This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of January, 1931, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [4475], via his mother who visited relatives in Norfolk, the Cayce Hospital, etc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:50 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Georgia. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [4475]. Now, we find there are abnormal conditions in the physical forces of the body. These may be termed a complication of conditions, and deal with the physical forces as related to the psychopathic conditions also in the physical functioning. While there are apparently definite results of some reactions in the system, in others there is little physically to indicate the inertia as apparent in the reflexes or the stamen [stamina?] within the physical functioning as to prevent their nominal or normal reaction. This condition, as we find, has to do most with the conditions existent in the nerve system as related to nerve flexus and plexus as come from a hindrance in the forces in body that produce that which brings resuscitation to physical functioning and physical reactions; yet there is not that withering away that is ordinarily experienced in the extremities or in portions of the body; rather the inabilities of the body to respond to other than SYMPATHETIC reaction, and the inability of plexus to respond to that known in the muscular or nerve reaction as forces of the mental - as they relax to flexus from the SYMPATHETIC system - that makes for those conditions which are voluntary and involuntary reactions in body. Hence the eliminations become so clogged that the effluvia is thrown off through the respiratory system that should be carried through other portions of the body. Many are the responses in the various functionings, yet the inability to use the system in a way and manner produces, then, a full, or partial, or total, collapse of the physical functioning as related to locomotion, or activity in the physical functioning towards locomotion. While the mental reactions are near normal, yet this - as we find - is an effect of a gas in the system, as taken in, that found its response later in the various nerve plexus that are influenced, and HAS influenced the whole of the assimilating and distributing forces of a resuscitating life force in the body itself.
-
In the meeting of the needs of the conditions, we would find that these - under the influence of a material application, psychopathic effect upon the system, and with these continued to a degree where the body might be brought to a near normal reaction, and at least able to care for self IN a manner as to be independent of other forces in the physical reactions about the body.
-
These, as we find, would be found better in the use of that which will set up a coordination of eliminations in the system, that would bring about a reaction that might be builded through the application of varied forms of electrical vibratory forces in system as to build for the stamen [stamina] in the muscular and in nerve flexus, tendons themselves, and also aid the respiratory system to throw off in its proper channels and through its proper manners those conditions, that will make for a proper coordination in the body, [4475].
-
This we would find in the use of the fume baths, as would be from Epsom Salts, with rubdowns following of witchhazel combined with olive oil, and cleansing this with an alkaloid or with alcohol afterward. Also manipulations, osteopathically given, to produce a sympathetic reaction between cerebro-spinal and sympathetic system. Cleanse the colon, so that all infused forces - or refused forces - are kept in a more ORDERLY, or a proper eliminating way and manner; not as to increase the fleshy portions of body without regard to the effect had upon the locomotory centers throughout the system. In the varied applications of an electrical vibration, we will find that in the beginning the sinusoidal would be necessary in the extremities, making for the short and reverse coil vibratory forces, beginning in muscular reflexes in the lower portion of body in one treatment, and the hands and arms in the next treatment, reversing in the next to the opposite limbs, gradually carrying same towards the body; and with this continuation for a period we would find better coordination coming and application of the body to care more for self, with the nearer proper reactions coming and the stamen [stamina?] gradually building up.
-
In the psychopathic effect - these would come more from the surroundings of the body, as these are applied; NOT merely through suggestion but through the lives or the activities of those associated with the body, as the applications are made for the physical. Such, as we find, may be done through an institution - or such an one that may be in sympathy with, or carrying out those ideals or principles that are set through such information. Following these occasionally, we will find that the various changes may be given through these sources for that necessary to meet the needs from change, or cycle to cycle, as conditions are developed. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) How often should fume baths be given? (A) At least twice each week. The sinusoidal should be given alternately one week twice a week, the next week once. The manipulations should be given at least following each fume bath or rubdown.
-
(Q) Any advice regarding diet? (A) As indicated, that which makes more for stamen [stamina?] and for nerves’ re-energy, than for simply fat or building in the system, other than stamen [stamina?] to muscular forces, nerve reflexes, and such.
-
(Q) Where can body get treatment, that the surroundings would be best? (A) As outlined, where those applying the treatments are in sympathy with that as may be given through these channels, or such sources.
-
We are through for the present.

Mr. Edgar Cayce.
Dear Sir.
I received your letter and reading of Jan. 13th.
I am well satisfied with the reading as far as I can understand it. My wife, mother or myself could not understand the medical terms used very well.
So my mother suggested that I ask you if you could write me a report of it in more simple terms. If it is impossible for you to do this then I will take the reading to a good physician down town and get him to explain it to me.
Also please give me the following information, could you give me the treatments at your hospital there?
How many weeks treatments do you think would be necessary?
And about how much per week would it cost me? Of course I would go in a ward, as my income has been very small for several years. I would like very much for you to treat me if I can make financial arrangements to come there. Thanking you in advance for the above information.
I remain Very Respectfully [4475]
(Please excuse the paper.)

Dear Mr. [4475]:
I’m sure you feel that we are very negligent in our correspondence, as I haven’t replied to yours of January 27th. As your request was more respecting entrance to the hospital, or arrangements therefor, I have been unable to reply to you as to just the status - owing to some change in policies by those who have been the financial backers. However, there is to be a meeting of this Board on the 26th of this month, and if you are still interested after the first of March will you please write me again? I’ll then be glad to communicate with you. I feel very sure the work is going on in some manner. Other institutions in the north are taking care of some of our patients. The financial stress has curtailed the contributions, which has made hit hard for the institution here. I’m sure this is a very poor explanation, but bear with us just for the time being - and drop me a line soon after the first.
Trusting you are feeling fine, and that the delay will not be of material detriment to you - and with kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD

Mr. Edgar Cayce,
Dear Sir.
I received your letter of Feb. 20th and am very sorry to hear that financial conditions over the country have caused some curtailment in contributions for your Hospital, and I sincerely hope that the financial backers at the meeting on Feb 26 made some kind of arrangements for you to continue there at the Hospital, as I feel that you have done and will do a lot more good for humanity.
About all I can do is wish you and yours good luck.
If you can do anything about me entering the Hospital for treatment please advise me, if not, no hard feelings at all.
I remain Very Respectfully [4475]
R4. 3/17/31 EC’s letter:
Atlanta, Ga.
Dear Mr. [4475]
Replying to yours of the 6th, I don’t know just how soon we will get started with the institutional work here again. If you will keep in touch with us, it may be possible to make some arrangements for the treatments to be followed here
- or, suggestions might be made for your carrying out the treatments under the supervision of some of your local people there. Our whole desire is to be of help, and if we can in any way I certainly hope you will let us hear from you.
With kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD
