EC: Yes, we have the entity here, [4248], and those relations with the universe and universal forces, as are latent and exhibited in the present entity. Astrologically, we find the entity coming under the influences of Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, and Uranus. Hence we find many exceptional abilities as will be seen manifested in various ways. Still at times those conditions with the mental developments that will be called erratic by some others, especially those whose birthdays occur in May and July. In the application of will’s force as respecting those elements of influence, these we will find will have much to do with the developments for the entity, for under the influence of Mars with Uranus these may become very erratic, even to where destructive forces may be made manifest, especially through arms, firearms, or temper as exercised by the body, or in that of erratic actions in speech towards others. These influences occur in the cycles when 7, 9, and their multiples are in the activities of those forces that are manifest both through the astrological and numerals, or numerical forces as come in every influence. In those as are seen in Uranus with that of those in the Mercurian, these have more to do with the physical and the care that will be necessary to prevent the overtaxing of the nerve and mental forces to the extent that anemia will prevail in the physical actions. These as warnings, especially in the 23rd, 29th, and the 34th years. These coming again as multiples, or numbers, in the life, as well as influences astrological. These may be met by those conditions as are ever active through the application of will in self as respecting those of astrological, or even physical conditions for the body.
-
In the abilities, personality, and conditions, these, as we find, the natural tend or trend.
-
One high minded, ennobling in character, purpose, intent - the highest of all, and in those influences as have to do for the ABILITY of becoming money-maker. Don’t become money mad!
-
In that of the forces as are seen with the square of Jupiter and Uranus, with Venus, will bring erratic love affairs in the life. This again a warning to the entity, that these may be allowed to go to such an extreme as to become detrimental rather than that of the building, or the forces as are necessary in will again must be applied as respecting these conditions. In this, occurring in the 25th, again in the 34th, again in the 43rd year, provided those of the anemia forces have not prevailed.
-
In those as the influences in the tendencies of the body, or the forces as INNATELY active, are to those especially of the mental and mental attributes of body, bodies, as related to one another, and as their activity upon individuals as individuals, as groups, and the variations in same. Hence the psychological, analytical, or that activity of the brain forces are ever in the forefront of the entity’s activities. The impulse to tear apart, to see what makes the wheels go round, will ever be in the entity’s desires. Desire correct, when guided aright, but let the desires of thine heart be in keeping with service, rather than in that of the purely personal desire to gratify curiosity, or the desire of knowledge. Making, then, of knowledge, through the analytical forces of the self, that which may be applied not only in the material, but in the social and spiritual life may bring for the body, physically, mentally and spiritually, MANY more OF the desires of the heart, that the life is well spent.
-
As to the appearances and the influences as these have had, do have, and will have in the present experience:
-
In the one before this we find in that period when there were the first invasions for the ones with a purpose, known as the Crusades. The entity among those who went as a messenger for the peoples, in the capacity of the aid to those that suffered in health, in body, in mind; aided much in those periods through the administering hand to those that suffered; gaining through the experience; in the name Cyril. In the influence in the present, there is seen there are subjects as pertain to life and its phases that are particularly of interest, especially that as is given in the desire to know the impulse as arises from environment and its variation with hereditary forces. In the application of that as is IN the life at the present experience, is that particular interest in healing.
-
In the one before this we find in that land known now as India, and the entity then among those who were of the upper classes, and a teacher and minister to the peoples in the hills, as they were driven to and fro by the peoples from the lowlands, and in the capacity of the advisor to those who sought counsel; for the entity then held self in reserve, becoming the hermit in the hills, known as one Isheiljden, and there may yet be seen much in those of the Mohammeds of the counsel of the great Isheiljden, that brought to the peoples the concentrated effort of a long life spent in meditation, and many of the tenets of the Mohammeds, and of even India, are the tenets of the entity as established in that period. In the present experience the entity dislikes to be alone too long; dislikes one that is not able to concentrate, yet one that gives ALL of self to concentration.
-
In the one before this we find in that land now known as Egypt. The entity then among those who rose with the rebel against the king, when there were the divisions, and turmoils and strife arose. Then entity then the armor bearer and brother to that one who made war against the young king when there was this division. In the name Ejhud. In that experience the entity lost and gained. Gained and lost through the applications of the lessons as were gained through the varied experience of the period. In the present experience there is seen many of those whom the entity contacted about the entity, and there are various elements of the likes, dislikes, innate expressions, that often find themselves manifesting in little ways, that the entity NATURALLY desires to analyze. These may mean much, with the study of the mental body, the physical body, the spiritual life body.
-
In the one before this we find in that land now known as Peru. The entity then one that rose in power over the Ohum [Aymaras], and the entity overcame that ruler who lost self in the aggrandizement of selfish desires as respecting the fair sex; becoming the ruler, yet much BLOOD was shed. Thence anemia. In this condition the entity gained physically, lost materially, gained mentally, lost in physical - in that the entity LEARNED to know that service brought contentment, where power only brought dissension.
-
In the abilities of the entity and that to which it may attain: In the study of man, as man physical - in the study of man, as a mental - and the impelling force, the spiritual, must NOT be left out. The physician or the teacher, then, in the line of the entity’s greater development. Be able to apply in self the tenets as are to be given to others. First in the physical, that the mental and the spiritual may manifest the more. In the mental, that the spiritual may find expression. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) In what specific field or branch of the medical profession would the natural abilities and urges of this entity lend the greatest assistance? (A) That of the psychiatrist, or the analytical anatomist.
-
(Q) How may entity guard against this condition of anemia? (A) By applying that gained in knowledge as respecting the body, in self’s own condition. That’s given.
-
We are through.

R1. 10/8/44 [4248]‘s letter:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Va Beach Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce
I saw the recent interesting article about you in the Coronet. I had thought so often about you and Hugh Lynn and Thomas House. I roomed with them at Washington & Lee and visited at your house in 1929 where I had a reading. So much of the advice you gave me has turned out right tho I did not believe it at the time.
Could you give me another reading? I am very sincerely interested in finding the answer to a conflict in myself that is causing me a lot of unhappiness & hurting my work so much.
My present address is Camp …, Texas, Hut 5322 Av A. & 20th but we move quite often. If you will write me when you have the reading I will be there or will wire you where I will be as I remember that was the way you did. I am enclosing $10.00. If that is not correct let me know.
Please let me hear from you also about yourself & Mrs. Cayce and especially Hugh Lynn & Thomas House as I had heard nothing from them since I left W & L.
I am at present with the Army and am happily married to a girl from home.
Very sincerely, [4248] Capt. A.U.S.
R2. 12/1/44 GD’s form letter:
Dear Capt. [4248]:
In regard to your desire to affiliate yourself with the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., please acquaint yourself with the following information.
We cannot offer you an appointment for an individual reading, since Mr. Cayce’s calendar is booked through 1945. Appointments for 1946 will not be accepted for several months, and this will be determined by Mr. Cayce’s physical well-being.
Through our Publications Program which is now being revised by Thomas Sugrue, we plan to offer material drawn from the many records in our files, which give physical, vocational, mental and spiritual guidance. This information was secured through two major types of readings: (1) Physical readings, which describe the physical condition and give suggestions for corrective measures: and (2) Life readings which give vocational, mental and spiritual guidance.
In order to become more familiar with the Association program, we would suggest that you read the following publications: (1) The booklet, “Life and Work of Edgar Cayce,” which outlines the purposes of the Association, membership requirements and other information pertinent to aiding us in giving you the information you desire through our publications. (This booklet is being reprinted. We should be able to fill your order within the next three months.) (2) The booklets called “Physical Readings” and “Life Readings” were compiled for the purpose of helping the individual prepare for and understand the application of the information given. (3) A broad picture of this work is given in Thomas Sugrue’s book, THERE IS A RIVER.
You may keep in touch with us through our Monthly Bulletin, which carries news of the Association activities, or through our Weekly Letter, which consists solely of extracts from the readings. You may receive either of these for six dollars a year or both for twelve dollars a year. Other booklets and prices are listed on the enclosed Publications leaflet.
Financial aid through gifts, whether small or large, constitutes a fund which makes it possible for us to carry on the research work, so that we may develop our publications in order to help all who come seeking guidance.
Appreciating your interest and hoping that we may again hear from you in regard to some phase of our Publications Program, I am
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis, Secretary, ASS’N FOR RESEARCH AND ENLIGHTENMENT, INC.
P.S. [4248], due to Mr. Cayce’s illness, he has not been able to give any readings for three months. The enclosed forms will explain.
H. L. is in the Army, overseas. Tommy House is in Hopkinsville, Ky. He married Doris Anderson of Va. Beach - they have two lovely children. H. L. is also married and has a two-year old son. Did you know Thomas Sugrue? He is now in Clearwater Beach, Fla.
R3. 5/31/59 [4248]‘s letter to HLC: “Things have been well with me. Married late and have fine, lovely children and an active, busy practice doing mostly ear work [M.D., specializing in ear, nose and throat].” [He requested and was sent a copy of his reading.]
R4. 5/19/61 Dr. [4248] wrote to HLC: “I have enjoyed so much hearing of your work and reading the bulletins from the A.R.E. Enclosed is my check for 1960-61 dues.”
R5. 1/10/72 Rosi Hood’s letter to [4248]:
Dear [4248]
When you were my age, you or someone close to you, contacted Edgar Cayce for help. In order for me to continue Cayce’s work, I need your help. I am a student at Roanoke College, working for my degree in Psychology. The research* I am attempting, if done well, will earn me three hours credit; but more importantly it will produce a much needed follow up that will further prove the validity of Edgar Cayce’s power.
I have been an avid follower of Cayce’s for five years and have attended several conferences in Virginia Beach. Having always wished to work for the A.R.E., I now have the opportunity to do something constructive for it and myself. But it is impossible without your cooperation.
I have enclosed a questionnaire; part one is a general questionnaire which everyone answers; part two pertains only to you. If you will, read them carefully and be as brief and objective in your answers as possible. In order for me to finish the entire project on time, I ask that you send this back immediately. Enclosed is a self-addressed, stamped envelope, and as you can see, it is addressed to Gladys Davis Turner. She mailed this letter to you. She is the only person who has your name. I receive only the reading number and your answers to the questions. You can be sure that your anonymity will forever be protected.
Again, I ask you please to mail this form back immediately as my project is due on the 28th of January.
May I express my deepest thanks beforehand and say God Bless you.
Sincerely, [signed] Rosi Hood
- This research is being directed by Dr. Charles Thomas Cayce, Director of A.R.E. Youth Activities. Questions concerning the project may be forwarded to him.
(5/73 P.S. by GDT: Rosi Hood has completed her research, received her credit, but we are continuing to try to contact the rest of the young people who obtained readings.)
R6. 1/29/72 Response to GENERAL QUESTIONNAIRE (Sent 1/24/72):
PART ONE
What jobs have you held since your reading? (In chronological order) Physician.
Have you ever spoken with Edgar Cayce? How well, if so, did you know him? [(Yes) underlined] One week.
Do you feel that Edgar Cayce’s source of information depicted you accurately? Fair.
At the time of the reading, did you have confidence in his counseling? [(Yes) underlined]
Do you feel that the reading helped you? How? Not particularly.
As you look back, do you see patterns that were shown in the readings that you didn’t see before? Please explain. No - he told me things I already knew. His advice was common sense.
Do you think that your life could have been made better by following the advice more closely? Yes. The advice was good but applicable to anyone.
If Edgar Cayce were alive would you refer people to him for help? [(Undecided) underlined]
Did any of his predictions manifest themselves? (Granted that you followed his advice.) He made few definite predictions.
Note: Remember that you remain anonymous. If there is any additional information which you would like to add to help me, it would be appreciated.
Much of my reading was diffuse double talk that any acute observer could have reproduced. There was almost nothing definite in it. However, I saw many phenomenon [phenomena] in his work that was [were] definitely psychic. Read some of his volumes. They were to me often disappointing, and I wish I could have known him better. Good luck on your project.
PART TWO
In your youth were you known to be erratic in your behavior? [Uncertain underlined] No more.
Did your ability to make money show itself? [Yes underlined] But moderately.
“The psychological, the analytical, or that activity of the brain” forces are ever in the forefront of the entity’s activities. [Agree underlined]
I dislike to be alone too long. [True underlined] Who doesn’t?
Cayce said that you give all self to concentration. Don’t know.
Did you have any inclination towards being a doctor before the reading? [Yes underlined] He knew this, I believe, at the time.
R7. 3/27/77 GD’s note: Tonight Mr. […] of N.J. called me to talk about A.R.E. prior to becoming a member. He said that his friend Dr. [4248] had told him much about Edgar Cayce and High Lynn and “the work.”
