This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 12th day of January, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [428], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Physical Culture Time of Reading Hotel, 11:35 to 11:40 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Dansville, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
Not quite so much distress through the activities of the system. Yet the inability to get the diet to assimilate as we find may be materially aided by at least once a day having a half a teaspoonful of Milk of Bismuth with three to six drops of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin in same, in half a glass of water.
-
And about twice a day (this between the meals) have half an ounce of Yellow Saffron Tea; not too strong. This as we find will prevent the accumulations of gas and the inflammation to be absorbed by the activities of these properties through the system.
-
When the enemas are given (and which should be a portion of the treatment) we would use afterwards a warm (not hot, not cold) Glyco-Thymoline solution. This is not only an intestinal antiseptic but will make for the relieving of those tendencies for the strain upon the alimentary canal and colon specific. The proportions would be a tablespoonful to the quart of the tepid or body-temperature water.
-
Then with the diets, with a gentle massage to relax the tension between the shoulders and along the upper dorsal and cervical area, and gently relaxing those through the lumbar and sacral area, there should be the better response - or make for better responses in the body.
-
Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) As Dr. Birdi is in the Florida institution and Dr. Gray will cooperate - (A) (Interrupting) Then have those things administered as have been indicated for the body, and we will find these will work with those applications being given and relieve distresses for the body.

We are through for the present.

R1. 2/4/37 Letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I want to thank you for the readings and for your kind letters and I regret so sincerely that I could not write sooner, but so very many things have happened that in my weakened and ill condition I could barely handle my own body and affairs in the institution.
I can’t possibly go onto all the details, but the first disappointment was the Dr. Gray DID NOT CO-Operate at all and I just had to make the best of things. Naturally I did not have all the ingredients. I had and still did not get the yellow saffron, all druggist have the red, so I must order this from New York, neither could I get the manipulations. Naturally all this decided my return home. My loss of weight was considerable, but I arrived home safely, an 8 hour journey by train, last Monday. Having been on fruits and vegetables for 5 weeks, my little strength available was just enough to get adjusted to my home environments again and my own care with a little for the family. My condition is improved greatly, for even though handicapped, I followed “Cayce” as much as I could, but am still in need of much care.
I am now enclosing check of $20. - for the readings. Of course, it was too bad, Dr. Birdi was not there, and I was puzzled, why the information should be just that way. What could Dr. Birdi know, that could not come through you knowing how desperate my plight was. I reasoned, if the forces saw that Dr. Birdi was good for me, and he was not with me, what of his “goodness” could the forces get for me. However, it is not for us to question, the why’s and the wherefore’s. I was grateful and still am, but if I could ask just one question, without making another reading, I would be very happy. There is no immediate hurry about this one, and as I understand, you often have group questions and this probably could be handled this way. I should like to know, whether I can use the inhalant given in one of my previous readings, to shrink the tumor in the womb, or the most necessary advice first. Naturally I am concerned about this. Just as soon as the gas condition is still better, I will give this more attention.
In closing I hope that your father has recovered from his recent illness, I was sorry to learn of your concern for home. I hope that you and all your family are well and remain with best regards from our whole family and myself, as ever.
Yours sincerely, [428]
P.S. Dear Mr. Cayce: After dwelling upon the Dr. Birdi question, it occurred to me that had I been able to be in Dr. Birdi’s care, he would have seen to it that my readings would have been carried out, because NO DOCTOR, outside of Dr. Berger has ever taken them seriously and there certainly is splendid information contained in all of them. The trouble is when I call on you for help I am always in such desperate plight, that I am not capable to handle the situation and nobody takes me in hand and I am too modest to expect it from anybody. Dr. Berger at that time charged $5. - and two visits a week for a long period we just could not do at that time. Further the conditions in the home were such as to continually undo any good that I might have received through manipulations. I don’t know, whether I told you, that my sister now takes care of my mother and partly of the house and I help as best I can, otherwise I don’t know what would become of me. I am going to make a very desperate effort now though to get well.
While at the institution I met a Dr. Anna de la Motte, an old lady, but mentally very alert, still practicing in Brooklyn and within 5 minutes conversation we discovered we were of one trend of thought. She wanted to see my readings and you might send her some advertising matter. She was the first woman to be admitted to our medical college, in fact she had to fight for admission, she is an M.D., Chiropractor and Osteopath and interested in the occult sciences. Of course I still have plenty of old bulletins here, but you may have better things and by the time I get to it, she may have lost interest, it is best to do those things soon. If you care to, I think it would be well to send her some case studies, something about karma, life readings, etc. I leave it to you. You may mention my name. I am going to call on her sometime, but of course I want to make a showing, otherwise what good is it. This is the address.
Anna C. de la Motte, M.D., 27 Schermerhorn St., Brooklyn, N.Y.
Of course, I am hoping that something may come of it and although I have been silent all these years, I have every kept you in mind.

R2. 2/8/37 EC’s letter: “The inhalant, I am sure, can be used, Mrs. [428], but may I make this suggestion? I am of the opinion that you have one of the best osteopaths [in your vicinity] than anywhere else in the country. Suppose you have him come by and see you. Dr. Frank P. Dobbins. Tell him you want a rdg., but that you want him, after examining you, to make up the questions, and for him to write me about it. Now this rdg. is on me, see? but would like for you to see someone who will cooperate with the information and get results. He has, many the time, and I believe he will here.
I don’t think he will charge you a great big fee, either. Do you know him? Won’t you do this for me now, Mrs. [428]? Let’s make one try at it anyway. Tell him the circumstances, and all, and you will, am sure, find that he is a man who has a heart.”
R3. 2/12/37 Dr. Frank P. Dobbins’ letter to EC: “I am writing for a Mrs. [428] who is having a particularly bad time with menopause. As you know she has been up to McFadden’s place in Dansville, [N.Y.].
“It seems that her one obsession is gas. In going over her abdomen I don’t seem to find a lot of distention and am convinced that the reason she has so much trouble is because she sucks in a lot of air. I don’t seem to get anywhere in telling her that. She has dieted to the point where she has lost 20 lbs. and she still is on a very foolish diet - also taking 2 enemas a day that I consider not only a waste of time but really harmful to her body. She will write you a request for a reading very soon and I would like these questions answered.
“1. Is the fibroid tumor in the uterus causing any pressure on any vital part? 2. Is exercise indicated, if so what form? 3. Is the feeling of gas pressure in the abdomen really gas, if not what causes this feeling? 4. Is the diet as given correct?
“I am not able to find a thing wrong with her and believe is due to an unbalance of the endocrine system - plus unpleasant things in the home.”
R4. 2/13/37 Mrs. [428]‘s letter to EC: Your letter of the 8th inst. made me very happy indeed and I am truly grateful of your kind interest. Any and every help seems a prayer answered.
It may interest you to know that before I went to Dansville Dr. Dobbins had already done his utmost with physical as well as mental adjustments to reestablish me, but as the reading so plainly stated, “The stress and strain of the ENVIRONS” were the cause of my distress. I knew this and felt for a long time that I should have a change, but on account of this gas condition and having no substitute to care for my mother, I never could get away until my condition got so very bad, that it was a case of life or death. An institution was therefore the only escape and even while many things happened that could be termed as “adverse”, it all turned out for the best. No amount of will power, nor reasoning could have brought about the “mental” change, as this stay away from home did.
So night before last we saw Dr. Dobbins and he will send his own questions. I feel the better for having had the treatment as well as being in his care. I had made another effort to get the yellow saffron, my own druggist reported it as “not on the market”, so to-day I went to Eymer and Amend myself and got what is called American Saffron and hope this is right, the term “yellow saffron” does not seem to be the regular trade name. I have taken it twice today and will watch the outcome.
And now if I may, I should like to ask questions concerning the following: besides the ones Dr. Dobbins will ask, unless they are duplicates:
At the time the first reading was made I lived on grapefruit, tomatoes, oranges, and I really “resent” no diet, except that I get terribly hungry and weak. I get so weak that unless I take some milk, egg yolk, Vegex with milk, I can hardly care for myself and therefore I have added these foods in only the necessary amounts to keep me going. I weighed 101 1/2 lbs. at Dansville and I still weigh that. Dr. Dobbins would like to have me add Clabbered milk, which I am willing to take. The socalled “body” of my diet has been as given in the first reading and I feel the better for it. QUESTION: AM I DOING RIGHT EATING THIS WAY?
Although Dr. Dobbins is not at all concerned about the tumor, I certainly should like to be enlightened about it. I am not fretting or worried about it and Dr. Dobbins said there is no need to pay attention until IT GETS REAL LARGE TO FORM AN OBSTRUCTION (to which I cannot agree) not when I can have information coming through you. I have had the successful experience that the uterus can be influenced through inhalations and while this particular remedy I have in mind may not be suitable now, something else may be seen as good for me in this condition, for I don’t want to let it become large if it can possibly be prevented. Dr. Tilden, a drugless authority, claims that fibroid tumors can be shrunk, also while at Dansville one of the masseuses told me that her sister is shrinking a tumor, so I feel that this undertaking is not absurd.
Question: WHAT CAN BE DONE TO SHRINK THE TUMOR?
Question: IS AMERICAN SAFFRON THE RIGHT KIND?
Of course I am glad myself to be home again and can only say that every day I have been feeling some better. Of course much precious time has been lost because I did not have the proper support but I am happy to be this far.
