GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time. You will diagnose the case thoroughly, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
Now, we find there are some specific conditions, some minor conditions, and some of those of the nature that should be corrected, for the better development and for the normal functioning of the body.
-
In these changes, as will be made through the adjustments of those conditions as need correcting, we will find there will be many various minor conditions to overcome.
-
In the cause, then, we find this as the greater trouble - these also the effects as are produced by this condition.
-
In some time back there was that condition brought about wherein, in the 2nd and 3rd lumbar, and in the 12th and 11th dorsal, there is a subluxation between these two - one to the side, and one subluxated, or one down. These cause pressure on the nerve system. Hence that peculiar condition as has existed as regarding the digestion, as regarding the eliminations in the system - the dull, laggard feeling felt at times, the inability to find anything exactly agreeing with the body, acting in the way wherein never quite satisfied, yet ever desiring to do the best. These are reflections from the refractory reaction of these subligations, as they act on the nerve system, on the digestive system, on the circulation, and the general forces in the body - never causing, as it were, any DIRECT distress, save as the dull mean headaches, and trouble with the eyes as come from time to time - yet these, as we see, are of a reflex nature.
-
Then, to overcome the condition, we would, through the correct adjustment of these conditions, chiropractically or osteopathically, bring about the normal straightening, or normal condition, in the cerebro-spinal region - keeping the diet in the way wherein the general rebuilding will be for better blood, purer blood, better eliminations, and we will find the body, through the normal exercise as is ever necessary for the development of any physical body, will be brought about in such a way that the normal forces will manifest and show themselves through such conditions.
-
The adjustments should be at least eight to ten, or until these are corrected properly.
-
Do that.
-
We are through for the present.

REMARKS:
(You will please state in the space below how near, in your opinion, reading fits your condition, as you know it yourself, and if you expect to carry out the suggestions made for the improvement of your health.)
The reading given by you for [4525] fitted him exactly. After he read it over he says to me, “Mother, that is my feeling exactly, I think it is marvelous how…found my trouble.” He is now working in a drug store between the hours of 9 and 7 o’clock, and as soon as he can arrange his noon hour at a convenient time for the doctor, he will begin the chiropractor treatments. And just to think, this doctor told him that as long as it was necessary to give the treatments, he would do it, and would not charge him a penny. Isn’t that kind and good of him? Though everybody is kind and good to me and my boys. Lots of love to you and your family.

R3. 2/17/42 [4525]‘s letter to EC:
I’ve heard Granny [1181], Aunt [1690], Aunt [715] and my Mother talk about you and the good you have prescribed for others. I’ve often sat and studied and wondered about your wonderful gift, possibly I should say power to prescribe for the sick and distressed as you do.
My mother […] is not a well woman and I have wanted her to ask you to give her a reading but she dreads to know the worst, possibly not as bad as she thinks. She is always trying to diagnose her own case instead of consulting a Doctor.
I would like to ask a question, do hope you will understand me in asking it. I scarcely know anything about your prescribing, nor what kind of cases you take, whether anything except human beings. Anyway my subject is a poor little Cocker Spaniel dog, that I am so attached to. You may say, I am ridiculous, absurd but I do hope you will not say insulting for that is not my object, above all, please, please do not get offended at my ignorance, but I’m just plain human, I have a feeling for both human beings and dumb animals, God created both. I have no children and have adopted this little dumb animal to share my attention and have become so attached to him, I feel I can hardly stand to see him suffer. What I want to know, is it possible for you to read or diagnose this pet’s case.
Again may I ask that you please not take this as an insult, just answer, yes or no, and if so what are your charges? I’ll be delighted to hear from you and would like so much to know you as a Cousin, although it is a second Cousin, you must be marvelous. A self addressed and stamped envelope is herewith enclosed. Please do not misunderstand me. I know you must have all of the human beings you can wait on and possibly have never been approached about animals, so I may be the first to break the ice. Anyway let me know as soon as possible what you can do for me. Hoping someday to know you better, I am, [4525]
R4. 2/19/42 EC’s letter to [4525]:
Dear [4525]:
Very glad to have yours of the 17th - is most like a voice out of the past to hear from you, while haven’t seen or heard from your mother in years, have always thought a great deal of her, would like very much to meet and know you. Glad to know the folks have spoken kindly of me to you - am sending under separate cover, [4525], some data relative to the work this will explain it better than ever could by letter.
No, have had many requests for such readings as you asked for
- but have never undertaken such; there seems always to be so much to be done to try and help our fellow man, seem never to have had the time for such. Oh I realize there are many who are just as anxious about their pets as others are about their children but have never been able to persuade myself to undertake such when so many children are so in need, and am very limited even to the number am even able to try and help, tho have been doing the work for 40 odd years now have not been able to increase the number can try and help.
Read over the data carefully and think you will get some idea as to what it is all about, and why have to say no many times when people ask me.
Be glad to make a reading for your Mother if she wishes it - would not unless she wished it.
After you have read the booklet if interested would be glad to hear from you - don’t think anyone appreciates their kin more than I and would like to know you better, have always, as said, thought a great deal of your Mother, and knew your Father well also.
Thank you for your interest, and hope to hear from you again
Your Cousin, Edgar Cayce

Background
Background
B1. 8/4/26 Mother’s letter:
I have a boy, [4525] who is 14 years old, will be 15, December 4th. He has always been a very bright boy, a splendid mind, can learn anything, quick, full of pep and energy, but is and always has been thin, though his bones and joints seem to be plenty large to his age, but just no flesh at all scarcely. He has never been a person who eats very much, but for the past year he has had no appetite scarcely at all, and for the past six months complains of feeling tired all the time, but rarely ever gives up, has that [5086] pep in him and goes until he drops. He seems to be a little nervous and I see that he is irritable quite often and is easy to make cry. I talk to him about it and HE comes to me and talks about it, and he says “Mother I just cannot help being cross sometimes it seems, I feel so badly and for the same I reason I cannot control myself about crying.” Now this is not his disposition, for he was born even tempered and of a sweet, gentle, disposition and very affectionate. Just as thoughtful and polite to me and other people as he can be, and will always put himself last to do for others. As I have said about his appetite, he has never been a body to eat everything. He likes lots of milk, sweets and little delicacies. Eats very little meats, bread and vegetables. I have tried to force flesh and muscle making eats on him by denying him his likes, but I believe he would actually starve before he would eat just anything.
Of course you know I have not been able to indulge them in the things that so many boys of today are indulged in, such as amusements and pleasures and an allowance of money each week, and etc., though he understands that and is so sweet about it. They have never enjoyed the hikes, camps and swims, bicycles and etc. that the boys of today enjoy, while all of his running mates do enjoy these things, and in a way it seems to be a disappointment to him, so he is getting so now he does not seem to care to be with other boys as he used to.
If he passes this term at school, he will be ready for High School in the spring. I believe he is at the age where possibly nature needs some assistance, I know it is not abuse for I have talked to them about this ever since they were large enough to understand, and he has a horror of such, and I have watched him carefully along this line. I notice that he doesn’t seem to be made up, just exactly right, not as his younger brother who is 2-1/2 years younger than he is, and I wonder if a slight operation is necessary, and also that his age needs assistance.
I believe I have told you about all I can think of about his case as I understand it, and I am going to ask you the great favor, of at your earliest convenience that you are at leisure, to give a reading of his case and see what can be done for him. He is very much disturbed about himself and since knowing what you have done for others, he is so anxious to have you look him over, and he says some day when you get to be an old man, he possibly will be able to do something for you or yours in return.
