GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time with suggestions for further corrective measures, answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here: [470]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, in a general manner conditions here are very good. There can rarely be physical disturbances with the mental attitude of the body, save when it gets rough, but don’t do that. It’s hard on the kidneys, on the liver and the heart. These are the tendencies in the body of which there are to be the more precaution. These are of such a disturbance as to cause ofttimes engorgements in the activities of heart, liver and kidneys.
-
As has been indicated for the body there are those tendencies in the activities of the pancreas for excesses and these tend, with the conditions, to form disturbances which may become clots, blocks in the system. The condition in the present of the liver, kidneys, pancreas, though, is better in accord than it has been in many times that we have had the condition here.
-
But we would with regularity have the artichoke prepared in the manner as has been indicated, for this tends to keep a purification of that circulation with the liver, the kidneys, the pancreas. And, to be sure, oft with such disturbances there comes a disorder in the spleen, and here is about the only change as we find from bettered conditions, as has been seen.
-
These, then, necessitate that the attitude be kept without getting mad, yes, but don’t say anything, don’t think it. Just know that you can’t afford to for physical self and for the better self.
-
For those conditions with the sympathetic system, if the body would take the head and neck exercise, we will find it will relieve those little tensions which have been indicated as part of conditions in head, eyes, mouth and teeth. All of these will respond to regular exercise of body and neck. It doesn’t take long, but don’t hurry through with it. But do regularly of morning take the time before dressing, rise on the toes slowly and raise the arms easily at the same time directly above the head, pointing straight up. At the same time bend head back just as far as you can. When let down gentle from this you see, we make for giving a better circulation through the whole area from the abdomen, through the diaphragm, through the lungs, head and neck. Then let down, put the head forward just as far as it will come on the chest, then raise again at the top, bend the head to the right as far as it will go down. When rising again, bend the head to the left. Then standing erect, hands on hips, circle the head, roll around to the right two or three times, then straighten self. Again hands off the hip, down gently, rise again, down again, then circle to the opposite side. We will find we will change all of these disturbances through the mouth, head, eyes and the activities of the whole body will be improved. Open your mouth as you go up and down also.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is there a cyst on the upper left molar? if so what should be done? (A) There is an accumulation but it is more as a gum boil. But it will be well if we will rinse the mouth out one time with Glyco-Thymoline or Lavoris and the next day rinse it with Listerine. These are opposite in their effects, yet both are antiseptics and with the exercise it’ll disappear.
-
(Q) What should be done about all the teeth? (A) Have them examined locally, but there are many that do not need much attention, if you’ll do these.
-
(Q) Are the teeth on upper left side close to the antrums so there will be danger in case of extraction? (A) No, they won’t need to be extracted yet. For you’ll have many years to use them if you’ll keep these exercises and rinses.
-
(Q) Any other advice or counsel? (A) Only as to the attitude. As indicated for most people and it is very well here: don’t get mad and don’t cuss a body out mentally or in voice. This brings more poisons than may be created by even taking foods that aren’t good.

We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/23/64 GD’s note: Mr. [470] told me today that he is in perfect health. Altho having the diabetic tendency he has never resorted to insulin, and he feels he has been kept in shape by following the health advice in his rdgs. [He and his wife all these years have remained active supporters of A.R.E.]

1/6/76 Nadine Elmer’s letter to GD, in re origin of head and neck exercises before meditation:
“I am writing on behalf of the Speech Committee for the Orange County Council which is presenting an in-depth work shop on meditation on 1/31/76 and would appreciate your help… How did our meditation procedure come about? Was Edgar Cayce or any of the other members in Group I already meditating before being suggested in the readings? If so, what procedure were they using? What is the reason that we use the head and neck exercises before meditation? We have read that they are very helpful but we have not found a reading specifically suggesting its use as a preparation before meditation.”
R3. 1/16/76 GD’s reply:
It was good to hear from you and I am looking forward to perhaps seeing you at the Medical Symposium next week, though you may be too busy to attend, with the in-depth workshop on Meditation coming up so soon.
In regard to the beginning of group meditation, the original group started with the affirmation that was given in the first lesson on cooperation. We were told to choose a time at which we would all meditate using the affirmation for a 15 minute period. We chose 6:30 to 6:45 every morning, as this suited the majority of the members - in fact, all the members. We were very particular about this and we reported at our next meeting any results during meditation since it was these results, or the flashes that came to us during the day as a result of meditation, that became our contribution to the lesson itself. We had never, any of us, meditated previously. We had all been praying but not meditating. I think this short period which was outlined in the readings for us was to introduce us to meditation. Later we expanded the period, especially when we got into the prayer group meditation. Some members of the prayer group would meditate an hour at the time, but always three times a day - 7:00 - 7:15 in the morning, 12:00 - 12:15 at noon and at sundown in the evening, I’ve forgotten the exact hour, but three times a day. And then sometimes we would have all day meetings of the prayer group and have long periods of meditation together, even fasting at times for the day.
As to the use of the head and neck exercises before meditation, this did not come in the meditation readings. I can remember no reference to this being a part of the meditation procedure other than the suggestion that we attune our bodies and prepare for meditation as indicated in the chapter on meditation - at the beginning of the book A SEARCH FOR GOD. The head and neck exercises were given in physical readings for many people, myself included. It was supposed to stimulate the circulation and aid the whole sensory system, the eyes, the ears, etc. There were literally hundreds and hundreds of recommendations in the readings for use of the head and neck exercise. I am enclosing a copy of 470-37, given in June, 1944, which seems to go into great detail about how to do the exercise and the effects of it.
In many of the physical readings advice was given about holding the correct mental attitude, being constructive, etc. However, this was true in any case regardless of what the treatment was.
As I understand it, someone suggested at a conference many years ago that the entire group in the class take the head and neck exercise, during a break, just to loosen up or relax from sitting so long. This became a habit and it was recommended from the platform, or by the leader of the discussion or meditation period, so that it came to be done regularly as a part of the relaxing to prepare for meditation. This is very good I think, but I can’t find a reading that definitely says that the head and neck exercise should be a part of the meditation procedure.
The readings on meditation DO say that the individual should do beforehand WHATEVER will, for him, cleanse the body and the mind before entering meditation.
I hope this clarifies the matter. If I should find a reading which points to the advisability of doing this specific exercise before meditation I will retract my above statement. If there had been such a reference it certainly should have been indexed UNDER Meditation on the index card.
Bless you and yours.
