This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of March, 1930, in accordance with request made by self - Rabbi [429] via Mr. [257].

1. GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [429], Apt. …, N.Y.C. You will answer the questions which we will ask you regarding this entity’s associations and contemplated connections in various phases of his life.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [429], and those conditions as surround the body, physically and mentally. Also the various connections, associations, and relations. These are varied in their aspects, but - in the physical must the body take the warnings, that the physical may be able to be that channel through which the mental MAY manifest. These should be given due consideration. Those conditions as exist in the soft tissue of the head and throat; especially those conditions in antrum and in the throat proper; also those relationships with same, as respecting the digestive system, and the MENTAL reactions that the body makes towards physical relationships must be kept in accord with that as is attempting to be made manifest by the body-mental, the body-physical. Ready for questions.

3. (Q) Should the entity accept the …, [N.J.] invitation if extended to him? [Pulpit left vacant by death of Rabbi [4159?]] (A) Should accept!

4. (Q) If so, would it be necessary or advisable to abandon The […, N.Y.] Synagog? (A) Not abandon it in IDEAL, but in fact - in the present, or under those conditions; for two factors may not be served at once, but a single PRINCIPLE, a single IDEAL, may be carried throughout.

5. (Q) Regarding marital relations, should the entity marry the one with whom he has been keeping company? (A) The one who has been an associate in portions of the work, whom the entity has relied upon [his sec’ty] - the one who has been active in welfare work, the one who is competent and capable and able to be of aid to the body, mentally and physically.

6. (Q) When should an engagement take place and be announced? (A) At once!

7. (Q) To what extent and in what details are the objections of his family justified? [His mother and sisters?] (A) Not at all! [9/6/30 See 259-2, Par. 9-A—12-A in re Rabbi [429] and his sec’ty’s marriage, their association with Mrs. [459] and her work, etc.]

8. (Q) To what extent should entity be governed by his older sister’s judgement? (A) Only in that in which the relationships have existed, do exist, as respecting that as regarding the appreciations for that as has been done for same.

9. (Q) How can entity help in the development of Atlantic University at Virginia Beach? (A) Not at all at present.

10. (Q) Would entity be of service in lecturing to the salesmen of the [257]‘s Furniture Co., or would an entry into the financial field be preferable? (A) Wouldn’t enter into either one! Tend to the business taking on in hand! Do that well first! Do not attempt to smear self all over so many things! but be COMPETENT, ABLE, to handle that in hand! When the offer is made, the hands will be full! Won’t need to be spread out over too many fields!

11. (Q) How could entity arrange to keep up The … [N.Y.] Synagog while partially supporting himself at …, [N.J.]? (A) The IDEAL as is IN same may be propagated by the teachings and by the lecturings, that will come in accord WITH those efforts and with those activities of the entity.

12. (Q) Any further advice? (A) Keep self straight first, and then the entity will be able to advise and counsel with others; remembering, that - that as is within CANNOT be of a canker and expect to have a liberal, or even a normal growth from without. Do not be two-faced in any service. Do not be the appearance in one way and the inner life not satisfactory to self. We are through for the present.

R1. 3/18/30 Sec’ty’s letter requested Physical Rdg. for her nephew, adding: “Dr. [429] has decided to take the pulpit directed formerly by the much loved Dr. [4159] in …, N.J. He was greatly helped by your rdg. and is going there full of determination, feeling a real inspiration and hoping to make it the biggest opportunity of his life. Your contribution in making him a happy man is so evident it is thrilling. I feel sure your other suggestions will be fulfilled with equal happiness for all and sincerely appreciated by all.”

R2. 3/23/30 Rabbi [429]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Friend:

“Your great kindness and cooperation in giving me an emergency reading has been heartily appreciated by myself, and my failure to write you more promptly has been due to the fact that I was extended a call to become the rabbi at […, N.J.] and have accepted the call, which is as according to the reading, and have been busy making arrangements to move - I shall move over there this coming Tuesday.

“Your reading also was most helpful to me in the matter of whether I should abandon the […, N.Y.] Synagog or not. Your reading suggests that I should “not abandon it in spirit”, and I have therefore applied myself to the problem of defining the spirit of this movement. I am therefore making arrangements to transfer the service from Sunday morning to Sunday evening, for at least the rest of this season, that is up to about May 15 or a week later. This will allow me to apply myself to the Sunday School at […, N.J.] and will more definitely fulfill the spirit of The […, N.Y.] Synagog which is to interest youth in the Jewish Religion.

“With reference to the other matter, I cannot as yet report much progress.

“Words fail me in the matter of showing you how greatly I appreciate your helpfulness, as well of course as to how I appreciate the value of this reading which came to me at what I regard as the most critical time in my life.

“Mr. [257] has promised to help me frame some further questions.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

“I am enclosing a copy of a bulletin issued some months ago, and which contains part of my eulogy of Rabbi [4159].

“I had meant to send you this at the time, and the matter slipped my mind because of the pressure of duties, but I feel that I would like you to have a copy of it, even if it is somewhat belated.

“I haven’t seen [257] for many, many weeks, indeed I should say for many months and in fact I saw him only once after you left.

“We have had a very snowy and icy winter which has made work at our Temple rather difficult. I am pleased, however, to tell you that my efforts in many directions are meeting with fine response and my wife and I are very happy in our work.

“Our little baby will be two years old on the 27th of this month, and has hardly been sick a day in her life. She is developing very marvelously and is bringing us a great deal of happiness.

“I hope that this finds you and your dear ones in good health, and my wife and I send you our best wishes and greetings. We would like to be remembered to your dear ones, and also to Miss Davis.”

R10. 4/7/34 GD’s note at end of EC’s reply to above letter: “P.S. Dr. [429], could you furnish me with your church music to the 91st Psalm? We have been trying to get it everywhere for one of our groups in Norfolk, but have been unable to get anything except the modern music - which is not what we want. I certainly would appreciate it if you could do this for me.”

R11. 4/13/34 “I find upon investigation that there is no music for this Psalm.”

R12. 4/20/34 EC’s letter: “I am sorry that they haven’t that music for the 91st Psalm. I was under the impression that I had heard this song. Was it not set to music by Cowles? I think, though, I may be mistaken, that I heard this once either in Cincinnati or Lexington or Louisville. Cowles, you know, used to be in Louisville.”

R13. 12/28/40 Saturday 1 A.M. Rabbi [429] to EC:

Dear Friend,

“Just returned from [4162]‘s home, where I saw [459] and [1856] and [2444], and though it is late, feel I would like to jot at least part of a letter to you before going to bed, as the years roll on and we procrastinate writing…

“[459] and [1856] were at my Services tonight and we memorialized [459]‘s father, […].

“[2444] is quite a young lady, tomorrow night she is going to her first formal - and [1856] is studying hard - I hope nothing prevents him from becoming a rabbi.

“My daughter, […], is now 8 1/2 years old, and is visiting over in New York with my mother and sisters and also with my wife’s uncle and aunt.

“And my wife, […], is down at Miami Beach getting a badly needed vacation… She has been working hard the last three years - In Jan. 1939 she purchased a girls’ summer camp located on Warner’s Lake in the Helderberg mountains, near Albany, N.Y., on terms giving her ten to twelve years to pay off - she has had two very successful summers and I believe we are out of the woods.

“On Nov. 15 we celebrated our tenth year here [Supplying the pulpit left vacant by Rabbi [4159]‘s death] and the congregation evidenced great affection for both of us.

“I have just been looking at your photograph - I hope the years have been treating you kindly, and that in spiritual development and satisfaction as well as in health, you and yours have been blessed by the Eternal Spirit, the Almighty God.

“Just a heart to heart chat, dear friend, as the impulse came, and here’s wishing you and your dear ones a 1941 of good health, of continued expansion of your work and of great spiritual satisfaction.”

R14. 5/13/42 Mrs. [459]‘s letter to EC: “I just heard from son [1856]. He has been invited to assist Rabbi [429] in …, N.J. for the holidays.”

R15. 1/27/43 Rabbi [429]‘s letter to Mrs. Judy Chandler A.R.E. Regional Representative] who participated in program of A.R.E. in N.Y.C. Jan. 20—24 - EC lectured at Hotel McAlpin:

“I was greatly thrilled to hear your address at the meeting at the Hotel McAlpin last Wednesday night.

“There was something so vital about your presentation of the subject - that I feel greatly uplifted.

“It is my own philosophy of life that we are all sparks of the divine essence of life. Too often, like sparks, we begin to grow cold.

“It is then that the influence of a man like Mr. Cayce or a woman like yourself, becomes so important.

“God bless you for all of the fine work you are doing.”

B1. 3/6/30 “As I told you when I saw you here in N.Y., I have been feeling very despondent about a number of things lately. But I found it rather difficult to crystallize my thoughts so as to put questions to you intelligently. Within the last few days, however, certain developments have occurred that will require decisive action on my part.
