GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time. You will diagnose the case thoroughly, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
Now, we find there are abnormal conditions in the physical functioning of this body, and this abnormal functioning produces those conditions that bring to the mental forces those of improper incentives, and the mental reaction from same is distorted.
-
Now, these are conditions as we find them with this body, [4342], we are speaking of. First:
-
IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, the supply very good. That as has been given in the system for the assisted eliminations has not produced the normal effect, and we have an improper katabolism produced in the blood from this condition.
-
This may be corrected by leaving off those properties in bromides, or may be changed by the diet.
-
IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, in this we find the seat of the trouble. In times past, in the beginning, as it were, of this earth’s existence, we find the seat of the trouble - not a prenatal or co-genital condition, yet one produced at the birth of the individual and, not corrected, has gradually reached those proportions, by the system attempting to adjust itself, and by the pressure as brought to bear in specific centers - this has produced, through the activities of the system, those of distortion to impressions reached in a portion of the nerve stream, for we find, in the nerve body itself, this composed of different elements. In the main, these are of two different conditions of the same material, yet of different structure in their action in the system. The nerve system proper being a portion of the central nerve center, the brain, with improper distortion - these elements, the gray, the white tissue itself - sets in motion, and when these become unbalanced, or distorted, the reaction in the brain, and hence the activities to those incentives of the physical forces in body become distorted also, and to another mind becomes unbalanced. In this body, the pressure as produced at birth was in the presenting of the body itself, in that known as breech birth, and the pressure was produced in the last lumbar, and the 2nd portion or structure portion of the sacral, and the sacral then producing a pressure to those of the generatory system brought about that enlargement in those centers about these organs in pelvis, that direct connect with the base of the brain in this gland situated there. The thread of same, which traverses the system from brain to the end of the cerebro-spinal cord proper. With the pressure created in this position in this body, with the gradual development of the body, we have then this condition becoming aggravated. In the passing years, we find, as the body developed to the womanhood, this incentive has remained, making or producing in its reaction that of the eccentric, high strung, over activity in every exercise of a mental prodigy, as might be termed. In later years, there came an accident to the end of the spine (four years ago - sixteenth of September, four years ago) which was to the end of the coccyx, that which excited, as it were, these centers in the sacral and lower lumbar. Those reactions, then, are produced through this reaction to the base of the brain - a fullness, or an enlargement, that produces first headaches, then nervous indigestion, then a racking, as it were, to the whole sympathetic system, and an unbalanced mental reaction, and an unbalanced system throughout, see?
-
This the cause, this the condition, and the reactions in the rest of the system produced by those, either that have been applied in properties to RESIST this condition, or those as have been applied through force (which has been very detrimental to the body).
-
To bring about the relief for this condition (for this may be relieved), first the body should be removed from this surrounding, and from this restraint, and through those of perfect relaxation of the body physical, by those of sweat or of wet heat applied - relax the body thoroughly. After such relaxation, OSTEOPATHICALLY, correct by adjustment those conditions in the coccyx, and in the sacral and lumbar region, see? It will be necessary that the relaxation occur at least four to ten times before the correct adjustment may be made, and the whole system relaxed will allow the nerve adjustment in same to become near normal.
-
Give then, internally, after these adjustments have been made, those properties as are found in Mayapple Bitters, in small quantities.
-
Keep up, then, the adjustments osteopathically, and applying once each week, for at least five weeks, those of the rays from the Alpine, set at least twenty-four inches from the body - though these adjustments may, necessarily, be changed, according to the reaction of the body to same.
-
In six weeks the body should be perfectly normal.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 8/21/26 EC’s letter to Aunt:
Miss […] …, Alabama
Dear Miss […]:
I enclose you the reading as was gotten this morning. I certainly am in hopes that it’s going to be possible for you to have these suggestions carried out, for I believe that you will find this condition would be corrected by doing this. I certainly wish it was possible for the doctor whose name you see on the reading to examine the patient, as he has had several years’ experience in the State Hospital in Kentucky. Naturally, the case is very interesting to him, he being, perhaps, one of the first physicians to apply osteopathy and medicine to conditions of this kind and character. I’m hoping we’ll have our place started in the next few months. If we only had it now, I’m sure we would have Miss [4342] perfectly well in six weeks.
Minnie Priester seems to be getting along [Visiting EC’s] the nicest kind. Agnes appreciates your remembering her.
Hoping to have been of some service, and assuring you I desire to be of help if possible, and please don’t hesitate to call on us at any time, and with kindest personal regards from Mrs. Cayce and myself, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
