This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 28th day of May, 1934, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [448], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 11:45 to 11:55 A.M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes. Eating.
-
Yes, we have the body here, [448]; this we have had before. Not so much change in the general physical forces of the body and their reactions from that we have last had here.
-
While there are some improvements in the PHYSICAL forces of the body, the mental and its reaction upon the applications made for corrections - producing disappointing activities in the body - has its effect. Yet, as we find, there has not been the adherence to those things that were outlined for the body, in a consistent and persistent manner, save for ONLY a short time.
-
And, as the very nature of the disturbance has been for the tendency of an atrophied condition in ganglia and centers, and there has not been the stimulation sufficient for the creating of the impulses to revive or revivify those portions, the improvement has not been in the directions as was even suggested.
-
Let’s for the moment analyze conditions-physical, conditions-mental, and that necessary for improvements in such an application.
-
Whenever there was given the spiritual healing, either from Elijah, Elisha, Samuel or the Master, did the individuals obtain it by conforming to the suggestions made - or did they receive the healing by conforming to the suggestions halfheartedly and in part?
-
Would a dipping in Jordan six times have healed Naaman? [2 Ki. 5:14]
-
Would the breathing once into the body of the widow of Zarephath’s son have brought life? [1 Ki. 17:21]
-
Did the clay and the washing of same in Siloam heal, or was it all a story? John 9:7, 11]
-
Did the offering of those sacrifices required for the leprous heal those people to whom the Master gave, “Present thyself to the priest with the offering according to thy law”? [Luke 17:14]
-
What is the law in material things?
-
Ye are subject to those laws under which the conditions have been brought about in thine body, in thine mind! The SPIRIT IS willing, the flesh IS weak.
-
That an impingement brought the lack of impulse to the body [448] is a fact. And the application of only a portion of the treatment suggested is the same as dipping once or twice.
-
Either apply that given, or make thine self as one that, “I know, but I won’t do it.”
-
In making the application in the present, then, let’s turn for the present to this:
-
See that the applications of the Radio-Active Appliance are in order, all connections in line. It IS necessary that there be the cold from ice in order to make the correct applications, but these may be given correctly.
-
And go to Dobbins - without cost, without price - and let him MAKE the adjustments, and the applications of the rubs as given, that the vibrations to create a balance in the circulation may be effective.
-
Do that.
-
It is WORTH MAKING the try. Or forget it altogether.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 5/29/34 EC wrote Mr. [448] advising him to take all his rdgs. to Dr. Dobbins and discuss them with him, and to let EC know whether or not the directions were going to be followed. [A copy of this letter was sent to Mr. [333].]
R2. 6/17/34 Mr. [333]‘s ltr.: “I did not take any action in regard to your ltr. to Mr. [448] until he brought it up as I felt that should come from him. I knew prior to receiving your ltr. that they had discontinued the treatments and that fact, plus much that had been said, was anything but helpful to anyone interested. However, your ltr. and the rdg. which you so kindly gave has apparently been of much help. The treatments are under way again and are bringing results. I checked up on the battery and repaired a poor connection and this seems to be helping a great deal. We secured a vibrator which has been in use about a wk. and in fact I ran over and gave him a tr. with it this morning early. He usually has this tr. and the massage before breakfast, as was true this morning. They wanted us to see their rdg. and help them with it. The suggestion coming from them, I phoned Dr. Dobbins and arranged to meet him in his office. I found him to be an unusually fine fellow and we spent about an hour discussing the [448] case as well as the [255]‘s, [275]‘s, Mrs. [509] and Mr. [442]. All of these people are friends of his. It was impossible, however, to make any arrangement for Dr. Dobbins to assist in the [448] case, for the reason that [448] could not be taken in to Dr. Dobbins’ office every other day, and no arrangements could be made for him to live in the city or in Staten Island where the doctor lives. Of course we could not expect the doctor to come out to L.I. to the [448] home. Dr. Dobbins said that he would have been only too glad to give the tr. free of cost and would have considered it a wonderful opportunity for him to handle such a case. He seemed to feel certain that if the information given in the rdgs. was carefully followed that the results as promised would be fulfilled.”
R3. 6/20/34 Mr. [448]‘s ltr. [no doubt dictated?]: “Dear Bro. Cayce: Your letter, reading and card rec’d. I thank you for your kind attention to me. I hope you have heard from Mr. [333] before this, as he said he would write you and let you know that we had at once started the full tr. again and are looking for results this time.
“Not to be unthoughtful of our Heavenly Father, but I doubt if at the time of the Bible quotations referred to in the rdg. they had the winter we had here to go through this year, and now the weather is very cold for laying for the rub, but I will do it now or freeze.
“Would like to attend meeting but not this year [June Congress]. Perhaps next.
“Would you care to advise me again after, say, 60 days?
“Thanking you again, and with best wishes for your meeting,” Mr. [448]
R4. 6/22/34 EC’s ltr.: “It may be impractical for you to get to Dr. Dobbins’ office very often, but if you can get in, say, once in every two wks. or twice a mo. and let him give you a thorough tr. and an adjustment, that, combined with the others, should make this much speedier for you, and if you follow the information you should get the results, and I am sure they told you, if you haven’t been able to see him yourself, that there will be no charge.
“It is quite marvelous that we have the wholehearted cooperation of a man who is as capable as Dr. Dobbins, and those who may have advantage of his services, I am sure, will be quite in their own light not to take advantage of same.
“It no doubt will be very much better taking the rubs and treatments than it was when it was so cold. I am looking to hear great things from you.
“We certainly want to keep a check on the general conditions, whether it is 30 or 60 days or however often necessary, and our experience has shown us that where individuals are consistent and persistent with following the suggestions they do get results, and this we want to see you do.”
R5. 7/30/34 Dr. Dobbins’ ltr. to EC: “Mr. [448] is coming into the office tomorrow to see me. We just couldn’t seem to get together before, as he lives so far away. I suggested that he take a place in Staten Island for a few months where I could treat him every day.”
R6. 8/5/34 Mr. [333]‘s ltr.: “The trip in to Dr. Dobbins with the [448]‘s was quite successful. They were much pleased and the doctor was very sympathetic and helpful, also very emphatic about some things that [448] must do to help himself, also to help others in aiding him. I think the experience was good and worth repeating.
“We cannot have this repetition until after Labor Day, however, as the doctor is vacationing in Maine.”
