This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 105th Street & Ocean, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of October, 1931, in accordance with request made by self, through Miss B. B. Sidelman.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:25 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [4482], and those conditions as surround the body.
-
In the physical forces we find there are disturbing factors that need that awakening, for the better physical forces to function in the material way, as well as those in the spiritual manner; for when physical conditions have been builded by disorders to that extent to where they become active forces with active principles within themselves, then the necessary elements for that awakening - that the balance may be brought to a physical body - must come from without, as WELL as from within, that the consciousness of a well-being may be awakened within that body-consciousness.
-
These, as we find here, are from poor eliminations that have existed in the system for times back, and having builded those conditions which make for - in the body-functioning - those places where the activity of toxic forces are active WITHIN the body-functioning, make for distresses in the form of neuritis and rheumatism in the organs themselves. These elements and these conditions that have been named, or as are named, become then active forces for a body, with their resultant reaction in a physical body.
-
We would find were the diet, and the reactions from things taken in system, more of the alkalin - with those added vibrations of the high electrical vibration - these will bring about a better physical condition for the body.
-
While these are active in the system, well that there be kept that continued attitude of SEEING the body replenished, rebuilded, in a mental, a spiritual, and a material way and manner. This held by the body-consciousness as seeing these things accomplished, will aid ALSO in the correcting in the physical forces of the body.
-
These we would apply as in this manner: We would take alternately - that is, one dose of one one day, one dose of another the next day - those properties in Milk of Magnesia, the next day Milk of Bismuth, the next day the Phenolax. We would take EACH day, also, those vibrations from the VIOLET ray, this taken in the beginning for three to five minutes - for the first day - particularly over the cerebro-spinal system, following OUT those centers where the disorders in the lower limbs and in the extremities of the body cause disorders at times; gradually increasing this one to two minutes until at least fifteen to twenty minutes of the vibration may be taken.
-
These, we will find, will bring for the physical body the nearer normal elements and activities for the body-consciousness, for the mental forces of the body, for the physical body itself, [4482]. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Will the electric treatment I have been using be of any real help in relieving the painful condition? (A) Taken in the manner as has been outlined here, with the properties as bring about the better eliminations for the system, would - as we find - be more effective.
-
(Q) Is there any real success in my work to be attained? (A) As the body is aided physically, as the body is able to see itself gradually getting PHYSICALLY better and sees that as is the desire of the heart builded in the lives of those whom the body contacts, so may there be success for the body in bringing those necessary elements in the material life to see the success necessary for body, and physical, and mental, and material and spiritual development.
-
(Q) Will the “Blue Bird” of happiness ever make its nest on my path? (A) This depends upon self. As there is prepared, by the activities of self in the lives and consciousness of others, that that brings happiness to others, so will it bring those things that make for happiness, peace, love and understanding in the heart and the mind of the body.
-
We are through for the present.

B1. 3/18/31 Letter from [4482] to EC; from Hotel Somerset, 150 West 47th St., N.Y.C.: “I have heard so much of you through Mr. Kahn, and Miss Sidelman, that, at the suggestion of the latter, I am writing to ask if you will extend to me the help in which I am of such dire need. For the past five years I have been under the influence or control, of the most malignant and cruel forces - ill-health - an unsuccessful operation, deafness - and worst of all, continued and enforced idleness, with no means of support, and I am just about at the end of my endurance - unflagging energy and effort are useless - every door is barred - hurts, humiliations, insults, disappointments, in every direction. I have made a name for myself - in the theatre - in England, France, S. Africa, and Australia, and America. But in spite of my admitted reputation and standing as an artist (and teacher) I cannot find work of any sort. If you will give me a reading at your earliest convenience, and trust to my good faith and honesty to pay you the very moment I can earn it - I will appreciate it, from the depths of my heart. With grateful thanks for the anticipated help, I am…”
B2. 3/18/31 Letter from Miss Sidelman to EC re. forming new A.R.E.: “There is also a Miss [4482] who is sorely in need of help and I know that a reading is the only thing that can help her. Unfortunately, finances prevent. There should be some provision made, at the time the new organization is formed, to provide for cases of this kind, - people whom a reading would help, to get on their feet, physically, mentally and financially, and who would consider it a moral obligation to pay as soon as they could.”
B3. 3/21/31 EC’s letter to Miss Sidelman: “I am also in receipt of a letter from Miss [4482]. Please understand me when I say this - but such cases as Miss [4482] are mighty hard to handle. You should be able to realize this better than anyone else, under the circumstances, for I’m sure you know there is no one we would rather help than you or yours - yet we have made not only one but several attempts to get these readings for your parents, and each time it has proven a failure. Now why, I do not know - but there is SOMETHING. It ISN’T the money part, no - but there’s something else. Now, in Miss [4482]‘s case, the press of the moment is going to be so great that unless we could tell her where she could get a job the next day, I’m afraid a reading would mean very little to her, and unless we were to maintain something of a bureau for aiding individuals in this direction, it would be mighty hard to handle. Don’t understand that I am kicking against people being referred to us, but people in such a position as this need something else besides a spiritual reading - they need more of the material things of life. Just how to balance these together is going to be one of the main problems at this meeting. To be sure, this is only to be a pre-organization meeting, to set out the real purposes of an organization to be formed later. There are so many phases to be considered, and we want to strike that happy medium where we can be of the most service to the MOST people, irrespective of our individual interests - for they are to be thought of last.”
B4. 3/21/31 EC’s letter to Miss [4482]: “I am just in receipt of yours of the 18th, and I will have to admit I hardly know how to answer you at this time. We are just in a state of transformation ourselves as regarding the manner of presenting the information to the public, in a way that it will be of the most service to the most people. Until the 6th of April our time is wholly and completely taken up. After that time I feel it is going to be necessary for me to be away for a few days; consequently, it would be the middle of April before I could make a definite appointment. Now, I would like very much to try to be of help. I do not know just how much we can help, but I would like very much to try. I know that for one in the circumstances you intimate, to be put off makes you inclined to feel we are trying to shift the burden of responsibility. I want to assure you that is not my purpose, but so many things are crowding in just at the present time I can’t say otherwise.
“If you will write me again sometime after the 12th - or if it is possible for you to arrange to talk with me when I am in N.Y. the week of the 6th - perhaps we can arrange an appointment.
“I appreciate Mr. Kahn and Miss Sidelman talking with you, and I assure you I would like to help if it is possible…”
B5. 4/6/31 Miss Sidelman’s letter: “In regard to [4482], I believe that what she needs is a physical reading to help her deafness, and to find out one thing - just why it is she cannot get a job; she’s really desperate, but I am trying to help her as much as I possibly can. She is looking forward to meeting you, but I have explained the situation to her, just what to expect.”
B6. 5/24/31 Letter verifying appointment: “I would like to know if my physical condition, due to ineffective operation, will ever improve. Should I attempt to wear a supporter, or would that be injurious? Is the use of an electric vibrator helpful or harmful? If I err in writing these questions, please forget them. I cannot tell you how grateful I shall be for your kind help.”
B7. 5/29/31 GD’s letter to [4482]: “This morning I wired you, so that you would not be expecting the reading. Mr. Cayce has been quite ill all week, but had expected to be able to give your reading this morning at the time appointed. However, he is still unable to give readings, and I don’t think he will be able before next week. Consequently, all the appointments we have on hand will necessarily be changed. We regret very much not being able to keep the appointment for your reading, for we realize how anxious you are, but you know how such things are. When Mr. Cayce goes along for several weeks and gives out so much of his energy to others, he just has to take a few days now and then to recoup.
“Just as soon as he is able to be at his desk again, he will write to you and make another appointment.
“Hoping that you will understand and bear with us…”
B8. 9/19/31 EC’s letter to [4482]: “I am sure you have despaired of our ever thinking of you any more. We have let so much time go by, and have promised you so often, I’m afraid you have lost patience with us - but if it is satisfactory with you, we will make the appointment for the morning of Friday, the 25th, between 11:00 and 12:00 o’clock Eastern Standard Time. As you know, it is necessary for us to have your exact address or location for the hour set. If there are any special questions you would like to have asked in the reading, make note of them and send them along too. We will get the physical first and see if we can get straightened out in that direction.
“Hoping the time is satisfactory, and that you haven’t lost ALL your faith and confidence, and with very best wishes…”
B9. 9/22/31 She submitted questions, verifying appointment.
B10. 9/25/31 She wired she was compelled to be on stage in the theatre at the hours set, and requested another appointment.
B11. 9/29/31 Letter: “In spite of the ‘jinx’ that seems to be pursuing me, I will be in my room on Fri, Oct. 2nd. I was terribly upset at the unfortunate occurrence of last week but was powerless to prevent it. I appreciate deeply your kind effort to help me, and feel sure that you will.”
