R1. 9/23/27 EC’s letter to Ernestine Ruprecht:

Dear Miss Ruprecht:-

Your wire respecting the reading for Billy [4803] came before we had either of your letters - but, as you already know, the reading was taken as we had the name and address. I certainly am in hopes that the suggestions given were carried out, and that you have long since gotten wonderful results from same.

We have had quite a number of cases very much similar to that described in the reading, and following very much of the same outline as you indicate in your letter, and there certainly have been wonderful results gotten where the suggestions have been followed out. I am quite anxious to know the results of this case, and shall appreciate your letting me hear from you.

We sent the information to those addresses you gave us, and are enclosing you a couple of the copies of the testimonial pamphlets. We shall be glad to send you any information or any data we may have on hand, and we assure you of our desire to be of help whenever possible.

R2. 10/4/27 Ernestine Ruprecht’s letter to EC:

Elm Cot, Sharon, Mass.

My dear Mr. Cayce:-

I have indeed failed in not expressing sooner my gratitude for your very good and prompt response to my telegram in regard to Billy [4803].

It helped considerably for it made the grandmother (Billy’s guardian) consent to osteopathic treatment as you advised.

Her (Dr. Marjorie Johnson’s) diagnosis agreed with yours and also established the fact that Billy had several lesions in his neck, and a very strong toxic breath. Dr. Johnson is also treating the 1st and 2nd cervical and gradually working to the 3rd and 4th cervicals.

Also Billy was put on a six day fast to overcome the toxic poisoning, with only orange juice, tomato juice and plenty of water to drink, and daily enemas. This, to-gether with two treatments, seemed to help him considerably and showed a better state of MIND and body on the 5th day of fasting. We are having osteopathic treatments twice a week (having had three so far).

We are inclined to think that there was some poisoning, as of poison mushrooms, as the convulsions he had were not entirely of an epileptic nature and his recovery was so slow.

He had been in the habit of eating anything he can get outdoors, bark, bits of twig, leaves, and even ate the husks of sunflower seeds, also chewed up bits of a wooden boat, wooden blocks and a harmonica. What is it that induces this growing hunger?

It may also interest you to know about the following. He had been very apathetic and indifferent to his surroundings, no toys or anything ever holding his attention for more than five minutes. We were quite worried about it and yesterday morning we received the following writings thru Miss Chany and the results obtained were so instantaneous - his mind responded immediately and we held his attention for 1-1/4 hours with his “Meccano” - a very beloved construction mechanism. Also he made several constructive statements during the remainder of the day.

The writings I will give only in part as there is quite a bit

• an explanation too of his karmic ties and need to overcome through these very difficulties which he has incurred thru past unintegrity. I would give them all to you if you would wish them. The following is quoted: “He can be cured for time in relative can overcome many an evilness. Demand that his soul come and inhabit his body, imagine it there, demand it there. The human soul seeks to evade the responsibility of the body upon this earth placed. Never, never shake him as that in the past has weakened near to severance the chord that holds the soul within the body. If that chord that holds the soul within the body be broken the body will live on but soullessly. The integrity with him is that the soul be made to inhabit, to dwell within the body. He seeks at times to bring about this severance thru harming the body with auto-intoxication. The struggle you witnessed was but the body seeking to throw off the soul. Make him do things
• set tasks definite. This drifting aimlessly is wrong as it allows the soul to drift off into sensuous space. He will either be a soulless one - not idiotic, but vague to the extreme or else if the soul be coordinated with the body he has every opportunity to be a rather flashing personality and to achieve along one line. First get him coordinated thru the line of least resistance. Take the thing that most interests him and gradually from fifteen minutes up to four hours a day make him concentrate and coordinate.”

We have been told that the mother (now passed on) was continually shaking the child in irritation at his stubbornnesses - his eating of the twigs, etc., would corroborate the matter of auto-intoxication - also - we find it VERY difficult to make him have proper eliminations and have had to give him enemas for two weeks now - in spite of careful choice of laxative foods in the past few days since his fast we have not been able to get a natural elimination. You can see how well these things bear out the writings.

R3. 10/12/27 EC’s letter to Miss Ruprecht:-

Dear Miss Ruprecht:

Many thanks for yours of the 4th. I certainly am in hopes that Billy is responding wonderfully to the treatments by Dr. Johnson. I feel sure from what you say that if the suggestions are carried out very sincerely, the results will be most satisfying. I thank you very much for writing me respecting Miss Chany’s prognosis of the condition. This would seem to verify considerable that was given in the reading both for Billy and for Miss Chany - or am I trying to take honor where honor is not due? I certainly am in hopes that Billy responds to the treatment, for this is my great desire - to use whatever forces that may be manifested through me toward the help of others and especially towards the young - for on the young depends the hope of the world.

R4. 4/15/30 Miss Ruprecht’s letter in answer to Questionnaire: “Billy [4803] was with us only seven months and during that time we followed out the directions as given. I can give no further account of him as he was taken to Maine in charge of someone we do not know.”

B1. 9/17/27 Miss Ernestine Ruprecht’s letter: “Miss Chany [Rebecca Jordan Chany] has already mentioned to you the little boy, Billy [4803] whom we have in charge here. We have now gained the grandmother’s consent to having a diagnosis by you… We are very anxious about the little fellow just now. He had what the doctor diagnosed as a very prolonged ‘status epilepsis’ - [catalepsy?] in fact it lasted five hours. He is very weak and we are anxious to have the right corrective, preventive treatment for it. So far the doctors have merely been able to alleviate the suffering with drugs but we feel very decidedly that a permanent cure can be effected.”
