This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 22nd day of December, 1933, in accordance with request made by Mr. [4959], new Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading … Hospital, 3:55 to 4:05 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [474].
-
As we find, the conditions are very serious. The affectation may be called leukocythemia, for the affected portions are the bones or marrow, the spleen, pancreas, and the LYMPH especially in the area of the ducts of assimilation.
-
The first cause was an unbalancing of the forces in the system that make for the elemental activities in the glands, and especially the spleen and lacteals.
-
If there will be the ministrations that would prevent any large amount of loss in hemorrhage (that reduces the resistive forces in the red blood supply, and creates or produces a tendency for the lymph to be more active, and the inflammation in the leucocyte ducts to be more active), then there may be the opportunity of overcoming or building the conditions for resisting or overcoming the condition.
-
We would, then, in the immediate, give hypodermically those properties that would tend to DRY the lymph in its activity. That is, a one hundred eightieth of a grain (180th) of atropine given hypodermically in the abdominal area, or just below the point of the spleen on the left side of the body - in the fleshy portion.
-
To overcome the adhesive tendency, or too great a slackening of the activity, we would stimulate to action through the blood supply - or the oxygen TO the blood supply, which would enable the red blood to meet resistances, or to prevent them from becoming watery in the veins themselves and arteries and in the organs. That is, take a quarter grain (1/4) of Carbon Ash twice every day.
-
If by the third day we have prevented the hemorrhage, there will be the opportunity for further aid.
-
As for the diet, as for the general care, we would follow that which has been outlined.
-
Do that. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should these suggestions be wired? (A) That’s what has been asked! MAIL the Ash, if it’s present.
By the end of the week we may give further instructions, if the body responds to these.
We would give 180th of a grain of atropine. And 1/4 grain Carbon Ash twice each day.
Of course, the application of the violet ray following the taking of the Ash would make it more effective, if applied to the area of the secondary cardiac plexus and brachial plexus; or to more centralize same, rub the violet ray for a few seconds over the area of the ducts of the lymph production, or the liver and the RIGHT side - not over the spleen, for this would tend to make same BURST!
- (Q) How long should the violet ray be used? (A) Just a few seconds over the ducts given, and about three-quarters of a minute over the secondary cardiac and brachial plexus area. This should be applied about five to fifteen minutes after the Ash is taken - between that period.
Do that, which - as we find - will, under the present existent conditions, offer the greater opportunity for RESISTING the tendencies for the destruction of red blood of the body - or leukemia.
- (Q) What period of the day should the Ash be given? (A) Early of morning and late in the afternoon. In the morning between 8:30 and 9:00 o’clock. In the afternoon between 5:00 and 5:30 o’clock.
We would only give one of the hypodermics - 180th of a grain in the portion indicated will tend to STOP circulation - see - DRY! Hence the Ash to overcome this, but to produce carbonization and carbon reaction in the red blood supply in lungs, heart and spleen. These will not clog!
-
(Q) As the Ash has to be mailed, should the hypodermic be given before the Ash gets there? (A) Hypodermic may be given today or tomorrow. The Ash would arrive tomorrow night, if mailed at once.
-
We are through for the present.

(12/22/33 GD’s note: In case reading is to be followed:
Do not follow one portion of the reading and not the other! Do it all or none!
If the atropine injection is given on the night you receive this, then start with the Carbon Ash the next day.
As we happened to have a small quantity of the Ash on hand we are sending it to you in the same mail, to save delay. It is manufactured by B. H. Bradley, 5443 Maryland Ave., Chicago, Ill. I quote from a letter he wrote explaining the Ash:
Nov. 13, 1933 [432-1]
“Concerning the ‘Ash’ the study is a long one. It required months of work and several readings before we could arrive at the final product. You are correct that the name “Carbon Ash” is not correctly descriptive, but no short name could cover the situation. The product is secured by taking bamboo fibre and partially burning it by passing a powerful electric arc through it in a chamber enclosed 83% 00 specified by the readings - evidently to secure partial combustion. The resulting powder contains no elements except those remains after the partial combustion of the bamboo. However, the powder has taken on a photogenic or similar vibratory power. Have secured from it a visible reaction on photographic film. Chemically it is inactive. Its value lies evidently in vibration in manner similar to the activated foods being produced by German Scientists. There is no secret in the composition or method of production. The price of $1.00 for 20 - 1/4 gr. capsules was established for the purpose of recovering the expense of equipment required. This price will be reduced shortly.”
EMPTY the Ash from capsule before taking, and wash down with water. DO NOT take Ash IN capsule! Follow with the violet ray hand machine, IN the manner outlined.
Let us hear from you. GD.)

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 12/30/33 Mr. [4959]‘s letter:
My Dear Friend:
[474] died yesterday (Friday) morning. There was nothing to write up to that time hence the silence on my part.
On Thursday evening I took my wife and a neighbor up to the Norwood Hospital to see [474] and her folks. I had known that up to that time the directions sent by you had not been followed. Mr. […] did not receive the special delivery letter until last Sunday afternoon, because of the great congestion of mail before Christmas. He talked it over with his folks, and then got the letter down to me on Christmas morning. It was a reading that could be easily understood and easily followed. My advice to Mr. […] was to follow it to the letter. He then took it up with his doctors, - there were four of them, and that is probably why nothing was done about it. Their opinion was that the medicine part was all right; your suggestions along that line were sane and sensible. They were giving her some atrophine anyway, and they believed the ash would do what you claimed. But every one of the doctors considered that to give the violet ray in [474]‘s present condition was positively fatal. Mr. […] gave me this information sometime after Christmas; asked about the violet ray, and I told him that I believed if they followed the instructions set out by your reading, and gave just so much of the violet ray treatment and no more, that it would be just the opposite of what the doctors were afraid of. The matter thus stood until Thursday afternoon. Mr. […] felt that his daughter was slipping; in fact, she had stated last week even before your reading came, - and she has known nothing, of course, of the reading, - that she would not get well again. She looked so bad on Thursday afternoon that Mr. […] told me he would try to get the doctors, as they all said her case was hopeless anyway, to follow the instructions in the reading; that he would take a chance if his wife would agree and if the doctors would do it. We left the hospital Thursday afternoon about five o’clock. Mr. […] stayed until midnight. Got to his home a little after one o’clock, and had been there but a short while when he was called to come to the hospital, that his daughter was dying. She passed away very quietly and peacefully. He had asked me on Thursday to write on to you and find out if you had ever given a reading before for the same blood disease, and whether the patient had survived. But, of course, [474] had passed away before I could even get the letter written.
