This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 5th day of January, 1934, in accordance with request made by the father, Mr. […], new Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Judge W. W. Dey.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Young [477] and his parents, and Mr. Matthews.]
Time of Reading 12:30 to 12:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Va. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [477].
-
Now, as we find, there are disturbing conditions in the better physical functioning of the body. These, as we find, are of specific and also contributory causes - and affect the circulation and the better activity in various portion of the body, but specifically in the lower portions or extremities.
-
These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [477], we are speaking of, present in this room:
-
First, in the BLOOD SUPPLY, while we find this in many respects is near normal, there are the indications of disturbances through impingements that affect the superficial circulation, especially in the lower extremities and - sympathetically - to other portions of the body, as to at times affect the sensory system.
-
In the NERVE FORCES of the body we find rather the specific causes, through impingements, as indicated in the lower portion of the coccyx - though not on the end. Here we find that the locomotaries that receive impulses from the secondary reaction in the sympathetic and cerebro-spinal nerve forces to the lower extremities carry hindrances in the proper return of the circulation in the feet, the limbs, to the body. Hence there are those infectious forces that disturb the extremities in their activities for proper elimination. Hence we have the forms of conditions that produce hindrances in the better reaction. SYMPATHETICALLY, we find in the upper dorsal and in the cervical that which disturbs the better circulation through the head, through the throat at times. An affectation to the organs of the sensory system. Hence the vision and the taste are at times both impaired from normal functioning.
-
As to the ORGANS of the body proper, little or no disturbance that will not be benefited by the correction of the conditions that are the basis or causes for the disturbance in the superficial circulation and in the nerve systems proper.
-
Hence in making applications for the conditions in extremities, for the conditions that affect the sympathetic nervous system as related to the sensory forces of the body, in making superficial application - or either in making such applications that might destroy the circulatory forces where there is the effect of infectious conditions or the effect of nerve impingements that have hindered the proper circulation in other portions, or in the specific portions in the right portion of the lower extremity, especially, or in both reactions - we will need to first make the corrections in the coccyx and in the cervical areas that will allow the proper coordination of nerve impulse, and the proper superficial and internal circulation to the body.
-
These corrections we would make in the osteopathic ADJUSTMENT manner.
-
Also during the periods when the treatments are being used and corrections being made, we would make application to the affected portions with first the plain violet ray - but begin in the lumbar area and move towards the end of the extremities, both for the superficial activity in upper portion of the body - beginning with the brachial area and moving towards the ends of the extremities, specifically, though, in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th cervical centers. This would be applied each day for three to five minutes for the whole application.
-
The external applications would be made with a combination such as this:
-
To 2 ounces of olive oil (heated), add:
Tincture of Myrrh…2 ounces, Animated Ash…2 grains.
Shake this well together each time before it is applied. It would be applied or massaged not only in the affected portions direct but to the activities of the muscular forces that lead directly to affected portions.
-
We will find that these will eliminate and destroy the forces that disturb the body, and we will make for a better balance and a better coordinating throughout the whole of the physical forces of the body. Also there will be the correcting, in a great degree, the tendencies for forgetfulness - at times that are indicated in the reactions, by the subluxations in the upper cervical area - and aid in correcting the taste, and in making more activity of the sensory forces as related to eye, ear, nose and throat.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is the condition Athlete’s Foot, as termed by the doctors? (A) Rather as indicated; and this is almost ALWAYS the condition where there is what is termed as Athlete’s Foot or where the locomotories are disturbed. That is, an impingement. Here we find it below the locomotory centers proper, yet not sufficiently low to disturb the circulation in the upper portion of the body - but to make only external applications will not heal the conditions here. Then, it may be said to be the SYMPTOMS of Athlete’s Foot - but reaches farther than this.
-
(Q) What produced this condition? (A) First an accident or injury to that portion of the body, where the repressions in the circulation affected the lower extremities. Then the character of the shoe or, more specifically, the dye in the stockings worn. And then the addition to this of infection from external forces - fishy in its nature.
-
(Q) What osteopath in the vicinity would you suggest to carry out the adjustments? (A) Richardson, or any that is in sympathy with the influences through which such information may be given - so as to be checked on same. But these conditions would be found in the 4th, 3rd and 4th portion or segments of the coccyx area, specifically.
-
(Q) How often should the treatments be given osteopathically? (A) In the beginning two or three times each week. After the second or third week they may be farther apart.
-
(Q) What length of time would be required to correct the condition? (A) With the application of the treatments given, we would find that in six weeks it should be entirely eliminated from the system - though we will see improvements in the GENERAL condition, and in other influences in the activities of the body, somewhat sooner but MUCH longer lasting - see?
This we would do, as we have outlined.
-
(Q) How often should the massage with the ointment be given? (A) Each day, and - to be sure, of course - they should be cleansed with the antiseptic solution before it is applied; applying the violet ray FIRST, as given, see, after they have been cleansed - then apply the lotion that has been outlined.
-
(Q) What antiseptic would you suggest? (A) A very weak solution of ANY that is a good antiseptic, preferably that is alkalin in its nature.
-
(Q) What effect does water have on the feet? (A) It increases the distress, as is apparent, or makes it break out easier.
-
(Q) Any special diet necessary? (A) Keep to more an alkalin diet; not too much sweets, a great deal of fruit and green vegetables - and well-cooked vegetables also. If meat is taken at all, preferably mutton, fowl or the like.
Do as we have outlined, and we will find that we will soon bring the normal forces to this body. A portion of the treatment that we have outlined will not cure, it may aid - but make the corrections and the other applications coordinatingly, and we will bring the sooner and the more specific and the greater lasting results for this body.
-
(Q) Did a fall bring about this condition? (A) A fall.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 1/5/34 GD’s notations to facilitate following entire tr. as outlined:
For the osteopathic adjustments and treatments we would recommend Dr. M. L. Richardson, Bankers Trust Bldg., Norfolk, Va., who has had considerable experience with following the readings and who is in sympathy with our work.
The plain hand violet ray machine, if you haven’t one already, may be obtained at any drug or electrical supply house, and these treatments may be given at home.
The ingredients for the massage may be obtained separately and prepared in the manner given. The Animated Ash may be obtained in quarter grain capsules from B. H. Bradley, 5443 Maryland Ave., Chicago, Ill. I quote from Mr. Bradley’s letter to one of our new members under date of Nov. 13, 1933: [See 432-1 Reports.]
Your favor of the 11th received. Under separate cover the “Carbon Ash” is being forwarded. Am glad you have come in contact with Mr. Cayce whose work has been so remarkable. Concerning the “Ash” the study is a long one. It required months of work and several readings before we could arrive at the final product. You are correct that the name “Carbon Ash” is not correctly descriptive, but no short name could cover the situation. The product is secured by taking bamboo fibre and partially burning it by passing a powerful electric arc through it in a chamber enclosed 83% 00 specified by the readings evidently to secure partial combustion. The resulting powder contains no elements except those remains after the partial combustion of the bamboo. However, the powder has taken on a photogenic or similar vibratory power. Have secured from it a visible reaction on photographic film. Chemically it is inactive. Its value lies evidently in vibration in manner similar to the activated foods being produced by German Scientists. There is no secret in the composition or method of production. The price of $1.00 for 20 - 1/4 grain capsules was established for the purpose of recovering the expense of equipment required. This price will be reduced shortly.
I am giving below a list of the ALKALIN FORMING FOODS [as per Scientific Weight Control booklet published in 1925 by Continental Scale Works], from which your principal diet is to be made up - including the specific foods mentioned in reading:
All fruits, fresh and dried, except large prunes, plums and cranberries.
Limes Small Sun Dried Prunes Pineapples Apricots Honey Oranges Raisins Apples Grapefruit Figs (unsulphured) Peaches Lemons Dates Pears
All vegetables, fresh and dehydrated, except legumes, (dried peas, beans and lentils) rhubarb.
Rutabaga Beets Carrots Radish Cabbage Kohlrabi Lettuce Cauliflower Turnips Tomatos Onions String Beans Parsnips Green Peas Oyster Plant Spinach Celery Asparagus
MILK: All forms, buttermilk, clabber, sour milk, Cottage cheese, cheese.
(Let us hear from you. GD)
R2. 10/16/39 His mother, Mrs. [2027], obtained a Physical Rdg., at which time his father reported:
“From the very beginning of following the treatment in the rdg., [477] had relief. He improved wonderfully even in thirty days. Inside of ninety days after starting the treatments recommended in the rdg. he was entirely cured and has to date had no return effects.”
R3. 8/5/40 Dr. M. L. Richardson’s reply to Questionnaire:
(1a) Did the Reading presented to you describe the condition of the patient? (b) Explain any variation. (c) Give technical diagnosis. (a) Yes (b) (c)
(2) Were the suggestions for treatment in your opinion proper for this condition? Results indicate yes.
(3) For what period of time has the patient followed direc- tions given in the Reading under your care? Condition completely cured.
Date: Aug. 5, 1940 Signed: M. L. Richardson, D.O.
(We will appreciate it if you will include a technical analysis of your findings.)
R4. 8/1/41 See 477-2, in which he asked: “What caused the Athlete’s Foot to flare up again? Is it harmful to go in the sun and salt water? Why has not the same treatment, with exception of Animated Ash which I could not get, cleared up the feet?”
Background
Background
B1. 1/5/34 He came with his parents to be present for the rdg., after having made an appointment by phone. His feet were bandaged & he had to be carried by his father. The parents stated that for 3 yrs. he had been suffering. It started with a sore spot on the side of his foot, thought at first to be the result of something which might have happened to him while in the swimming pool. It gradually spread over the entire foot, then both feet. They took him to 8 different doctors, in different portions of the country, over the 3 yr. period. They all said it was Athlete’s foot and prescribed different remedies which failed to do any good at all, apparently; some of them being so strong that they made his feet raw. He got so he couldn’t walk and had to stay out of school half a term; they now have to take him upstairs & downstairs - he can’t walk at all, & is in torture from the itching & rawness at the same time.
