GC: You will answer the questions which I shall ask you regarding this body, as I ask them.
-
EC: Now, the physical conditions we find are improved from those, even from the last time we had this body here, for the assimilations are better and the conditions that produce the temperature in the system are also improved. This, as we see, is produced by the condition existing in the lacteals ducts, see? Hence the condition, when over exaggerated, produces the fermentation in intestinal tract, also causing the juices and the ducts in the upper portion of digestive system to become overcharged, causing the intestine and the duodenum indigestion. One fermentation, one inflammation, see?
-
Then, to relieve this, we would give those properties, those adjustments as we have outlined, in the diet and in the osteopathic manipulation, to cause the whole system to be relaxed, especially that along the tract of the lacteal duct region, see? Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Please examine the spine from the base of the brain to the lower end of spine and tell if there is a slight lesion in any vertebrae. (A) As has been given, the stimulation to that center in the 7th and 8th dorsal will assist in the correcting of the condition in lacteal region, see? for from this center, with those branches of the nerve plexus from the hypogastric and pneumogastric junction plexus, does the system gain its nerve reaction in lacteal region, for through same do we find that connection, see, to the hypogastric center, or that enclosing the stomach direct to brain and that of the lower portion of digestive system, or that in the region of the lacteal duct - the hypogastric center.
-
(Q) Is there an ulcer in her stomach, duodenum, small intestine or colon? (A) No. The condition, as is given, lies in the lacteal duct, in the right side, that of the mesenteric system and of those glands from which assimilations produce blood supply in system. There the trouble. No lesion proper. Lack of the proper assimilating, or lacking vital forces to produce from the system that that keeps a normal equilibrium in this portion, see? Hence the vibration of that as is given from the hand - yes, Dr. A. C. Layne can apply same, see? - to that center, will stimulate the secretions through this portion of system and reduce this that produces any temperature, but as given, this is not an excess, for this system, under the existing condition. Just needs more fresh air, more playing out in the open, more keeping exercise over all portions of the body, so as to keep a full capillary circulation, by the exercises, see? Then not over eating, when hot, or over eating when cold.
-
(Q) Should she have any Winter-Smith’s Chill and Malaria tonic? (A) No. Better if stimulation with the medicinal properties from food values than from taking of a narcotic to affect the assimilation in the blood supply. Should the parent desire the tonic for the body, we would give others than Winter- Smith’s Chill and Malarial Tonic. Not necessary, though, for body at present.
-
(Q) Should she run any, or play quietly? (A) Run and play.
-
(Q) Will two osteopathic treatments a week be sufficient? (A) After the correct vibrations are set (in three to five days from the beginning, with the treatments as are given), two a week would be sufficient.
-
That is all the questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 11/16/25 Mother [4280]‘s letter: ”…Your last reading on little [4281] came in due time and we have followed directions. She was taken with a severe cold two weeks ago and is not over it yet, so we are still here with Dr. Layne. I was afraid to take her home, as Dr. Layne said it would be better to remain here until she is entirely over the cold. We want you to give another reading on her, as Dr. Layne wants you to see the condition of her blood at this time. To see if she has enough red and white corpuscles at present. Dr. Layne wants to know if an electric pack over her liver, stomach, and bowels would help her digestion? Also he has a large electric blanket, which makes one throw off poison through the skin. Would this be better than the small electric pad? Please tell if they would help her digestion. Dr. Layne wants you to see if she should have the scalded sweet milk or the raw milk? Does heating the milk make it a dead food, as all the baby ‘specialists’ say it does? We are very anxious to know what you have to say to this! How much heating is required? Please see what kind of water she should drink now, and should it be boiled? She begs for dates, raw apples, canned peaches, sweet potatoes, ripe pears - please see if she can eat these things. I have cooked all of her apples and pears. Should she have butter in any form or cheese? Should she have boiled custard or egg custard. She asks for these, also asks for nuts, pecans, and jam and jelly and candy. I do not give her these and feel sure that they are not good for her. Will you please see if she can have any of these, even in small quantities. Can she eat any meats now, such as tender chicken, beef or turkey? Or a little breakfast bacon? She also asks for turnip greens and collards! Should she have either of these? Any cake in any form yet? And a biscuit occasionally? She begs for biscuits and cake. We are anxious to get home and want to go the 26th - Thanksgiving Day if possible. Please see if she will be able to do on two or three treatments a week now. Mr. [4283] [the child’s father] is anxious to know if taking the baby to Florida for the winter months would benefit her? They have sulphur water at Arcadia, Florida, where we thought of taking her. She seems to easily chill now. Please describe her conditions now and see if she needs the codliver tonic (Wampole’s) yet, or medicine of any kind? Would Hitchcock’s Baby Liver Medicine, or any liver medicine help her? She takes the juice of an orange daily. Should she eat grapefruit with sugar? please describe everything she can have now, as she grows tired of fruits and vegetables so easily. Am sending a small offering and hope to be able to send you a larger one soon! [4282] will send to you a few pecans soon.
“Dr. Layne says to tell you that he has ordered plans for a house and is going to build a winter home for him in Arcadia, Florida. He has two patients who have gone there to live and bought seventy-five lots in the city limits. They gave Dr.
Layne a $1500 lot. These people were reared in Griffin and are mighty fine folk. Dr. Layne says he hopes to have his home finished by the last of January, and if you happen to be in Florida come by and see them. Doc feels that he should spend his winters there now. He is seventy years old now, or will be in March…”
R2. 11/24/25 EC gave the ninth reading - 4281-9.
