This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 20th day of March, 1936, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [464], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:55 to 12:00 Noon Eastern Standard Time. …, Ohio. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes.
-
As we find, the body feels better at times then at others there is a great deal of distress.
-
We would find that the rubs and the use of the eliminants as indicated would be the more helpful for the body in the present conditions.
-
When the emergencies arise, or those dizzinesses or feelings of swimming in the head, we find that the use of the Radio-Active Appliance would be MOST helpful for keeping a normal equilibrium. But it requires that there be the precautions that the water from the ice solution does not get ABOVE the top of the Appliance, and that the anodes or attachments to the opposite extremities be kept clean - or cleansed before each application. Make the attachment of same for an hour at a time, especially just before the body would rest in the evening; or whenever the body feels tired, the application of the Appliance will keep a normal equilibrium.
-
The eliminants that aid in draining the gall duct, acting upon the liver, are necessary.
-
Be mindful of the diet, but when there are those foods taken that have been at times disturbing to the better digestion, do not eat too large a quantity. The mixtures of the combinations are more disturbing than specific diets.
-
Massage the oils in the lumbar and lower dorsal area; these are the more helpful.
-
Do that. Ready for questions.
-
We are through with this reading.

R1. 3/24/36 Mrs. [464]‘s ltr. to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I received the reading to-day. I did all that I was advised to do in the first reading, but it said nothing about keeping up eliminations, but to use the Atomidine for no specified time, but that you would send directions later on for the general use to strengthen the body. So I wrote for another reading for these directions and it says to keep on with the eliminations. How often am I to take these Zilatone tablets and that soda water and the Castoria? There must be a limit to the use of these things. There was nothing said in the second reading in accordance with the first reading. I am more or less confused as to the Radio-Active Appliance. I don’t know where I am to get the $18.00 to pay for it, unless I steal it. These things are always expensive. I guess I will have to let it go. I am afraid I am a little disappointed. I am in a morbid state of mind anyway and all things look dark to me. The winter has been too long and dreary and it still keeps cold, and we are due for another cold spell, so the radio said this morning. I think you have done your best by me and the rest can’t be helped. So I will just let things slide along. Many thanks to you all.
Yours most sincerely, Mrs. [464]
P.S. Sorry you had that trouble in Detroit. None of us seem to escape it. I feel that I have had all the hell I deserve right here on earth. I have had 20 years or more of it. Times when I scarcely knew if we’re coming or going. Even [husband] said I had more than my share. I couldn’t believe my ears. He is so indifferent to me and my sicknesses, I scarcely see him for days at a time. He hates sickness and won’t come near me any more than he can help, so that’s that.
R2. 4/8/36 [464]‘s ltr.:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
This is the 8th of April, 40 years ago [husband] and I were married on this date. In some ways it seems a long time; then again not so long. It seems long when I think of my home in Canada. So many changes have taken place. Well, you will want to know how things are going with me. I found that I could not do this thing alone so I went to see Dr. Case who lives in walking distance of our place on 90th St., and he is giving me the once over. They gave me a blood test, urinal test, blood pressure, heart-action. My blood pressure was 200, the report of the others I have not heard yet. I have had two electrical treatments. Dr. gave me quite a bit of encouragement - what I needed. I am feeling better in mind than in body. I will let you know how I get along. I am not so good on walking yet - don’t attempt to do much on account of my heart. It behaves awful bad at times. My head feels better. He said to his assistant “all Mrs [464] has to do is get better.” Dr. Case is a medical doctor, an elderly man with plenty of experience.
We haven’t had a chance to look at the gardens. Snow, blow and cold all the time. Last night we had an awful wind storm with snow. I froze. I was afraid for the hardy plants that are all up. But they don’t seem to mind. I did lose my choice Iris.
Well, kind regards to all, Mrs. [464]
R3. 5/4/36 [464]‘s ltr.:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
This is the morgue. Be glad you are not here. But I suppose there has been times when you have felt the same way. I am waiting for my bill from the Doctor so I will know where I am at. You know I went to see Dr. Case as I said I was going to and promised to tell you all about it. Well my visit was to be more on the experimental plan than as a regular visit. I am no wiser to-day than I was when I last wrote to you. When I went to his office I was so nervous I shook so with the palsy I couldn’t control myself and my heart was turning summersaults. He said “now there is a cause for this nervous condition & we must find that out.” That was a Saturday night. I went to see him and he said “I must study this out and I want you to come here Monday for treatment electrical.” So when Monday came he had his office girl call me up and tell me to go out to Huron Road Hospital & see him there. So I had to take a taxi way out there and he kept me there waiting 3 hours & I was a wreck & he said, “this is a good test for your nerves.” I thot [thought] plenty but in the meantime they tooka blood test and a urinal test & when I asked for the results he said “oh nothing that would interfere with my treatments here.” That was rather vague I thot. Well he gave me some tablets to take for my nerves and some for night and morning & they both made me sick - worse than nature made me - so I gave them up and got out.
Dr. Leavett’s book on mental science & that helped me a lot. So I didn’t get the treatment I wanted when I went to see him. He is a pompous old guy and powerful sure of himself and I am not going to be a sucker like some of those folks are. You know I was talking to a woman in his office who had been going there every day for 3 years. She said she was so nervous they had to carry her in there at first and now she can go any where she likes but I thot when I saw her she acted worse than I did in a way & I told [daughter] when I came home that this woman was a nervous wreck now, what could she have been at first? And she said to me “if you are nervous you have come to the right place” & I thot come here every day for 3 years - I don’t believe I could do it. So I am no further ahead than I was before I went.
I wanted static electric treatments and he wouldn’t give them to me. He said I was not in condition for them so I am up a tree again & don’t know what to do.
We had 2 or 3 hot days & I was feeling powerful frisky for me and I went outdoors when my body was warm, stepped in a breeze and caught an awful cold. It settled on my chest and I had to fight for my breath all day to-day. It is just one thing right after another. I surely picked up some while going up there but my heart bothers me. I don’t know if my heart causes the nervousness or if the nerves upset the heart. I only see the Dr. once in a while. He has been very sick himself. My oh my, how much sickness there is. That place takes care of 2 or 3 dozen patients a day or more. He gives all kinds of electrical treatments and the lamps. My treatment is a steel rod in my hands for about 15 minutes. I don’t know as I feel so much better for the treatment. I feel better because I think I have put one over on myself by going up there. Wouldn’t you just know it. My conscious mind and my subconscious mind are like a team of horses with a load & they don’t pull together so what can one expect?
Every night [husband] was coming home with a long face & he had me all stirred up over his difficulties. He had to go to an eye specialist then a foot doctor and then an ear man. He is so deaf and so hard to talk to that we are all on the ragged edge. Nearly every thing we try to tell him we have to repeat it 4 or 5 times & then maybe he looks at us with a vacant look & says “huh?” I have had to talk to more deaf people the last few years that I am getting that way myself.
[2144] had a bitter pill to swallow here very recently and she feels glum. So that is why I call this house the Morgue. [Husband] feels better. The foot doctor fixed his feet up fine. He has new glasses and I don’t know about the ear. It is so important and so doubtful, we are kind of an all bunged up family. I should have taken your advice. I did do all you told me to in this last first reading of the two but the second one didn’t strike me so good and I felt that I had to have help with it. I have a feeling that Dr. Case drags his patients out so long on purpose. He must know that some powerful auto-suggestions given along with his treatments in the right direction would clear up a lot of things in short time. He has an expensive establishment there. A large building with 3 floors runs away back from the front entrance and I guess he needs a good income to keep it going. He seems to get it alright. I wish I had one like it. But the doctor is good. His patients all think a lot of him. He is a jolly old codger, his wife is nice too. I like her fine. She waits on me when I go there.
My garden is all up fine, what there is of it, but the little fellow gets in it now and then and he knows he is doing wrong. [Daughter] had him to the doctor last Saturday having him “enokulated” for whooping cough - I can’t spell that word, you spell it for me - and the doctor said he was as tall & weighed as much as the average 5 year old child and he is only 2 years & 8 months old. He is a nice looking little kid but he has it in for me. I put the shanks on when I think he needs it & he doesn’t like that. Kids are lots sharper than we give them credit for. He hears things said when we think he is not even listening. He is just at that age when he says funny things in his baby way. I get lots of laughs with him. I am going to have another check reading as soon as I conveniently can. I haven’t been eating any candy at all & don’t even crave it any more and I ate pounds of it. I guess I was just lonesome. I get lonesome now but I have been working again & I feel better when I am on the job.
The folks are talking vacation again but I am not interested the least tiny bit. I never can go where I want to. [Husband] makes me so mad. He has the same old rounds every summer & he never stops to think that we might not want to go always where he likes it, so we are going to pack him off on the bus & give him 2 full weeks of perfect freedom. That will give me a vacation too.
Kind regards to all you. Will think instead of this being the Morgue that it is the lunatic asylum. Write whenever you can. Always interested in you folks. Mrs. [464]
R4. 5/22/36 [464]‘s ltr.:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
You were right and I was wrong. I should have sent for the electrical appliance that you advised me to get but I am not sorry that I went to the doctor for he has given me the same thing that you advised me to do and I had him to go to while in doubt as to what to do next. He is doctoring me for my liver I think, I take a table every night that acts like the Zilatone tablets and I feel a whole lot better. I am not nearly as blue as I was there for a while. I thot I was going nutty. Mrs. Case, the doctor’s wife, says I don’t get enough of the electricity. I only go once a week. You see [husband] had so much expense this spring one way and another that I felt I couldn’t go any oftener and run in debt for I would never get it paid. So if I had sent for the appliance you advised I could take a treatment at home every day. Penny wise and pound foolish. This trying to make both ends meet on a shortage doesn’t go over so big. Mrs. [464]
R5. 6/3/36 [464]‘s ltr.:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I received the Radio-Active Appliance and just in case you may be a little doubtful deep down in your heart about me paying for it, I am mailing a post office money order for the balance to-day so rest in peace. I am an awful thief but don’t take it too seriously. Many thanks for helping me out. I will not be using it until I get another reading from you. I am still with the doctor here. I hope to get some money soon & I will wait till then. I sent the order direct to the Norfolk people. Save your time and patience. You will be making great preparations for the June convention. I miss all the good things. Regards to all. Write if you have time. Mrs. [464]
R6. 6/16/36 “I am feeling a whole lot better, using some common sense along with my tr. I will have a ck. rdg. later on.”
R7. 12/31/36 [464]‘s ltr.:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I would like a check up reading on the doctor’s work. I am feeling miserable the last few days. I don’t know if it is the treatment he is giving me that is stirring up my system or what. There are two things I would like to know. What it is that causes me so much trouble in my left side - is it the lower stomach or the upper bowels? It is not a pain or sore but a distress & it effects my heart-action. I keep wanting to rub it away. What is it that makes my legs so weak? My eyes are bothering me a lot to. No matter what I do for myself my legs never seem to get any strength in them.
Oh yes, I forgot another thing. I have been feeling so melancholy lately, so much so that I wouldn’t take any part in the Xmas except what I absolutely had to do. I feel sad & lonely owing to my physical condition, so what part is it that is affected to cause the low spirits? Mrs. [464]
