This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the McAlpin Hotel, New York, N.Y. [?], this 18th day of March, 1921.

1. GKN: Now, Mr. Cayce, you are going to sleep, a quiet, peaceful and restful sleep. All the organs of your body will function perfectly, you will be normal in every way. You will hear me what I say and answer the questions I shall ask you, slowly and distinctly, so that we may get every word. Now, Mr. Cayce, you are asleep and you have before you the body of [4740], who is at …, Fla. You will go over this body carefully and tell us what the trouble is, if anything and what to do for it to make it normal again. You will answer any questions about this body.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here. Now you see we have in this body here a body suffering with an organic trouble which has caused disarrangement throughout the whole system in the functioning of the other organs in the system. To begin with we have the blood or the life of the body, we find the blood is impoverished, more of the white than there should be, the hemoglobin or red being used too much to rid the body of all of the infirmities and taking up so much of the vital force in the body that it brings this condition about in the system. That is the condition in the blood.

3. The nervous systems and forces we find in keeping with the condition of the blood forces of the system, high, unstrung as it were, not all vibrating in the same way or force at times tautness caused to the extremities, that is the limbs here. Again, we will find throughout the trunk portion of the body troubles hindering digestion, hindering the action of the larger organs in their functioning in proper shape and order. The condition from which all of these trouble centralize or are thrown out is caused from sometime back, properties taken into the system or the stomach itself which became poison to the system and has caused the walls of the stomach itself to draw and contract until we have a stomach very much smaller than the normal stomach should be in a body of this kind and build here. From this we find the rest of these conditions in the body are brought about. Nature attempting to do its best to take care of these conditions finds these conditions in the system. At times they present themselves in different forms and manner. We have nervous indigestion, the rising of fats or anything that is taken into the system, dyspepsia. We will have again the action to the functions of the lower organs through the pelvis becomes strained producing too much of acids to be discharged through the kidneys. Again we will find trouble with the whole intestinal tract so that quantities of laxatives have to be taken into the system.

4. To relieve and bring this body to a normal condition, which can be done if treated properly, consistently and thoroughly, if followed along the lines as we give here, we would first cleanse the system from its condition here the 18th of March, (13 years tomorrow), take into the system quantities of pure water. See that the system is well dilated with the effect of quantities of water in the system. It is not absolutely necessary that the body remove from this altitude or place or condition. Perhaps it would be better too, if they will leave off the worries of business and of self to go to another place for this treatment then Jacksonville, Fla. This water shall be taken just the same as medicine every hour drinking a full glass of water.

5. (Q) Every hour in the day? (A) You must sleep sometime, about 12 hours of the day.

Then we begin the manipulation along the spine with the muscles and nerves controlling the action of the upper end of the stomach as from the first dorsals to the first lumbars. Then we begin to massage, this is not osteopathic, but massage the abdomen well from the diaphragm to the upper points of the hips from the frontal part of the body. These are not to be treated the same days as the osteopathic, one day treating of spine, next day from abdomen, stomach and bowels. After this has been done some two or three weeks we will take into the system small quantities of earth, just dirt so that we give weight and an action to the stomach itself and the inner linings and those properties needed for this body. The quantity to be taken, three to four grains every day. This we would use, that is the kind and quality which shall be used, to be obtained from the bottom of creek of fresh water and then dried and used. When the body is taking the dirt alone do not take the osteopathic treatment. Alternate each week, after one week of the taking of dirt osteopathic treatment will begin. Eat what the body calls for, no more nor less - as often as the body wishes to, not large quantities.

6. (Q) How is the best way to take this dirt, Mr. Cayce? (A) The only sensible way. Put it in the mouth and swallow it. It is not unpalatable. The body needs it - will call for it - will like it after three or four days.

R1. 5/15/24 Mr. [4740]‘s letter from Jacksonville, Fla.: “I am just in receipt of your favor of 3rd, enclosing the pamphlet and I am enclosing my check for $1.25 for one of your books [[3744] series] when ready to mail.

“I hope I can find something in the book that will do me some good as I am still suffering with ASTHMA and the last few days has been the worst that I have ever experienced I believe. I have had every kind of examination known to the medical profession and they have not found one thing wrong but still I have these attacks and almost smother every time I have one.

“If you can do anything for me I will pay you well as I will have to give up my business here and leave Florida unless I can get relief soon. I believe something can be done but as yet have not struck the right thing.

“Wishing you success in your work for the good of humanity…”

R2. 5/17/24 EC’s letter from Dayton, Ohio: “Have yours 15th and thank you for the order for the book, (which will be sent soon as they are off the press) also for letting me hear from you again. I can’t tell you just why, Mr. [4740], but I do not know of a case that I have tried to do that has more often been on my mind than yours, and as I look over the records that have only been kept in a sort of way until I have given my whole time to the work - I seem to recall some of the correspondence, tho there were only one or two letters. Now, I have had in my experience some 40 or more cases of Asthma, the first one being that of my own mother who had been a sufferer for more than 35 years when I first undertook to try and help, while she has never been entirely cured the suggestions have certainly made life bearable for her, and quite a number of others that I might mention, and I am sure I can realize what it has been for you.

“I am going to suggest that you fill out the enclosed card, send it in on time and let’s see what we can get for you. Then when you have gotten some results, why you can use your own discretion as to what you would contribute toward the work. Now, I have never asked any one to let me read for them, and would not suggest this much for you had I not at one time tried your case for you, and you have not gotten results. So in view of that fact, and the constant feeling some where within my subconscious mind of you and the wondering about you and the real appeal I seem to feel in your letter this morning is why I am asking this.
