, in your opinion, reading fits your condition, as you know it yourself, and if you expect to carry out the suggestions made for the improvement of your health.)
The best I can tell, you hit [4236]‘s case exactly (This is [4236]‘s mother writing).
And as far as we are able and as near as we can we expect to follow your advice. I haven’t words that will express my gratitude to you for your time, trouble and advice. I wish you well all through life.
Mrs. [4235]
R3. 5/3/28 Mother [4235]‘s report:
We think she is improving under a new treatment.
We only followed part of the suggestions given in [4236]‘s reading because we could not get the capsules any where, and we did not use the cider as prescribed. But otherwise we did as directed.
But we could not see any change. Except, she gradually grew worse.
However we thank you more than words can tell for your effort
- and I will always speak good of your work for I think its great.
Wishing you success at all times.

B1. 9/26 Letter: “I should be glad if you will use your ability to tell me something about my condition.”
B2. GD’s note: Her first appointment was cancelled due to death of EC’s mother. He then made an appointment for Dec. 7th.
B3. 11/22/26 EC’s letter:
Miss [4236] …, Florida
Dear Miss [4236]:-
I am in receipt of your card returned. I notice that you did not enclose any contribution. Possibly you do not desire to contribute. Would you please state your reasons? While we do not wish to put whatever good we might be able to do for suffering humanity out of reach of those not able to pay for same, but rather are we striving to be able rather to serve those who are NOT able to pay for same - but, until that time, those we try to serve must necessarily contribute sufficient to take care of the needs of the physical man. Now we do not set an amount, for we know nothing about your abilities to contribute, but if you wish the reading, you will contribute according to your own conscience AND your abilities, for else how would you be able to carry out the suggestions as were given, if you couldn’t contribute something? And if it is merely to see what I will SAY regarding your condition, do you think it just and right to take the time from someone who really needs and does desire such service? Let us hear from you by return mail if you wish the reading made, and oblige.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
B4. 11/26/26 [4236]‘s letter:
…, Fla.
Mr. Edgar Cayce:-
This is Mrs. [4235] writing, ([4236]‘s mother).
When [4236] wrote you in Oct. I gave her $1.00 to send you which she did. You did not give her the reading on Nov. 5th so I thought the dollar would stand good for Dec. 7th the time you set.
Now if you expect more contribution you will have to cancel [4236]‘s date for I am not able to pay more.
I am sorry you hurt her feelings.
Mrs. [4235]
B5. 11/30/26 EC’s letter to Mrs. [4235]:
Mrs. [4235] …, Florida
My dear Mrs. [4235]:-
Replying to yours of the 26th, I am sorry to have hurt Miss [4236]‘s feelings - but to my knowledge we have never received any contribution whatever. However, I am sure if you think a moment that a dollar contribution would not be a contribution towards the work we are trying to do. That would scarcely pay for the stationery and postage, much less the services of the stenographer. However, for fear that you may have overlooked this in some manner or way, you will please find enclosed a dollar, which you will tend to Miss [4236] and we beg her pardon for any ill feeling that we may have caused. I sincerely hope she will find that which will be of service in correcting her troubles, and that she will live a normal, useful life.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
B6. 12/3/26 Mother’s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce:-
I have just recd. your letter containing the dollar. I don’t understand it at all. I took it to Dr. M. T. Thompson, the one that got me to write you, to see if he could understand it, and he said he could not. He is a chiropractor and was at Selma while you was there.
You know I have sense enough to know that 1 dollar will not pay for anything, but - if I received the good out of the reading I hope for there is not money enough to pay you; for [4236] (my daughter) is in bed, has been 11 weeks with T.B. You being a father can have an idea how I feel about her. But I can’t help your attitude toward me in any way.
You said you did not receive the dollar. I don’t say you did but I know I mailed the letter with it in it. Therefore it was taken out between here and there.
Now don’t think for a moment, if I can’t help your cause that I will take away from it. I would gladly help if I could. So I am returning the dollar and wishing you well and that you may do a lot of good in your work.
I am very sorry things have turned out as they have for I hoped to learn something from [4236]‘s reading that might help her. But, just as you say, I can’t help it.
Sincerely, Mrs. [4235]
B7. 12/7/26 EC’s letter:
Mrs. [4235] …, Florida
Dear Mrs. [4235]:-
Replying to yours of the 3rd, Mrs. [4235]. I want to assure you it would be the greatest pleasure in the world to us to try and be of help and assistance to your daughter. All that we ask is your cooperation, and it is not money cooperation we are asking for at all, though I am sure your own experience has taught you that money is necessary to care for the wants and needs of a family, and our work depends upon the contributions from those we try to serve for such sustenance. We shall be more than glad to make an appointment for your daughter, if you so desire it, and if you DO desire it, please let us know - and we will make it for the first possible time that we can do it. We sincerely hope that we may be of service, for to use whatever may have been given me to relieve suffering humanity is my greatest desire.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
B8. 12/12/26 Mrs. [4235]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce:-
In reply to your letter of the 7th, I am glad to know you have or seem to have no ill will toward my daughter or I. I want to be at peace with everybody.
I thank you so much for the offer of the reading of my daughter.
So if you so desire I will gladly accept an appointment for her when it suits you most.
Wishing you the best of luck, I am
Sincerely, Mrs. [4235]
B9. 12/17/26 EC’s letter:
Mrs. [4235] …, Florida
Dear Mrs. [4235]
Replying to yours of the 12th, I am sorry to know, Mrs. [4235] that you have ever even entertained the idea that I had any other than the best interest in your daughter or yourself - but, as I am sure you realize, it is impossible for us to know the circumstances and conditions that surround the lives of the individuals from whom we have requests for assistance, and the upkeep of the work, and my own household, depends upon the contributions from those we try to assist - but we certainly do not wish, however, to put the help that we may be to suffering humanity out of the reach of those who are able to pay little or nothing for such assistance, but we want to treat each and everyone alike, and we want each and everyone to be just as fair and honest with us as they desire us to be toward them.
We shall certainly be very glad to make an appointment - IF you and your daughter desire that a reading be made.
I am sorry of the apparent delay, but the first open appointment that we have now is the afternoon of January the 26th. Possibly it would be very well for you, and for Dr. Thompson, to make a list of questions to have asked regarding your daughter’s condition. Possibly this might clarify conditions for you, and make it easier for you to carry out fully the suggestions as are made for her improvement - for I am sure you realize all the readings in the world will not be worth anything unless the suggestions are carried out.
We trust this will be satisfactory, and we hope you will let us hear from you. With kindest personal regards to you both, and wishing you a Merry Christmas, I am
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce EC:GD
B10. 12/20/26 Mrs. [4235]‘s letter:
Dr. Thompson and I have decided we [don’t?] know of any question to ask that might help you. We only hope we may hear from you as soon as is possible for she ([4236]) is getting so weak she can hardly breathe after a coughing spell and this her mother can’t help keep the tears back all day. I know I am not as good as a lot of mothers and it is as fair for me to suffer as other mothers has, but I do know I LOVE mine as well as any mother does.
Then my health is so bad at the present - I can not walk only just at times. But God knows best - and I pray HE may inspire you with the knowledge and what to do that will cure or even help her. May God help you and me. Mrs. [4235]
