This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 8th day of June, 1926, in accordance with request made by her husband, Mr. […].

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time. You will diagnose the case thoroughly, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body.

2. EC: Now, we find there are many abnormal conditions with this body. These have to do with specific conditions in the body, and with the effects of other specific conditions that bring distress to portions of the system that PREVENT much of the readjusting of the system to those conditions applied for the betterment of the body in other specifics.

3. Now, these are conditions as we find them in this body, [4271] we are speaking of. First:

4. IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, in this we find there is the lack of proper coordination through the replenishing in cellular force, or as is called coagulation in used tissue, or in the system eliminating used tissue, and in this destruction, especially in blood cells, the organs of the elimination suffer.

5. IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, this constantly kept at high tension throughout the cerebro-spinal system by a condition existing in the plexus about the 4th, 5th and 6th dorsal. This, as we see, also brings irritation at times to the sympathetic system - combined with the other conditions in the body, makes or produces, as it were, melancholia spells, wherein the body feels as if there is no use to make resistance, there is no use fighting against the physical conditions.

6. IN THE FUNCTIONING OF THE ORGANS, in brain forces very good.

7. In the organs of the sensory system, these all suffer from this strain on nerve supply from the dorsal region, reflexly throughout the cervical region. This condition also brings the condition of the inability of the blood supply, under its strain, to supply, through the secondary system, the necessary incentive for nutriment rebuilding through the lungs. Hence, with the defective, deficient, and the over filling up of certain of the conditions in the lungs, causes these to be depressed with the cough as is experienced by this sensation in the bronchials, from this lesion at the 4th and 5th dorsal.

8. In the digestive system, this continual condition in the respitory [respiratory] system, the effect that this produces on the heart’s action, the pneumogastrics produce then that in the digestive system (not always - but occasionally) of inability of assimilation, for we have then produced an over amount of pepsin, as it were, in the body - that is, by the body itself. Hence the weakened condition in the new blood as is rebuilded in the system.

9. Liver torpid, as is also the spleen slow in its activity.

10. The lower portion of the digestive system better than would be ordinarily found in these conditions, for the capillary circulation has been kept good by exercise, by open air, and by the diet. This is greatly in the body’s favor.

11. Now, to bring about the normal conditions for this body, first we would change from climatic conditions. Rather that as is found among the pines in North Carolina, than that in the seacoast region. Though sea air is good in respects, the effect without the correction in portions of the system is not good at present.

12. The condition in the dorsal and cervical should be corrected first, osteopathically. This would necessitate, then, at least twenty-six (26) such adjustments and treatments, to keep same in a normal place and position.

13. Take internally three to five doses of these properties. This would be placed in capsule. This as each dose.

Eucalyptol Oil…1 minim, Canadian Balsam…1/2 minim, Oil of Turp…1/2 minim, Heroin…1/80 grain.

14. These necessary to be taken soon after they are prepared. Only prepare one at the time - should be at least three days apart in each dose.

15. Then use as an inhalant two combinations. First we would prepare at least one gallon of pure apple brandy in two gallon charred container. This kept corked securely, with an opening through which the body may inhale, two to three times each day, the fumes and gasses as form from the evaporation of this. Not taken internally - inhaling through the lungs, see?

16. Then prepare THIS as an inhalant for the cough:

To 4 ounces of grain alcohol, add:

Eucalyptol…20 minims, Benzozol…20 minims, Rectified Turp…10 minims, Benzoin…15 minims, Tincture of Tolu in solution…30 minims.

Keep this in a container at least twice the size of the quantity. Shake well. Inhale this through nostrils and through throat whenever the tendency is to cough, and of evenings, and DURING the night, this would be preferable.

17. Sleep in the open as much as possible.

18. Keep the feet dry.

19. Salt packs are always good for the body. When in pain from any adjustments, warm, but not overly heated - preferably damp heat, see? this applied to the body, but warm.

20. The diet should be principally of beef juices, eggs, olive oil, and those of fat building properties for the system.

21. Keep the intestinal tract open by keeping the system full of water, and by enemas, rather than by laxatives, for with the change in the condition in the dorsal region, we will find a change in the activity of the liver and spleen, provided the treatments are given correctly, with the adjustments.

22. Do that. We are through for the present.

R1. 6/9/26 EC’s letter to [4271]‘s husband:

Dear Mr. […]

I enclose you, herewith, the copy of the reading that was gotten for your wife. I am certainly very much in hopes that you will find in this that which will be of a great deal of benefit to your wife, and I believe you will.

I think that I can appreciate your position as regarding this condition, as it was through just such a circumstance I was led to gain the greater confidence of the good that might be obtained through these readings, for no doubt you noticed in the pamphlet the reference to my wife’s condition. She was said by the medical men to be in a hopeless condition from tuberculosis. The reading for her was perhaps the most convincing experience of my life. I am mighty glad to say that she is in the best of health today, better than she has been I suppose any time during her life, and that experience was in 1911.

I shall appreciate your letting me hear from you from time to time, for we would like to keep a check on these readings and to be of help if possible.

Dear Sir:

Am in receipt of copies of “readings” for both my wife [4271] and Mrs. [4270] of New Orleans for which please accept thanks.

I think you have made a correct diagnosis of each case. Have written my wife to carry out your instructions as far as possible. She is now in Los Angeles, was at Long Beach only for a short visit to friends. She is hardly strong enough at present to make the trip to North Carolina. I fear she cannot get any Apple Brandy. I have urged her to make the effort, by the way I am against prohibition.

You shall hear form me again as soon as I can hear from Mrs. [4271].

Salter’s letter: “Had talk with Mr. […] day or so ago who is completely sold on the reading saying it describes his wife [4271]‘s condition exactly but he had a letter from her saying it was so much like spiritualism she was loath to start on its treatment, so he has now got to convince her and get her started.”

R4. 7/16/26 EC’s letter to [4271]‘s husband:

My dear Mr. […]

I was very glad to have yours of the 13th, and to know that you think that we have given the correct condition for each of the cases in question. I am certainly sure that you, as well as myself, believe if they can only consistently now apply the suggestions as were given that they will get the results. I certainly am in hopes your wife can get what was suggested for her. She may have some trouble getting that much apple brandy at the time. I suppose that she will just have to get several of her friends to get a small quantity and then put it all together. I think I appreciate her condition, as I told you, having had the experience that I did with my wife’s condition, for that, as you know from reading the pamphlet, was what gave me real material proofs in my own life.

I shall certainly be glad to hear from you from time to time, for we should like to check up on these conditions if it becomes necessary, for of course we want to be of help if it is possible.

R5. 8/18/26 Mrs. [4271]‘s letter:

My dear Mr. Cayce,

Mr. […] [her husband] has asked me to write you. I had hardly thought it necessary, but in case it may help you, I will do so.

Your letter making appointment for a reading for JUNE 8th did not reach me until JUNE 15th. So you see I was unable to cooperate with you in any way. I was surprised to learn that a reading was made regardless of my inability to keep appointment.

The only way you touched my case was in a general way - any symptoms that might be mine could just as easily apply to anyone else.

The symptoms for which you prescribed DID NOT apply to me, as I HAVE NO COUGH and have had none - except when I have a cold. And I have had very few colds since coming to Calif. My case is quite different, so of course I have not followed your suggestions.

Hope you can understand my position in matters. I am sorry on Mr. […]‘s account as he had so much faith in your treatments. He had heard from others and was hoping you could help me.

I am going to be well and strong again tho we hope, and I hope you may help others.

Dear Mrs. [4271]

I am in receipt of yours of the 18th, and want to thank you very much for same. I appreciate your position and thank you very much for writing me in regards to same. You understand, I’m sure, Mrs. [4271] that we have nothing to sell, neither are we trying to get people to subscribe to something that they do not care to apply in their everyday life. We have found, from the reports of others, that there are hundreds of people that ARE able to use the information as gotten through the readings in such a way and manner as to bring health and happiness to themselves and those about them, and I feel sure you know that we hoped that you would be able to do the same thing. I can’t help but believe that if you understood the nature of the work you wold feel somewhat different as regarding same. I understand it is sometimes hard for people to get the import of it, and I also realize it’s rather hard for me to try to explain it to people. It does not savour of fortune telling or spiritualism, but is really a most natural thing, if we study it from the mental standpoint - not that I claim any superior mental ability, other than to be able to lay aside my own mental consciousness. At first blush I understand that this apparently seems contradictory to what I have just stated, but it is really the subconscious, and not an incarnate spirit entity.

NASHVILLE, TENN.

Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach Va.

Dear Sir:

I was telling my friend Mr. H. P. Salter last week about the affliction of my brother’s wife [4270] and about my wife’s illness. These two cases are of long standing. My brother’s wife [4270] has been suffering TORTURES for about 15 yrs. with what the doctors call neuritis; the fact is they don’t know. My wife [4271] is THREATENED with TUBERCULOSIS, besides other ailments and she is now in California for her health, but does not improve much. I believe it is PROVIDENTIAL and an ANSWER TO PRAYER, that I had to talk last Saturday with Mr. Salter in which he told me about you; because I had just put the matter squarely before God, asking Him why after praying for years for the restoration to health of my wife & sister-in-law they were still suffering and apparently had no heed had been given to the many prayers which had been made by numerous friends & relatives. My having met my friend Mr. Salter and relating to him these things and HIS REFERRING ME TO YOU; I consider an answer to my last prayer in their behalf.

I believe God led me by the Holy Spirit to speak to my friend about the matter.

I would be glad to hear from you at your earliest convenience and let me know what you think about it.

Replying to yours of the 24th, I am enclosing you, herewith, the appointment card for the two readings, and I certainly am in hopes that we may be of help and assistance to you and yours. What you have told me seems quite remarkable, yet we have had so many similar experiences that we have come to believe just as you that these are not accidents nor coincidences, but a purely manifestation of the Spirit of the Father in our material world, and we believe, from the reports of others, that the results your loved ones will be able to obtain from this will be evidence enough to prove that this is true. We are making this appointment just as soon as possible. We are busy just at present and trust that the day and hours as are set will be satisfactory to you and yours. You will see from the little pamphlet what is necessary as regarding the appointments.
