EC: Now, we have a condition here of [4394], … Memorial Hospital, Selma, Alabama. The conditions that exist through this body are close to the separation, and the vital energy in the body is being used up by the over-taxed stimulation of the functioning of the organs of both the organic forces and brain and spirit forces in the body. The stimulation of heart action is causing the plethoric forces in the pulmonary and in the heart action itself to produce the quick respirations that are occurring within the body. Rest will be better obtained by the relaxation of all nerve centers, and the stimulation of the heart action from the cardiac plexus center by manipulation and by strengthening these, than by medicinal properties as taken into the system; for the body must have rest, else we will burn out all of the energy that is at present resisting the ravages of the conditions that exist through the pancrean and spleen action of the body. That is what is causing the pains that first existed through this trunk portion of the body. Use more hot applications to the exterior portion; more cold to the head and more manipulation to these centers to stimulate, rather than medicinal properties taken into the circulation to strengthen organic force, for we are burning out the energy. Do this and follow it closely, or else the gradual weakening will bring about the disintegration of the soul and physical forces of this body. We are through.

R1. 6/30/58 GD’s letter to Mr. [4394]‘s son:
…, Penna.
Dear Mr. […]
Some months ago your friend Dr. J. Gibson Winans, physicist, 3330 Lake Mendota Dr., Madison S, Wisc., visited us and told us that you had said your father received a reading from Edgar Cayce.
We find in our files a reading for Mr. [4394], in Selma, Ala., at the Memorial Hospital on October 25, 1922. Mr. Cayce was in Birmingham at the time and the reading was taken down by a court reporter. The condition must have been very serious, for the reading ends with this statement: “Do this and follow it closely, or else the gradual weakening will bring about the disintegration of the soul and physical forces of this body.”
Would you please tell us, at this late day, just what was the doctor’s diagnosis - was the treatment followed, and did you father pass on shortly or at a much later date? This information is valuable in our program of indexing and preparing the Edgar Cayce readings for possible application in similar emergencies.
I am also wondering if you lived in Selma and if you were related to Mr. [2335]? Selma is also my home town.
We would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis Turner Secretary ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH AND ENLIGHTENMENT, INC. GD
P.S. What was his approximate age at time of the reading?

Miss Gladys Davis Turner, Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., Virginia Beach, Virginia
Miss dear Miss Turner:
I had a very hazy memory that someone had requested Mr. Cayce to do a reading on my father in 1922. All that I knew was that he had a critical heart condition that gave no promise of recovery. He had had some diseased teeth removed which seemed to precipitate the heart condition. I never knew exactly what the diagnosis was. His doctor was Dr. Goodwin Dubose. I understood through my sister that Dr. Dubose did know about the reading which Mr. Cayce did and of course thought it was a fake. As to what the treatment was I have not the slightest idea. I do know that my father died a few weeks later.
Mr. [2335] was a cousin of mine. As a matter of fact he and his wife, […] were very close friends of my family.
When Dr. Winans told me that he was going to Virginia Beach, I then told him what I could remember from the days when I personally knew Mr. Cayce.
Most sincerely, […]
