This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of July, 1929, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [4354] via Gladys Davis.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. L. B. Cayce and Dr. J. E. Miller.]
Time of Reading 3:10 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: [4354] - Yes, we have the body here, [4354]. Now, we find in many respects the body very good in physical ways, yet there are those conditions that have been gradually undermining the physical resistances of the body. These have had to do with conditions existent in the physical forces and specifics as result of other conditions. Then the reaction of these in the body.
-
These, then, are conditions as we find them, and the resultant forces as have been produced by these existent forces. First, we find a body well developed, but overtaxing self in mental and physical ways and manners. Also pressure by lacing in earlier period brought about depressions in the system following the confinement, that has brought structural conditions and disorders resulting from same. These disorders produced an over acid condition in system. The system in consequence, attempting to alleviate self and bring better coordination, brought disturbances with the mucus forces of throat and bronchials through amount of acids and matter thrown off in exhalation. Teeth have become involved, and here some of the poisons as have been carried in system still are thrown off or held by the local condition existent. These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [4354] we are speaking of, as the result of these conditions:
-
IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, this shows the lack of proper eliminations and the resultant pressure as is created in nerve ends, and of conditions existent in the muscular force in the form of, or a character of rheumatic condition, or neurasthenia to a neurotic condition in nerves, produced by pressure. These coming directly (as well as from the condition existent in the poor eliminations of the body) from that existent in the nerve forces of the body as governed from the splenic - splenic nerve system - 5th dorsal plexus, yes. This governing, as seen, those forces as radiate from the upper portion of the pneumogastrics, as well as those of the lower hepatic circulation. In this pressure created there, the improper incentives brought first the effect to the system. The condition in blood brought first the effects to the system. The condition in blood and the poor elimination a RESULT of same - not the cause of same!
-
In the nerve ends, or THE NERVE SYSTEM, this same condition as seen, as caused other disturbances, existent IN FACT; that is, in the 5th dorsal plexus, in the 2nd and 3rd lumbar plexus. These show the effects of conditions existent, and in the LUMBAR plexus we have a form of a lesion existent. While the exterior applications to the system, the massage to the body, has ASSISTED - and alleviates AT TIMES these conditions - the CORRECTION is NECESSARY for the body to come near normal. Also that condition existent in the 5th dorsal region. The CORRECTION of these conditions, we would give them OSTEOPATHICALLY, or osteopathic ADJUSTMENTS - with osteopathic manipulation given twice each week, and with one of these osteopathic manipulation given twice each week, and with one of these treatments ADJUSTMENTS made. The other treatment not so deep, but more of the MUSCULAR reaction.
-
Then, with these changes, there must be made a change in the character of the reaction in the digestive and assimilating system. Also we would make corrections as regarding the conditions as exist in the gums and teeth, from which those radiations come as are causing much disturbance.
-
These, then, will require medicinal properties, manipulations and adjustments, also something for the dental surgeon.
-
The medicinal properties, we would prepare those as is found in Oxy-Crystine [Occy-Crystine] - these taken nominally so that the assimilations become more alkalin in their reaction; as also should be the diet for the body (meaning alkalin diet). The usage of meats, of white breads, and such, should be barred. Only those of wild game or chicken may be used, and these not with grease or greasy reactions. The broths of these are the better. Smothered chicken, baked chicken, or such - but not that fried. Those of the vegetables that are of the alkalin reacting in the system. The Oxy-Crystine should be taken each day. The manipulations should be given at least twice each week, and one of the treatments should be adjustments.
-
Do that, and we will find the near normal conditions coming for this body.
-
Those conditions as for the teeth are the 2nd molar on the upper right side, see? and those in the lower portion to the front and near that known as stomach teeth. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What is the condition of the heart? (A) IT’S alright! Take the conditions as we have given! with the hypogastrics, or the region through the splenic nerve here. We find these are radiations from the secondary nerve or cardiac plexus, with the pressure as may be created in the body through the activity of over acids in the body, and reflexes through the blood supply come to the cardiac forces, and the heart actions are of the nature as at times FULL, but no heart disturbance. Don’t worry about that! It’ll be a long time before this body will ever have HEART trouble! Heart BLOCK might be produced, by that of poisons in the system - but NOT heart trouble.
-
(Q) Is the condition in the foot caused from poor eliminations? (A) Blood gets there and can’t get away. These conditions have been described. Do what we have given if we want to get the body better. We are through.

R1. 7/18/29 EC’s letter:
Mrs. [4354] …, Alabama
My dear Mrs. [4354],
The information as gotten has been mailed to you. I think it will possibly be self-explanatory, but should there be any particular portions that you would like to ask about, please don’t hesitate to write us. I’m sure you will see just what is required. I think the real thing you should do is to come here and spend about three weeks and get straightened out on this. That would be the best thing, for here you could be right under the care of physicians who are in sympathy with the work and who would be able to give you just the things that are suggested; that and nothing more.
I would suggest that you see Dr. Percy Woodall in Birmingham. His office I think is in the First National Bank Building. Dr. Woodall is an osteopath and a regular M.D. You can talk very freely with him concerning the information, as he has had a hundred or more cases under observation that have had readings. I certainly am hoping you will be able to gain just the benefits from this that you are seeking.
Be sure and let us hear from you, and if you can possibly arrange it, come and spend a while with us at the hospital, and let us get this started just right - and possibly save you a lot of trouble later on.
With kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD

R2. 7/28/29 Mrs. [4354]‘s letter to GD:
Dear Gladys:
In comparing the diagnosis of Mr. Cayce with that of Dr. Grapes and Dr. Skinner [Ira Skinner, M.D.?], it is remarkable for the two are so similar. To think of anyone hundreds of miles away being able to describe my case as accurately as Mr. Cayce did makes one wonder how many more undiscovered possibilities are still latent in MAN. There are several things, of course, I do not know - lacing, for instance - tho this could be true. It may be that I laced when I was younger, but this I do not recall. Anyway, I am going to be greatly benefitted, I believe.
Mr. Cayce recommended a Birmingham osteopath, Dr. Woodall, but I have not the time just now to leave my work here so I will continue with Dr. Grapes, who is splendid. The medicine, OXY-[OCCY-]CRYSTINE, prescribed, will, I know, do me good and, as nearly as possible, I will adhere to instructions in the reading. I have the faith and this, of course, is half the battle.
I appreciated the interest Mr. Cayce manifested in me and will ask you to thank him for his letter. I am looking forward with pleasure to my trip to Virginia Beach which I hope will not be like the California trip.
R3. 8/17/29 “I am trying to adhere to instructions contained in the reading and am feeling much better. The medicine is doing me a great deal of good. One of my teeth had already been extracted before receiving the reading. It was a dead tooth and the dentist said had, no doubt, caused some of my trouble. Within a few days I will have all my teeth thoroughly examined, perhaps X-RAYED, and will let you know the outcome.”
R4. 9/29/29 [4354]‘s letter to Secretary of the Cayce Hospital:
Miss Sara C. Atkinson, Secretary, Cayce Hospital, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Miss Atkinson:
Prior to the time that Mr. Cayce gave my physical reading, I had my teeth X-rayed and one tooth extracted; and at the time of my request for a reading, Dr. Nona Grapes was giving me treatments as described in the reading, which proved very beneficial. The medicine, OCCY CRYSTINE, has helped me wonderfully and I expect to take it from time to time as needed. I had never heard of this medicine before and have given the name to several friends who have also been helped.
In October, I will have my teeth examined again to be sure no new trouble has developed since the last examination.
I shall always feel indebted to Mr. Cayce and will certainly call on him again when necessary.
With very best wishes for the success of your hospital, I am
Sincerely, [4354]
